Max has Bipolar disorder but for some reason I get the feeling that his "disorder" actually helps him to create the amazing music the band makes.

Say Anything is one of the most talented bands of its genre... and there latest CD "In Defense of The Genre," sure defends a genre that is stereotypically not known to feature a whole lot of talent, but boy these guys got talent. Their current bass player, Alex Kent, is personally one of my favorite bass players, for he always plays really busy cool lines. Their drummer is pretty decent, having some cool fills here and there and the guitars are really good as well. "In Defense of the Genre" Is a must have for bass players... and all other musicians as well that are fans of the genre.

Speaking of "genre" Say Anthing is a really diverse band that features hip hop, dance, punk, rock, pop punk, pop, emo, and even funk in many of their songs.

To keep this post relatively short, Say Anything is a truly unique band that is jam-packed with talent, and most importantly, Say Anything mixes a diverse amount of styles of music to really create their own "sound." "In Defense of the Genre" Is a must have for musicians, or just fans of pop punk whatever kind of music in general.

Notable Songs
-Wow I can Get Sexual too
-Alive With the Glory of Love
-Baby Girl Im a Blur
-Shiksa
-Every Man Has A Molly
-Woe
-This is F****** Ecstasy
-Died A Jew
-Retarded In Love
-Skinny, Mean Man
-Surgically Remove The Tracking Device

This is one of my favorite bands and I really think everyone should at least check them out

Links:

http://www.sayanythingmusic.com/
http://www.myspace.com/sayanything
http://www.purevolume.com/sayanything

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://punkstopmusic.blogspot.com/2008/09/punkstop-profile-say-anything.html' title='PunkStop Profile - On Mark Hoppus's official blog, found at:

http://himynameismark.com/

There is an interview with Mark about his role as a producer, talking about some of the bands Mark has helped produce. Let me give you the lowdown of what you need to start listening to.

Asteria - Asteria - Aug 19
-Asteria is back and better than ever with a brand new self titled EP. Great musicianship on this album. This is pop at its finest, great vocals, bass playing, some cool guitar and drum stuff here and there, nice electronic effects. Long Story short, check these guys out. Previous single "The Taste The Touch" is not their only good song ;) This EP is a must have for all pop, and pop punk fans.

Jack's Mannequin - The Glass Passenger - Sep 30
-No, this CD is not out quite yet, but definitely make sure to put "The Glass Passenger" on your list. Jack's Mannequin is a very talented, catchy band that anyone can listen to. With previous songs "Bruised," "Holiday From Real," "The Mixed Tape," and "Dark Blue," these guys are loaded with catchy single quality songs. I have high hopes for "The Glass Passenger. Be sure to check this one out.

Underoath - Lost In The Sound of Separation - Sep 02
Not a huge fan of Underoath, although their new cd got really, really good reviews.... And I think this is a must have/must check out for all hardcore, screamo fans.

Senses Fail - Family Tradition EP - Aug 26
-This Ep, plus future cd (Life is Not a Waiting room out Oct. 7th) are probably the 2 cds Im most exited for on this list. First of all, everyone reading this go buy the new Senses Fail EP on itunes for 3 bucks. It comes with 3 songs and a cd sampler track. All 3 of the songs are amazing. These guys are so talented... guitar solos, sweet drumlines, decent bass, ridiculous vocals... This Ep + Future Cd are must haves for everyone reading this. BUY IT

Valencia - We All Need A Reason to Believe - Aug 26th
-These guys prove that pop punk is still out there( not another stupid media hungry boy band...) and better than ever. I havent bought this CD yet but its on my list. If you are a fan of All Time Low, these guys tour with them... Valencia's newest CD is a must have for all pop punk fans and a must check out for everyone reading this. These guys are talented and I have high hopes/expectations for their future.

Punchline - Just Say Yes - Sep 16
-Not out yet, but Punchline is a pretty good pop punk band worth checking out. Ive already got the new single "Somewhere In the Dark" and have to say... this is some really catchy cool stuff. They have however changed their sound quite a bit(judging by their new single) So I can't say this would be a must have... but this is a must check out. Check out Punchline!

...Should have a cool artist profile for you guys in the next few days

~PunkStop Music Blog

Hawthorne Heights Future is Fragile

Band: Hawthorne Heights
Album: Fragile Future
Release Date: August 5th, 2008

Hawthorne Heights has always been one of my favorite pop punk/screamo bands. Songs like "Ohio Is For Lovers," "Saying Sorry," and "Pens and Needles" really seemed to show off the catchy yet aggressive music Hawthorne Heights quickly became known for.

Sadly and unexpectedly, Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert was found dead November 24th 2007 at the age of 26. He was a huge part of the band and helped to define their popular, catchy sound. His death was a definite tragedy, he would have made a lot of great music and done a lot of great things. RIP...

The band however decided to move on, admitting that Casey would have wanted it that way. I couldn't agree more. It is quite obvious that most of the lyrics from "Fragile Future" are about Casey.

The new album however left me disappointed and unsatisfied. HH changed their sound completely, no screaming at all, no aggressiveness, and a more pop like sound. Just listen to their single "Rescue Me" and you will know what I mean.

I just miss the screaming, and the aggressiveness that made HH what they were known for. The new album lacks the old aggressive tone, leaving behind a real "empty" sound. I keep waiting for the songs to pick up, become more aggressive, but they don't. A lot of the songs just don't seem to go anywhere at all.

I understand that Casey died and the band is really emotional about him, and wanted to write this album for him. But why write bad music when they know they are completely capable of writing way better stuff? Fragile future is not a bad album, its just mediocre and HH is capable of writing way better music than this. Its not a bad album, its just not that good.

I still love HH but I just think the new record was a step in the wrong direction. Ill keep listening to it, maybe it will grow on me, but I think they should be more than just mediocre at best, and to me, thats all Fragile Future is.

Notable Songs
-The Business of Paper Stars
-Rescue Me
-Somewhere In Between
-Come Back Home

Vocals - 6 - pretty monotone voice, the vocals at the end of "Until Judgment Day" are just downright ANNOYING. Where the heck is the screaming?
Musicianship - 5- nothing fancy here, no cool bass riffs, no crazy guitar solos, no cool drum fills, nada... not bad musicians...solid group....
Creativity - 6.5 - definitely a different sound for HH but not too original sounding
Lasting Value - 4.5 - Listen to HH's older albums instead
Tilt: --

Overall Score 5.5/10

Final Opinion:

-not a bad album
-its great that these guys are still together and strong
-HH is capable of way better music than this

Sorry about this not to "positive" post... I should have some cool info on some actual GOOD new releases in the near future.

PunkStop Music Blog Is Back

The PunkStop Music Blog is back!

First of all I would like to say sorry to all of my subscribers for not informing you of my prolonged absence. Lucky Boys Confusion fuses mellow reggae with fast paced pop punk to create a unique blend of creativity. The band consists of bassist Jason Schultejann, drummer Ryan Fergus, vocalist Kaustubh (Stubhy) Pandav, guitarist/vocalist Adam Krier, guitarist Joe Sell.

The band started in 1997 and is here to stay. Like I've said before, The PunkStop Music Blog is all about bands with talent and Lucky Boys Confusion has plenty of it. Reggae is one of my most favorite musical genres and whenever a modern pop punk band adds some reggae to their sound, you know you can expect something unique and brilliant. So If you want to find a new band to listen to that creates a unique blend of reggae and punk, keep reading and make sure to check out Lucky Boys Confusion.

Albums

-Growing Out of It
-The Soapbox Spectacle EP
-Throwing The Game
-Commitment (MUST HAVE)
-How To Get Out Alive EP

Notable Songs

-Bossman
-Hey Driver
-Broken
-Atari
-Mr. Wilmington
-Something to Believe

Upcoming Tour

Feb 23 2008 7:00P The Rock Box Rockford, Illinois
Mar 7 2008 8:00P The Picador Iowa City, Iowa
Mar 8 2008 6:00P Blue Fugue Columbia, Missouri
Mar 28 2008 8:00P Ottos DeKalb, Illinois
Mar 29 2008 5:00P Notre Dame South Bend, Indiana
Apr 3 2008 5:30P Illinois State University - Bone Student Center Bloomington - Normal, Illinois
Apr 11 2008 8:00P Copper Dragon Carbondale, Illinois
Apr 12 2008 8:00P Canopy Club Urbana-Champaign, Illinois
Apr 30 2008 6:00P Western Illinois U - Adam & Stubhy acoustic Story Tellers Style!! The current members are:

Pierre Bouvier- Lead vocals
Charles Comeau - Drums
Jeff Stinco- Lead guitar
David Desrosiers-Bass, Back vocals
Sebastian Lefebvre AKA Seb- Guitar, Back vocals

The majority of the band were friends in junior high and grew up in Montreal, Canada.

With the PunkStop Music Blog I like to mainly write about pop punk bands with a lot of talent, because the genre "pop punk" is generally associated with not-so-talented bands who play mostly chords and basic music. Simple plan, however, is above this stereotype and plays some very talented music, but still remains to keep the "simplicity" that popular punk bands strive for. Simple plan features catchy, powerful vocals, innovative guitars, an amazing bassist, and solid drum beats. I am a bass player myself, and it's tough to find good pop punk bassists, but David Desrosiers is definitely one of them. He manages to play more than just boring root notes and adds a lot of flavor to the songs they write. He was even in the latest Bassplayer Magazine, check it out!

Studio Albums

-No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls
-Still Not Getting Any MUST HAVE
-Simple Plan MUST GET(releases February 12, 2008)

Notable Songs

-Welcome To My Life
-Untitled
-Perfect
-Shut Up
-Im Just A Kid
-When I'm gone
*the whole "Still Not Getting Any"

Upcoming Tour With The Graduate

Feb 25 Irving Plaza - New York, New York
Feb 26 The Filmore - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Feb 27 The Webster Theatre - Hartford, Connecticut
Feb 29 St. Andrews Hall - Detroit, Michigan
Mar 1 The Metro - Chicago, Illinois

source: http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=294606

New Cd February 12

-New Cd, "Simple Plan" coming out February 12
-You Can Stream the new album here: http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=294588

Want to find out more about Simple Plan or hear some of their music?

Official Website
Purevolume
Myspace

Check it out.

Bamboozle Lineup Updated

Bamboozle just recently updated its lineup:

Saturday May 3, 2008 -- Just Added

COBRA STARSHIP
FAMILY FORCE 5
FROM FIRST TO LAST
MAYLENE & Next, a native to Greenland(I'm assuming) speaks about the difficulties of life in Greenland. This music video was filmed entirely on location 200 miles north of the arctic circle.

The actual music video starts about 2 minutes into the video and features some truly amazing views of Greenland, not to mention the fact that the song is very good too.

The video can be found at http://youtube.com/watch?v=zL9R_i9Of1c

The video also brings up awareness to the fact that the icy glaciers of the arctic are melting at an astonishing rate. "In the 2 years since 'A Beautiful Lie' was released, nearly a fourth of the arctic ice shelf has disappeared...This represents a loss of sea ice roughly equal to the size of California and Texas Combined, or nearly 5 Britains...The time to act is now."

So aside from creating an amazing video covering the AMAZING wild life 200 miles north of the arctic circle, 30 Seconds To Mars is trying to raise awareness to the vast amounts of ice being melted in the arctic circle each day.

Check it out.

How To Start A Band

I think it's every musician's dream to be in a band or to start a band. In today's age, there are many tools/resources that help make starting a band even easier than ever before.

How To Start A Band --First Step -- Finding Band Mates

I am going to assume that if you are interested in starting a band(and reading this article) that you already have some basic musical knowledge and can ether play an instrument or sing very well. If not, then you should start playing an instrument or start working on your vocals immediately(this will make starting a band a lot easier ;) )

The basic first step to starting a band is to find fellow musicians like yourself. If you are in grade school or high school(or even college), you most likely already know a big list of musicians in your school. Simply get the word out to these people that you are interested in starting a band, and you will be surprised at how many of them will be willing to join ;)

You might think finding musicians is tough, but that's where social websites like "Myspace" or "Facebook" can come in handy. If you have ether one of these(and if you don't, you should get at least one of them) post a bulletin asking if anyone is interested in forming a band. Once again, you will be surprised at how many people will be willing to. Another great way to find people interested in starting a band is to post messages on bulletins at music stores and other music related places.

How To Start A Band --Second Step -- Developing Chemistry

Once you've found your band members, the second step is to develop some band chemistry. Start jamming and playing immediately and FREQUENTLY. Start out with some basic cover songs(try some Blink 182 covers, easy as heck but sound awesome), then move onto some more advanced stuff like writing your own songs and demos. Every time you guys practice you will start to become more and more accustomed to playing with each other, and the better you will start to sound.

How To Start A Band --Third Step -- Getting The Word Out

Now that you have been jamming for a while, its time to get other people to hear about your band, thats right, your mom can't be your only fan forever ;) First you will want to start locally by getting some kids in your school to know about you. Once you've got a decent fan base, its time to start getting some local gigs. I won't be getting into this in detail, but basically you will want to start recording some demos of your band. Once you've got a sizable catalog of songs at your arsenal, submit your demos to potential gig opportunites(restaurants, school shows, fairs, basic gatherings, friends bday party...etc).

There are many resources available to you on the internet that can DRASTICALLY help promote your band. You will definitely want to create a Myspace for your band, and a Purevolume page for your band. Purevolume is a website purely focused on promoting bands.

Here are the links to some internet websites that can help promote your band:

myspace.com
purevolume.com
facebook.com
And A List of 100 Other Places To Promote Your Band

Recap

I hope I've givin you a taste of what its like to start a band and how to go about doing it. To recap a bit:

1. Find Band Mates
-find kids at your school
-use social networking websites such as Myspace or Facebook
-Post a note on a bulletin in your local music store about starting a band

2. Develop Band Chemistry
-practice/jam frequently
-start with some basic covers, then start writing your own music
-the more you play together the more band chemistry you will build

3. Get The Word Out
-use word of mouth in your school
-record your band, then submit your recordings to potential gigs
-use internet web sites to help promote your band such as Purevolume or Myspace

After following these basic principals, a whole wide world of possibilities will be open to you and your band, so what are you waiting for? Go start a band!

Check It Out -- Amber Pacific

Amber Pacific is an amazing pop punk band that was formed in 2002 by some high school kids out in Seattle, Washington. The current members are singer Matt Young, guitarist/back up vocals/keyboardist Will Nutter, bassist Greg Strong, and drummer Dango. Amber Pacific combines catchy music with powerful vocals, and a great load of talent. Greg Strong creates catchy talented pop punk basslines, while the guitars sound just as good as well. Amber Pacific is definitely one of the more talented pop punk bands out there, another reason why you should check them out.

Albums
- The Possibility and the Promise May 24, 2005
-Truth In Sincerity May 22, 2007 MUST HAVE

Notable Songs
-Gone So Young
-Poetically Pathetic
-Fall Back Into My Life
-Summer (in B)
-Your Only Young Once
-Watching Over Me
-Always You (Good Times) [Acoustic Bonus Track]

It seems today that most modern pop punk bands keep sounding more and more like the next one, they all just sound so similar. A lot of the similarity comes from bands playing such simple music because simple, easy music tends to be the most catchy(usually). But every once and a while a pop punk band will come around with a lot of talent, talent that helps them differentiate from the other thousand sound-a-like bands. So go check out a band with some talent, Check Out Amber Pacific!

Amber Pacific Website
Amber Pacific Myspace
Amber Pacific Purevolume
Amber Pacific AOL Sessions

+44 Video Interview + More

I found this cool website called http://www.adlercast.com where a man named Brian Adler interviews some of today's hottest bands and puts the video interviews on his web page.

I'm a big fan of +44, the band Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker formed after their former band Blink 182 broke up. A big part of the PunkStop Music Blog will be me introducing new bands for you to check out. I've decided to start this new feature called Check It Out, where I will be introducing new bands and music for you to "check out."

Whole Wheat Bread

Whole Wheat Bread is a punk rock band from Jacksonville, Florida. Although they aren't your typical pop punk band, they are definitely still worth checking out. Band members Aaron Abraham and Joseph Largen were originally interested in starting a rap band, but they soon discovered that they were both interested in punk rock, and thus formed a punk rock band fused with some occasional rap and hip hop. I'm not a fan of rap myself but Whole Wheat Bread still manages to create some really catchy punk rock songs. Whole Wheat Bread also has a lot of talent and a phenomenal bass player. Just listen to the jumpy bassline on track "206," one of their more punk sounding songs.

Some Noteworthy songs to check out by Whole Wheat Bread:
-206
-Broke
-Police Song
-Loud and Clear
-Old Man Samson
-Feel Like Sh**t

Like I said, Whole Wheat Bread isn't your typical pop punk band, in fact, they classify themselves as "Dirty South Punk Rock," but it's still good to listen to different kinds of music, so check them out.

Want to learn more about Whole Wheat Bread or actually hear some of their music?
-Check out their cd called Minority Rules on itunes
-http://www.purevolume.com/wholewheatbread
-http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2971554

~Go listen to some music~

Blink 182 -- Huge Influence On Modern Music

Blink 182 was formed in 1992 by Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Scott Raynor(later replaced by Travis Barker). Little did they know however, the pop punk trio would later become a HUGE sucess and influence to modern day pop punk, rock, emo music. Blink 182 was all about writing simple, but catchy songs that caught the ears and eyes of millions of people. If you take a look at today's modern pop punk, rock music, you can trace a lot of its "sound" back to blink 182's distinctly catchy music.

I'm sure most of you reading this blog have already heard and know all about blink 182, but if you haven't, I highly suggest checking them out. Definitely check out their Greatest Hits cd which has some of the most catchy songs ever made!

With over 5 studio albums and around 25 singles, this is one band you can't and most likely haven't missed out on.

Blink 182 did break up in 2005, but band mates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker formed +44, and Tom DeLonge formed Angels & Airwaves.

Definately check out Blink 182 if you haven't already, for you will not be disappointed.

Welcome to the PunkStop Music Blog!

Welcome to the PunkStop Music Blog!

The PunkStop Music Blog is dedicated to providing you with an abundance of music related information.
