Fantastic Racing On The Horizon!

Silverstone Drama Leaves One Driver Lucky To Be Alive

An entertaining qualifying competition saw Carlos Sainz land his first ever pole position in

F1, just pipping Max Verstappen to top spot. Charles Leclerc was third with Sergio Perez. 4^th followed by Lewis Hamilton in fifth and Lando Norris in sixth.

Fernando Alonso was seventh with George Russell eighth and Zhou Guanyu in ninth.

However, the start of the race saw huge drama as Alex Albon, George Russell and Zhou Guanyu were involved in a collision that saw Zhou’s car turned onto its roof, sliding along the track and over the tyre wall and into the perimeter fencing.

It was a horrific crash and despite Albon and Guanyu both being taken to hospital for checks, both were released a short time later with no major injuries.

After the restart though it was a race where pit stops and a safety car provided us with some of the best racing of the season.

With a raft of new upgrades Lewis Hamilton was making great progress through the field and at one point, looked like he could pit and still keep the lead, only for a slower pit stop to put him behind Sainz and Leclerc.

Meanwhile Max Verstappen had issues with his aerodynamics that saw him well off the pace and in a battle to remain in the top ten for the latter half of the race.

After Esteban Ocon’s car gave up the ghost, a safety car was required, and that put the top cars right behind each other.

From the restart, Sainz retained the lead and then Hamilton was engaged in a superb battle with Perez, Leclerc and Alonso for a place on the podium.

Several laps of thrilling racing later and it was Perez who finished second with Hamilton third ahead of Leclerc.

Austrian Grand Prix Preview & Tips

The Red Bull Ring is home to Red Bull Racing and also hosts the Austrian Grand Prix, so you would expect the Red Bull team to go well on their home circuit.

After a below par performance from Max Verstappen in Great Britain, he will certainly be hoping to bounce back and claim more points as his rivals managed to gain a little ground on him last weekend, although it could have been far worse if the race had finished as a Ferrari 1-2.

With Mercedes making improvements, Verstappen will know he needs a win here to re-establish himself as the fastest car on the track once again and he won’t have a better chance to do that on a track he should be well familiar with.

Betting Odds

DraftKings Sportsbook has Verstappen as the -110 favorite to win the race, with his team mate Sergio Perez +1300. However, Charles Leclerc is +220 with Carlos Sainz +900 to land a second win in successive races.

Mercedes improvement has seen Hamilton’s price to win the race come in to +1200 while teammate George Russell is the only other credible winner according to the bookmakers at +1900.

I do expect Mercedes to continue their improvement here but I think it will be Ferrari in their sights at this track as I am confident Red Bull should reassert their dominance and land a 1-2 here, with Verstappen beating Perez to claim the win.

Trevor Lawrence Over 22.5 Regular Season Passing TDs -110

Trevor Lawrence played in one of the worst-designed offenses in recent NFL history last season. His offensive line didn’t protect well, his receivers dropped an impressive amount of catchable balls, and the defense couldn’t get off the field. This season, the coaching staff is new, the defense is improved and the offense is also improved.

If you go back and watch most of Trevor Lawrence’s games last season, you’ll realize the offense was an absolute disaster. The route trees were ancient, the structure was bad, and you’d see all those drops and balls that didn’t count as drops (even though they should’ve been caught). Trevor Lawrence is much better than how people currently perceive him. This season, he just needs one passing TD per game and six games of two passing touchdowns to break this 22.5 mark. That should be easy for him.

Justin Fields Over 18.5 Regular Season Passing TDs -110

Justin Fields didn’t really assume the full-time role until a month into the season last year. From Week 6 on (in the games he started), Fields averaged 1.2 passing TDs per game. Most QBs take a big leap in year 2 and Fields should be no exception. Even at the same TD rate he had in that stretch last season, Fields would be on pace for 20 passing TDs.

With a new coach in-place and Fields getting more time with his offensive weapons, we should expect Fields to at least hit the 20 TD mark this season. His season had more low notes than high, but the division is still relatively weak overall, and the schedule is very favorable. This is a very low bar.

Davis Mills Over 21.5 Regular Season Passing TDs -110

It may be a bold declaration, but Davis Mills was flat-out better than Mac Jones last season (watch the tape). With a poor offensive structure, a lack of talented offensive weapons, a new coach, and virtually everything working against him, Davis Mills put up at least two TDs in five of 12 starts last season. In 12 starts, he had 16 TDs and 10 INTs. Given the circumstances, it’s befuddling how this guy has a line of just 21.5.

He has another new head coach this season, but the personnel has improved on both sides of the ball. Like Justin Herbert, he has been dropped into a bad situation and still thrived very early. Guys like that should instill the most confidence in those who bet on them. They could use any number of excuses for being bad, but neither were as rookies. This is my favorite Over bet among all the QBs.

AJ Dillon Over 810.5 rushing yards +110

Normally, I’m all on the Unders when it comes to running backs. However, this one just doesn’t add-up. Last season, AJ Dillon had a surprisingly good second season. On paper, it wasn’t especially impressive, but Dillon assumed Jamaal Williams’ role as the lesser back in a split backfield and had some really impressive games. Dillon had a solid 4.3 YPC with 803 yards and 5 TDs. This season, his workload should get a slight bump, as Aaron Jones becomes the primary but aging weapon in the offense.

Aaron Jones’ workload has now steadily decreased over the past three seasons. The 27 year old Jones has only played one full season (2019) and year 6 hasn’t been kind to RBs from a health perspective in the past. If Jones misses just a few games, Dillon’s workload will easily surpass his 2021 totals. I expect Dillon to be closer to 1,000 yards than 800.

Antonio Gibson Under 7.5 rushing TDs -150

The odds here are not favorable, but the reasoning is sound. The Commanders already stated in the offseason they want to have a committee backfield. In addition, the Commanders drafted Alabama running back Brian Robinson (a thumper) in the third round. Washington also re-signed JD McKissic (a pass catching specialist), despite the league trends against veteran RBs. Gibson’s 4.02 YPC average wasn’t especially impressive either.

With all the indicators suggesting a large drop in carries, a 150 yard reduction in overall production sounds very reasonable and likely. Any injury to Gibson along the way would essentially assure this bet is a winner (as unfortunate as that would be, but we have to mention it).

Miles Sanders Under 6.5 Rushing TDs -140

A few weeks ago, Miles Sanders came out and told the world (in an interview) that he wouldn’t draft himself in fantasy football this season. That’s bad sign number 1. The second bad sign is his touchdown mark from the year prior: 0 TDs. That’s right, Miles Sanders had zero touchdowns in 2021. Was this just bad luck? No, he went down a few times inside the 2 yard line and failed to get in, but the offense isn’t favorable for backs finding the end zone anyways.

When the Eagles get near the goal line, Jalen Hurts tends to look for Dallas Goedert or he takes off on the ground himself. Miles Sanders already lacks a presence in goal line packages, but their offense is similar to Buffalo with their QB run tendencies and WR/TE target shares. It’s realistic to expect Miles to break a few for TDs this season and even get more goal line touches, but six TDs is really pushing it.

Travis Etienne Jr Under 5.5 Rushing TDs -115

Last year in the preseason, Travis Etienne went down with a Lisfranc injury that sidelined him for the entire season. James Robinson dominated touches and was surprisingly efficient and productive. This season, there is an unusual amount of optimism for Etienne to breakout. However, there are some inherent flaws with this logic behind the hype. First off, Etienne is bad between the tackles. Even at Clemson, behind a world class line, he struggled hitting the right holes and splitting gaps between the tackles.

Now, Etienne is stuck behind a subpar NFL line, coming off an injury no running back has ever really successfully returned from. I expect Etienne will be a good pass catcher and good outside the tackles, but the goal line work will undoubtedly go elsewhere. I feel great about the under for Etienne’s rushing TD total.

Dalvin Cook Under 1150.5 Rushing yards -115

Last season, Dalvin Cook rushed for 1159 yards in 13 games. Over his five-year career, Cook has had one season over 1160 yards and he’s never played more than 14 games in a season. Last year, Cook’s YPC dropped from the year prior, and his YPT was a career low. I’m not saying we should expect Cook to completely drop-off, but we shouldn’t be expecting the second-best season from a guy entering his sixth year in the league (with an already-high touches count).

Cook should realistically be platooning more with Alexander Mattison. Even so, the Vikings expressed their desire to go heavier through the air this season. That means the 250 rush attempts from Cook will likely take a hit.

Course Review (Renaissance Club – North Berwick, Scotland)

The Scottish Open is one of the premier events of the European Tour and the ideal tune-up for The Open (AKA British Open). The Renaissance Club is a classic Links style course. Links courses are the original golf course models. Simply put, all the natural contours of the land and the lay of the course is where the course is constructed. All that is done is alterations to the grass. As opposed to a vast number of courses in America (target golf), links courses are very contoured. In addition, the bunkers here are steep and deep.

This year, the Scottish Open is carrying a lot of points for both the European Tour and the PGA Tour (hence the stacked field). The rolling contours highlight this picturesque course along the coast. Fescue (mostly) are more forgiving to those who struggle on the Greens, and this course has a good amount. The area is very rich in golf history, but this course is only 11 years old (in its current state). Scoring on this course will be heavily weather-dependent, but the winning score should be between -10 to -24.

John Deere Classic Review & Scottish Open Preview

Last week, Chesson Hadley squeaked-in at 10^th, paying +900. Howell, Long, and Theegala all finished inside the Top 20 for conservative cashes. Hardy and Laird (Top 40) rounded-out our cashes for the week. Overall, it was a low ceiling week, but one you likely cashed-in a decent return for some of these.

The Scottish Open will have its most stacked field in the history of this event. With relatively little transition time prior to the Open in years past, the points boost this season has allowed the world’s best a unique chance to fine tune prior to next week’s Open.

Metrics to track this week

Ball Striking is crucial for Links style courses. Even though this course has some alterations, it still has a links feel to it. Strokes Gained: Approach will be the most critical category this week, while Strokes Gained: Total will also be heavily emphasized this week. Many of the top PGA pros have yet to play this course in a PGA event, so “prior success” will likely only apply to those who thrived amongst weaker fields in the past here.

It’s also worth reiterating: the bunkers here are extremely steep, so Strokes Gained: Approach is extremely critical.

Again, don’t cover the board this week. Choose your plays based on the returns you’re looking-for.

Off the Tee – Five Undervalued Players

Russell Knox T-5 at +3500 / T-10 at +1400 / T-20 at +550

Russell Knox is the value play this week. He’s not played in an official event here since 2019 (missed the cut), but his metrics are favorable. Knox is the 84^th ranked played in the FedEx Cup standings. He’s one of the three best Scottish golfers on tour, and he’s likely had quite a few trips to the Renaissance Club over the past few years. Knox has missed the last two cuts, but he’s had four Top 15 finishes on the season.

Russell Knox is 3^rd in GIRP, 16^th in Driving Accuracy, 59^th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 33^rd in Strokes Gained: Approach, and 42^nd in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. Knox has only played this event once, so the sample size is a little too small. With the strengths Knox possesses, he profiles as a decent finisher this week.

Robert MacIntyre T-5 at +1400 / T-10 at +650 / T-20 at +280

Robert MacIntyre is Scotland’s next best hope in the sport. He’s 25 years old and a former golfer at McNeese State University. After receiving a temporary PGA Tour status a few years back, MacIntyre has had the most success at Links style golf courses. He finished 6^th at his first PGA Tour event (The Open) in 2020, and 8^th at The Open last season. This season, McIntyre has played in six PGA Tour events, made the cut in five, and finished 23^rd at this years Masters.

Robert MacIntyre doesn’t have enough events to qualify for the advanced stats rankings, but he’s done so much already to prove to us he can finish well here. Last season, he finished 18^th in this event and 14^th the year prior. Trust the results and the familiarity on this course for the local, rising star.

Ryan Fox T-5 at +1000 / T-10 at +450 / T-20 at +210

Ryan Fox is a 35 year old golfer from New Zealand (ranked 46^th in the World Golf Rankings). Statistically, he’s the longest driver in the world (324 yard average). His most notable finish at a links course was 16^th at The Open in 2019. Last season, he finished 44^th at this event. This season, Fox has one international victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic. Despite his small sample size and difficult event history, Fox’s average round is still under 70.

Through a very limited sample this season of just two PGA Tour events (PGA Championship and US Open), Fox would be Top 6 in Strokes Gained: Approach and Top 2 in Driving Distance. Ryan Fox really struggles with the putter, but the greens are a little more forgiving at the Renaissance Club. He’s a classic big hitter who struggles with both accuracy and putting. However, those weaknesses should be forgivable on a course such as this.

Lucas Herbert T-5 at +1000 / T-10 at +500 / T-20 at +225

Lucas Herbert is a 26 year old Aussie who is steadily improving on tour. He’s currently 45^th in the FedEx Cup standings and has one PGA Tour victory on the season (Butterfield Bermuda Championship). For all the talk about metrics we’ve had in regards to Links style courses, Herbert is the anomaly. Despite atrocious numbers on approach (202^nd place), Herbert has finished 4^th here each of the last two seasons. He’s clearly a different golfer in this environment, not to mention, a world class putter.

Lucas Herbert is 6^th in Sand Save percentage, 61^st in Driving Distance, 47^th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, 2^nd in Strokes Gained: Putting, and a whopping 145^th in Strokes Gained: Total. His scores aren’t low this season, but his past performance at this event inspires confidence this week. I love Herbert to finish T-20 this week.

Tommy Fleetwood T-5 at +900 / T-10 at +400 / T-20 at +190

Tommy Fleetwood is a 31 year old English golfer. He’s 72^nd on Tour this season but finished 5^th at the PGA Championship a little over a month ago. Fleetwood finished 2^nd here in 2020 and 26^th here last season (despite shooting only one stroke worse than in 2020). Tommy Fleetwood only has two Top 10 finishes on the season. Given the field this year at the Scottish Open, it’s reasonable to expect he’s a coin flip to Top 20, but anything else may be a tad ambitious.

Tommy Fleetwood is 12^th in Sand Save percentage, 15^th in Scoring Average, 76^th in Strokes Gained: Approach, 9^th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, 37^th in Strokes Gained: Putting, 41^st in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and 28^th in Strokes Gained: Total.

On the Green – Five Popular Players to Finish High

Corey Conners To Win +5000 / T-5 at +900 / T-10 at +450 / T-20 at +190

Corey Conners has had a relatively safe season (minus the big hits). Conners only has two Top 5 finishes on the season, but has eight Top 13 finishes and five missed cuts. He played this event last season but failed to make the cut (-1 through two rounds). After finishing 13^th at the Memorial, Conners finished 6^th at the RBC Canadian Open. Corey missed the cut the following week at the US Open and has not played an event since.

Corey Conners is 22^nd in Scoring Average, 43^rd in Birdie Average, 5^th in GIRP, 26^th in Driving Accuracy, 6^th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 27^th in Strokes Gained: Approach, 18^th in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and 18^th in Strokes Gained: Total. He’s got a very small sample size here, but all this time off should help Corey get prepped for Links golf.

Hideki Matsuyama To Win +3000 / T-5 at +650 / T-10 +320 / T-20 at +140

We haven’t felt this good about Hideki Matsuyama since we successfully picked him to win in our first article of the season. In two of his last four events, Hideki finished 3^rd (AT&T Byron Nelson) and 4^th at the US Open. Matsuyama doesn’t have a lot of experience on Links style courses, but he’s among the best from a metrics standpoint. It could be much more of an event for Hideki to just get acclimated, but we like his advanced numbers and form.

Hideki Matsuyama is 13^th in Scoring Average, 10^th in Birdie Average, 21^st in Eagles (holes per), 6^th in GIRP, 49^th in Driving Distance, 65^th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 3^rd in Strokes Gained: Approach, 57^th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, 10^th in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and 22^nd in Strokes Gained: Total.

Matt Fitzpatrick To Win +1600 / T-5 +360 / T-10 +190 / T-20 -115

The last time we saw Matt Fitzpatrick, he was hoisting the US Open trophy. Since then, his focus has been on prepping for The Open. This week, Matt will have a chance to continue his good form at the Scottish Open. Fitzpatrick finished 14^th here in 2019, 42^nd in 2020, and 2^nd here last season. On the PGA Tour over the past two months, no one has been hotter than Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick has three Top 5 and one Top 10 finish in his last five events.

Matt Fitzpatrick is 10^th in Sand Save percentage, 2^nd in Scoring Average, 36^th in Driving Accuracy, 8^th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 22^nd in Strokes Gained: Approach, 3^rd in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, 36^th in Strokes Gained: Putting, 1^st in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and 2^nd in Strokes Gained: Total. I love Fitzpatrick as a Top 5 play this week and even as a winner.

Xander Schauffele To Win +1800 / T-5 +400 / T-10 +200 / T-20 -110

I’m over Xander at this point. We joke, all the time, about how X never gives it to us, and of course he wins the Travelers in yet another week we don’t pick him. Aside from Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander is the hottest player on tour right now. Xander has not finished worse than 18^th in any of his last six events. Over that stretch, he has two wins (Zurich Classic & Travelers Championship), a 5^th place finish at AT&T Byron Nelson, and three additional Top 20 finishes. He is a heat check play this week.

Xander Schauffele is 2^nd in Sand Save percentage, 8^th in Scoring Average, 5^th in Birdie Average, 12^th in GIRP, 57^th in Driving Accuracy, 46^th in Driving Distance, 38^th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 8^th in Strokes Gained: Approach, 31^st in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, 31^st in Strokes Gained: Putting, 8^th in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, and 4^th in Strokes Gained: Total.

Justin Thomas To Win +1400 / T-5 +320 / T-10 +165 / T-20 -140

Justin Thomas is one of the best irons players on tour right now. He’s 29 and in his prime, sitting 4^th in the FedEx Cup standings. JT has 11 Top 10 finishes on the season, but just one victory. Most recently, he finished 3^rd at the RBC Canadian Open and 37^th at the US Open. From a Links-style perspective, Thomas is a bit up and down. Last season, he finished 40^th at The Open, but finished 11^th at The Open in 2019. Like many of the other top players, JT has taken time-off to prep for this British stretch.

Speaking in a pre-tournament news conference, the American lambasted some of the comments made by LIV Golf Invitational professionals about the US PGA and it’s leader, Jay Monahan.

“A Lot Of Guys That Are Hypocrites”

When asked about those players that had left to join the LIV Golf Tour, Horschel was

strident in his response.

“I’ve been really frustrated by it because there’s a lot of guys that are hypocrites, that aren’t telling the truth, that are lying about some things and I just can’t stand to sit here anymore and be diplomatic about it as I have been in the past,” stated Horschel.

While stating that he doesn’t personally hold ill will against players electing to go and play on the LIV tour, he does “have ill will towards comments that they’ve made, comments saying that Jay Monahan doesn’t listen, the PGA Tour doesn’t listen to us.”

“They work tirelessly for us to reap the financial rewards and have all the opportunities that we have. At the same time, I am one of 200-plus members of the PGA Tour. I am the PGA Tour, just as 200 other members are the PGA Tour, so when you take shots at the PGA Tour and Jay Monahan, you’re not just taking shots at them, you’re taking shots at us.”

“Shouldn’t Be Coming Back”

Additionally, Horschel had comments for golfers Ian Poulter, Justin Harding and Adrian Otaegui, who have joined the LIV tour, but who have had their appeal against the DP World Tour suspending them from the Scottish Open upheld, meaning that the players will be able to play in the event this weekend.

“I believe they made their bed,” Horschel commented after the news broke early Tuesday.

“They decided to go play on a tour, and they should go play that tour. They shouldn’t be coming back over here to play the DP World Tour or the PGA Tour.”

“To say that they wanted to also support this tour or the DP or PGA Tour going forward while playing the LIV tour is completely asinine in my opinion.”

Horschel confirmed that divisions in the locker room when LIV Tour and DP World and US PGA tour players were getting together were starting to happen, saying that “some are more upset than others. I have no ill will, but I’m just tired of hearing comments that aren’t truthful.”

Casey The Latest To Leave For LIV Tour

Horschel’s comments came after Englishman Paul Casey, the current World Number 27, announced he was joining the LIV Golf Tour earlier in the week.

So far, LIV Golf Tour players have been permitted to play in the US Open last month and they will also be allowed to play at the British Open later this month.

However, being allowed to play at a regular tour event, jointly organised by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, has not been attempted until now and it seems Poulter, Otaegui and Harding could be the first LIV Tour players to do that this week.

As the row between the tours rumbles on, and more players start to drift off to the LIV Golf Tour, it seems that this row will continue for a good while yet.

“And he handled it as good as he could’ve. It makes my job easier playing with someone like him. He can stretch the floor, finish at the rim. He protects me, he’s got my back on the defensive end. So love playing with him. It’s been one game, and the chemistry’s only getting stronger.”

Jalen Williams, the Thunder’s second pick in the 2022 NBA Draft at 12, also had a positive start scoring 17 points as they won their opening game of the Summer League in style.

Who Has The Resources To Take On Two Superstars?

Scratching together enough cap space and resources to attract one superstar

to a team may be doable for most NBA teams.

Doing that for two becomes immeasurably tougher.

You need a team with deep pockets, a coach used to dealing with the best players in the NBA and with a proven capability to win.

Little wonder then that as soon as this story broke, many experts were predicting that if the Heat and Suns don’t make a move for Durant and Irving soon, then the Los Angeles Lakers would be the only feasible landing spot for them.

Make no mistake about it, signing Durant and Irving would be arguably the biggest deal in NBA history.

If Rudy Gobert is worth four first round picks, plus four players and the rights to this year’s first round pick, then Durant and Irving’s value is going to be much, much greater than that.

It’s this situation that has many expecting the Lakers to be the eventual destination for the two, but would Irving and Durant want to swap one ‘super team’ for another?

The Super Team Failure In Brooklyn

After a relatively promising start with Durant and Irving, the Super Team

experiment in Brooklyn has been a failure.

The addition of James Harden never worked out and he was moved on to the 76ers as part of the Ben Simmons deal, with Simmons still to play for his new team.

The Nets then failed once again in the playoffs this year as they have done so for several of the past seasons and it was clear that for all the talented individuals on the roster, gelling that into a team that could win those key games was beyond them.

Now, if Durant and Irving were to move to the Lakers, they’d be in the same situation in L.A. just on a different coast and with the same problem – how do you fit three superstars into a winning team?

Assuming it would be Anthony Davis that the Lakers offer up as a makeweight in the deal (and that’s no means guaranteed) you’d have the prospect of Irving and Durant slotting alongside LeBron James.

We’ve already seen that fitting three superstars into a team, especially ones that earn huge money but who are also injured relatively frequently, may not work out.

Why switch coasts only to be in the same situation? To me, that move doesn’t make sense.

A Sunny Alternative?

In truth, I can’t see any team having the wherewithal to sign Irving and Durant

from the Nets.

The cost would be prohibitive and they’d have to trade away so much in terms of players, picks and cash to land the players that they would be mortgaging their future on two players who, while undeniably brilliant, still did not bring a Championship to Brooklyn.

As such, I think this year, Durant and Irving will go their separate ways.

I actually feel Irving will stay in Brooklyn and the Nets will try to use the package they get from Durant’s trade to find him another star to work with. Remembering that they still have Ben Simmons yet to play after his trade from the 76ers.

For me, the Suns are the right move for Durant. Phoenix can offer Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and numerous first round picks, plus Cam Johnson too if required, to the Nets in exchange.

Furthermore, Durant has great history with two key players for the Suns, winning an Olympic Gold alongside Chris Paul in 2012 and then also with Devin Booker in 2021.

Durant has worked alongside Monty Williams before with Oklahoma City and also for Team USA and their relationship is solid.

Yes, this would still be a superstar trio, but it is one that has the feel of already being moulded into an effective team, rather than a selection of expensive players being squeezed into a system.

The Suns are already a very strong unit, adding Durant would likely push them over the line as potential NBA Championship winners next season.

Player power is key in the NBA right now, and Durant has already made it clear that he wants to move to one of two teams.

The Heat, I don’t feel, can offer as good a package as the Suns and financially, they don’t quite match up to what would be required.

Durant wants a move to the Suns and he may well get his wish if you follow the logic through.
