I know I have been missing from the blog world and I promise I will make up for it come February. This month hasn't given me any time to think, create, visit my favorite blogs, plan the not-so-little one's 3rd birthday,take a nap or even sit. I am hoping the rest of the month will fly by and then I can truly start my New Year. Can February qualify for the New Year slot? Because really I haven't had the time to celebrate January and I am not liking it. Not loving January.Nah.

The week that was.

Work deadlines,organizing documents for the kiddo's school admission marathon that begins soon, escorting her to four birthday parties in a row, hosting and cooking for a hundred people over the last one week (though let me tell you I enjoyed every bit of it and will do it again if someone asked me to :)), planning a Xmas get together for a group of very close friends and a million other things like finally putting up our Xmas tree.And I loved every bit of it. And now flaunting designer bags under my eyes.That was my week.

Did I mention I also went on a roller coaster of happy-very happy-super happy emotions courtesy a lady in yellow shoes? Grin.

There is something so stunning about this room. Its so simple yet exquisite.

All that white, the colourful rug and that pallet couch. Beautifully recycled and the striped cushions do it complete justice.

And since we are looking at this lovely example of creative restoring, let me share with you the Go Green contest that is on at GoodHomes.

There are gift wraps and there are GIFT WRAPS. I am SO loving these. You have to see them to believe. And ofcourse spend a little time observing the detailing of each one. I can't get over all the gorgeousness. With Christmas & New Years' just around the corner, do give these a try. I know I will. So inspiring.

Elegant and subtle. The use of multiple layers, lace, flowers and some shimmer. Ooo...

Stunning! Such a creative use of leaves and flowers. So awesome. So Fab.

Hello people. Liking December?

I am totally loving it. For the slight chill in the air. For the warmth of the sun that we are enjoying. And more importantly for all the get togethers at home that not only translate into good times with family & friends but also tons of opportunities to do up the home and cook. My two favorite things to do :)

The month began with a Sunday brunch with the extended family and then there is our anniversary, sister's birthday, Christmas and the New Year to be planned. I am excited to play the role of the hostess and the cook. Can't get any better? :))

Is your Christmas tree up?

Each year I like to hunt for offbeat and creative Christmas trees. And I am swooning over these ones at the moment.

How sweet is this? One can create this in minutes with just some felt/paper and a pair of zigzag scissors. Would be nice to have many of these on the dinner table. I am so doing this.

Tiny pillows make for a cute Xmas tree. I wish I was a sewing goddess.

How creative is this? Christmas ornaments in December and one can keep changing it suit different occasions. Lurve this one.

Pretty doable, right? I would love to sit under this one with a cup of hot chocolate (Only 70% cocoa please)

And finally what a brilliant idea to display your cards and have a tree.

Do you have a library and a garden? I have books in every room on every shelf. That qualifies as a library, doesn't it? :)) And a tiny balcony garden made with a lot of love...handpainted chairs, lanterns, handmade pots and ofcourse many many greens.

Four beautiful years

Four years? Four years!

Yes, it has been four beautiful years. I first wrote here on the 21st of Nov'07 and wow, what a journey it has been :)

When I started blogging it was essentially a space where I could bookmark ideas that inspired me, record my experiences & projects, capture sweet memories; all with design as the underlying theme. Over time it also became a place where I got the opportunity to meet so many creative people.

purplehomes has given me more than I could have ever imagined.

Four years ago, I couldn’t have imagined making lifelong friends in different parts of the world.

Four years ago, I couldn’t have imagined I’d be consulting for an organization for a cause so close to my heart.

Four years ago, I couldn’t have imagined I’d be writing for design magazines.

Four years ago, I couldn’t have imagined someone out there would be writing about me.

Four years ago, I couldn’t have imagined the birth of my new baby, www.purplehomes.co.in (I’ve been working really hard with my small, extremely talented and growing team and we hope to go live by the end of the year)

A big thank you to each and everyone of you.For being there.

For giving me an opportunity to write here and make this a space a special part of my life. A space that I love revisiting; to rejuvenate and remember. Writing here refreshes me and clears my head and simply going through the older posts helps me savour the good times I’ve had in the last four years.

Thank you once again.

And like all the celebrations in my life, food needs to be an integral part of it. So I’ve decided to rejoice by gifting myself a new blog.A food blog.

I am quite a dreamer. Its an OCD I tell you. Even before I have finished working on one project I start dreaming about what I'd like to do next. The minute I have baked one complicated dessert I am dreaming of the next recipe that I can challenge myself with.At times I also dream about running everyday and some day being able to participate in a marathon...well, this dream will sure take some time to turn into reality and lots of pushing too :)

When I came across this product here I thought this was the best DIY ever (if you want to make it). Ofcourse you can always buy it.

Get hold of a box and put a picture/object of what you are dreaming for or want to save for.A picture postcard for the vacation you've always longed for,keys for the driving lessons that you dream/need to take, pennies for the birthday gift for your mum or names of the authors for all the books you wanted to read.

I think this is a brilliant idea. It constantly reminds you of your dream and the visual reminder on your shelf/wall will push you to achieve it. Plus its super cute!

It will also make for a lovely present for a loved one. Because sometimes their dream is your dream, right :)

Buzzaria: A store by Blue Lotus

Today I am going to try and not do much talking. I am going to let the pictures talk instead. But before I go into exercising much self control to keep shut, you need to know a little about the fabulous lady behind the store, Mamta.

I met Mamta several years back (at Mumbai) and we exchanged an email. And then we lost touch completely until one day when she wrote to me, "Do we know each other? I was cleaning my inbox and found an email we exchanged" :)

"Yes. We do",I replied. And its been two years since then(Mamta had moved to Delhi by then). We met, exchanged ideas, got excited just hearing each other's future plans and swore that some day we will find a way to work together (still need to work on that last one:)).

One item on her wishlist was wanting to open her store. And today I am so proud to share these pictures. Yes, people her very own store. Buzzaria (It recently completed 60 days).

Each and every bit of it is screaming "Mamta". Its such a happy and warm riot of colors and don't even get me started on the detailing. And ofcourse, great products (don't forget to carry that wallet :))

Congratulations, Mamta. Wishing you all the success and happiness in the world.

Lets walk in.

My fondest memory of Diwali was when I used to live in Kuwait(in the gulf) and on that particular day all the Indians living around my area had lit up their houses without using absolutely any electricity and it looked absolutely magnificent!

Did you enjoy the last post?

Today I bring to you some more ideas...this time from my home. Like I was saying I don't really like using proper vases and am always trying to reuse a lot of other stuff lying around my home as "vases". Here are some pictures that you must have seen on my blog in many different posts over the years. I have put them all together for this post today. Hope you like it.

Pretty dainty green tea cups are perfect for holding a single bloom

Painted bird cage carrying flowers and diyas (I am guilty of buying these so not really reusing them:))

Dip serving bowls hold flowers and are perfect for floating candles too

Yes, thats my trifle bowl doubling up as a vase with big red stones and some water underneath

A Chai stand works well too

Or use the very common Lota :)

How about the aachar ka martbaan (Traditional Indian pickle jar)?

And finally, a kettle and espresso cups, anyone?

I hope you've been inspired and are already getting ideas. Do remember to look inside your kitchen for many many vases, this Diwali:)

Bring out those vases

It's that time of the year when your home should be full of fresh flowers. The weather is just right and festivals are just around the corner. I like to have flowers in my home all year round and always buy a bunch every weekend. It just makes me feel so happy. Not always does one have a lot of time on hand to create elborate floral arrangements and plus sometimes the "casual" bunch looks better than a made up one. What do you think?

I love to use whatever I have around the home and use them as vases. Infact I don't like proper "vases" and prefer the hundreds of other things that I have to make up for vases.

I quite like the idea of using teacups & kettles. They look adorable,don't they?

All those milk bottles & egg cartons.

Its always great to reuse and recycle. And several tiny bunches grouped together always make a statement and make it look all the more festive. What do you think?
