The Saros: Zenith update out today, brings more ways to play for newcomers and veterans alike

Abebe Tinari — Mon, 19 Oct 2026 12:05:05 +0000

Starting today (October 19) the Saros: Zenith update is available to all Saros owners for no additional charge.

We had two main goals for this update: add replayability for existing players who had already plumbed the depth of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible so Saros even more people can discover the addictive, explosive, exhilarating bullet ballet gameplay that made Saros one of the highest rated action games of 2026.

To begin, I’d like to introduce some of the features that make Saros more accessible for new players to pick up and play.

Keep the projectiles, but slow ‘em down

At Housemarque, a feeling we chase with our designs is the satisfaction that comes from facing down a difficult challenge, then overcoming it. Because of this, we are always wary about adjusting difficulty by toning down the parts of the game that create these interesting challenges: i.e. the spectacular attacks coming at you from our enemies. Although we realize our games can look intimidating at first, we didn’t want to compromise the combat system of Saros by reducing the projectiles that put the “bullet” in “bullet ballet”.

Enter, “Slow Game Speed”.

With this setting enabled, you can slow the game down to give yourself more time to react to hostile attack telegraphs, see the bullets as they fly towards you, and decide your response (Jump!? Dash!? Shield?! Parry!?) The attacks remain the same, but you have a little more time to deal with them.

You have control over how much the game slows down, and can even choose if you want the setting to kick in automatically during combat, or if you want to manually toggle it on when things get hairy.

Auto-fire means one less button to worry about

If there is one piece of advice I’d give players of Saros, it would be “Keep moving”. But, next to moving, the action you will likely be performing more than any other is shooting your weapon.

The new “Auto-fire” accessibility setting makes your weapon fire automatically when you are aiming at a hostile. We know that some players may find it difficult to hold a button down for extended periods of time, so we hope this will help. More broadly, it gives you one less button to worry about during combat, freeing up your brain cycles to hit that dash button at just the right time to avoid taking a hit. Importantly, however, this setting does not make reloading automatic. A perfect reload still requires a well-timed button press. Like our other features, this is designed to make the game more accessible, not remove opportunities for player skill expression.

Combined with the new Motion Sensor Aiming functionality and our existing button remapping settings, players now have many ways to customize how Saros controls.

Adding a new Layer to Carcosan Modifiers

Beyond these new accessibility features, we have also greatly expanded the “Carcosan Modifier” system from Saros. Using this system, players can apply various “Modifiers” to the world of Carcosa to tune the difficulty to their liking. Protection Modifiers alter the game in a way that makes it easier and more forgiving. Zenith brings 10 new Protection Modifiers, to give players having a difficult time even more ways of customizing their experience.

One of my favourite new Protections is “Corruption Melee Enhancement”. Corruption is one of the scariest mechanics in SAROS. When you get hit by certain projectiles, Corruption will build up on your Armor, eating away at your max Integrity. With this Modifier active, however, Corruption becomes a new source of power. When your melee strike connects with a hostile, your built up Corruption will be consumed and turned into additional damage, delivering a single devastating hit. The risk from Corruption still exists, but I hope this new way of dealing with it will encourage players to overcome their fear and get up close and personal in combat.

Zenith also adds 10 new Trial Modifiers to increase the challenge level. A particularly tricky one is “Hostile Regeneration”. When playing with the Modifier, larger hostiles can be stunned via damage from your weapons, but they will quickly regenerate and recover. Only a melee strike can finish them off, so you need to be quick on your feet to rush in and deliver the fatal blow!

These modifiers tie in directly to another of our brand new features: The New Game+ mode known as “Eclipse Layers”. After clearing Saros, mysterious new nodes will be added to the Armor Matrix back at Passage. These are the key to unlocking the gate to the next Eclipse Layer, a more intense version of the game with altered rules.

After moving to the next Eclipse Layer, the first thing you will do is select a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers. In this mode, a certain threshold of Carcosan Modifiers must be met before you can begin. It will take multiple Trial Modifiers to reach this goal, but which ones you decide to take on is entirely up to you.

With 25 different Trials to choose from, there is plenty of room to customize the challenge to fit your playstyle. But some strategic thinking is also advised, as certain combinations of Trials can synergize together to create deadly combinations…

A Crown, fit for a King

Another goal we had with Zenith was to give players a way to show off when they are playing with a bunch of difficult Trial Modifiers active. To do this, during the Eclipse Layers, Arjun now dons a Crown and his Armor glows golden! Better yet, the more Trials you take on, and the higher your Modifier Balance goes, the bigger and more splendid the Crown will become. Load up on those Trials, and see just how golden he gets!

And the Crown is not just for show, it is also the key to a new collectable found in the Eclipse Layers. These “Visions” take the form of murals and messages, etched into stone by an ancient king. 12 Visions lay waiting across Carcosa, but as you walk the path, higher levels of the Crown will be required to perceive the additional story texts they contain.

Overlord Rush, a new way to tango with Carcosa’s fiercest

Last-but-not-least is the new Overlord Rush mode. This mode – accessed via the Primary Unit in Passage – brings you into an intense training simulation in which you race to quickly dispatch the powerful Overlords from the main game, competing with friends and players around the world on an integrated leaderboard.*

Overlord Rush is divided into multiple “Sets”, each of which contains a different selection of Overlords. The “Incursion” and “Ascension” Sets contain three Overlords each, and can be completed in 10 minutes, for a nice little Saros snack. The final Set is known as “Totality”. As the name implies, it lines up all eight Overlords from around Carcosa in one continuous gauntlet!

This mode is a blast, both as a test of your personal skill, and as a way to compete with your friends*. When comparing your scores globally, you can filter the results based on your choice of Main Weapon, meaning that even if you can’t reach the top overall, try to be the master of your favorite weapon. I can’t wait to see the scores our players start posting. I wonder how many hours (minutes?) before I’m knocked out of the top 10….

Saros has reached its Zenith

We here at Housemarque are super excited for everyone to get their hands on the new content Zenith adds. I can’t wait to hear what players think about all the new control options, see your Crown-equipped Photo mode snaps, and compete (and likely lose) to your high scores in Overlord Rush.

Enjoy!

Peak climbs its way onto PS5 October 22

Hanna Fogelberg — Thu, 15 Oct 2026 17:00:08 +0000

Hello Scouts! Team Peak is happy to announce that our climbing game Peak is launching on PlayStation 5 October 22. Peak is a collaboration between two studios, Aggro Crab and Landfall, together, we make Team Peak.

Aggro Crab is an American studio based in Seattle, Washington, known for their games Another Crab’s Treasure and Going Under. Landfall is a Swedish studio based in Stockholm, known for games like Content Warning, Haste, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, Stick Fight: The Game, and many more.

Both studios became friends after meeting at a game developer conference in 2022, instantly kicking it off. After the success of Another Crab’s Treasure and Content Warning, the teams thought that it could be cool to collaborate on a small project together.

Game jam in South Korea

To celebrate our friendship, we initially made the game as a one-month game jam in Seoul, South Korea in February of 2025. Three Aggro Crab devs and four Landfall devs locked themselves in a rented apartment, fueled by Korean BBQ and coffee to make something fun together.

A game jam is a timed event where individuals or teams create a game from scratch within a strict deadline, often following a secret or shared theme. Initially, the theme for the game had been discussed by the devs while sitting in a hot tub in Sweden, a couple of months before heading to South Korea for the jam.

The result was Peak, a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom. You play solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, with your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island being to scale the mountain at its centre.

The key is to stick together, help each other out, and to find the best way to the top before hunger, hazards, or the fog gets you.

After the game jam the team went home to their respective countries, with Landfall finishing up our game Haste, and Aggro Crab working on Peak and some other projects. We then all met back up in Sweden in June to finish the game together – and to celebrate the Swedish tradition of Midsummer.

Friendship & crossplay

Peak is a game based on friendship, both in its development and gameplay.

In the game, there’s an important rule: Never abandon a friend in need. Therefore, we’re excited that with the launch on PS5 we’ve also made it possible for crossplay so that you can climb with up to three friends no matter what platform they use.

Climb to the Peak

The Mountain Takes no Prisoners! Climb through 4 biomes on your way to the Peak, each with its own life-threatening obstacles. You’ll need to scavenge for questionable food to survive and manage your injuries carefully – every setback limits your stamina, making it harder to climb.

Survive together

We have a bunch of different hazards that you will encounter in the different biomes, everything from tornadoes to poison clouds, birds, and zombies. If any of those things scare you, you can also customise your run, making it easier or harder depending on what your scout troop feels like.

Play Peak on PlayStation 5

We’re really excited for PlayStation players to join the climb. The PlayStation 5 version includes all content updates, biomes, and new items the game has received since initial launch – and yes, that includes being able to physically kick your friends using custom runs if you want to be evil. So get your troop together for Peak on PlayStation 5 October 22.

New cars**

Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo

Can be purchased from Brand Central

Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo is an electric hypercar sculpted by the wind. Its teardrop-shaped cockpit is embedded within a body sculpted with cutouts and air ducts, forming aerodynamic channels throughout the vehicle. The signature halo-shaped taillight serves as both a visual icon and a massive air outlet.

Together with innovations like the Active Wake Control System and Accretion Rims, the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.29, downforce of -1.2, and an aerodynamic efficiency rating of 4.1 through iterative simulated testing, reaching new heights in balancing low drag and high downforce for electric hypercars.

“Electric hypercars must answer a fundamental question,” said Tianyuan Li, Design Head of Xiaomi Auto. “Do we pursue extreme low drag for straight-line speed, or maximum downforce to conquer corners? The optimal solution lies in finding the perfect balance between the two.” This approach impressed Gran Turismo Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi. “When I saw that Xiaomi had resolved the contradiction between low drag and high downforce, I was truly amazed.”

Honda Civic Si Group A version ’87

The Mugen Motul Civic, which won the overall class victory at the 1987 All-Japan Touring Car Championship, was a Group A race car developed from the twin-cam ‘Si’ model that joined the 3rd generation Civic line-up in 1984. The Civic Si Group A version featured in Gran Turismo is based on this Mugen Motul Civic.

The Si, the first Honda production car in 20 years to be equipped with a DOHC engine, proved its high performance even as a production car, and was perfectly suited for Group A. Mugen developed the machine further and matured the platform through races before supplying private teams with parts.

Try this in GT7: Enter one of the new Sunday Cup events and see if you can carry momentum through every corner like the original race car did.

Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo ’26

Can be purchased from Brand Central

Mazda has continued to hone the lineage of rotary engines to perfection ever since their ‘Cosmo Sport’ was released in 1967. And the ‘GT3 CONCEPT’ was a racing car that brought back the 4-rotor engine that carries on the philosophy of the 787B, a car that won Le Mans, combining it with the latest SKYACTIV technology.

This beautiful beast has now been polished even further and has evolved for gruelling battles and competition on the track

Try this in GT7: Take it into a World Touring Car event and learn how every adjustment and every apex can shave precious time off a lap.

Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line ’23

Can be purchased from Brand Central

Since its first appearance in 1996, the Step WGN (pronounced ‘Step Wagon’) has always been a minivan that has been popular among families with its large interior space, square form, and utilitarian packaging, including its low floor and large sliding doors.

Out of the lineup, the ‘Spada’ has been given a wide and sturdy front grill, and the chromed moulding encircling the bottom of the body gives it a sense of power and class. The ‘Spada Premium Line’ takes this one step further with special platinum chrome accents. This is an upper-class model that ensures its passengers have a sublime experience from daily commutes to long distance driving.

Try this in GT7: Load it into Scapes and discover just how photogenic a family hauler can be against some of Gran Turismo’s most beautiful locations.

Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston ’86

Can be purchased from Used Cars

The Citroën 2 CV is a masterpiece of the French People’s car, produced for 42 years since its release in 1948.

Its design is so simple it has been called an umbrella with wheels, but it came with a flexible suspension that allowed it to carry eggs without cracking through any level of rough terrain, a large interior allowing it to be used for long trips, and a price tag making it affordable for anyone. Even as the times changed, the core foundation of the design was never changed and its own unique philosophy was maintained. This garnered passionate support for the 2 CV from car lovers all around the world.

Try this in GT7: Take a slow drive around the Sportsland Sugo circuit. Turn off the racing mindset and appreciate a car that was designed to make every trip an adventure.

Helldivers 2: Scope of Authority Premium Warbond launches Oct 20

Katherine Baskin — Tue, 13 Oct 2026 13:00:36 +0000

Picture this: A chilly autumn breeze ripples through the forest as a battalion of Automatons amble towards an outpost. They move together like cogs in a larger wheel, chanting in their electric tongues as they march, when a peal of thunder breaks their mechanical trance.

But it’s not thunder. It’s you, Helldiver– Liberty’s sharpest shooter taking aim from inside the tree line, busting them down to bolts and puddles of bubbling oil.

On October 20, the Ministry of Defense will authorize deployment of the Scope of Authority Premium Warbond* – the next leap forward in long-range and clandestine combat solutions to guarantee your squad never misses the mark.

Weapons & Stratagems

The R-40 Sightliner bolt-action sniper rifle | The best sniper knows the balance of stability and power is a delicate one, and a primary sniper rifle that can balance both is a tall order. After extensive research and trials in the Ministry of Defense, they have developed an elegant solution: The R-40 Sightliner bolt-action sniper rifle. Your trusty sidekick with the eagle eyes, the Sightliner can provide powerful armor piercing rounds and long-range precision.

P-44 Mist | The perfect companion to the exactitude of a sniper rifle primary is something that can provide that same steadfastness with the speed and versatility of a pistol. That brings us to the purpose-built P-44 Mist, a one-handed machine pistol designed for a compact carry. If the enemy closes in on you, carve a path out with the help of the P-44!

AMW-20 Apex | As we have faced larger and more heavily-armored foes, we have responded by making a more powerful and armor-penetrating, backpack-fed, colossal anti-materiel rifle featuring assisted reload: the AMW-20 Apex. The Apex is far from subtle, but there is not much in the galaxy that could survive an assault from it.

LAS-44 Nova | For the advanced tech-loving teams, there is a new entry to the LAS series of energy weapons: the LAS-44 Nova! This sleek rifle has the luxury of infinite ammo provided by weapons of its type, but it fires a high-precision non-explosive thermal projectile after a short charge cycle. A new optimization routine designed specifically for better cooldown performance means your rifle will be firing longer after all targets have been eliminated.

G-11 Caltrops | When thrown, the G-11 Caltrops scatters a wide field of proximity-detonated submunitions that slow and stun foes, making them easier to get in your sights.

Armors, passive, and more

Long distance shooters know better than anyone how much time you spend in the cover of nature to get your shot. That’s why the SS-33 Mimetic Marshal light armor is inspired by old-fashioned ghillie suits without sacrificing on modern tactical polish. Utilizing state-of-the-art light-diffusing netting and adaptive fiber technology, the Mimetic Marshall, and the coordinating Mimetic Mesh cape and player card, will let you blend into your surroundings while keeping you light enough on your feet to move in on your mark.

If your tactical approach mixes in more forward marching than camping in the bushes, the SS-15 Focal Point medium armor can round out the edges of your loadout with integrated adaptive camouflage and cutting-edge optics in a stylish asymmetrical visor. The Focal Point armor looks best paired with the Boundary Banner cape and player card.

No matter which one you choose for the job, both armors are equipped with the Stationary Shroud passive, which reduces weapon sway and detection range by mimicking foliage concealment while in the crouched or prone position. Crouch down and watch as your Helldiver disappears into the wilderness around you: the perfect cover.

Along with the impressive stratagems, weapons, and armors, you’ll also get the Manual Ballistic Projection emote and a new title to claim to demonstrate your prowess as a distance shooter: Longshot.

Helldivers, your scope of authority has just been widened – time to set your sights on enemies of Managed Democracy once and for all. The Scope of Authority Premium Warbond launches October 20!

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School comes to PS5 on November 5

Michelle Huttunen — Tue, 13 Oct 2026 12:04:54 +0000

Hello Puzzlers and PlayStation fans! The team at Coin Crew Games is excited to share that Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School will be coming to PS5 on November 5. To celebrate, we are sharing some deep-dive information about what players can expect in this sequel that expands the first game from a more linear narrative to a whole new open-world campus. Of course, you can also expect couch or online co-op play available from the get go between the full campus, story and all of its puzzles.

Whether you played the first game or not, Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is open to everyone and represents a more fully-realized campus experience. We want the Academy to feel like a place players can get lost in, filled with characters, quests, secrets, and plenty of reasons to explore between escapes.

Welcome (back) to campus

Our campus is broken up into several distinct sections, each filled to the brim with quests and puzzles for you to encounter throughout the journey. For this lesson, we’re sharing new details on the Headmaster’s Tower and Humanities Campus, which makes a more expanded return from the first game after [spoiler!] Quanty burned down the library in the first game.

The Headmaster’s Tower was one of the first spaces we worked on when designing the updated visuals in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School and it inspired the most discussion about how to make a space feel truly “Academic” and further push the worldbuilding before expanding on each location’s unique identities. Players will get a sense of the Academy’s history more than ever with this area while still discovering plenty of playful and strange puzzles.

This also led us back to the Headmaster’s Office, which was the setting of our very first escape in the original Escape Academy. The location became our visual target as we began leveling up the art style for Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School. We hope players will see how we pushed the visual identity of the Academy further while still making it recognizable to returning players.

From concepts to being fully realized, the Humanities Campus has seen the most deviation from the first entry’s 2D map layout. It was a fun challenge designing this game to be more open world as we went through a lot of iteration with this area. At first, things felt too open, and we eventually found lots of new ways for players to engage with the area like interactable landmarks, side quests and escapes.

As the art director, one of my favorite parts of building the game has been making the world itself part of the experience. Puzzles aren’t strictly limited to rooms anymore. This campus itself will reward you for staying curious.

Because part of the Humanities Campus had to be rebuilt after the first game’s story, I expanded on the classical architecture inspiration from the original game’s library design. Compared to the rough and gritty industrial vibes of the Science Campus, or the colorful Arts Campus, I wanted to give this area a cozier feel, that might encourage a quiet coffee break or a philosophical puzzle discussion amongst students, while still inspiring some sense of mystery and discovery between its faculty offices, classrooms and library.

You won’t have access to the Humanities Campus right away, but you’ll catch glimpses of it often with a striking keyhole-shaped fountain that can be seen across some of the best sightseeing spots on campus for you and the other students. This is intentional as we designed the campus itself to be its own living, breathing puzzle for you to unravel; we want exploration to feel as rewarding as puzzle-solving. Our hope is to create moments where players see something interesting before they understand how to reach it.

We also hid a lot of keyhole embellishments all around the Academy, see if you can find them all.

That’s all for today’s lesson. The team and I are thrilled to be bringing Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School back to PlayStation fans around the world when the game launches for PlayStation 5 on November 5. We can’t wait for players to explore the Academy, uncover its secrets, meet new and returning faces, and discover that there’s much more to this school than meets the eye.

Stay tuned for more updates about the game.
