Survived Mother's Day!

SO...

I found out Mother's Day is the second busiest holiday for our flower shop. And we happily survived our first. But unlike Valentines Day (where all the panic was over in a couple days) Mother's Day last an entire week! But like I said we survived and learned a lot. So I'm happy to report I'm back to blogging , and working on the online shops. I have a little road trip coming up soon, that will be up the Pacific Northwest. I can't wait to share pics. But for now, here are some snips of flower chaos.

Life Lately

So it's been about a week since my cast has been off. My life has changed from sitting in my house bored out of my mind to walking and seeing the light of day again. Now I was supposed to use my crutches this last week (I didn't) but I was pregnant lady with a cute gimp, I thought. I went to S.F. to see some good friends of mine, I went back to work which felt soooo good and just in time for mother's day. My mother and I purchased some awesome raw cut stones for the store, mainly for our jewelry display, but still makes the store front so much more fun to shop in. And a shot of me 8 months preggers, we hit 33 weeks. Can't believe Luna is almost here. Sorry this blog has been on the back burner with my life coming off the couch, but do not fret May holds good things for Purple Deer. Let me know what everyone has been up to lately?

Mad Men: Clothing Analyzed

So my husband is beyond awesome. He enjoys sharing things on the web that he thinks might peek my interest. I know that doesn't sound huge, or anything...but really those little things matter to me. Anyways, I am so happy he decided to share Tom and Lorenzo's Mad Men's clothing critique with me. I've spent half my night reading every single article, and reflecting back on the show. I must have said, "Oh yeah!" a million times last night. The symbolism from the colors, and patterns they wear to the texture in the background all play a part in the scheme. I really adore artistic detail like this. So if you too are nerdy for Mad Men and symbolism I suggest reading those fabulously put together articles.

I'm going to give one spoiler away. Have you ever noticed Joan and her fabulous flower print dresses? Well let's just notice here that the flower dress she's wearing (when her soon to be ex-husband comes home from war) is black. But when the fighting is over and he his gone you'll notice she's wearing a flower print shirt along with PANTS, with a much smaller flower print, but that black is gone. Gosh still geeking over that one.

Spring/ Summer Wishlist

So being the first spring I've had a backyard since being a kid, has turned me into nature woman. Gardening, planting and lounging back there is most of leisure time now. So enhancing the yard outdoor friendly pillows, pretty prisms for my cacti shelf, mugs to plant my little cat nip plants in, and a pouch for Milo to continue collecting various backyard specimen.

Mama's Day Giveaway!

So our little flower shop has joined forces with Teleflora. This allows us to wire out flower arrangements world wide. So we are showing off our skills with this happy Mother's Day arrangement (Lush and Lavender)...let's face it, mama's have earned it. Or this can be a lovely arrangement for yourself (we won't tell). As promised from last nights tweet...I broke my ankle. Saturday the weather was wet. Milo and I were enjoying a day of stuffed mushrooms and cartoons when the door bell rang. Solicitors who could clearly see me inside rang the door bell anyway. So I hurried to my feet and the tile in front of my door was wet. I slipped, heard a pop, and screamed like I never have. Luckily the solicitors were kind enough to listen to me scream and allow me to tell them how to break into my house so they could get my phone. They also put ice on my ankle and then I kicked them out as they proceeded to try and sell me crap while I'm on the floor screaming. 911 came, they gave me drugs and a boot. The drugs made Luna sleepy, but nothing harmful. I took the reset with out any morphine. The fire fighter looked at me like I was crazy, but that was the one drug that could hurt Luna. She's had her heart scanned several times and she's doing just as well as before. My poor Mario was in another town delivering flowers when this happened, but he came as soon as he could. He's been such a hero the last few days just non stop taking care of me, Milo, and my end at the flower shop. So I'm taking a week off blogging to heel through the hard part and then I'll be back with boot and all. A shot of the boot, a 7 month pregnant lady looks pretty ridiculous in crutches.

The one good that came from this was my hallucination dream as John Ham as a mermaid, who kept asking me to live under the see with him. Can't deny that wasn't awesome.

I'm a larger bust woman. And as most busty women know, swimsuit shopping can be a bummer. No support, overfilling the cup, or just plain smashing the girls. So as I wait for Christina Hendricks to launch her swimsuit line, J. Crew is the next best thing. All the swimwear below offer D cups, and a flattering figure for women with curves. So many to pick from, but I have my eye on this green one.

Egg Love

So spring is all about eggs. And truthfully, I love eggs. I love eating them, looking at them, and even making them "pretty". Here I thought I'd share some vintage egg designs inspired from half my heritage Ukraine/ Poland. I stumbled upon them here. But this particular set of egg designs/ plates was actually the region where I have traced back my family tree. So amazing to find and look at.

New Obsession

Christopher Ross belts have my heart. Giant, bold animals along the waistline are just my new obsession. Most people know I have a fetish for animal prints, bags, jewelry, etc. But these belts have me. Can't help but feel that the woman, or man wearing the animal they picked some how represents them as a person. It takes a certain person to pick a fox, lion, or even rabbit. Something to think about next time you see anyone wearing a particular animal.

Also keep in mind if you find a vintage one....hang on to it like gold.

Baby Hair

Over at the Flower Shop we are getting ready for our first wedding season. The brides that have come in so far have had wonderful ideas. My favorite idea has been baby breath in the hair (substitution for a veil) . So delicate and dainty. I had baby spray roses as a crown for my wedding day, but if I could re-do it I think I'd put baby breath instead. What flowers would you want in your hair?

I promise this is my last post about nursery's for a while. But as you know we are putting together Luna's future bedroom. U.O. has a cute vintage inspired dresser, but in my opinion way overpriced as usually. And don't get me wrong I like U.O. but I never buy anything full price there, it always has to be on sale becasue the quality is often poor. But anywho even their dresser on sale is still $139. Lucky for me the antique store down the street from the Flower Shop (Second Hand Rose) had a real 1940's aqua dresser for $48. So I think I scored.
