Wii Sports Resort captured the top spot in the UK for the second week in a row, as sales rose from the game’s debut week, research firm Chart-Track said Monday.

For the week ended August 1 on Chart-Track’s all-platform charts, which includes unit sales of all versions of any given title, the Wii MotionPlus-enabled game rose 6 percent week-on-week. It’s a notable feat, as Chart-Track said last week that the launch of Wii Sports Resort marked the fourth-biggest week for a Wii title, behind Nintendo’s Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, and Sega and Nintendo’s Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Nintendo’s evergreen Wii Fit made the second slot for the week, jumping from number four on the all-platform charts from a week prior, while EA Sports’ Tiger Woods held the number three spot from the previous week. EA once again had a strong presence on the UK charts this week, landing five of the top 10 sales spots.

Falling out of the top 10 from last week was 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Activision. THQ’s UFC 2009: Undisputed rose from number 12 last week to number eight this week.

UK Charts: All Platfroms

1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
2. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
3. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (EA)
4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (EA)
5. Fight Night Round 4 (EA)
6. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Activision)
7. The Sims 3 (EA)
8. UFC 2009: Undisputed (THQ)
9. EA Sports Active (EA)
10. Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood (Ubisoft)

Wii Sports Resort also maintained its lead on Chart-Track’s individual platform charts, which rank individual versions of a game by unit sales. The top five games maintained the same positions from the previous week.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for Wii and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for Xbox 360 both fell out of the top 10 from the previous week, as Wii Play and Fight Night Round 4 for PlayStation 3 broke into the top 10.
UK Charts: Individual Platforms

1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii)
2. Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii)
3. The Sims 3 (EA, PC)
4. EA Sports Active (EA, Wii)
5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii)
6. Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii)
7. Fight Night Round 4 (EA, Xbox 360)
8. Fight Night Round 4 (EA, PS3)
9. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (EA, Wii)
10. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo, DS)

I purchased this controller today and I knew the only way to properly road-test it was on the game that made the Dualshock famous, Metal Gear Solid. After booting up the game, I walked down the hallway and got spotted by a guard. As he shouted, “WHO’S THAT?” the controller jumped in my hand – and I knew this was a smart purchase. As the guards shot at me, I felt the feedback of the bullets, just as I had 10 years ago on my Sony Playstation.

I picked out another old school Playstation game, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. From Ayame’s blades to Rikimaru’s sword, each sword swipe and jump had excellent feedback.

Okay, so my Playstation games worked out. But what about my Playstation 2 library?

I popped in God of War, knowing I had to feel the swing of the Blades of Chaos. The controller vibrations felt a little lighter here, but the vibrations still occurred at the appropriate times.

Then I chose Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction. Who better to test a vibration controller than the Sultan of Smash? All the power jumps and smashes had the vibrations intact, but they still felt a little on the light side.

All right, so far I was two for two with my Playstation and Playstation 2 test subjects. But what about my Playstation 3 games? Could I possibly hit a trifecta?

I put in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and I decided to jump right into a heated firefight. The controller gave me feedback while shooting weapons and getting hit by enemy fire, but I knew my purchase was justified when Drake was near death: I FELT THE DUALSHOCK 3 PULSING IN SYNCH WITH DRAKE’S HEARTBEAT. It’s one thing to hear that noise and know he’s near death, it’s quite another to feel the pulse in my own hands.

Okay, so the feedback on the older games was there, but a little lighter than I remember. The reason? Well, when I decided to go wireless on my Playstation 2 system, I bought a Logitec Dualshock controller. It turns out, that controller takes two “AA” batteries, and the vibration motors inside the controller handles are slightly larger than the ones in the Dualshock 3. That’s where I felt the difference.

The Dualshock 3 vibrations may be slightly less than the Logitec controller, but it doesn’t require the purchase of batteries.
The Dualshock 3 may be slightly heavier than the SixAxis, but it doesn’t take up any extra space at all.

So what’s the final verdict?

Order it, plug it in, charge it up, and get ready for the inevitable downloads from the Playstation Store to make the older PS3 games Dualshock 3 compatible.

I wouldn’t recommend a feedback peripheral without providing my own feedback…

Enjoy!

Kratos has arrived.

In a recent interview with 1up.com, Cory Balrog, game director on God of War II, spoke about the reaction to the seminal PS2 game when it was first shown to Sony bigwigs Shuhei Yoshida and Phil Harrison. ‘Very good, thank you,’ said Harrison. ‘I just have to ask this, since it seems like the obvious question. Why are we not doing this on PS3?’

God of War II was a beautiful swansong that ushered in the final days of PS2, a final testament to the system’s true power. Yet Harrison had a valid point. Everything God of War does with such brilliance – crafting visceral, bloodthirsty set pieces; creating a tangible sense of scale; placing one man against the odds – it was always going to work far better on the more powerful PS3.

Well, Harrison may have moved on to Atari, but Kratos has indeed made his way to PlayStation 3, and by all accounts its looking to be one hell of a ride. Just as God of War II wrung every last drop of power from PS2’s ageing technology, God of War III looks to scrape the PS3 barrel clean, with a hi-def, blood spattered adventure utilizing all of the machine’s potential.

Already wild claims are being thrown around – one being that the new model for Kratos alone couldn’t fit on PlayStation 2 as it doesn’t have the necessary memory. If this is the case, then PS2 would surely melt under the pressure if it attempted to convey the immeasurable scale found throughout the rest of God of War III.

The game picks up where God of War II left off, with Kratos clinging to the back of colossal Titan Gaia as it climbs Mount Olympus. Driven by hatred and vengeance, Kratos will stop at nothing to see the god Zeus dead, even if it means reigniting the Titanomachy – a colossal war between the gods and titans.

It really brings a new meaning to the ‘war’ part of the title. The epic battle will rage throughout the course of the game, framing the events of the story or taking place in the background. Imagine Kratos tearing through hordes of undead while Helios, chariot God of the sun, does battle with a flaming titan in the distance – the Colossus of Rhodes opening battle of God of War II will look positively minuscule by comparison.

Indeed, the game will take place on the bodies of the titans themselves as they climb to the peak of Mount Olympus. Some can be measured in acres, while others will tower as high as Chicago’s Sears Tower. Imagine Shadow of the Colossus multiplied tenfold. These moveable levels – made possible by the raw grunt of the PlayStation 3 – will change in real time, too, meaning gravity can unexpectedly shift as the beasts clamber their way towards the game’s inevitable conclusion.

A new weapons system allows you to change your equipment on the fly, and a streamlined list of combos also means thrashing at enemies using the Cestus, which is a massive, boulder-sized gauntlet, will be just as effective as the Blades of Athena. Rideable creatures will also appear, enabling Kratos to wear down larger creatures before jamming his blades into their shoulders, the pain inflicted translated into control.

Game director Stig Asmussen recently went on record to say that God of War III will ’start with a bang and end with a bang.’ And from the look of things today, there will also be plenty of raw, bloodthirsty bangs throughout the middle. By sticking to the tried-and-tested God of War triptych that is bloodshed, brutality and beauty, and building upwards and outwards in every way possible, Sony has demonstrated that it knows its games and the gamers who play them.

With PlayStation 3’s sheer power working away behind the scenes, we can expect some truly jaw-dropping sequences – there will be no smoke and mirrors here. So, all good things must come to an end, and if the developer is to be believed, this will be Kratos’ final outing. At least he won’t be going down without a fight.

Microsoft will no longer accept any modded Xbox 360 on the network.

If you have an account with a Xbox with a mod chip installed, you will get banned immediately from playing on the network. You will be banned for a life time, with no chances of getting rid of the ban.

many Xbox 360 gamers prefer to have backups of their favorite games because they know the expensive prices on Xbox 360 games, and the money back policy on broken discs. As long as they have a mod chip installed they will also be banned from the Xbox Live network, even if they had no intentions of breaking the law of piracy.

Luckily there is a way to get around this. There is a new gaming burning software available. That can overwrite all the protection on an original Xbox 360 game disc and create an exact 1:1 copy of the original Xbox 360 game disc.

This software also works for other platform like Ps3, Ps2, Xbox, Nintendo WII, Pc games and Game Cube. So there is lot of money to be saved here.

Here is how to copy Original Xbox 360 Games:
- You need to get the game burning software and a set of instructions That comes with the software.
- Start the software and copy and original Xbox 360 to a specific folder on your computer, or the Iso file downloaded from the internet.
- Insert en empty DVD9 for Xbox 360 or a Blue Ray Disc in case it is a Ps3 games you are burning.
- Start the copying process by carefully following the instructions directed by the game burning software.

You can make as many backups as you want to. Remember to save the original on a safe place in case you need to make new backups.

You may have thought about how to burn PS2 games, just so you could store the original and use the copy for playing, to avoid buying a whole new copy of the game. You might have tried to make copies of your PS2 games on your computer with regular software, but with no luck!

These days are now over
New technology software makes it possible for you to take copies of your favorites PS2 games on a regular DVD.
You simply just install the software on a computer follow the instructions and in no time you will have a 1:1 copy of the original PS2 game, without any need for being a technical wizard or to master any computer language.

The Software also eliminate the need for installing a mod chip into your PS2 and PS3 Consol, so your warrant stays intact, and your consol electronic circuits does not over burn.

This software is not only limited to PS2 and PS3, but also works with Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo WII and Pc Games, so there is a lot of money to be saved.

Just by using a game back up, without having a mood chip installed in your consol, allows you to keep continue playing on any gamer network. You will not get banned

So with the new back up game technology so can keep enjoying playing your games with out the fear of loosing your favorite games, because of the disc gets scratched, or the DVD get exposed to sunlight.

You just have to remember every time you get a new game, you have to make a back of the original and store it on a safe place and use the back up version of the game. That way you will have many fun hours with your favorite games in front of you.

The product, if it exists, promises to be smaller and, more importantly, cheaper.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m excited about the possibility of the Slim hitting store shelves. I’ve called on Sony multiple times to drop the price of the PlayStation 3. I believe that it’s the key to Sony staying relevant during this generation of game consoles.

But as the PS3 Slim kept us guessing, a report hit the Web on Wednesday claiming that Microsoft might be planning to ditch the Xbox 360 Pro in favor of offering just two Xbox 360 models–the Arcade and the Elite. Great. But what about a refresh?

The Xbox 360 is a beast. It’s huge. Its DVD drive is extremely loud. And its power supply is both big and heavy.

The Xbox 360 is also not nearly as reliable as competing products. Since its release, we’ve been inundated with story after story about the “red ring of death”–an issue that occurs when three red rings around the Xbox 360’s power buttons start flashing, indicating that the console is inoperable and will need to be shipped back to Microsoft to have it fixed.

The number of reported RROD instances has dropped in recent months, but it has left Microsoft with a black eye from which it has yet to recover.

So as Sony improves its hardware offerings, I think that it’s clear that Microsoft needs to do the same. It needs a slim Xbox 360.

Why it’s necessary

I think that a slim Xbox 360 would help solve almost all of Microsoft’s problems. It would potentially fit nicely into existing home theater set-ups. If it lived up to its name, the Slim would also ditch the power brick. Its new power supply would be smaller and much more manageable. Those two updates alone would make many current Xbox 360 owners happy.

But it goes beyond that. A slim Xbox 360 can be Microsoft’s “do-over.” It will address the issues the console has experienced, like that awfully loud DVD drive. It will also fix the Xbox 360’s failure issues that just don’t seem to go away. More importantly, it could address one of the console’s biggest shortcomings: a lack of an HD drive.

Yes, I believe that a slim Xbox 360 should feature a Blu-ray drive. I know that it would be like giving money to the enemy, format backer Sony, but given Blu-ray’s rise in popularity this year, I don’t think that Microsoft has much of a choice. Until streaming HD content has reached critical mass and entered millions of homes, Blu-ray is still the leading, next-gen home entertainment format.

Although we can currently access streaming content through the Xbox 360, it’s not enough. A Blu-ray drive allows Microsoft to fend off Sony’s core argument, which states that because the PlayStation 3 has a Blu-ray drive, it’s worth its $400 price tag. It’s a valid argument. It’s also an argument to which Microsoft, without a Blu-ray drive in its Xbox 360, doesn’t have an answer. That’s unacceptable.

Looking ahead

At this point, I have no doubt that Sony will be releasing the PS3 Slim sometime in the near future. It makes perfect sense for the company, since it’s trying desperately to regain lost market share.

Microsoft should follow suit. The Xbox 360 is a great console. I enjoy playing games on it. But it’s not perfect. It’s in desperate need of a refresh. And a slim Xbox 360 might just be the way to make more consumers happy. More importantly, it could help Microsoft fend off Sony’s rise in the market if a PS3 Slim is released.

The latest installment in the ongoing Sony Playstation saga is the new, ultra-slim Sony PS3 Slim. The result is a sleeker Playstation 3 Slim that is a leaner, more polished version of the original. And, in hopes of luring X-Boxers and Wii’ers away, the new Sony PS 3 Slim comes fully loaded with scads of new and tech-savvy features. But, even with the makeover, is this new Playstation new and improved, or just more of the same? Well, for starters, the current PS3 120gb slim is quite a bit less expensive than the newer version. This leaner Playstation 3 Slim comes in at just one buck short of three hundred dollars. And, even at that price, it manages to offer some pretty high tech tools, including: high-definition, Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, HDMI with 1080p, a web browser and lots more. Sony gave the Playstation 3 Slim a 120GB hard drive with a built in power supply and yes, even a free on-line gaming connection. Without a doubt, this new Playstation 3 Slim comes with all of the toys. But then, it is a toy. Right? Well, for all of you gamers out there who are primarily interested in the Playstation 3 Slim for actually playing games, you may be a bit less than enthusiastic about Sony’s latest entry into the category. First, the new Playstation 3 Slim will undoubtedly be a victim of that ongoing grudge borne by many gamers, a grudge that began with the original Playstation3.

The new system, like its only slightly older brother, will not allow you to run your tried and true Playstation 2 games. Adding insult to injury, the new Slim contains no infrared port! That means, of course, that universal remotes, with the exception of Blue-tooth, simply aren’t going to work with the Playstation 3 Slim. To make matters worse, critics of Sony’s latest baby rate it below X-Box for online gaming and media adaptations, too. Still, if you are in the market for a new gaming system, you’re sure to be impressed by the Playstation 3 Slim’s new trimmed down size, not to mention its full array of high-tech accessories. And, its surprisingly low price may make it worth overlooking those little things that are so easily remedied. After all, you do still have your old PS2 to play those games on, right?

What we have here is a 3rd person shooter with seven maps, small and big, depending on how many players join the game. There is promise (from the developers) that new maps will be available for download, but seven maps do really look quite bare for a game that has absolutely no campaign mode. In simple terms: if your PS3 is not connected to the world wide web, you have absolutely no reason to buy the game, unless of course you decide to go online because of it. So, the question is, do you really need this?

SOCOM is a straight-forward deathmatch online multiplayer game which has you siding with the Navy Seals, Special Air Service or Kommando Spezialkrafte (Germany), to name but a few. Once in the lobby you are presented with the choices of a 4-on-4, 8-on-8, or 16-on-16 battle, which automatically changes the size of the seven available maps so that you don’t have eight players running in a map so huge that you only see one enemy soldier every three minutes.

There is a nice selection of weapon choices, which is simple to access. From machine guns to shotguns and from claymores to C4s, they’re all there. When in battle the weapons do seem to be a bit light in-hand, but it is really something that you can work around by selecting another set of weapons better suited to your style.

Stages are quite well developed, even though some of them are just re-painted stages from the online PS2 SOCOM games, but blending in with the surroundings is fun.

Problem is that this is a game that does everything right, but gives us nothing new to make it essential enough to return to.

In the midst of games such as Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and Call of Duty 4, all adding a campaign mode and a decent multi-player selection, it is very difficult to imagine why anyone would want to buy this instead. If you are a die-hard SOCOM fan or an individual that craves even more military warfare than what is there already, it might just be worth taking the bullet.
