Google gets a new favicon

Did you guys see Google's new favicon? I was just checking my iGoogle account few days ago and I noticed that there was a new favicon. At first I thought that it was a mistake because Google had just changed their favicon few months ago. But then I check Google's blog and saw their anouncement.

Here is what the new favicon looks like:I personally don't like the new favicon that much. First of all, Google just changed their favicon. Why did they need to change it again? Secondly, the favicon is not too visually pleasing. There are way too many colors and it is hard to spot the "g". I get that Google is trying to promote its new browser Chrome by using its colors on its new favicon but those colors just don't work for a tiny favicon.

So what do you guys think of this new favicon? Hot or cold?

I am not a big Stumble UpOn (SU) fan. I prefer to just stick with Digg as it drives a lot of traffic to your blog/website in a short period of time. It's not permanent traffic but it's good enough. However, I started to experiment with SU lately and discovered that it is a very powerful social bookmarking site.

All you have to do is register at SU and then try to be a part of community. Discover new comment, write some reviews and try to get in contact with other users. Make some friends and no enemies and then when you submit a post, let your friends at SU know about it. Recently, one of my posts at my other blog received tons of traffic just because of my friensd at SU. They liked my post so they decided to review it on SU.

Finally, I truly think that SU is worth your time. The site is a little confusing but you will get it sooner or later.

Digg or Stumble Upon? - Which works for you?

As you all probably know, Digg and Stumble Upon are two most famous social bookmarking sites. Many users log into these sites every day to find interesting content that would be difficult to find otherwise. I usually go on Digg every day or two to see which articles are creating buzz on the Internet. My favorite section is the Offbeat section where you will find content (pictures, articles, video) about wierd stuff happening in the world.

Stumble Upon is a good site as well but I simply don't find it very user friendly. It's difficult to find content on the site and the voting system is very confusing. Nonetheless, there have been times when I have found some great stuff on that site.

So if you are a user of both of these social bookmarking sites, which one suites you the most? Why?

You may have noticed that I took some time off from this blog. That is mainly because I had to focus on my education and some other blogs that I had. I had been working on my other blogs and developing them all this time. They are doing quite well and I hope that they continue to do so. Now I am back with this blog and I will try my best to regularly update it.

Where is this blog going?
For the last few months, this blog is turning more and more into a general blog and I don't think that's bad. I think general blogs give you a lot of freedom about what to write. I treat this blog as a way to express my emotions and I think that I will continue to do so. So. I now announce that PTC Dollars is now a general blog where I will post about stuff that I like. Stay tune and you will not be disappointed.

Google's PageRank update is over!!!

Believe it or not but Google's PageRank update is not over. Few days ago, a lot of of webmasters and blog owners started noticing change in their PageRank. All the changes were made in around two - three days. Some sites gained rank while others lost. One of my blogs got PR1 from N/A and that was it! None of my other blogs, including this one, saw any change. They remained like nothing happened. I was quite disappointed with this PageRank update since I was expecting one of my sites to go up from PR3 to at least PR4 or PR5 as I have been getting a lot of backlinks. Well now I will just have to wait for the next update which will be around three months later and see the results.

How was the update for you? Gained or lost?

Alzheimer's has been gaining a lot of popularity lately. It truly is a very serious disease that can completely destroy a person's life. I have started learning more about this disease and while looking for more information on the Internet, I stumbled upon a very useful piece of information. There will be a Alzheimer's Memory Walk soon to raise awareness and funds about this disease. All volunteers are welcome to take part in this walk to show their support and help fight against Alzheimer’s.

There are several ways to volunteer. You can become a team captain and help others to raise funds. Team captains do not have to walk! You can also be in the event planning committee and help coordinate the event. Finally, you can also be a part of the local event committee.

Memory walks will be held in more than 600 communities. Each memory walk will be approximately 2 – 3 miles long. The walks will be held on weekend mornings in Fall. Lets team up with others and walk together to demonstrate our support to others.

Few years ago, I went on a vacation to a country located in Middle East called Syria. I had heard a lot about how beautiful this Muslim country is and always wanted to go there. So I did but things did not work out so well. First of all, I did not know what places to visit when I reached Syria and secondly, the places that I did visit did not turn out to be as good as they were supposed to be according to some people. My whole vacation was wasted because I trusted what some people said online about Syria. I should have known better and looked at some reliable source such as MyGreatWorld.

I recently heard about this site and really like it. I explored it a little more in detail so that I can share it with you guys. MyGreatWorld is a photo sharing community where you can look at photos by other members and leave comments. The great thing is that you can browse the world map and click on your favorite or desired location to find more information and photos about it. For example, I can click on USA and then New York to get pictures of the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building.

Members upload pictures of different places for other members to view. You can also leave comments and share your experience about a particular place with others. This is a great site if you are looking to go to a vacation or have just come from a vacation. Share your experience and simply help others.

Google discussed how it is always looking for innovative and creative staff to work with. Google introduces "Google Webmaster Tools Access Provide Program"

I am sure that most of you have heard of the famous Google Webmaster Tools. It is used by a lot of webmasters all around the world to make their websites search engine friendly. However, Google wants to extend the program to more webmasters and that is why they are now going to introduce the Google Webmaster Tools Access Provide Program. This program will allow domain hosts to provide the privilege of Goole Webmaster Tools to their customers.

I am sure this will be a great success for Google as they will now be able to reach more webmasters than ever before.

Amit Singhal's introduction to Google Rankings

Recently Google's search researcher Amit Singhal wrote a post on Google's blog in an attempt to explain Google Ranking system. The post was called Introduction to Google Ranking. In the post, Amit talked about three major factors that determine Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

The three factors that Amit listed were:
1) Best locally relevant results served globally.
2) Keep it simple.
3) No manual intervention.

He explained all these three factors in detail to his readers. Furthermore, he also tackled some major questions in his post. Before concluding his post, he stated that he will write a follow-up post to this one for his readers.

Last time I discussed backlinks with you. Backlinks are a great way to increase your PR...in fact they are one of the most important ways. I will continue to talk about backlink a little more in this post. Mainly, I will be discussing some ways of getting backlinks.

First of all, you should start exchanging links with blogs that have relevant content compared to your blog. Do not get A LOT of links. Keep it under control and exchange link regularly every now and then.

Secondly, start submitting your blogs to directories to get approved. Once approved, you link will be displayed in directories and that will help you get backlinks.

Working towards higher PR - part 1

As I promised earlier, I will be sharing with you guys the different techniques that I am using to achieve a higher PR in the next Google PageRank update. There are many different ways to improve your pagerank and I will be sharing most of them with you but one by one.

Backlinks
What are backlinks? Backlinks are links on other sites that link to your site. Suppose I add a link to your site on my blogroll then that would count as a backlink for you and if you do the same for my site then it would also count as a backlink for me. Each backlink is seen as a vote from one site to another. The more backlinks, or votes, you have the higher you PR will be. However, not all the backlinks are worth the same. Backlinks from sites with high PR count more than backlinks from low PR sites. Thus it is important to get some backlinks from websites that have a high PageRank.

I suggest that you all start exchanging links as soon as possible to get some backlinks and work towards getting a higher PR. Later I will tell you more about backlinks and which sites you should be interested in getting links from.
