Advertising Age lists its top viral videos for June. Hmm, interesting… LeBron James has two videos in the top ten. Carl’s Jr. occupies the 6th and 10th spots. A bra commercial is at #3. Mountain Dew is new at the #7 position.

Pulpconnection has been experiencing some serious technical issues recently. Hosting provider Dreamhost has provided some support to no avail. So if the site vanishes again, you know there are still problems.

Fortunately, I know a smart dude who’s been helping troubleshoot the root of the problem (thanks Ryan Kanno!). That and I’m doing the brute force method of maximizing server resources to see if that helps. Pulpconnection will be moving to a Dreamhost Private Server (PS) to see if having more dedicated resources can temporarily overcome the real technical issues.

The switch to Dreamhost PS won’t mean anything to viewers since it should be one of those “seamless” transitions.

What does your favorite social network say about you? There’s a study being published that makes correlations like LinkedIn users gravitate to soap operas and MySpacers tend not to exercise. If you use Twitter then the study indicates you’re more interested in the hunka chunka than users of other social networks.

They also especially like pop culture, with music, movies, TV and reading, ranking higher than average. And their buying habits mirror that. They’re more likely to buy books, movies, shoes and cosmetics online than the other groups.

How do they keep going? Coffee, apparently. Some 31% buy coffee online, far above the average 21% of other social networkers.

What a goldmine Disney’s tapped!

Here I had given up on the Alien Ninja, not seeing any significant progress on this project for some time. But who am I to understand the ways of a ninja, especially an alien one!

Yes, the Alien Ninja series is still alive according to this interview with movie producer Sheri Bryant.

In the meantime, I’m in post on our first web series called “Alien Ninja”. I wanted to get into the new media space and thought that a sci-fi comedy would be the best way to go. So we shot for a week in Hawaii and ended up with something very funny! Who can resist an Alien who happens to also be a Ninja crash landed on Oahu?

So despite the non-existent domains at alienninja.tv and alienninja.net (these both now default to GoDaddy.com ads), the Alien Ninja could still be making an online appearance in the foreseeable future. Then you could see some mad acting skills!

If you’re lucky, you might be able to get free Starbucks ice cream as a Facebook fan of the green mermaid logo.

As part of National Ice Cream month, Facebook users can install the Starbucks Share application and see if you can get one of the highly sought 20,000 free pints of ice cream. Supposedly 800 coupons are given out each hour (don’t try now since this hour’s 800 is already gone). From the wording of the promotion, it sounds like you pick a friend to gift the free ice cream to?? Promotion ends July 19. Good luck!

Awww man, my Amazon affiliate account is still shut down. Now that Governor Linda Lingle has vetoed bill HB1405, I hope Amazon reactivates its affiliate program for Hawaii soon.

I don’t have an Amazon Kindle but have heard good things about it. I’m old school with books and would rather have printed material for the most part. This Fast Company article about the Kindle is pretty interesting and worth a read.

The potential showdown with Apple’s iPod line is provoking and as a non-publisher, reading how traditional publishing works and how Amazon is changing the game is fascinating. Overall, a very well written article!

What would the Fourth of July holiday be without some wieners? Or how about one gigantic wiener? As in the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile that’s touring Hawaii for the next week.

Here are a few shots of the Wienermobile in Kailua.

The interior upholstery is yellow and red though not as shocking and irritating as the Windows hot dog stand theme. The interior roof is blue skies, but you can’t really stand up inside the Wienermobile. You gotta hunch over to get to the driver’s seat.

There was a small crowd visiting and everyone got a free Wiener Whistle. But sorry, no free wieners. You had to buy the hot dogs from an adjacent tent.

This is the first year we went to the Fourth of July Parade in Kailua. I didn’t know this event was a politically rally. The Governor and Lieutenant Govenor, Linda Lingle and Duke Aiona, were there along with many more politicians. Grand Marshal Wally “Famous” Amos had his leg in a cast.

Yes, the Ed Hardy brand has gone mainstream with their inclusion at Costco. Besides Ed Hardy clothes, you can find Ed Hardy windshield shades.

I’m tweaking things a little by adding StumbleUpon’s new su.pr service to Pulpconnection. Su.pr is yet another URL shortening service (still under development) but has the appeal of tapping into the popular StumbleUpon “stumbles.”

Su.pr also has its own Wordpress plugin which makes configuration much easier, and su.pr even supports shortening URLs using your own domain. For example, links I “shorten” can look like http://pulpconnection.net/asdf, though that’s not a very short URL. I’ll have to play with that a bit.

I also stopped my automatic Twitterfeed that publishes Pulpconnection updates to my secondary Twitter account of @pulpconnection. Instead, I’m leaving that duty to su.pr, but don’t worry, Pulpconnection updates are still Twitter fed to my primary Twitter account.

Let’s see what changes su.pr brings…

Hope I won’t need this service, but Apple Stores can now fix cracked iPhone screens right in the store. Your iPhone needs to be under warranty, or you need AppleCare to take advantage of this repair though.

I must say that the Ann Taylor location in Kahala Mall has some excellent reading material. Lots of classics!

Must be there are a few husbands and kids who hang out in the waiting area while wives and mommies shop for clothes.

The popular gas stations run by Costco have a new competitor in Hawaii with the opening of Sam’s Club’s own gas station. Though from the looks of things, I don’t know if this gas station will be around with business like this.

I don’t mind the non-existent lines though, makes gassing up so much faster.

Just wanted to say thanks to The Counter for giving Hawaii its own Twitter special last night. If you bought two burgers on “Twitter Tuesday” then you’d get either free sweet fries or a dessert.

To beat the crowds, we got there a tad bit early but got the okay that the special would still apply.   We went with the traditional Counter Burger, my custom creation, a peanut butter shake, and some free sweet fries.

So ono!

And by the time we were leaving, the mass of Hawaii tweeters were congregating for their Counter dinner. And oh yeah,  congratulations to Ryan Kanno for being voted the most addicted to The Counter. In his honor, I call my custom made Counter burger “If Kanno Were a Carnivore.”
