We don’t make pumps, we make pumps pump better, continuous improvement for a half century, that is why we are rechristened “The pulse doctors”.

PULSEGUARD has provided improved pump performance and longer life for pumping systems by guarding against pulsation for over 48 years. With increased protection against pulsing flow, pipe lines have smoother stable flowrates. Pumped stabilized velocity also gives more precise measurement with greater repeatability. The benefits of lower pressure disturbance amplitude help prevent pipe and hose shaking, lower the chances of repair downtime, and promote safety.

PULSATION DAMPENERS lower the installed cost of circuits by enabling component selections to be based on constant, instead of varying, behavior. A fixed rate of mass transfer can be matched with a best diameter for minimum delta P, where as a fluctuation characteristic needs selecting to be done on the basis of the maximum or peak figure. There in lie the economies of smaller tube, fitting, and valve sizes. In many cases flow stability provides a reduced energy usage, and this may be an additional saving of as much as 30 %. The istalled smaller cost, and over a drive horse power saving may in a short time often results in the benefits of smooth flow and stable pressure costing nothing, compared with an un-dampened pulsating, and the reduction of fatigue, plus greater control reliability becomes a literally free benefit for your system. There is no secret – installability is the key. Know how to connect dampeners, before selection.

Pulsation dampeners volumes and pressures should be selected according to end user needs for level of smoothness, This require knowledge of the proposed purpose for the volume and pressure of the damper. To calculate the volume you need to know the volume of the pulse to be dampned, and for the pressure you must at least be told the system pressure safety valve set pressure, Volume and pressure are the minimum designators for a pulsation dampner.

Pump Provider
Pulsation dampeners volumes pressures are selected according to cost to the pump purveyors with a lesser interest in performance, but none the less the volumes will always be large multiples of the displacement action of a pump piston or diaphragm and pressures must always exceed the relief valve set pressure that protects the system and pump. From the pump life view point most dampners should smooth pressure variations to a maximum of 10%, but most dampner volumes pressures required far exceed the need for an allowable 10% residual smoothness variation figure.

System Integrator
Pulsation dampeners volumes pressures should be selected according to system PSV / RV setting and required performance by system fabricators, but such details are often missed for the sake of ease of apparent installation. Pipe and tube guys are so familiar with volumes and pressure, they can overlook the importance of the relative position of those essential volumes and pressures with their system design. To facilitate correct choice for damper volumes for the pressures activities in piping placement should be specified to the system intigrator.

Engineering Documentation
Pulsation dampeners volumes pressures are the major information for engineering design documentation and records so that the basics of damping volumes and pressures are know for the future. Pressures and volumes explained in the documentary package save a good deal of confusion for anyone having to troubleshoot design after construction.

Selection of the right drawing may be a 20x difference to performance.
Pulsation dampeners drawings choice may determine whether the end user needs are addressed at all or not. The drawings of the pulsation dampeners show many different feature that make the damper ideal for specific applications. The drawings enable a user to choose between dampers for high viscosity and slurry uses. There are drawings for dampers with PTFE membranes as used in chemical and process flows, both high and low pressure. Drawings showing elastomer membranes installed on typical multiplex pumps, and many more. When the right damper drawing is picked the performance may be 20 times better than the wrong one. Drawings selection is a vital subject.

The “benefit” of low price is long passed when the plague of poor performance persists.

Pulsation dampeners drawings choice if made by pump purveyors are likely to result in lowest initial cost but soon the greatest expenditure. Selection of drawings for undersized dampeners and those with a single connection result in over deflection of the diaphragm and often three time more pulsation than is suitable for the application.

Installation on a “T” may look “easy” but often causes problems.
Pulsation dampeners drawings choice by a system constructed depending on ease of installation in any position in the piping. There is only one pipe location for best performance that should be considered in selecting the right drawing for a given job. Consult drawing publisher for advice. Pulsation dampeners drawings choice for after the event documentation is very important because the owner may have no information on how the drawing was selected. The drawings selection parameters should always be disclosed with the drawings that have been chosen.

A pulsation dampener is an item which is used to dampen pulsation and is a disperser of transients. Pulsation is damped by intercepting pressure pulses, and by preventing their creation. Pulsation prevention dampening is by compressibility of a volume, and interception and dissipation dispersal by a damper is by the directional alignment with the transient waves and “exploding” them where there is no reflection point close by. Pulsation dampeners are used in a piping system, generally adjacent to the source of the flow or pressure disturbance, which is typically a modulating element like a pump or a flow control valve.

Pulsation Dampeners are applied according to end user needs for the level of pressure and flow smoothness. The system user of the incorporated pulsation dampeners, has a reason for wanting smooth pressure or flow. Different levels of smoothing suit differing needs. For example to simply stop pipes shaking may need the Pulsation Dampeners to reduce pulsing to within 5% of the theoretical steady state condition. To maintain the accuracy of some types of instrument the customer may require the pulsation dampeners to ensure stability within 0.5% .Pulsation dampeners for this instrument protection may be ten times the size and seven times the cost of the dampeners to simple stop the pipes shaking. The necessity is to always know why someone wants dampening in the first place.

Pulsation dampeners are chosen by pump purveyors according to cost. When a pump guy is allowed to specify Pulsation Dampeners the choice of type and the selection of size may be prejudiced by the primary thought that the cost of the Pulsation Dampeners will detract from the cost competitive position of his pump. To ensure the most suitable pulsation dampeners are chosen for any given application it may be advisable to have the end use smoothness known by who ever is to make the choice.

Pulsation dampeners are applied by piping system fabricators depending on ease of installation. In order to enable the pulsation dampeners to be inserted at any position in the system fabrication , the fabricator may place a “T” piece where it suits his plumbing. This convenience tendency may result in the pulsation dampeners failing to provide the pulsation dampening performance. If nothing else always state that the Pulsation Dampeners are to be placed as close as possible to the suspected cause of the pulsation.

Pulsation dampeners are used in accordance with documentation and records, which are often compiled “after the event”. They are inclined to just comply with a contract term, and rarely to state the purpose for the pulsation dampeners nor the required performance. Bearing in mind that pulsation dampeners are most often an interface between a pump and a system all the system parameters and pump parameters should be compiled in the documentation by the engineer.

An application for positive displacement pumps is the stabilization of flow by a pulsation damper for spraying a liquid with a constant degree of atomization. As this is often for coating purposes, a flow through damener is used to facilitate ease of cleaning in place between the application of one color and the next. Experts in this field for more information are Beijing ZRX Coating Equipment Co. Ltd, Please see PULSEGUARD.CN.

In common with most pump plus dampner applications care is necessary in selecting the correct dampener with true compatibility of the diaphragm material and the liquid. This selection is usually controled by the solvent being used; xyklene, MIIBK, Acetone, etc. Housings and other components are normally stainless steel.
