If you love skincare, you already know that glycolic acid is that overachieving AHA girlie that keeps your face smooth, bright, and drama-free.

But here's the plot twist: she also works wonders on your scalp. Think of it like extending your skincare routine a little higher, because your scalp is skin and it deserves the same level of attention.

The scalp has to go through a lot: buildup, flakes, and clogged follicles. Using glycolic acid correctly can reset and refresh it, creating the perfect foundation for healthier hair growth.

What is Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic acid has become a world-renowned, widely accepted alpha-hydroxy acid, mainly for its ability to exfoliate the scalp. It is derived from sugar cane and is the smallest AHA, making it very effective at penetrating the skin's surface.

Glycolic acid dissolves the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, allowing them to be easily washed away. It does this through exfoliation, a process that helps to remove built-up dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reveal brighter, smoother skin.

Benefits of Using Glycolic Acid on the Scalp

Alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic acid are powerful active ingredients for exfoliating and removing dead scalp skin, as well as unclogging pores.

Products containing glycolic acid can be used on the scalp to help eliminate dead skin flakes and keep the scalp healthy. Applying glycolic acid to your hair will promote its growth by making it more nutritious, reducing breakage, and reducing scalp irritation.

1. Exfoliates dead skin cells and buildup

It works by breaking the bonds between dead skin cells; for this reason, glycolic acid is extremely effective at lifting flakes, old product residue, oils, sweat deposits, and hardened sebum from the scalp. This kind of chemical exfoliation is even less irritating than physical scrubs, keeping the surface smooth and clean without micro-damage.

READ ALSO: What Does Glycolic Acid Do? The Skincare Superstar Explained

2. Unclogs Hair Follicles

Buildup, dead skin, and trapped oils block hair follicles, leading to inflammation, bumps, itchiness, or impeded hair growth. It works by breaking down blockages and freeing the follicles to return to normal. A clean follicle environment can support stronger, healthier growth over time.

3. Reduces Scalp Flakes and Scaling

It helps reduce visible scales by speeding up cell turnover and preventing dead skin layers from building up in cases of flaking due to dryness, product overload, or compacted dead skin. This may make the scalp appear cleaner and reduce the “snowfall” on dark clothing.

4. Improves Moisture Balance

It is also a humectant, thereby drawing water into the skin. Used judiciously, it may provide scalp hydration, particularly under wigs, braids, and protective styles, where hot, sweaty conditions can be drying and irritating.

5. Boosting the Absorption of Scalp Products

This allows for better penetration of products, oils, serums, or treatments after removing the buildup and dead skin. Consequently, this can make growth serums, anti-itch solutions, and soothing scalp treatments more effective.

How to Use Glycolic Acid on the Scalp: A Step-by-Step Guide

Even though glycolic acid is a very powerful skin care product, you must use it the right way to maximise its effects on your scalp. To do that;

1. Choose the Correct Formula and Concentration

This is a more sensitive area of the body than your face, so it's particularly important to choose the right product and application method. Start by choosing a formula containing 5–7% glycolic acid if you are an acid novice.

Any higher than 10% and you're entering the caution zone; any higher than 20–30%, and it's really not recommended unless the formula has been specifically prepared for the scalp. The best formulas will be both alcohol and fragrance-free to reduce irritation.

First, make sure your scalp is either clean or slightly damp before application. A damp scalp improves absorption and reduces any chances of irritation. You can use glycolic acid as a pre-wash treatment or after a shower, rinsing your hair well, as it will work either way, so long as the scalp is accessible.

2. Apply directly to the Scalp, not the Hair

Apply the product directly onto your scalp with a nozzle bottle, dropper, cotton pad, or fingertips. Target the areas where you get buildup, flakes, or irritation, but avoid the hair shafts themselves since glycolic acid could dry them out.

Let it sit, then rinse thoroughly with shampoo. Allow the glycolic acid to sit on your scalp for 5-10 minutes after its application. This is ample time for it to dissolve the buildup and properly exfoliate your dead skin cells. Some tingling is ordinary; however, intense burning is not.

Rinse immediately if that sensation becomes uncomfortable. Toward the end of that wait time, thoroughly rinse, using a mild shampoo to remove both the acid and the loosened debris. This prevents any irritation, as residue can build up.

3. Rehydrate the Scalp After Treatment

After shampooing, hydrate the scalp to return it to a comfortable, moisturised state. Use only lightweight, non-comedogenic options such as aloe vera, hyaluronic acid serums, panthenol-based products, or light oils like jojoba.

Rehydration counterbalances the exfoliation and prevents dryness or tightness of any type. As for frequency, oily scalps or heavy product users can use this tool once to twice a week, while sensitive or dry scalps should use it once every 10-14 days.

When wearing protective styles, glycolic acid should be used once before installation and once after take-down to ensure a proper reset and avoid buildup.

READ ALSO: The Best Scalp Treatments for Dandruff, Dryness, and Hair Growth

Safety Tips and Precautions

Avoid if you have open wounds or active scalp conditions; acid can further aggravate cuts.

Apply a small amount behind the ear or to a small area of the scalp and wait 24 hours to see sensitivity or any irritation before applying it fully.

If you have recently relaxed, dyed, or chemically processed your hair, the scalp can be more sensitive. Wait 7-10 days before applying glycolic acid to minimize irritation or burning.

Do not combine glycolic acid with salicylic acid, retinoids, peels, or physical scalp scrubs in one routine. This is to avoid over-exfoliation and barrier damage.

Before an actor’s first line of dialogue, before the soundtrack builds, before the plot finds its rhythm, your brain has already cast them in the only version of themselves you’ve ever been allowed to know.

This isn’t by chance. This is typecasting, entertainment’s most reliable, infuriating, iconic storytelling device.

It limits actors, sure, but it also immortalises them. It creates familiarity, cultural shorthand, and shared language across generations.

And whether in Nollywood or Hollywood, some actors have been unofficially appointed the kings and queens of very specific roles.

So let’s explore the globally typecast actors who have shaped the stories we love, the stereotypes we mock, and the roles we secretly still want them to play.

READ ALSO: Allison Precious Emmanuel: ‘The Boy Who Gave’ a Debut Worth Talking About

Nollywood’s Protective Mothers & Aunties

Sola Sobowale

If Nollywood had a national emblem for “strong mother with unstoppable energy,” it would be Sola Sobowale. Long before King of Boys crowned her the nation’s cinematic monarch,

Sola had built a portfolio of fiery, emotional, larger-than-life women who scream, pray, fight, threaten, hug, slap, and protect with equal intensity.

In The Wedding Party, she plays Tinuade Coker, dramatic, controlling, fashion-forward, the type of mother-in-law whose love is as overwhelming as her volume.

In King of Boys, she becomes Eniola Salami, a character so layered, ruthless yet maternal, violent yet vulnerable that the franchise became her career-defining masterpiece.

ALSO READ: Patience Ozokwor comments on recent comparison with Sola Sobowale

Patience Ozokwor

Patience Ozokwor is not just typecast. She is institutionally typecast. She is the definitive wicked mother-in-law, wicked stepmother, wicked auntie, wicked neighbour, wicked with impeccable craft.

Her roles in Mother-in-Law, Authority, and Old School cemented her as the face of domestic oppression in early Nollywood. You saw her on a VHS cover, and you already knew somebody’s daughter-in-law was going to suffer.

Patience’s villainy is so good because she acts it with emotional truth. The tears, the bitterness, the envy, all come from a place of deep understanding of the character's psyche.

Today, filmmakers occasionally try to cast her against type, but, honestly… we still crave her previous roles.

READ ALSO: Patience Ozokwor comments on recent comparison with Sola Sobowale

The Leading Man

1. And once it’s broken, it’s hard to rebuild.

But here's the hopeful part: it can be repaired. It takes real effort, a lot of patience, and a firm commitment from both parties involved.

In this article, we're going to explore some effective ways to rebuild trust, share some tips for communicating better, and explain why being consistent and open is so crucial in building trust in your relationship.

What is Trust in a Relationship?

Trust is that deep sense of confidence you feel in someone, knowing they'll stick by you and love you no matter what. When you trust someone, it means you can depend on them completely and feel completely at ease sharing your innermost thoughts with them because you know you're safe with them.

It's truly the cornerstone of any relationship; without it, the whole thing feels unsteady and uncertain. Here are a few ways you can rebuild trust in your relationship.

Read Also: Everyone Wants Closure, But What Does It Actually Mean in a Relationship?

What Causes Trust to Break in a Relationship?

Trust doesn’t usually shatter overnight; it’s caused when actions, patterns, or behaviours make one partner feel unsafe, unheard, or deceived. Understanding the root causes helps you identify what went wrong and what needs to change.

1. Lies and Withholding Information

Even “small” lies chip away at safety, like saying you’re at home when you’re actually out with someone your partner doesn’t know.

2. Broken Promises

Constantly failing to keep your word creates insecurity. If you keep promising to change a behaviour but never follow through.

3. Emotional or Physical Infidelity

Sharing intimacy, emotional or sexual, with someone outside the relationship damages the core bond.

4. Lack of Transparency

Being secretive about finances, relevant activities, or daily routines makes the other person feel shut out.

5. Disrespectful Behaviour

Mocking, dismissing feelings, or talking down to your partner can make them feel unsafe and unseen.

What Not to Do When Trying to Rebuild Trust

Rebuilding trust is delicate, and the wrong approach can slow down healing or push your partner further away. It’s important to understand that rebuilding isn’t just about big gestures, it’s about consistent, intentional behaviour that shows reliability and honesty over time.

Don’t rush your partner’s healing or pressure them to “move on.”

Don’t become defensive; it shuts down honest communication.

Don’t repeat the behaviour you’re trying to fix; it resets progress.

Don’t hide information thinking it will “protect” them.

Don’t expect things to return to normal quickly; rebuilding takes consistent effort.

How to Rebuild Trust in a Relationship: Step-by-Step Guide

1. Understand What Caused the Breach of Trust

Before attempting to repair the breach, one must understand the underlying cause. Was it an affair? Was it dishonesty? Was it a problem with communication? The cause determines the approach needed. The first step toward healing is acknowledging that there is an issue and how each party has been affected.

Both parties need to reflect on where they went wrong or how they might have contributed to the problem. No blame games should happen here; rather, the aim is to understand what went wrong.

After reflection, whoever caused the damage should take responsibility. If you were the one who broke the trust, then it is only proper that you own up to your actions. When doing this, your apology must be sincere.

READ ALSO: How To Spot A Red Flag In A Relationship (Before It’s Too Late)

2. Communicate Openly and Honestly

The foundation of rebuilding trust has to be honest communication; if not, all healing attempts will fall short. This means that both partners should be forthcoming with feelings, concerns, and expectations.

Create a safe space for conversation. Make sure you both feel heard and understood; neither of you should yell or interrupt. Focus on listening, not just speaking.

Also, define what trust will look like in your relationship going forward. The setting of clear boundaries and open discussions can help manage expectations and avoid further misunderstandings.

3. Express Sincere Repentance and Regret

Rebuilding trust requires more than just words; it requires actions. Your partner will need to see that you are truly sorry for your actions and that you will work hard to change.

To achieve this, demonstrate empathy and remorse by acknowledging the hurt caused and making amends. Be patient. Do not rush your partner to forgive you. Keep in mind that healing does take time. Respect their emotional process and let them grieve the betrayal.

Trust is rebuilt over time through consistent behaviour. If you've committed to being more honest, show that by following through on promises.

4. Be Transparent and Vulnerable

Being transparent in one's actions and being vulnerable with one's feelings are two powerful ways to rebuild trust. When your partner sees that you're open and honest, they're more likely to feel safe again.

Be open; share your day, your thoughts, and your feelings. This openness is what helps rebuild dependability again.

Also, let your partner see the person behind the mistakes. Sharing your fears, insecurities, and challenges is one of the surest ways to be emotionally intimate, an integral part of the rebuilding process.

READ ALSO: What’s the Difference Between Genuine Attraction and Trauma Bonding?

5. Be Consistent Over Time

6. Rebuild Emotional Intimacy

7. Seek Professional Help if Needed

Beef tallow went from an old-fashioned ingredient to a trending skincare staple, especially among natural beauty and "ancestral wellness" communities. Nowadays, everyone seems to talk about tallow; why it works, how it compares to conventional moisturisers, and whether it's truly worth the hype.

But what is beef tallow, exactly? And more importantly, does it actually do anything for the skin?

This guide covers the science, the benefits, possible drawbacks, and everything you may want to know before adding beef tallow to your skincare.

What Exactly Is Beef Tallow?

Tallow is beef fat that is usually rendered from suet, which is the hard fat found around cow kidneys and loins. When slowly heated, this fat melts down and, after being strained, it cools down to form a creamy substance.

Historically, tallow wasn't only a cooking fat. It was used in soap-making, candle manufacturing, traditional moisturisers, healing balms and salves

Such recent interest in tallow skincare can be attributed to two trends: a return to using natural ingredients and a growth in resistance against beauty products that are heavily processed.

Benefits of Beef Tallow for Your Skin

Beef tallow is mainly praised because of its fatty acid profile, which is surprisingly like the oils produced by human skin, or sebum. Because of this, it is highly compatible, nourishing, and accepted with ease by the skin.

Here's what makes it effective:

1. Rich in Bioavailable Fatty Acids

Tallow contains oleic acid, a moisturising agent and supporter of the skin barrier; stearic acid supports skin structure and softness, while palmitic acid guards the skin barrier. Conjugated linoleic acid, more commonly known as CLA, is an essential fatty acid with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It also contains Vitamins A, D, E, and K, all present naturally in animal fat.

These nutrients help fortify weak skin barriers, soothe dryness, and support healing.

2. Mimics Natural Sebum

Because of its similarities in makeup to the skin's oils, beef tallow is easily absorbed. This then makes it particularly great for dry skin, dehydrated skin, damaged moisture barriers, and sensitive skin.

It moisturises without the sharp, greasy finish that many plant oils can leave behind.

3. Supports the skin barrier repair

A compromised barrier results in redness, irritation, flaking, and breakouts. The combination of fatty acids in tallow helps to seal in moisture, reduce inflammation, and help the skin rebuild itself.

4. Intrinsically Anti-Inflammatory

Beef tallow is a source of CLA, which has been researched for anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. This would make tallow appealing for people who suffer from chronic irritation, flare-ups in eczema, and other inflammatory skin problems.

5. It's Free From Harsh Additives

Many commercial moisturisers contain preservatives, fragrance, emulsifiers, and silicones. Most tallow balms are made with just tallow and perhaps a small amount of essential oils, which appeals to a niche market of people trying to avoid synthetics.

READ ALSO: What Does Glycolic Acid Do? The Skincare Superstar Explained

Does Beef Tallow Really Work for Skin?

Yes, beef tallow can work very effectively for some skin types and conditions, depending, of course, on proper application.

But like any ingredient in skin care, it's not universal. How well it works depends on your skin needs, environment, and routine.

Here's a breakdown:

Who Benefits Most From Beef Tallow?

Dry or mature skin

Sensitive or reactive skin

Damaged moisture barrier

People in dry climates

Eczema-prone skin

These skin types often require deeper nourishment, barrier support, and long-lasting moisturization, all of which tallow provides.

Who Won't Beef Tallow Work For?

While some people with acne still see improvements due to its anti-inflammatory properties, others may find tallow too heavy.

The high concentration of LCFAs therein has a tendency to clog pores in individuals already prone to congestion.

Is Beef Tallow Safe for the Face?

Yes, but with considerations:

Use high-quality, grass-fed tallow

Avoid products containing any unnecessary fragrances or essential oils if you have sensitive skin.

Patch-test first, especially if you're acne-prone.

Start small; use it only at night for the first week.

When properly sourced and formulated, tallow is generally safe for facial use.

How to Use Beef Tallow in Your Skincare Routine

Use a pea-sized amount; melt between your fingers before application.

Take care to apply a slightly thicker layer when the skin feels extra dry or irritated.

Great for eczema patches, cracked skin, or red, irritated areas.

If tallow feels too greasy, combine it with your regular cream to achieve a lighter finish.

Possible Side Effects

While generally safe, a person may have:

Light breakouts if prone to acne.

Sensitivity to added essential oils.

Congestion if applied too much.

Most problems arise from using too much of it. Tallow is dense and potent, so less is more.

How to Choose High-Quality Beef Tallow Products. Use one that is from grass-fed, pasture-raised cows, purified by slow rendering, free from artificial fragrances, stored in glass jars, and one that is unbleached and unhydrogenated.

Higher-quality tallow retains nutrients and can be less irritating to skin.

READ ALSO: It's Getting Warmer, Your Skincare Routine Needs a Weather Update

Does It Smell?

Hip-Hop vs Rap: What Is Really the Difference?

The world of music is often confusing. Two terms, hip-hop vs rap, are constantly used. People use them interchangeably. But they are not the same thing. This is the simple truth: hip-hop vs rap is the difference between a whole culture and a specific musical style. Every fan must know this. It is a critical distinction in the story of modern music. Understanding hip-hop vs rap is key to understanding a global phenomenon.

Origin Stories: A Tale of Two Concepts

The roots of hip-hop vs rap begin in the 1970s. The place was the Bronx, New York City. This was a time of hardship. Young Black and Latino people sought expression. They wanted a voice. From block parties, a vibrant culture emerged. This was hip-hop. It was not just music. Hip-hop became a way of life. The legendary DJ Kool Herc is the founding father.

He extended the percussive "breaks" of funk and soul records. He used two turntables. This extended beat created a platform. People danced. They were called B-Boys and B-Girls. This was the birth of a movement. This movement is hip-hop. The difference between hip-hop vs rap begins right here.

The Four Pillars: Defining Hip-Hop Culture

Hip-hop is a complete cultural movement. It has four distinct, foundational elements. These elements make up hip-hop as a total lifestyle.

They include:

MCing

DJing

Breakdancing

Graffiti Art

MCing is what people call rap. The MC, or Master of Ceremonies, speaks rhythmically over the beats. This is one part of the hip-hop vs rap puzzle.

The second is DJing. The DJ creates the music. They use turntables and mixers. This is a core creative element of hip-hop. The third is breakdancing (B-Boying/B-Girling). This is the energetic street dance. It involves floor work and freezes. The fourth pillar is graffiti art. This is the visual expression of hip-hop culture. These four elements define the breadth of hip-hop.

The Art of Rapping: What Defines Rap Music?

Now, let us discuss rap. Rap is simply the musical component. It is the rhythmic delivery of rhyming speech. This makes rap a vocal technique. It is the 'doing' part of the famous quote. KRS-One, a hip-hop pioneer, said it best. He said as per Washington Post, "Rap is something you do. Hip-hop is something you live." This quote perfectly highlights hip-hop vs rap.

Rap is the sound. It is the complex lyricism. It is the storytelling over the beat. Rappers like Nas, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar are masters of rap. Their rap music is art.

However, their music is an output of the larger hip-hop culture. Rap is the voice of hip-hop. It is the most commercially successful part. But it is still just a part. Hip-hop vs rap means the culture is bigger than the music.

The Art of Rapping: The Vocal Craft

Rap is the musical technique. It is the rhythmic, rhyming delivery of speech. This makes rap a vocal art form. Rap is the lyrical component of the larger hip-hop framework.

Global American Heavyweights: Masters of Rap

The greatest names in music are primarily celebrated for their rap skill, yet they are all products of hip-hop.

2Pac's and The Notorious B.I.G.'s complex storytelling and emotional depth are benchmarks of lyrical rap mastery. Their rap styles defined the East vs. West Coast rivalry, a major moment in hip-hop culture.

Kendrick Lamar is lauded for his poetic meter and conceptual albums, pushing the technical limits of modern rap. His complex rap artistry is the high-water mark for the MCing pillar of hip-hop.

DMX brought a raw, guttural, and spiritual intensity to his rap delivery. His unique rap style dominated the late 90s, defining a hardcore element of hip-hop.

These artists are universally respected for their mastery of rap.

The Commercial Evolution: From Rap Artist to Hip-Hop Mogul

The most significant distinction in hip-hop vs rap is seen in commerce and influence.

Many of the biggest stars used their rap career as a springboard for cultural empire building. This entrepreneurial spirit is a core aspect of modern hip-hop.

Jay-Z is the prime example. He is a phenomenal rap lyricist. He took his rap success and built Roc Nation, a massive sports and entertainment firm. This makes him a hip-hop mogul. His influence goes far beyond his music (the rap). He elevated the business pillar of hip-hop.

Drake is the "commercial king". His signature melodic rap style blends singing and rapping. This has redefined mainstream rap. He is a dominant cultural figure through his OVO brand and constant chart presence. While critics debate his lyrical rap skill compared to peers, his commercial impact on hip-hop culture is undeniable.

J. Cole is celebrated for being a pure rap technician and producer. He represents the ideal of the focused MC who also controls the music's production (DJing/Production). His commitment to his craft fuels his status as a key voice in hip-hop culture.

Nigerian Acts: The Fusion of Rap and Culture

Nigeria's music scene has deeply embraced hip-hop culture. Local artists show how rap is adapted. They blend Nigerian languages, sounds, and rhythms. This vibrant evolution is often called Afro hip-hop. It perfectly demonstrates the global adaptability of hip-hop vs rap. Olamide and Phyno are giants of indigenous rap. They use Yoruba and Igbo respectively. Their success shows the flexibility of rap as a vehicle for local cultural expression, which in turn strengthens global hip-hop.

The Lyrical Pioneers: Defining Pure Rap

Before the commercial dominance of today, a generation of artists focused intensely on the technical skill of rap.

They championed the MCing pillar of hip-hop.

Mode Nine (The African Lyrical Messiah): Mode Nine is the undisputed champion of pure, intricate rap lyricism in Nigeria. He is often called a "rapper's rapper." His work prioritised complex wordplay, multi-syllabic rhymes, and deep content. This focus on technical brilliance makes his work exceptional rap music. He fought fiercely to keep the lyrical core of hip-hop alive during times when commercial appeal was taking over.

eLDee (The Trybe): While later becoming a successful producer and entrepreneur, eLDee was a pioneer who used his rap skills to bridge the gap between Nigerian and Western sounds. As part of The Trybe, he helped create a cultural blueprint for Nigerian hip-hop.

While Afrobeats artists dominate global charts and sell out arenas, there are quiet architects behind the scenes making those moments possible. One of the most important names in that engine room is Abi Babalola, founder of Hera Touring and one of the key forces behind some of Afrobeats’ biggest live productions.

Abi’s journey into the culture started early. Growing up around music, she was exposed to the industry through her uncle JJC, whose work helped shape the careers of artists like D’banj and Don Jazzy. That early studio environment planted the foundation for a career rooted in storytelling, production, and live experience.

Before touring, Abi worked extensively in music video production, collaborating with her brother, renowned director Moe Musa. She produced hundreds of visuals, learning first-hand how to translate sound into powerful visual moments. But it was live touring where her impact would grow even bigger.

From grassroots shows with platforms like Coco Bar to founding her own company, Hera Touring, Abi gradually built a reputation for precision, creativity, and resilience. Today, she has led productions for global Afrobeats superstars including Burna Boy and Asake, and most recently handled production for Olamide’s sold-out OVO Wembley Arena show in London.

What makes Abi’s story even more significant is her position as a woman operating in a space traditionally dominated by men. From intentionally refusing to be sexualised early in her career earning the nickname “Aunty Abi” to leading crews of over 150 people, she has consistently chosen respect, professionalism, and authority over compromise.

Her story was recently spotlighted in Swift Conversations, the Afrobeats-focused podcast series by Martell, hosted by Martell Cultural Ambassador - Sheniece Charway. In the episode, Abi offers a rare glimpse into the realities of live production: last-minute creative demands, high-pressure timelines, financial risks, and the logistics behind stadium-scale productions.

But beyond logistics, her story is about infrastructure building systems, teams, and standards that allow Afrobeats to grow sustainably on the global stage. As Afrobeats continues to evolve as a global movement, figures like Abi Babalola are proving that the future of the culture is not only defined by those on the stage, but also by those who build the stage itself.

Watch the full episode here

#FeaturedPost

Mide, referencing the statement, challenged the words of Ms DSF earlier, saying, "In a previous interview, you said that men lead with sexual advances."

Already visibly irritated, Ms DSF vehemently denied having said such a thing, insisting that Mide was misquoting her and demanding proof. "Pull it up and roll it right now," she fumed, ready to face up to the accusations.

Tension mounted as Mide refused to back down, claiming it should be easy to locate the clip, which further inflamed Ms DSF.

READ ALSO: Ayra Starr Was Violated Online And She’s Not the Only One

As the argument about what Ms DSF had said continued, it became more and more personal. The two women began to trade jabs: Ms DSF accused Mide of twisting her words, while Mide believed that Ms DSF was looking for drama because it would make her the center of attention. The argument escalated, with each woman defending her corner.

The situation reached a boiling point when a clearly frustrated Ms DSF accused Mide of being unprofessional, suggesting, "As a journalist, you're so mad, Aggie," and further saying that Mide's approach was to create a viral moment, not an honest conversation.

On Instagram, Nigerians' comments seemed to support Ms DSF, accusing Mide of coming at her with bad energy

READ ALSO: Ever Wondered Who Puts Together Imisi’s Chic Looks? It’s Abanitunrase

At one time, Mide attempted to diffuse the situation with an apology: "I apologise if I've come across defensive. I apologise if I've upset you. That was not my intention. Honestly, I really am. I don't want you to feel like I came here to draw you out. How gassed was I about this interview? I was like, I love her. I've been following you for years. Why would I want to upset you?”

The interview, despite heated moments, concluded on a conciliatory note, as Ms DSF said she did not come here to stir up controversy and that she wanted to talk constructively.

They settled on letting sleeping dogs lie, but, as it would appear, there was still some residual uneasiness between them.

This incident highlighted the complexities of media interviews, where one's statements can be taken out of context and emotions run high amid clashing personalities. Though both made amends at various times, it was a reminder of how easy it is for a casual conversation to degenerate into a full-blown confrontation once egos and miscommunication enter the picture.

It shifts the narrative from mere giveaway to major industry acclaim. It also confirms Shallipopi’s serious productivity.

The timing could not be more perfect. Shallipopi is gearing up for a major new album release, and this benevolent holiday stunt has become the unexpected spark powering his season’s publicity.

Third Album Countdown: All Eyes on AURACLES

Behind the festive giveaway lies a crucial career moment. His sophomore project, Shakespopi (2024), also dominated streaming platforms, securing multiple number-one records despite mixed critical reception. Industry watchers see AURACLES as the defining chapter, the album that could determine his longevity.

Shallipopi has already hinted at global ambition. A recent collaboration with Gunna suggests he’s pushing beyond the Nigerian sphere. Meanwhile, his latest giveaway keeps him grounded in his grassroots audience. It’s a strategic balance of big features for international reach, and real-time generosity for local loyalty.

Tems has a way of telling stories through her music that feels both unique to her and universal. You can hear a personal moment in her lyrics, a glance at her thoughts and her emotions, but it’ll be written in a way that makes you feel like it could be about you, too. Her songwriting avoids overexplaining, striking a balance between clever lines and emotional honesty.

On her new EP, that skill is on full display, giving fans lines that are catchy and carry moods, attitudes, and feelings perfect for Instagram captions. Here, Tems is setting boundaries and refusing to be held down by anyone’s opinions, which makes it a vibe when you think about it. For Instagram, this would fit a solo selfie, a travel mini-vlog, or a post showing off a moment of personal growth.

2. “You wanna see me? Come and find me”

I love how this lyric embodies playful self-assuredness. Tems isn’t chasing; she’s offering an invitation to someone willing to show commitment. It’s the perfect caption for edgy mirror selfies; posts that radiate this “come get me if you can” energy. A picture of you under the city lights with a calm smile would also pair perfectly and give off that teasing, confident vibe that Tems does effortlessly.

3. “But he love it when I call him ‘big daddy’”

This line is cheeky and flirty for the girlies in the house. Tems is pointing out someone who wasn’t present when needed but now wants attention, making it playful and slightly audacious.

On Instagram, it works for partner posts, couples’ content, or even single shots that are just trying to be fun and flirty. It’s for moments where you want your followers to feel the playful energy without needing a full explanation.

4. “If you're gonna love me, love me in the right way”

This one comes from her song ‘Lagos Love’. Here, Tems is asking for intention and sincerity, setting a standard without being harsh. It’ll be great for reflective selfies, honest moments, or any post conveying self-respect in relationships.

Tems - Lagos Love (Visualizer)

5. “I lo-lo-love you, I lo-lo-love me”

Also from ‘Lagos Love’, this line walks the balance between affection for someone and self-love. It’s ideal for posts celebrating both personal happiness and meaningful connections.

It also works because it promotes devotion without losing sight of the self, which is something Tems consistently conveys in her music.

6. “I'm not what you need”

From the song ‘What You Need’, Tems delivers unapologetic honesty. She acknowledges her past struggles and asserts boundaries, giving this lyric an independent energy.

On Instagram, it’ll go well with moody photos, pictures of you staring away from the camera, self-reflection poses, and moments where you’re standing in your own light.

You’re chatting with her every day. She replies to your texts fast, calls you “dear”, and smiles a little too long. The vibes are sweet, the banter is flowing, and somehow you’ve started overthinking every emoji she sends. Is she just friendly… or is there something more?

You are uncertain about what to think, but you’re not ready to embarrass your lineage by making assumptions. After all, you read somewhere that Nigerian men confuse kindness for attraction because they’ve never experienced kindness before.

You don’t want to catch feelings blindly or misread vibes. One wrong move and you’re the clown of the group chat.

So how do you actually tell when a woman likes you without embarrassing yourself or misreading a polite smile?

Read Next: The 6 Things Women Actually Notice First About Men

10 Clear Signs She Likes You

1. Her Body Language: The First Clues You Shouldn’t Ignore

Before words, the body speaks. When a woman likes you, she often shows it without meaning to:

She positions herself close, even in group settings.

Her eye contact lingers slightly longer than normal.

She mirrors your movements. She leans in and relaxes when you do.

She finds small excuses to touch you: “There’s something on your shirt”, “Your beard is rough”, and playful taps.

Even shy women give non-verbal signs of attraction; they are not loud or aggressive, just soft clues.

2. How She Texts You

Forget strict rules like “She must reply fast.” People are busy. But when she likes you, her effort shows:

She responds thoughtfully, not lazily.

She double-texts without shame when she’s excited.

She adds emojis that feel warm, playful, or personal.

She doesn’t just reply; she starts conversations, stimulates your mind and engages you.

A woman who likes you won’t chat like she’s just ticking a social box. She doesn’t vanish for two days only to return with a dry “sorry, I slept.”

She asks how your day is and waits for the answer. When you ask her in return, she breaks it down for you in a way that includes you. She remembers your job interviews, work stress, favourite snacks, and football games.

Read Next: How to Set Healthy Boundaries Without Feeling Guilty

3. The Effort Test: When She Actually Makes Time for You

In Nigeria, making time is love currency. Between work, hustles, church, school, Lagos traffic, and family drama, time is scarce.

So if she reorganises her schedule just to hang out, checks up on you, or sends little reminders like “Have you eaten?”, take note.

Maybe she calls after work even when she’s tired. She waits to hear you got home safe. She’s willing to reschedule things just to see you.

When someone wants you, they don’t only say it; they make room for you. This is one of the strongest signs she genuinely likes you.

4. Pay Attention to Her Questions: Interest Hides in Curiosity

When a Nigerian woman starts investigating you, that’s premium energy. Not in an investigative journalist type of way, but in a way that shows she cares and wants to know your values, personality, and intentions. She’d ask questions like:

“What do you like to eat? ”

“How’s your family? ”

“Where do you see yourself in a few years? ”

“Are you talking to someone? ”

Read Next: Everyone Wants Closure, But What Does It Actually Mean in a Relationship?

5. Her Friends Suddenly Know Too Much

If her friends greet you with inside laughter, warmth, or mild teasing, she has talked about you. If they ask questions like, “So you’re the guy?”, congratulations, you’ve made the shortlist.

When women like someone, they don’t always tell the man first, but their friends and family almost always know the gist. Their excitement around you is often the loudest subtle hint.

6. She Shares Personal Things, But Not Trauma Dumping

A woman doesn’t share sensitive stories with someone she doesn’t trust. If she feels safe enough to talk about her fears, family, ambitions, childhood, heartbreak, or dreams, she’s letting you into her world.

If she shares hardships she’s faced, she’s not trauma bonding, “offloading” her problems or using you as a therapist. She’s building emotional closeness. That’s when you stop being “just vibes” and start becoming someone she can imagine in her life.

Read Next: So… What Exactly Is an Open Relationship? Let’s Break It Down

7. She Subtly Tests How You Feel About Her

Attraction makes us curious. She might casually ask questions like:

“So what kind of women are you into? ”

“Your ex, what was she like? ”

“Do you see me as your friend or…? ”

Would you date your friend?

She’s not interrogating you. She wants a hint of your intentions before she reveals hers.

Read Next: Split the bill or not? 10 Nigerians share their honest take on 50/50 dating

8. She Tries to Look Good Around You (In Her Own Way)

This isn’t always dramatic makeup or a new wig. Sometimes it’s subtle:

It could be the perfume she hopes you’ll notice.

Asking what hairstyle you like.

Dressing with a little more thought on days she knows she’ll see you.

This is where the intel she’s gathered with no. 7 comes into play. Women express attraction through aesthetic intention.

9. She Wants You to Notice Her, But Won’t Say It

On November 22, 2025, Nigerian singer-songwriter, talent manager, composer, and music executive Abisagboola Oluseun John AKA Bankulli hosted Nigerian music industry stakeholders at Ebonylife Cinema for a private screening of his documentary, Chronicles of Afrobeats.

I was privileged to be among those who got the first look at the documentary, and the exciting experience compels me to share its importance.

Over the last decade, there have been increased calls for the story of Afrobeats to be told from the West African perspective.

Karaoke has a way of breaking tension, boosting confidence, and turning a regular night into a mini, fun concert. A good karaoke song is not always one people recognise; it is also one they can quickly learn and sing along to. Some songs bring nostalgia, some are upbeat, and some are slow-burners that ignite the room once the chorus drops.

This ranking lines up songs that work in karaoke bars, house parties, office hangouts, and small get-togethers. Each track earns its place because it has sing-along appeal, strong hooks, massive replay value, and enough familiarity to get the crowd involved.

10. Mario: ‘Let Me Love You’

Released in 2004, this R&B classic became Mario’s biggest hit and a household staple. It works as a karaoke pick because the lyrics are simple, emotional, and easy to remember. The chorus is the song's lifeline, and most people know it even if they have not heard the whole track in years.

You can sing it softly or go full vocal performance without feeling out of place. Many karaoke songs fall apart when the verse drags on, but this one maintains a steady flow that keeps the room focused.

9. 50 Cent: ‘In Da Club’

A global hit in 2003 and the song that introduced 50 Cent to the world at scale, “In Da Club” is perfect for karaoke for one reason: the second the beat drops, the room reacts. The hook is short, iconic, and memorable, which is what you need at karaoke.

People join in on the first “Go shawty, it’s your birthday.” You don’t need a vocal range to deliver it, and rap songs often break the tension in the room because they tap into rhythm instead of pitch.

8. Asa: ‘Jailer’

A Nigerian karaoke night is incomplete without a song like this. Released in 2007, ‘Jailer’ is one of Asa’s most recognisable tracks. The storytelling is strong, the message is sharp, and the melody sits comfortably in most vocal ranges.

People can sing this without worrying about high climbs or tricky note jumps. The call-and-response feel also brings others in, especially during the ‘Jailer’ refrain. It also evokes nostalgia for many Nigerians who heard it throughout the late 2000s.

7. Toto: ‘Africa’

This 1982 hit is one of the most-streamed songs of its era and continues to draw new fans through TV, memes, TikTok edits, and music placements. ‘Africa’ works for karaoke because the chorus is huge and instantly recognisable.

The rhythm also encourages crowd participation. It is the type of karaoke song that feels rewarding to sing, even if you only half remember the verses.

6. Davido: ‘Fall’

Released in 2017, ‘Fall’ became one of Davido’s biggest global hits and remains one of the most Shazamed Afrobeats songs to date. For karaoke, the song does not demand vocal gymnastics.

It has a simple melody built on repetition. The hook is extremely catchy, and the ad-libs are easy to improvise. Many karaoke tracks struggle when the instrumental space is too empty, but ‘Fall’ has a beat strong enough to keep the room engaged when the singer takes a breath.

5. Alphaville: ‘Forever Young’

The 1984 synth-pop classic has appeared in films, football stadiums, and countless coming-of-age playlists. ‘Forever Young’ is a perfect pick for karaoke because it taps into nostalgia and emotional memory.

People of different generations know it, and the melody does not require a wide vocal range. The chorus is also one of the easiest in pop music to carry with a group.

4. Korede Bello ft.

Olivia Yacé, the Ivorian beauty queen who made history at Miss Universe 2025 by finishing fourth runner-up and winning the continental title for Africa and Oceania, has resigned from her title.

Yacé, who was recognised in the pageant as one of the most vigorous and determined women, explained that her decision stems from her desire to be true to herself and her guiding principles in life and in her career.

In a statement posted on her official Facebook page on Monday, she explained her decision to step away from the Miss Universe Africa role: a need to preserve her integrity and remain aligned with her core values.

Her departure comes after what has been called one of the most dramatic Miss Universe finales in the history of the pageant. Public disputes, allegations of rigged judging, and a viral confrontation involving the eventual winner, Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch, overshadowed the competition in Bangkok.

Why Olivia Yacé Resigned

In her post, Olivia Yacé noted the setbacks she faced and the lessons she learned. Olivia proudly spoke of representing Côte d'Ivoire on the Miss Universe stage and how the experience tested her strength, resilience, and firm determination to succeed.

Despite her successes, Yacé indicated that the Miss Universe Africa role required her to take a position that doesn’t align with her values.

“To continue, I must remain true to my pillars: respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity,” she wrote.

Yacé underlined that such values are not only part of her public persona but also part of the very foundation of her life's work.

She explained that remaining in the position would no longer allow her to fully express her mission of inspiring younger generations toward personal and social change.

Though this was the end of one chapter, Yacé is undeterred in her quest to use herself as a role model for young girls, particularly those from Black, African, Caribbean, and Afro-descendant backgrounds.

READ ALSO: Miss Universe 2025: The African Queens Making Their Mark on the Global Stage

Yacé's Vision for the Future

“My mission has always been to inspire younger generations. As I stated onstage, I want to be a role model for young girls, encouraging them to confidently enter spaces where they may feel unwelcome and to embrace their identity proudly.

“Stepping away will enable me to dedicate myself fully to defending the values I hold dear.”

Yacé called for unity and courage among Black and African-descendant communities worldwide, urging them to persist in breaking barriers and making their voices heard.

Her message transcended the pageant world, as Yacé urged others to continue breaking down barriers and making way in places where they are often overlooked.

Finally, she thanked everyone for their support throughout her journey. She congratulated the new Miss Universe and wished Miss Universe Jamaica a speedy recovery.

“I deeply appreciate the support I have received and the experiences that have shaped me. I now embark on a new journey with unwavering determination to uplift and inspire. Thank you to all who have been part of this exceptional adventure. IT’S TIME FOR AFRICA.”

READ ALSO: Giorgio Armani’s Last Catwalk Was His Story, His Way

How People Reacted to the News

Fans have showered Olivia Yacé with admiration since her resignation. Many have praised her for putting her values and integrity above the pressures of the pageant world, calling her a true queen who stands firm in her beliefs.

Olivia Yacé's resignation as Miss Universe Africa is a strong statement to the importance of staying true to one's values, even in the face of fame and opportunity. Her decision to do so after overcoming some challenges in Miss Universe was a pretty bold move that puts integrity over the title.

Yacé's call to action-that Black, African, and Afrodescendant communities continue to break through barriers-will no doubt inspire many to rise up against the status quo and fight for their rightful place in the world.

Now going into a brand-new phase, Yacé still stands to inspire and uplift young people, and her story is far from over. This may have marked the end of her reign as Miss Universe Africa, but it is only the beginning in terms of the impact she will have on society.

Born Temilade Openiyi, Tems is not just a singer. She is a Grammy-winning force. The story of Tems includes fierce independence and massive global statistics.

In this article, Pulse deep dives to uncover the figures, the early struggles, and the key people who helped launch Tems to superstardom in 2025. Tems is breaking records, and her net worth reflects this historic run. At age 11 years old, she joined her school choir and soon began singing in falsetto but was noticed by her music teacher who coached her and taught her how to play the piano. She attended Dowen College in Lekki. During her time there, her talent was spotted. During her secondary school days, Tems was frequently bullied because of her voice.

After secondary school, Tems moved abroad for her university education. Tems pursued a degree in Economics. She studied at The IIE MSA, formerly known as Monash South Africa, in Johannesburg. Despite studying Economics, the heart of Tems was always in music. The foundation of the Tems sound is self-taught production. This DIY ethos is crucial to understanding Tems. She learned to produce music using YouTube tutorials. Tems had to overcome serious initial doubts. Tems confessed to CNN about her early struggles. "It was really hard to get people to take me seriously — not just as a producer, but as a singer, period," Tems recalled. "I didn't feel safe, I didn't feel seen, and I didn't feel supported for a very long time." This feeling of being overlooked fuels the drive of Tems.

Who are Tems’ parents?

Tems was born to a Nigerian mother and a British-Nigerian father. Her parents divorced when she was five years old, and she was subsequently raised by her mother as a single parent in Lagos, Nigeria.

Her mother Olasimbo Davidson, is Nigerian and of Yoruba descent. Tems' mother was the woman featured in a popular Nigerian television advert for Royco seasoning cubes in the 1990s. Tems has a very close relationship with her mother, often acknowledging her sacrifices and support. She even included her mother's voice on a track ("Temilade Interlude") on her debut EP, For Broken Ears.

Her father is British-Nigerian. However, his identity remains out of public knowledge. He left the family when Tems was young and did not provide much support afterward. Tems has one known sibling, an older brother named Tunji. They grew up together and he often practiced music with her when they were younger, accompanying her on guitar. The two remain close and her brother was even featured on her Apple Music radio show, "The Leading Vibe".

Tems Musical Style

Tems’ sound sits in a unique space, a smooth fusion of Alternative R&B, neo-soul and Afrobeats, known in Nigeria’s creative circles as alté. Her music leans heavily into mood and emotion. The production is often atmospheric and layered, creating a soft, immersive world that draws listeners in from the first note.

Unlike the fast, dance-driven pulse of mainstream Afropop, Tems prefers a slower, more thoughtful approach. Her songs are built around rich harmonies, warm grooves and clean, minimalist instrumentals that leave plenty of room for her signature contralto voice to shine.

Her writing is deeply introspective. Themes of self-worth, love, vulnerability and personal growth run through her work, giving her music a relatable emotional weight. Tems’ style is defined by honesty and depth, and it is this authenticity that has set her apart on the global stage.

Tems Vocal Key

Tems possesses a powerful, versatile contralto range. This is the lowest female vocal type, known for its deep, rich, and often smoky or sultry texture, particularly in the lower registers. While Tems has performed across various musical keys depending on the song, she frequently performs in keys that complement her lower range.

For example, her hit song "Free Mind" is notably in the key of F minor. She leverages the depth and warmth of her voice to deliver soulful, emotionally resonant performances, capable of belting powerful notes in her chest voice and employing a soft, delicate falsetto.

Tems Discography

Tems' discography includes one studio album, three extended plays (EPs), and numerous singles and collaborations as both a lead and a featured artist.

Studio Albums (LPs)

Born in the Wild (Released: June 7, 2024)

Extended Plays (EPs)

Notable Singles as Lead Artist

Notable Singles as Featured Artist

Tems’ Global Domination: The Key Role of Wale 'Tec' Davies

Tems Musical Career

Which Record Label is Tems signed to?

What is Tems Net Worth in 2025?

DevFest Lagos 2025 was a full experience this year; energetic, intense, and packed with insights that truly captured the current mood of the Nigerian tech ecosystem. I attended the event as a tech writer who genuinely enjoys learning from the tech community, and the five-day festival showed again why DevFest Lagos remains one of the most influential tech conferences in Nigeria.

Organised by Google Developer Groups (GDG), DevFest brings together software engineers, product designers, AI enthusiasts, cloud experts, founders, and beginners in tech. And just like past editions, the Lagos edition stood out again this year, but with some noticeable changes that organisers openly addressed.

DevFest Lagos Moved to the National Theatre This Year

I had a conversation with one of the organisers, Sodiq Akinjobi, who shared a fresh perspective that many attendees may not know. For years, DevFest Lagos has been held at Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island. This year, for the first time ever, it was hosted at the National Theatre, Lagos.

When asked why, he explained:

“We’re listening to the market and we’re experimenting. Every venue has its own advantages and disadvantages. We’re taking feedback, and that will determine where next year’s event will be. You’d notice this is the first major tech event to hold at the National Theatre.”

This shift instantly made DevFest Lagos one of the first large-scale tech gatherings to activate such an iconic cultural space.

What Changed With Ticketing?

If you’ve attended DevFest Lagos before, you’d remember the era of free food and drinks flowing for everyone. This year was different. Even with the ₦7,000 per-day ticket, the only items provided to all attendees were water and drinks.

Sodiq broke down the reason clearly:

DevFest is one of the most affordable tech events in Nigeria.

Many attendees received discount codes that reduced the ₦7,000 ticket even further.

Some people paid as low as ₦700, ₦350, or ₦1,500 depending on discounts.

The actual cost of hosting one attendee is around ₦35,000 per day.

The economy made it nearly impossible to keep the previous freebies.

He also added an interesting revelation:

“DevFest was historically free, but people started registering, selling their tickets, or not showing up. So we had to introduce a fee.”

The explanation made sense, and it reflects the larger challenges of running community-led tech events in Lagos.

Five Full Days of Tech

This year’s DevFest Lagos 2025 was five days long, from Tuesday 18 November to Saturday 22 November, each day packed with breakout sessions, hands-on workshops, and panel discussions across major areas of the tech industry:

Artificial Intelligence

Cloud Computing

Software Engineering

Product Design

Technical Writing

Web Development

Mobile Engineering

Community Leadership

Speakers came from different parts of the industry, giving practical insights, real experiences, and strategic advice for beginners, professionals, and everyone in between.

Some of the notable speakers included:

Odunayo Eweniyi (Co-founder, PiggyVest)

Chaka Ofili (Google Developer Expert, Cloud)

Funke Olasupo (Technical Writer)

Winifred Ekunife (Senior Product Designer)

Victor Oluwole (Head & Editor, Business Insider, Pulse Africa)

And many others across AI, cloud, engineering, fintech and design.

As always, DevFest Lagos brought out the strength of the tech community in Nigeria; collaborative, passionate, and eager to learn

Key Insights From the Speakers

Odunayo Eweniyi on Building for Billions

During her session, Scaling Technology for Africa’s Next Growth Phase, she highlighted something crucial: Africa’s digital economy is rising, but so are the constraints.

She pointed out:

Poor infrastructure

Low digital trust

High data costs

Regulations that slow down innovation

And she added a powerful message: scaling in Africa requires cultural fluency, not just technical talent. A point many young founders needed to hear.

Chaka Ofili on AI for Developers

During his keynote, he emphasised that:

“Use AI as a force multiplier, not replacement.”

This statement echoed because it underlined a message the global tech world is learning, AI is here to enhance skills, not wipe developers out.

A Moment of Reflection: Bernard Parah’s Opening Tribute

One thing that struck me deeply during the event was when Bernard Parah, CEO and Co-founder of Bitnob, began his session by calling for a moment of silence for victims of recent kidnappings and violence in Nigeria.

It was a sobering reminder that while we build technology, real people outside the auditorium are facing real struggles.

Olamide Balogun on the Future of Tech Talent

Olamide Balogun, Director at Google West Africa, drew a line in the sand:

“Coding isn’t enough. We’ve moved past the era of learning to code; we’re now in the era of coding to solve.”

This idea summarises what many global tech companies are now emphasising, problem-solving is the core skill, not just writing lines of code.

Arafat’s Takeaway

Arafat, a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer, shared that he learnt a huge amount about building safe, secure, and scalable solutions. According to him, he left the event super inspired, and his feedback represents what many attendees felt.

I’ve attended multiple editions of DevFest Lagos, but this year had its own unique energy, from the crowd size to the structure, to how intentional the sessions were.

The final day especially felt energising. The mix of AI discussions, cloud engineering sessions, design talks, and startup insights created something rich and stimulating. And yes, the after-party delivered a delightful finish. The music, the crowd, the atmosphere, a perfect wrap-up.

DevFest Lagos Remains a Pillar in Nigeria’s Tech Ecosystem

Beyond the sessions, DevFest Lagos stands out because it is community-organised, community-led and accessible. It is one of the few major tech events in Nigeria that cuts across every skill level, from professionals to beginners to tech aspirants.

And even in a tough economy, it remains one of the most reachable tech learning experiences anyone can attend.

DevFest Lagos 2025 wasn’t just another tech event. It was a meeting point for ideas, collaboration, and honest conversations about the future of Nigeria’s tech industry.

In fact, some of the most impactful employees start as “unpolished” candidates whose CVs might be rough, whose experience seems limited, or whose presentation isn’t as refined.

Learning to spot potential beyond the paper has become one of the most valuable hiring skills a recruiter or employer can develop. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

1. Look for evidence of learning agility

A polished résumé might show years of experience, but an unpolished one can show hunger: the drive to learn, grow, and adapt.
Learning agility can be one of the top predictors of long-term job success, even more than prior experience.
If a candidate has consistently improved their skills, taken free courses, or switched industries successfully, that’s a strong sign they’ll thrive once given the right support.

2. Pay attention to soft skills and mindset

Technical skills can be trained; mindset and attitude can’t.
Listen for curiosity, initiative, and accountability in an interview. Candidates who ask thoughtful questions, admit what they don’t know, or share how they overcame challenges often demonstrate strong emotional intelligence which is a key predictor of performance in any role.

3. Focus on transferable skills, not job titles

Someone who’s worked in customer service might excel in project coordination. A content creator could evolve into a brand strategist.
Instead of fixating on industry-specific experience, identify how their existing strengths can translate into your company’s needs.

4. Assess problem-solving ability through scenarios

Rather than relying only on résumé achievements, try practical assessments. Give candidates real-world tasks or scenarios that reflect the role.
Their thought process on how they structure a solution, adapt feedback, and stay calm under pressure often reveals far more than polished credentials ever could.

5. Value authenticity over performance

Some candidates may not interview perfectly, they may be nervous or less articulate but authenticity often signals self-awareness and humility.
With mentorship and training, these are the people who tend to become loyal, high-performing team members.

In Summary:

Spotting potential beyond the CV takes intuition, openness, and a willingness to see beyond surface-level polish. The next great hire might not have the perfect résumé but they might have the right mindset, heart, and determination to grow with your team.

#FeaturedPost

Shalipopi Announced Release Date For Third Album AURACLE

Nigerian award-winning rapper Shallipopi has officially set the wheels in motion for his next era. The self-proclaimed ‘Pluto Presido’ has officially announced his next project. It is his third album, titled AURACLE. The release date is set for 5th December 2025. Shalipopi shared the news on social media. His post on X(formerly Twitter) was direct and celebratory. He thanked God for his journey. He acknowledged his dedicated fanbase, the "Plutomanias." The tweet included a link for pre-saving the album.

My third studio album “AURACLE is finally coming out on the 5th of December 2025, I thank God for my journey all the way to this point, thank you Plutomanias for sticking with me🪐
I love y’all Pre Save Link on my bio💀 pic.twitter.com/HcNOlMA7CT
— Shallipopi (@plutomaniapopi) November 24, 2025

The new album marks a significant milestone for the Edo-born star, whose rapid rise has been fuelled by viral hits, chart-topping projects, and an unmistakable sonic identity. With AURACLE, Shallipopi will have dropped three full-length albums in just over two years.

From “Elon Musk” to Global Spotlight

Shallipopi, born Crown Uzama, became a household name in 2023 when his breakout track “Elon Musk” took over the airwaves and social media. The hit pushed him into the mainstream, showcasing his blend of Afrobeats, street-pop, hip-hop inflections, and the cultural flair of Benin City.

He followed the hit with a string of high-performing projects. His Planet Pluto EP (July 2023) introduced the now-viral “Pluto” slang and established a confident sonic direction. It was his first major statement, and the streets quickly embraced it. Later that year, his debut album Presido La Pluto (November 2023) debuted at No. 1 across major charts, including the TurnTable Top 100 Albums. Packed with fan favourites like “Cast”, the album reinforced his knack for turning street language into nationwide hits. The ODUMODUBLVCK collaboration heightened its impact, helping cement Shallipopi’s status as a chart force.

Barely months later, he returned with a second album, ‘Shakespopi’, released on 11 April 2024, another immediate chart-topper. Its standout single “ASAP” shot straight to No. 1 on the TurnTable Top 100, confirming his commercial dominance.

Shakespopi’s Mixed Reviews and the High Stakes for AURACLE

Despite the hype, ‘Shakespopi’ failed to live up to commercial expectations and was also received poor critical feedback.

Several major publications criticised the project for relying too heavily on Shallipopi’s established formula. Critics said the album lacked the artistic progression they expected from a sophomore effort. Some described it as rushed, with rudimentary songwriting and limited thematic depth.

They noted the lack of lyrical depth on many tracks. Some critics also believed the album lacked the storytelling of his earlier work. It showed Shallipopi’s power to create club anthems. But it left listeners craving something more innovative.

However, AURACLE is now expected to answer that challenge and really define its growth in clearer terms. The title itself, AURACLE, suggests a shift into something more spiritual or introspective. Fans and critics expect a change. They anticipate a new level of sonic maturity. The project needs to move beyond the established "Afro-Pluto" template and must show musical growth and deeper thematic exploration.

The album is confirmed to feature 22 tracks, including the hit singles "Laho," "Laho II" (featuring Grammy winner Burna Boy), "Laho III" (with Puerto Rican sensation Rauw Alejandro), "Him" (featuring American rapper Gunna), and "Na So." The artist can take his time. This may result in a more polished final product, and Plutomanias are ready to support their Presido. They are eager to see if AURACLE will silence the critics.

Expectations are immense because Shallipopi has the talent. He has the commercial pull. AURACLE could be his moment; he moves from breakout star to long-term mainstay. It is his chance to prove his staying power, and December 2025 cannot arrive soon enough.

Professional Hairstyles for Men

You would agree with me that, no matter the gender, appearance is not just about looking good. It is about feeling confident, intentional, and put-together. Choosing a hairstyle can be tricky for many men, especially because most of them have naturally textured hair.

You want something clean without losing your personality, stylish without looking too casual, and easy to maintain without making it look like you put no effort at all. Well, the good news is there are plenty of modern, professional hairstyles that will keep you looking sharp, refined, and ready.

From low fades to locs, twists to buzz cuts, the options are many, and there is a professional hairstyle that fits your lifestyle and hair type, and keeps you comfortable.

READ ALSO: 7 Hairstyles every Nigerian girl has tried at least once

Top 10 Professional Hairstyles for Men

Here is a curated list of 10 professional hairstyles guaranteed to elevate your look and presence every time.

1. Tapered Afro

The tapered afro is probably one of the cleanest and most balanced professional hairstyles for men. It keeps the natural volume and texture at the top while maintaining neat, tapered sides that create a sharp, structured silhouette. It's great for the guy who wants style without doing too much.

Another advantage of the tapered afro is that it is versatile. It suits most face shapes and can be worn slightly longer or shorter depending on personal preference. As long as the sides and back are kept clean, the overall look remains polished.

Styling Tip: Keep your top moisturised with a light leave-in conditioner to maintain shape and avoid dryness.

2. Clean Buzz Cut

The buzz cut is the standard for men who want a simple yet professional look with minimal upkeep. Its even and low-profile, effortlessly gives off a neat and disciplined appearance. For men with tightly coiled hair, the buzz cut will save you from the daily styling stress while still keeping you looking sharp and put together.

Styling Tip: Pair your buzz cut with a crisp lineup every 1–2 weeks for lasting sharpness.

READ ALSO: 7 Hairstyles That Make Nigerian Men Look Younger

3. Bald Head with Full Beard

A bald head with a full, well-groomed beard is the ultimate combination of confidence and maturity. The clean shave gives a refined, professional look that frames the face strongly, while the beard adds personality and balance.

Maintenance is straightforward but intentional. The beard must stay tidy, moisturised, and properly shaped to create that contrast between smooth scalp and textured facial hair. It is a bold, stylish choice for men embracing hair loss, or for those who simply prefer a clean shave.

Styling Tip: Use beard oil daily to maintain softness and prevent patchiness.

4. Low Fade

The low fade is one of the most versatile hairstyles for men. It offers the clean look of tapered sides without being too dramatic. The fade begins just above the ear and gradually blends into the top, which can be kept short, medium, or textured, depending on preference.

Because of its subtle finish, the low fade works exceptionally well with natural African hair textures. You can pair it with curls, coils, or even waves, and it still maintains that polished and modern aesthetic. The trick is consistent maintenance to keep the fade crisp and smooth.

Styling Tip: Visit your barber every 2–3 weeks to keep the fade fresh and uniform.

READ ALSO: 7 Hairstyles That’ll Survive Every Party, Concert, and Event This Detty December

5. Tapered Fade with Waves

This style blends two classics: a sharp tapered fade on the sides and the iconic 360 waves on top. The result is a clean yet textured look that fits perfectly in professional environments. The taper ensures the haircut looks structured, while the waves add personality without appearing too flashy.

This hairstyle does require commitment, especially if you are building waves from scratch. Brushing, durag use, and regular moisturising are very important.

Styling Tip: Use a wave brush daily and sleep with a durag to maintain definition.

6. Skin Fade

By fading the sides all the way down to the skin, this haircut creates a striking contrast that enhances facial features. It works incredibly well for men with strong jawlines or defined cheekbones. The key is not letting the top grow too wild.

Styling Tip: Keep the top neat and trimmed regularly to avoid losing the clean contrast of the fade.

READ ALSO: The Biggest Hair Trends That Have Defined 2025 (So Far)

7. Dreadlocks (Short to Medium Length)

Dreadlocks are cultural, expressive, and are now common in professional spaces. Short to medium-length locs are the most workplace-friendly. They give off a clean, uniform look that maintains texture without overwhelming the face. And they are perfect for men who want to keep their natural hair in a protective, long-term style.

Regular retwisting or freeform shaping, scalp care, and ensuring the locs stay clean and tidy make them both stylish and appropriate for work. When well-maintained, locs appear mature and well put together.

Styling Tip: Retwist or palm-roll your roots every 4–6 weeks to keep the base neat.

8. Flat Twists

Flat twists are sleek, protective, and perfect for men who want a low-manipulation style that still looks intentional. These twists sit close to your scalp, creating a neat, patterned appearance that's easy to keep up and is professional enough for work. It will also stretch the natural hair, reduce shrinkage, and protect the scalp.

They can be worn alone or styled into simple patterns for a subtle statement. As long as the edges are trimmed and the twists are refreshed when necessary, the look remains tidy and polished for days.

Styling Tip: Use a light oil or cream to keep your scalp moisturised and your twists neat.

READ ALSO: Top 7 hairstyles that drive men wild

9. Twists (Short to Medium)

Twists give a soft, textured, and effortless look. When you keep them at a moderate length, they appear clean, controlled, and stylish without doing too much. Twists are also one of the best options for natural hair because they protect the strands while still allowing movement.

The key is to ensure the twists stay tight and moisturised so they don’t frizz too quickly. With proper maintenance, twists can last over a week and still look good.

Styling Tip: Refresh your twists with a light twisting cream every few days to keep them defined.

10. Cornrows

HBO has turned its cameras towards one of Africa’s most influential stars, and this time the story is deeply personal. Wizkid, Nigeria’s global music export, is stepping into a new chapter as the network prepares to release MUSIC BOX: WIZKID: LONG LIVE LAGOS, a documentary tracing the singer’s rise from Lagos streets to worldwide acclaim. The film debuts Thursday, 11 December, airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.

Created under the acclaimed Music Box banner, developed by American producer Bill Simmons, the documentary promises a rare, intimate look at the man behind the music. It is directed by Karam Gill, known for his work on films about Lil Baby and Tekashi 6ix9ine. This time, he turns his lens on one of Afrobeats’ most defining figures.

A Career Shaped by Lagos

Wizkid’s journey begins in Ojuelegba, a bustling suburb of Lagos where he nurtured impossible dreams. With limited music infrastructure and few industry pathways, the prolific hitmaker built his sound with raw determination. Every song was a step forward. Every performance pushed him into new territory.

The documentary follows this journey across continents, capturing his transition from local prodigy to global powerhouse. It highlights his unique blend of Afrobeats, Pop, and R&B, a sound that has earned him massive critical and commercial success, multiple awards, and a Guinness World Record. Gill includes commentary from key voices around Wizkid. His manager and partner, Jada Pollock, opens up about the challenges of building a global career while maintaining a private family life. Music legend Femi Anikulapo-Kuti lends historical context, while UK broadcaster Julie Adenuga speaks to Wizkid’s deep influence across Europe.

A Historic Night in London

The climax of the film takes viewers behind the scenes of Wizkid’s show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 29 July 2023. It was a night that cemented his global status.

The Grammy winner became the first African artist ever to headline the venue, performing before tens of thousands of fans. But the cameras capture more than the lights and sound. They follow Wizkid through the pressure, the exhaustion, and the emotional weight of performing while dealing with a private family health crisis. It is a side of the superstar rarely seen: controlled, vulnerable, and honest.

Beyond the music, the documentary addresses the broader struggle African artists face when presenting their work to the world. It examines the long and complicated relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with colonial history still influencing cultural perception.

Wizkid’s global success becomes a statement of its own. Every record broken. Every stage conquered. It challenges stereotypes and repositions Lagos, not as a struggling city, but as a creative force capable of influencing global entertainment.

Streaming platforms have made this shift possible. As Afrobeats travels across borders, Wizkid emerges as one of the voices redefining how Africa is viewed. The film captures this cultural shift with clarity.

A Landmark Project for Afrobeats

Director Karam Gill presents Wizkid not as a distant idol but as an artist still learning, still evolving. The film celebrates Lagos while acknowledging the weight of global fame. It is as much a story about a city as it is about a superstar.

For fans across the world, WIZKID: LONG LIVE LAGOS offers a broader portrait of a man who continues to shape modern African music. It is emotional, revealing, and timely. The documentary arrives at a moment when Afrobeats is louder and prouder than ever.

The film stands as both a tribute and a turning point. It is a reminder that Wizkid is not just part of the global music conversation. He is also leading it.
