My love affair with the chicken....

Begun a long time before i learn how to run.

They used to run free n easy right in front of me
Shaking their fancy bon-bons, smirking at me.
I sat there wondering what could they be?
As a baby, i saw their meaty potentials already.

In the village, I was raised...
For a moment, it was braised
I smelled the air
And i smacked my lips...
Yey! Grandma has cooked
yummy chicken rice for me!

Chicken was a staple for me.No, not rice..but chicken... *grins. No wonder I always kept a lookout for potentials with the poultry owners' sons...

Fish was once in a blue moon.If I need to eat fish, it has to taste like chicken...so there it was the leather jacket fish aka Ikan Ayam-ayam (because the meat is so fleshy n similar to chicken instead of the normal thin melty fishy taste).

Anyway, my everyday menu has to include the main ingredient -Chicken. But the method of cooking differs daily. Monday-Ayam Kicap (chicken braised in sweet soya sauce). Tuesday-Ayam goreng (fried chicken in turmeric n ginger), Wednesday-Ayam kari (chicken cooked in Indian curry), Thursday-Ayam sop (soul detox with the hearty chicken soup n potatoes), Friday-Favourite childhood winner: Asam Pedas Ayam (Chicken cooked in sweet sourish chilli asam gravy famously known to be cooked with star studded fishes like stingrays n red snapper... but mine has to be chicken). Saturday & Sunday is a mystery, sometimes I eat out, Briyani chicken or something. This goes on for decades until....now.

Whenever I'm feeling blue, Chicken is my bestest friend. Sometimes, if possible, home-cooked food is always the best but sometimes, I take the easy way out....

So if you see me in an eatery with a 9 piece chicken on my own
or at the beach with a mountainous pile of chicken wing bones
or probably at midnight dining on chicken feet alone,
that means, I'm so engrossed in a challenging subject
that I shall not notice your presence
even if you stand there gawking at me or calling my name,
because after the last drumstick is left as a bone,
a solution is found on its own.
And then, I'm full n happy,
its time to go home...

WHQ on TV-Channel 5 Prime Time!

I was interviewed for being a Halal food blogger and for having travelled to many nations. I was on the world trip of completing 27 countries within 16 months when they contacted me. I flew home to shoot that segment. Still in jetlag mode but it was fun! Travel tips 101-Quran and what I learnt from my grandma.

I remembered when my grandfather passed on, I was in my teens and I was not able to recite the long Surah of the Quran. There I sat down with tears rolling down my cheeks at his sudden but peaceful departure and the only thing I can recite was Al-Fateha, and the 3 Qul.

I was taught the Quran when I was very young but since I did not make it a part of my growing up years, in time, I soon, forget them.

Anyway, after that, my grandma and I grew closer. We were the best buddies. I noticed that she often recite the Surah Yasin after every Subuh and every Maghrib prayers. So much so, she began to memorise them.

After my grandfather was gone, I make it my goal to be Quranic literate all over again. I went to classes starting from the humble alif ba ta but this time with the tajwid.

Alhamdulillah, when one is ready, the teacher appears. I was blessed to be guided by one of the best Hafiz Quran (who memorizes the Quran at young age) I know, hailed from Mecca & Medina;Al Ustaz Al-Hafiz Alaina Baderuddin Balli. He really enforced our makhraj (pronunciation) to be as perfect as possible. And also the principal of the school, Ms Adnaritha Kader is a wonderful person who also guides me on the personality of a Muslim woman and eventually, I get so close that the school is like my other home.

The wonderful staff also help to groom me to be a better Muslimah.

From days, it become years. Eventually, I met and learnt from various Ustaz, niches of their own professions: Quran and Science (Ustaz Saripi Rawi), Perubatan Islam/Sihir dan Jin menggunakan Al-Quran (Ustaz Jumadi), my foundation Quran and Jawi Teacher (Ustaz Soiman) and lastly the school advisor the late Ustaz Abdillah Al-Jufri (Fardu Ain, Sirah and many more).

As time goes, from a Quran newbie to a hifz student and then I proceed on to organise major religious events in auditoriums in Singapore. It was an amazing experiences because I met all kinds of famous people and yet, they humbly volunteered their time and let me lead them when they are much more experienced (like 20-30years).

Anyway, eventually, I learnt to be Quranic Teacher (MUIS certified), Qiraati Teacher (Certified), student of Darul Quran for Tahfiz Quran and Hadis, Arabic language student (distant learning with Madinah University).

That was when, I learnt that food plays a big part in our being. Especially when I was memorizing crucial surah, there will be times that I have trouble doing so and I have to look back and check upon my lifestyle (especially the food that I ate).

I also went to “experiment” on the taboo of eating fish head when memorizing the Quran. Its one of my favourite dish. I did my best to adhere to some of the “dos and “donts” of good food and habits for memory,for years until one of a well-known Ustaz who was one of the hifz competition judge told us, students- that he eats fish heads. And that day itself, I ran to the best fish head curry restaurant and broke my years of “fish head fast”. lol.

I went off course, didn’t I? lol.
Anyway, it was tough at first, to learn the basics of alif ba ta (like the basic of alphabets reading) when you are almost a young adult. But my classmates are much older than me. So it don’t matter. If you want to learn, go all the way for it. It’s not embarrassing. Once you get thru the first hurdle, the rest is easy.

Ok, back to the topic, whenever my grandma ask me to recite the Yasin, I will run away. I was ashamed because I only have learnt the basics and have not even started on Yasin.

Eventually, my grandma pestered and that motivates me to learn more at a faster rate. Eventually, I was able to recite to her and she listen with so much joy. I was happy that I was able to do that cos she then passed on, soon after.

My grandma has advised me to recite the Quran after every subuh and maghrib prayers, daily. I followed and soon enough, I memorised it, like her.

My grandma did not tell me the benefits but I can feel it. I know every alphabet has its own merits. But for me, whenever I travel, I recite the Surah Yasin. I will feel at ease. I felt like everything will be taken care of by the Almighty. Furthermore Yasin is the heart of the Quran and what better way to be connected to it, then heart to heart?

Whenever I’m worried or in doubt or for no reason at all, or when those emotional turbulences occur in my life or unexpected challenges appear in my travels, I will recite the Yasin. I used to carry the pocket Quran everywhere I go, now there is the conveniences of the apps and all that. So no excuse not to have it anywhere with you, k?

Oh, I just remembered that one of my Ustaz (teacher), my Hajj Mentor, Ustaz TM Fouzy said that whatever that you want, intent it and recite Yasin, insyaAllah it will be fulfilled. (something like that, allahu alam)

It’s ok, if you find it a lil bit intimidating to recite the whole Yasin or the whole Quran, start slowly. Start with the first sentence. Start with the first Surah. And do seek a teacher for this even though there may be a self-help diy Quranic recitation for dummies or something. Its best to be guided by the Teacher.

Even basmalah has its own benefits (if that is the only thing you memorise, its ok.) Do you know that reciting the Al-Fateha 7 times can help cure ailments? Its just simply the Al-Fateha.

Anyway, when one travels, if you need help, just ask directly from the Almighty (anyone, any race, any religion,-you may call Him; the higher power, the Universe, God, etc) ,He is always near and insya-Allah will answer your prayers.

Hope this tip helps you in your travel, be it in life or world or hereafter.

p.s: I’m just sharing what I’ve learnt. It’s true that we cannot just choose a certain Surah and take it like a magic mantra or something. Every ayat and surah has its own special benefits. Also this blog post is not to blow my own trumpet but actually to motivate myself to continue the hifz journey and if I, the Quran illiterate once upon a time can read the Quran and be the Quranic Teacher, you can definitely read, recite or complete the whole Quran or memorize them (whatever your intentions are, its possible). Age and time is not a limitation. But excuses are…

The birth of a traveller:Year of the Snake.

Ok,warning...this blog post is not related to food,at all.
Just to share a piece of me to the world....

Mama told me with great enthusiasm umpteen times on how I skipped the crawling stage when I was a baby.She told me that I was shaking my butt on the floor and suddenly, wa-la! I was up on my tiny little feet! Hmm,fascinating baby.

But does that make me the traveller that I am, because I was too tired of sitting on my bum and decided that its time,I make a stand? The birth of the standing baby...the feet that can never stay put in one place-The Movie. *lol

Anyway, I was born in the year of the snake (Chinese Calendar) and am very proud of it (i know some of you may think,snakes only love to eat and sleep-precisely why I love the snake!That's me:Sleeper and eater.)

But the above stories have no connection to the next unfolded story.Just sharing with you remnants of my pasts...

The real story that I was about to share was ...about how I became the "never-get-lost" traveller...

When I was very young, I love to go to the fresh markets with my mom.Back then, the markets are like "pasar malams" (almost like farmers markets/night bazaars) of today.Always crowded and full of life especially in the morning.

As I was holding on to my mama's hand, I was then jolted by the crowd and soon,the hand that hold on to me was gone.I was lost.I looked around, no mama's face and no familiar faces. Just people and more people walking by.

So what did I do next? Cry of course! Brawl as loud as possible and as much noticeable as I can in the drowning crowds. People begin to take notice of me and try to pacify me.Of course, then....I cannot remember the rest...

But I know later on,Mama found me sitting quietly,with swollen teary eyes in a van with the snakes (yikes!) and Chinese men. Mama said perhaps they are snake charmers/performers....I cannot remember, I guess the memory is somewhere there...in my dna... But I hope its not those herbal medicine men whereby they cut and gut the snakes and soak them into herbal liquid for ointments or herbal drinks(yikes!) .If that happens, it must have been gory!

But how come,I have a fear of snakes?Where did tht come from? perhaps, too long beside the snakes in the cages makes me scared of them.Yeah,I'm scared of snakes....EEEyeew...

Anyway, somehow...from the child's perspective,it was one of the most terrifying experience,ever.I was lost for 3 hours.Imagine that! Mama said, if she has given up, perhaps then I would be brought up by the snake charmers (hmm, i wonder what my future will be..instead of Halal food blogger,I would be the snake charmer cum blogger or the snake medicine woman...or author of the best selling book-A dummies guide to charm a snake and men alike... Hehehe)

Somehow from that experience, without me knowing,a vow has been made.I told myself that I will never ever get lost again. And somehow, the body reacted well to it.

Everywhere I go from then on, the mind will snap pictures of it in my mind (sort of like google map and google earth-Damn,I should have been the founder! *smiles) and stores them. Irregardless whether I take the bus or use my two legs,I will snap the streets routes, landmarks etc.

As I grew up, adults love to bring me out because I know the bus routes well and locations of unknown areas (not just my vicinity but the whole of Singapore).And my intuition serves me well thruout.

This fear of getting lost again is a blessing because I am mostly aware when I travelled.And now, its just automatic. My eyes are the lens of my "mind-camera".What I see, I shall not forget.

Sometimes, me and my step-dad who is also a world traveller will play a game.We will get lost in a foreign country and see who can make it back without maps. So far, my sense of direction has never been defeated (nice try..dad!U did well too!heheh)

Who says WOMEN cannot read maps? Say that again?!! *showing the fist and chuckles. I have lead my team and won the land orienteering competitions many times. Often, I ended up reaching the destinations hours before others, and that too with or without a map.

But truthfully, I prefer doing it without a map.Just sniff the air, the scent is different in different places. And my senses are more sensitive in places in which their languages are much foreign to me that I cannot read and the people are not that English language conversant like China,Russia etc..

So there it is...

P.s: Lost can have many meanings... Of course, when I reach a foreign country, I may get lost,,lost...but as my internal GPS gets accustomed (beyond jetlag,tiredness etc..) , I can somehow find my way back home, best on foot. And of course, the fun part of being a traveller is ... to get LOST..but what I meant LOST here is that u get so LOST, unsure where to go, need help etc..

Do note: I do not believe in any Zodiac signs or astrology icons or Chinese calendar year.I just wanna bask in the happyness of my Chinese friends who are celebrating their New Year soon.I can sense the joyous vibes being spread thruout Singapore.And I love the buzzing energy!

Singapore-Favorite Kuih at Rumah Makan Minang

The last time, I was here was in 2009. I was doing the Pilot Video Project- Halal food Fun project on my own (with permission from the MDA). I wanted to showcase one of the few gems in Singapore that has moulded the foodie that I am. I had a great pleasure in interviewing the wonderful couple, owners of the Rumah Makan Minang. They told me old stories when the restaurant was first set up. And it goes back all the way when the Hajj pilgrims were taking ship to Mecca for their Haj pilgrimage (wow! That was really retro..my granddaddy time!)

I also chatted with their friendly staff to get glimpses of the "happy working environment" here.

Back then, the restaurant was in the old setup. Now, it has a chic modern café makeover. I was told of their future plans and the makeover. And the very possibility of a new generation taking over, their lovely kids.

The history of me eating their food goes back along way, probably in the 1998-1999, when I was in my teens. I was very active in my Hifz school and often have to be the Program Manager who ensures the whole event run smoothly. And one of the favourite location was the Sultan Mosque Auditorium. And when food was concerned, they often cater from Rumah Makan Minang, just opposite Sultan Mosque. And when we catered, I always loved their Malay Beef curry (only during catering). Best eaten with Roti Peranchis (Locally made Baguette).

And over the years when I do miss homecooked traditional malay cooking such as Asam Pedas Fish, Lemak Pucuk Ubi (Tapioca Leaves in coconut gravy),green bean dessert.. I will come over (my house was always within walking distance) and satiate my longing tastebuds. And I will not be embarrassed to use my bare right hand to indulge this Malay rice dishes (irregardless of the many Japanese tourists who often come over to take a look and sometimes, eat as well). I felt so at home.

And today, I was craving for one of my favourite Tahu Goreng (fried fresh beancurd with blanched beansprouts, cucumber slices,all immersed in generous dollops of peanutty sauce somewhat like Satay gravy but much thicker and fragrant), to me, its one of their signature dishes introduce to me by the old timers, of Sultan Mosque staff in the 90s. But alas, it was not ready yet. But fret not, many dishes are already on their display as early as 8.30am.

What I like about dining here, is the taste and quality has always been tip-top, thruout. They have not disappointed me in every of my visit. If they use coconut gravy, they will use the fresh coconut milk. If you don't believe me, try their famous Chendol!(watch out for that calory count!)

So without much hassle, I immediately helped myself with the food. There were too many mouth-watering ,yummy looking dishes that I do not know what to choose. We ended up with the Sotong masak hitam (cuttlefish cooked in their own black ink), pucuk ubi masak lemak (my childhood favourite), asam pedas(another hot and spicy favourite), beef rending (beef stewed in Indonesian spices), lontong (local Malay breakfast), and some kuih.

I sensed something different but I'm not sure whether it's me (Cos I've not been eating here for many years) or has there been a change of hands in cooking the recipes?The owner was not on site and so I did not pursue the matter. But nevertheless, my favourites are still the same- Asam Pedas Fish and Pucuk ubi lemak (Tapioca leaves in coconut gravy).

And as I was still looking around for Malay Kuih, I saw these Pineapple Tarts and Kuih Makmur ...all bottled up. (If you are looking for last minute Chinese New Year shopping, this is one place to chunk up on your food cabinets!)

Then I saw the fried fritters, the fried bananas are still quite soft, although its not that hot and piping anymore. The fried keledek is ok, the Gendang Kasturi is not bad (fried round fritter filled with sweet greenbeans and grated coconut). All are so HUGE!

Then, I get up and check out their Kuih display, again. This time, the savoury talams and etc are ready to be eaten! Woohoo! They looked as though they were saying-Please eat us with LOVE because we are made of LOVE. *chuckles

Truthfully, I know not much about these Kuih. I only know how to eat them. And I do not really fancy them because they never really take my fancy, generally ...in all Malay shops.

But today, they proved me wrong.

I have tasted my fair share of Malay Kuih in Singapore, and they were often not that interesting until today. I was so curious when I saw them freshly brought out from the kitchen, that I immediately ordered them.

These are so good that... I was converted into a Malay kuih fan,instantaneously.

My Favourite Kuih are the ones on the left....
I absolutely adore and love the Getas-getas (the ovallish one covered in white sugar), Kuih Dadar(bright green one which looked like spring roll), Tepung Gomak (round brownish covered in powder), and the Talams (colourful rectangular kuih often are purple/brown/green with white layers below/top). I am not a fan of wajik (the dark brown glutinous rice in rectangular shape at the back) but my mom said they made them, just right!

Getas-getas has the chewy effect of the glutinous flour and so sedap! Kuih Dadar (looked like green spring roll ) is totally moist inside and outside, the thin crepe-like skin is so moist and yummy! The sweet dessicated coconut is perfect.The Tepung Gomak also has the chewy effect of the Glutinous flour which I love playing gentle tug of war with.. masked by the generous green bean flour (we often called people who put too much talc/powder on their face as "Tepung Gomak" *lol).The talam, the marriage of sweet and saltish savouriness,Mmm...yummilicious! And as for the taste, the colourful kuih are all not too sweet, perfect for my tastebuds. Mmmm.... kinda rekindle those moments when I was with nenek (granny) and she was making the Malay kuih by hand. And I was helping her by eating them right out of the oven, pots etc..hehehe...especially the melt-in-the mouth Bahulu!

What can I say, whenever I miss my imaginary kampong family, I shall come over here to reminisce those good old "Makan" time...

In a bustling lil town in Bishan,there stood a little Malay stall.They start as early as 7.30am daily and most of the food will run out by ten in the morning daily.By 11am, they packed everything and by lunchtime, its officially close. The queue of people has been forming continuously since 7.30am. The two ladies who managed the stalls are busy preparing and serving the customers non-stop.But admist all that, they never stop smiling and converse happily with their customers. I watched their customers patiently queing up for their favourite Malay breakfast.

When I first heard about their stall, I was shocked at their unbelievably cheap prices. Daily entries such as Mee Siam, Mee Rebus, Mee Soto, Lontong and Gado-gado (saturday,sunday only) for only $2?! Are you kidding me? And then upon hearing the cheap prices, my mind started wondering off to....skimpy ingredients and mini proportioned servings...

But I was pleasantly surprised, when all proportions are quite generous (both eating in and take-aways) and the food are yummy especially their star-studded Mee Siam (rated 5 out of 5 by insing.com editors) and Mee Rebus. And I can taste the freshness of the ingredients especially the vegetables. You can hear the healthy crunching sound as I chewed upon the beansprouts in Mee Soto, vegetables in the lontong and especially the bright green long beans in the sambal goreng dish.

I saw the Malay "kuih"s (savoury or sweet traditional Malay pastries and snacks)being displayed.The sardine curry puffs were gone within an hour.So come early to prevent any disappointment!

I looked at the row of other stalls.There are some prominent stalls with Makansutra and other TV shows with certificates proudly displayed.But they are not halal. But I can safely say most of the stalls here are focussing on the "healthy" side. No wonder, the people who are queing up are mostly in their "exercise-attire".

And this stall kick it up a notch with their good neighbours by serving some of the healthy version of Malay food and trust me, they are beyond yummy.If you don't believe me, try their Mee Siam, Mee Rebus and some say Gado-gado!

They also serve Malay rice with some popular dishes like Asam Pedas ikan Pari( sting ray in sourish tamarind gravy), ikan belado (fried mackerel in dollops of chillies), sambal goreng (stirfried vegetable and tempeh in sambal/chilli paste), chicken/meat rendang (Indonesian dry slow stew),stirfired bittergourd,eggplant stirfried in sambal/sweet chilli paste etc...

What I like is the freshness of the sweet sambal, the ikan belado, the ikan pari asam pedas, rendang,sambal goreng and especially the stirfried bittergourd....it reminded of my childhood moments when me and late granny were eating in the kitchen.They tasted as good and as nostalgic as that moment!

Mmmmm...I am tempted to order as I heard stories from the customers queing up (but my tummy can only expand as much) They were chatting happily telling me their favourite food from this stall and guess what? 90% of their customers are Chinese! In between,there were stories of their life too... It was one of my happy moments watching the customers queing up happy ,being served by happy people and leaving the stall with smiles on their faces.

But of course, there were customers who left empty-handed when they reached after 10.30am...They grunt and complaint a bit but the staff always smile no matter what.I will give them a 5 star customer service award badge, if I have one.

Good food, good prices and good customer service....all these in a small Malay stall in a neighbouring food centre in Bishan. Where else can you find such a fantabulous combo?

Singapore: Party with Healthy Cupcakes n brownies

I have a sweet tooth but not that "razor-sharp" sugarcaney sweetness, more of a milky, savoury sweet tooth.

So I seldom picked upon cupcakes, brownies and such... unless there is a very GOOD reason for celebration to spike my sugar level to that party awesomeness.

Anyway, after a life-changing, mind-intensive, action-packed, gruelling, intensified, emotional break-through...all of us...need to let our hair down (in my case, scarf down) and celebrate wildly! Woohoo!

And what better ways than to increase your party energy .....than these awesome gorgeousness?? They spell out F-U-N and highlight the colours of LIFE in which we should always celebrate....
And behind these brands are super-awesome women who stand tall, determined, motivated, passionate, like-minded, super achievers who have gone thru the hard knocks in Life University.
Just the right role models to look up to after these graduations....

This was the second time, I have tasted the brownies. On first try, it was heaven...first impressions always last...It's a Melt-in-the mouth experience. The chocolatey taste and the softness of the warm brownies...Ooh la la.

Sorry about the cupcakes...I only got one shot. The second one came too late because by the time, I got there, its gone....

As for the cupcakes...they were chocolatey as well but as you bite them, the vibrant pinkish softness of the cupcakes just hugs you...and won't let go.

Singapore-My favorite Indian Mee Siam...

To be in the mood for Mee Siam, you have to be in the mood for romance...Food Romance ,that is.

Mee Siam simply described as rice vermicelli in sourish sweet gravy with slices of beancurd and fish cakes(?) and hard boiled egg and lime. It combines...the sourish taste of tamarind, sweetness of sugar, saltishness of tauchu..savoury goodness of prawns and......so for u to have the courage to devour it at one go, to appreciate the many flavours in their "happy" state, u have to have an "open-minded" tongue...and love for fusion intermingling food romance.

I fancy Mee Siam in which its beehoon has been soften first (thru pre-cooked/boiled/blanched) before ducking them in a pool of gravy goodness.

The difference between Malay and Indian Mee Siam are many factors but one crucial point is the presence of coconut milk. One look and you can detect its flowing "milky "ways in the gravy.

But this time, I am very intrigued. As u know, Little India is one of my favourite crawls for food adventures.New stalls are always popping in and out thus creates curiosity and hunger in this blogger. And one of such place is the Tekka market food centre at Little India MRT station.

One day as I was immersing in my favourite Indian green bean dessert, I looked at this brightly lit stall. There seems to be a fuss amongst the customers. Normally, people will quietly eat their breakfast from various Indian breakfast stalls before rushing off to work. But this time, they seem to be a nonstop flow of customers buzzing around this stall.

As I eavesdropped upon this two men chatting over their excitement over this new stall, I overheard that the owner of the stall is the son of one famous Rojak manufacturer in Singapore.

I peeked at his colourful Mee Siam. Hmm, its calling out my name...it looks YUMMY!

And as I passed by, his food display is interestingly unique. He uses basket instead of the typical plastic, or metallic pots or even ceramic plates. And he made them look good!

I am easily aroused by the look of such handsome food.

I sat at a nearby chair and watched him silently. Orders kept on pouring in the wee hours of the morning. His hands are busily multitasking the hot and the cold ingredients.

He looked like a pro.

And then when finally, he has a chance to rest for a few minutes, its my time to pounce on him with my curiosity: Questioning time!

The owner is a 28 year old. He was very friendly and open about his personal business journey from the hard knocks University of life. But he was adamant to be successful this time. He was very passionate in describing his cooking and food. He was even open to reveal his secret ingredients. Hmm...

Everyday, he wakes up as early as 3 am to prepare for the food. He is one of the few who actually opens their stall as early as 6.30am.

He may looked very young but he is very determined to fulfil his destiny of success. He went thru various challenges and he is fortunate to have his loving wife, kids and parents by his side giving their endless support.

Oh,fyi...He does catering, events and deliveries too.

As we chat more,I cannot wait any longer. As he talked about the fresh ingredients in his Mee Siam,I was drooling buckets.I had to keep wiping them away with the tissues, discreetly. Then,I ordered one bowl of Mee Siam.

As I watched him does his "thing"...I can sense his love for his food. Every ingredient, is carefully prepared . He whipped up the Mee Siam within mere minutes. There were many colourful items. I even thought one of them looked like honey stars cereals from afar.

As he served me the hot and piping freshness....
I can smell the sourish tangy gravy. Mmmm.....
I twirl the noodles and immediately put them into my mouth...
Aaah.....

The sourish, sweet and slightly saltishness of the taucho and fresh gerago prawns can be tasted almost immediately. You know that he is being very generous in this gravy goodness.

The noodles are soft. I was in a hurry that I had forgotten to squeeze the lime.I squeezed it and close my eyes..aaah....the fresh scent of squeezed lime.

I mixed them all up again....and there is a much better flavour.

It was so good, I was in my own element, my own world.
I had my fair share of tasting various Indian Mee Siam from all parts of Singapore.

And I have to say....

My tongue and tummy verdict:
If u think Waterloo Rojak's Mee Siam is grade A, then this must be A Star...

If you think Geylang no.1 rojak 's Mee Siam is A, then this must be A star star.
All I can say is that...this is tops in my book for now.

I continued slurping the gorgeous Mee Siam...without caring about how messy my shirt looked like to the public nor the stains on my lips...

Aaah...this is so good...u have to taste it to believe it.

I eat it slow and steady...savouring every mouthful of gravy goodness.
Everything seems perfect.

Aah...this is one of the reason why I love to be a food blogger.

When I first heard about the name.. I was laughing my tummy off. I felt ticklish thinking that the food name was associated with the Malay word- "Mandi" which means -bathe/take a shower. I was imagining the rice to be soaked in gravy goodness but it was nothing like what I had imagined. *LOL

My first encounter with Mandi rice is during my recent Hajj Pilgrimage in 2011.

I was getting restless during one of the rainy weekends because I need to uncover more food of LOVE to motivate my tastebuds further in wanting to feel the excitement of food curiosity again.

And so I chanced upon Anna's Café. It was situated in PKMS building where I used to have religious classes during my teens. And today I was here for my new hifz class at darulhuffaz.sg. But I noticed in the past decades..that the stalls in this location kept on changing that I lost count of their specialities.

But today, as I was peering into this new place (Cos I have not been here for years) a man smiled at me asking ...do u wanna try Nasi Mandi? I was stunned because I never heard that there is Nasi Mandi here (I have not updated my food directory in years). And true enough, I found out that they have just opened their second branch (here).And my lucky day was their second day in operation.

I was excited. I had a very good impression of the Nasi Mandi in Saudi Arabia. I can even remember the aromas of the hot and piping tender meats and its flavourful rice.

And so my expectations were quite high.

As they served me in a huge plate (do note they are very generous in their servings) which cost only $6.50 but can feed 2-3 persons at one time, I was in awe. The food looked so good, its calling my name.

And as I savour it, it was heavenly-yummy. Cooked with lots and loads of LOVE.

The rice is tasty...flavourful, cooked with spices (not spicy at all) and raisins with hints Saffron. The meat is so tender, succulent and juicy that I am so in LOVE. There were dips and sauces (yogurt too) that came with the rice. I also get to taste the chicken meat. Juicy ,grilled and marinated to perfection.

And then I decided to try their chicken kebab. It was so DELISH-the ingredients harmonise so well that it rekindled my TURKEY experience-savouring street food at the stroke of midnite. They even have a homemade somewhat sourish mayo to be eaten with the fries and the kebab, just like the "PATAT" in the Netherlands.

How can I not call this -the "FOOD of LOVE" when the food right in front of me, rekindled all my senses and especially my LOVE in these amazing countries.

And as I read the Malay newspaper article (pasted there) on their review of this stall in Bedok Corner.. I then understood why the owner has a "unique recipe" that totally blew me over and worked so well for the locals here... It was because the owner was born and bred in Mecca and his parents have a catering business there. And so he already has the expertise and experience of cooking such Meditteranean cuisine because its in his blood! *smiles

I did have a chance to talk to the owner. A friendly chap who can make his customers felt so at home.

So if you want to have a taste of the Yemen cuisine, come on down with your loved ones. Don't come alone because the food is definitely huge for 1 person!

This is one of the foods that I can happily say-
My food of LOVE!

Feel the love in every grain of the rice and every morsel that you put in your mouth. It's definitely worth your trip!

Singapore-Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak

Mizrea, the owner of this Nasi Lemak stall has one same dream as me: To be Millionaires. And so it was fateful that we actually met during one of The Millionaire Mind Intensive event , last November, in Singapore.

And as I got to know her upclose and personal. I found many similarities. And one of them is the passion to travel the world. Mizrea was a SIA stewardess before she actually took over this Nasi Lemak stall from her mother. So she had a vast experience and knowledge on local and world food.

Even though she was the daughter of the owner, she is not at all bossy. In fact, she humbled herself by learning the ropes from the basic beginning. Starting everything from ground zero, as an assistant, in preparing the fresh ingredients and working her way up to cooking everything according to her mom's original recipe.

As we laughed and chatted more, I found out that the famous International Nasi Lemak (who used to be opposite of her stall, now way off in front row) was actually related to her... The stall belonged to her step-grandmother.

Hmm... fascinating.

And then she prepared a sumptuous Nasi Lemak feast for me and my makan-kaki (foodies). They have many arrays of fried fritters to go along with my favourite nasi lemak from.. fish cakes, to potato cakes (bergedil) to sambal sotong (chilli squid) to normal favorites like fried chicken wings, hotdogs, anchovies and more.

They are also crowned by some media as the top ten Nasi Lemak in Singapore.And even received thumbs-ups from Makansutra.

After the recent refurbishment, the stalls in Changi Village Food Centre has all changed places. And thru balloting, Mizrea seemed to have won FIRST PRIZE! She got the stall in which International Nasi Lemak used to be. And her Nasi Lemak 's popularity seems to be increasing every day eversince the Food Centre re-opens.

I was fascinated by the fact that her nasi lemak is one of those that can last very long, more than few hours and it will not turn bad at all. I was fortunate enough to hold an event recently and it lasted for more than 6 hours and the rice stayed great thru out. And of course, Mizrea was open enough to tell us the secret in which I shall not revealed. *chuckles (One of the many perks of being a food blogger..I learnt so many tip and tricks of cooking that I can actually compile a book on the SECRETS of the Singapore Halal Food Hawkers hehe!)

And the best part is that their stall is open 24 hours a day. Woohoo!!

Mizrea was very particular about quality and ensure that the food is always good thruout that 24 hours. Well, so far the business has been so good, there are no leftovers in any particular hour!

Anyway, the rice is fragrant and its not sticking to one another. The sambal is my favorite. So shiok and sweet! Mmm...

Singapore: AlHambra Satay's Mee Rebus (Geylang)

As usual, today I am on a morning prowl for some good Halal food. I was here in the afternoon, around 4pm. Most stalls were already packed and closed. I sniffed , spied and tiptoed in and around the stalls that were still open.

I stood in front of this stall with its flashy green name banner read: Al Hambra satay.

I looked inside and see 2 gentleman grilling skewers and endless skewers of satay.

I looked at the marinated satay. They looked so GOOD! (Rule Number 1 for Putri-Visual must always be good! Food must always looked good, either raw or cooked before it can enticed me to taste them)

As I scrutinise their menu on the stall, I noticed the name- Mee Rebus Tetel.

Ok,what is Mee Rebus?
Wiki says....
"The dish is made of yellow egg noodles, which are also used in Hokkien mee, with a spicy slightly sweet curry-like gravy. The gravy is made from potatoes, curry powder, water, salted soybeans, dried shrimps, and peanuts. The dish is garnished with a hard boiled egg, calamansi limes, spring onions, Chinese celery, green chillies, fried firm tofu (tau kwa), fried shallots and bean sprouts. Some eateries serve it with beef, though rarely found in hawker centres, or add dark soy sauce to the noodles when served. The dish also goes well with satay..."

And the word that litted up my eyes is "TETEL".

Tetel (pronouced as -"tay-tail")is a Malay word for the beefy parts of the cow in which is considered spare parts. This includes the fats, the "muscle"ly tendons, tongue, tripe, cheeks and whatever the stall owner felt like throwing...or nicely put...give for free...)

I never grew up liking Mee Rebus.Because to me, it is not "Carnivorous" enough.Normally, people do not add meat in it.And I'm a meat lover.

A kilogram of "tetel" in the market normally cost about $5. And to tenderise it will take some time...few hours.

Anyway, TETEL in different markets meant different things.

In Tekka market (Little India), it meant tough tendons..but in Geylang (in some stalls), it meant spare parts of the cow. So I normally get my "marketing" for TETEL done at my favourite Tekka market stall- Joe's Butcher.

Anyway, today we are not gonna be talking about cooking the tendons.

But do you know? Originally, Mee Rebus used "tetelan" (plural form)beefy tendon meat for that meaty, robust flavours in the gravy or "Udang Gerago" (tiny fresh prawns often used in Belacan making). Old timers will know. Ask your grandmas and grandpas...

My mother is one of those "oldy goody" cook who always cook Mee Rebus with these "tetel" only after she had moved away from her birth country.Suddenly she craved for childhood food like Mee Rebus and all that and do a myriad versions of various kampung food when she is back here. I am often pampered when she is back here from the Netherlands. For sure, I will be round and plumpy! *grins.

Ok, so the word "Tetel" ignite some curiousity in me. Because not many Mee Rebus recipe still uses that.. Because we are from multi-racial community. The Chinese LOVES our Mee Rebus and to respect their restrictions of beef in their diet (because some Buddhist do not eat beef)...some cooks remove it completely from the ingredients while some unique Mee Rebus substituted beef with mutton.

And its name- Alhambra Satay enticed me further to taste their food.

Alhambra is a Satay brand name that is so popular in the olden days in the Satay Club (now no longer exists). I heard it, then moved to Esplanade and then I remembered seeing the glorious brand at the flyer, and now its here? (OR has it always been here, hiding its old past glorys?)

Pardon my long-windedness. I have frozen my blogging ability ever since I left for my solo world tour. So its being thawed slowly but gradually.

And so I ordered the Mee Rebus special with "tetel" (inclusive of 4 pieces of random satay-not specified) which costs about $4.50.

Due to weekends, the stall was exceptionally busy and the young girl,who served us, seems too busy to answer any of my queries. Oh well, I shall "disturb" her some other day. I do have many questions to ask about the existence of this unique stall with a mega brand name.

The Mee Rebus was prepared soon enough and was handed over to me. I sniffed at it... all the way to my seat. Luckily, my mom, the experienced Cook and Mee Rebus enthusiast was there to lend her taste buds too.

There was something unique about its gravy smell. I thought it came from the 4 pieces of skewered satay meat and satay sauce but it came directly from the Mee Rebus gravy.

It smelled SO GOOD! The odour of Charcoal grilled Mee Rebus gravy...Where can you find that, in Singapore?? I noticed, there was also a quartered raw Tomato piece and large chunks of tahu (soya bean tofu)cut in big pieces and a whole calamansi lime.

I tasted it immediately. Woohoo!It is semi-thick with peanutty taste and flavours.Best part is...It's not sweet! Me and mom do not fancy very sweet Mee Rebus gravy (which was often served to us by 80% of the Mee Rebus stalls in Singapore.YIKES!).

I'm not saying that sweetness is not good but there must be a limit. Sugary taste can musk the original taste. I do not fancy that. I love Mee Rebus for its most authentic flavours and this is one of them!!

And the tetel is not from spare parts but just tendons which has been cooked long enough till it tenderise to perfection, yet has some chewy texture which I like. (So no worries, grandpa!).

Overall I find that the servings are quite generous for one person (or have my tummy shrunk?).The satays are flavourful but I preferred it to be crispy (garing) at the sides. They have given me the beef and chicken satays. But I can "waved" that unsatisfactory satay-taste aside for now because I am not here to judge their satay, today. That itself will be another story...on another day.

So if you are craving for some unique authentic Mee Rebus (with meaty beefy flavours), do come on down and enjoy theirs!

Jalan Kayu: Canadian Pizza Dine-In

The first time I heard about Canadian Pizza's dine-in, I was expecting it to be like any pizza parlour joints...just like the Big names of Pizza Hut, Dominos, Oishi etc.I don't find anything unique about it. To me, Pizzas are strongly linked to delivery. And being in a pizza parlour means, you have more time to eat it there. I'm not so big into pizza but Canadian Pizza has always been in my tender heart during my student days. It is one of the pioneer brands that is so generous in providing 2 pizzas for the price of one. And I have always liked its Hawaiian flavour.

Today,I embraced Mr Karim's invitation to visit one of his outlets. Mr Karim's big heartedness and his generosity in wanting to help strangers won me over.( That shall be another story, to be told...on another day...)

Anyway, I arrived one night, during its cold drizzling moment. I arrived in its location within minutes from the nearest bus stop. My foodie crew has not arrived yet.

I took a moment to inspect its vicinity. I love to be in the moment when no one has arrived yet. A small cosy restaurant. Hmm...

If you are in a hurry, you might have missed its charming brightly litted restaurant because its name is not that prominent.

Anyway as soon as the foodie crew has arrived, we soon put out tongues to the test. We asked their signature dishes and beverages.

First start was the appetizer. The bruschetta looked so simple but yet,this is one of my favourite. Very savoury and mild garlicky presence can be tasted. I like!

Second was the Smoked Salmon Salad. Refreshing.

Next was the air-flown Rib eye cooked to Medium doneness. I like the tender texture of the meat. I would prefer the black pepper sauce to be slightly fiery than its current mild nature.

After that, the Peri-Peri Chicken came in. I would say the taste was in between.If in Nandos, I would say,its probably the lowest spicyness. But might be slightly fiery for kids,though.

Sage sausage was very unique. They looked so beautifully orchestrated in its spiral form. Adults might like the strong taste and smell of sage but it might turn off the tastebuds of some kids.

Next was the Lamb shank. Very tender, mild in taste.It reminded me of Secret Recipe's flavours.

Super Stacker burger totally drive me crazy. It's so HUGE!The biggest meat patty that I have ever seen. So much so it looked more like a burger patty ball with onion rings decorating the layers.If you ever got sick of the Whopper,this is the one to go for,next.

A word of caution though: The meats are drenched in dollops of barbecue sauce.Unless, you are a fan of barbecue sauce and burger,then this is the one for you to feed those midnite cravings in macho soccer watching meetups and gatherings.

We also ordered the Hawaiian Supreme and the Xmas special Pizza with turkey ham as the main fillings.Not bad.

Overall,I like the tender Steak and the savoury Bruschetta.

I also love the fact that Mr Karim and his staff made the whole eating experience,a very enjoyable and fun experience. Very attentive and helpful staff awaited our order and serve them efficiently.

Mr Karim has a very big dream in wanting to make his restaurant be filled with happy and joyous families and friends who can have a wide varieties of menu...all under one roof.

Singapore Halal Culinary Federation Official launch...

I have a dream. My dream is that one day,the world shall embrace Halal food.

Today, I am honoured to be invited to witness ....a part of this dream come true.

I was invited by Mr Muhd Kamal also professionally known as Kamal Fondueman, the President of Singapore Halal Culinary Federation (SHCF).The Singapore Halal Culinary Federation is celebrating the official launch of their organization on Monday, 8 October 2012...which is today.

I saw many glowing presence of Celebrities such Chef Bob, Asmah Laili, BJ Kadir, Rahimah Rahim and there were also many Celebrities from abroad. One of them is the well-known Chef Zam beautifully dressed in baju kurung.

I heard with much interest about their future plans such as the first ever premier HALAL Hybrid-Community kitchen cum culinary art studio and private dining set up between a food business group, SHCF and various self help welfare bodies.

I listen intently (nearly teary eyed cos Halal is close to my heart) as they said out their vision mission, cause and intentions:

"SHCF will be extending professional expertise and support in setting it up and managing the wholesome experience; with the culinary course held at the kitchen, we aim to empower underprivileged families, breast cancer patients and survivors (AIn Society beneficiaries). We also wish to pave career paths for the children of these families by educating them through structured culinary programs, increasing their employability and giving them a ray of hope in their life.

As for the community kitchen, these feature will increase the confidence of many micro home based food service provider to operate from a licensed yet certified industrially set up kitchen, with the high start up cost of a new food service set up or a central kitchen, many potentials food-terpreneurs found this wanting, this set up will also act as their incubator(training ground) engagement with SHCF, managing real time kitchen or restaurant operation and offering their ready clients the much needed quality assurance. The added advantage of this feature is that it’s user friendly and can be exercised through its flexible time allocation...."

I've personally met up and chat with Ms Quek Jing Yan from Beautiful People organisation (one of those organisations which SHCF sponsors) who strive to coach and mentor young ladies from various homes to manifest their dreams. She told me with full passion about her love to help this kids. I applaud her big heart full of unconditional love,patience and determination to work with these gorgeous kids. She selflessly work with them,believing in them and somehow she too reap the benefits. She told me that not only the kids learn from her and the volunteers but in return,she learnt more from them as well especially on life challenges:upbringing and families.(Jing Yan,I know U can do it!May all your dreams come true!)

I nearly stand up and did my "jiggetyjaggety dance" when I heard that they will be producing a gourmet cookbook whereby the favourite gourmet recipes of the world will be made Halal. Woohoo! I would love to see how they substitute non halal ingredients with halal food ingredients. Fantabulous project!

And of course,I've tasted the fresh buffet offerings from Marina Mandarin Singapore's Halal kitchen managed by World renowned Global chef:Chef Tony Khoo. Simply Irresistible! And even get to browse his marvelous book in which Chef Tony Khoo has also agreed to donate all sales proceed of his premier book for charitable causes. *applause please for these generous n kind souls

Fyi-The Singapore Halal Culinary Federation (SHCF) is a Non Profit organization consisting of culinary and service professional members with a purpose to educate the public on the dynamism of Halal food and to teach and involve Food Service Providers on service quality and best practices. The federation is affiliated to the World Association of Chefs Society (WACS), the Singapore Chefs Association (SCA), the Singapore Pastry Alliance (SPA) and the Singapore Junior Chefs Club (SJCC)..and their chairman, Chef Akber Ali has just presented ‘Halal Food for a Sustainable Future’ as an invited keynote speaker at the recent WACS World Congress in Daejeon, Korea from 1 - 5 May 2012.

I am so proud of them...as fellow muslim, and Singaporean...they are on the right path in creating awareness and educate the public on Halal food and ways to make them yummilicious. I'm just goofing around with the Sony handycam...trying out the quality...
Not using MAC cos the vid need conversions etc.
So I'm left with Windows Live Movie Maker.
But then, some shots are not compatible, got error...
Trying my best not to pull my hair out..

Editing really need patience. And I'm not as patient as I used to when I was a student..doing animation with softwares like Macromedia etc...
(there was one crazy project-to think that I spend 2 weeks just to make an animation on the balls bouncing and rotating-the end product is just a 30 seconds animation vid. YIKES!)

The truth-Revealed...

Ok, i guess, i have replied to most of the emails and letters and noticed some very repetitive questions.

So to include everyone else in the curiousity world, i answer these here...

At first, i was battling whether I should or should not reveal...cos of varied reasons and mainly what will "everyone"s perception of me, be? Then I thought...long and hard and I thought-So what? What they think of me, is none of my business!
I have to let go of this dream, and to let go, i have to let go what's bottling inside.
I wanna let God take over...(its not easy doing this alone)

So I hope you get to see this "raw" part of me ...
(which I wrote...mostly in tears...) and im not sure whether this is the right place (www.theworldisinyourmind.com seems more appropriate)...

Ok shoot....

Why did you travel around the world on ur own?
It was not intended that way.
I imagined my own crew like minded, integrity, positive, fun and have the same dreams as me or at least on the same path...to be with me every step of the way...

But the 2 years (or more) of going thru the grueling path of struggle and facing many people of various productions locally and internationally, (and not forgetting many muslims and halal companies) i began to grow tired. All talk and no work makes me dull,exhausted,bittered and ....very,very bored.And my passionate enthusiasm is slowly evaporating...

I thought my ticket to the world is by having my own show. I thought that will open up the possibility of my dream being fulfilled.I see myself socialising happily with people of myriad ethnicity and cultures-1st,2nd or 3 rd world countries...being with people of the world in tears n in joy...and to make it more believable-i imagined myself shaking hands with Bourdain, Ian Wright, Andrew Zimmern, Samantha Brown....etc...

But then, after going thru a series of unsuccessful "discussions" and many people telling me:-all kinds of excuses:

We believe in you and your dreams but....

The audience are not ready for you.
We don't have confidence in you.
you are not good enough
We do not want to encourage the lifestyle of gluttony.
But you are a girl, a Muslim....
You are all covered up...
Nobody knows you...
The world of tv (fame) will crush/kill you..
And many more....

And sometimes, my ideas were taken and used without my knowledge, but it's ok....I believe ideas are meant to be shared and inspire creativity. And if u give it to others unconditionally (in this case, let go n forgive them) insyaAllah God will replace them with a much better idea..(Like how Walt Disney was "betrayed" in his first cartoon character).

Side note: I have negotiated in many ways than one.I even asked to be included in any role-even from the lowest role or behind the curtains or even be the assistant(make coffee or something) and i even proposed "partnerships n collaborations" with people of same interests ...as long as I learnt something in this tv production" path so that I can move forward in manifesting my dream....but everyone said no.

Then I reflected....the blessings in every experience.
It was not meant to be. I shouldn't have lowered my standards nor my expectations. I should be who I am. Yes! I am different.(and like what Katy Perry said-Thank you for believing in my weirdness!I thank all fans n readers for the same reason.)

If they cannot accept me for who I am then, I shall knock another door, and the next till....someone does....meanwhile, i should never degrade myself for others. (have u read about Sylvester Stallone and Colonel Sanders (KFC founder) stories?? How many "doors" did they knock before someone believes and gives them a chance?)

Of course all these "No-s" hit me hard and bloody...but....
My vision,my dreams are the only one that keeps me sane right now, if u only knew what im going thru...

And then, one day it hit me....

I am enough!
I have all that i need to travel the world, so why don't I just do it?
So what if no one believes you can do it? So what if they think you are not worthy? So what if they think, you are not good enough?(some of the world's famous n successful people are not the best in their fields but because they believe in themselves when no one does) But I...absolutely believes-I can do it...and i will do it!

I set my intentions with God, tell my family and go.
Alhamdulillah God has given me abundance in the shortest time possible and best of all ....time is on my side...its now or never...

So with my family blessings, i packed my bag n left.
Never looked back and just move forward...

How do u feel at first?
Of course, i felt scared....but i left everything in God's hands...and be positive and open.

So did u ever regret doing it?
No, I have no regretted anything...
Good or bad,everything has a blessing and a lesson to be learnt.

What is one of the most important thing that U have ever learnt?
I learnt that whatever I'm facing and attract actually depends on what and how I'm feeling inside....and my subconscious beliefs..either limiting or not...plays a major role. So I have to learn to get to know myself upclose and personal....be my own bestest friend...and trust God in everything.

No one sponsored you or paid u for ur travelling expenses, Have you ever thought about the money U have spent on travelling and that you might never get it back?
This is my passion. It's my own investment on my own self and net-worth.
The experiences that I have gained are definitely priceless. Im doing it not because i can get something in return but Im doing it because this is me.It makes me happy.And i hope to contribute to the world (big or small) by sharing whatever that i have learnt n experience.

If given the chance again, i will do it again and again and again.....This is what I love . I am also doing it because i believe anything is possible. And I am definitely worth it!(every penny, every experience, every tears, every blood n pain n every joy n friendships n every love , every abundance, every emotions felt, everything!!!!)

I am definitely worthy of my dreams!

Side note:
For every No-s that I received, before I depart from every meetups/discussion or whatever...
the funny thing is, each and everyone of them said with conviction-
We know U r gonna make it big...but not now...
( i thought it was a polite way of saying-although U suck, don't stop dreaming.but then, i watched Katy Perry movie (unplanned really) n wonder why did the big guys keep her in their record company "hostage" when they knew she is gonna be a mega star?Why didnt they help her or if they don't know how ...at least help her by introducing her to others who can help her fulfil her dreams?hmm...
And somehow, I felt the same way she did....and begin to understand it now...)

So, what's next?
I'm gonna let go and trust...
Everything shall be unfolded perfectly for me....InsyaAllah.

P.s:It was never about the money, fame or .....
My intentions are beyond my imaginations....
If only i can let u see what i see in my vision....n dreams....

The "PAYA" saga begins...

For someone who has stayed in Little India for years, I felt like a traitor when my tongue declared the no.1 paya ...was in Bukit timah area,years ago.

But then, thinking back, that was the first n only paya that I have ever tasted n (so pardon me )when I took that "virgin" attempt which resulted in my mind being blown away (literally).

But recently, that interest was soon rekindled upon my closest having umpteen cravings of Paya which resulted in me tagging along for the "feast"... trotting along, slipping in n out of every nook n cranny...of Little India.

What can I say,
"Little India, You are one of my favorite "playgrounds"in the whole wide world! "...

It's where...
I play hide and seek..

its where
My spirits freshen up...

its where
My soul dances ...
in the unexpected mazes..

its where my home is...

Cause that is where my heart is...

Ok having trouble blogging. Probably cos the pipe is clogged...by the zillion words of priceless experiences of the world tour.

If words have legs on their own, I will unleash them and let them seek their own peace n happyness. I let them go.

And if my imagination have hands, I bet by now, there are many creatives picture n videos on the YouTube. Sadly, it's all settling comfortably in the home drive.Ageing gracefully probably bearing ripen fruits by now.

There were many colourful experiences to share that I do not even know where to begin.

How about that pickpocket incident in Buenos Aires where I personally see a lady's hand groping my bag(hidden by her denim jacket) in a subway whereas her elderly mate distracted our attention by being unusually crazy?

Or the fact that I totally ditched Jack Links cos Biltong is the ultimate jerk-y?

Or that i foolishly blurted out loud that Evita Peron looked like she was eating burger in one of the tallest mural I've ever seen...when she was actually holding the mic ....

Or remnants of great wall was that it stink like pee?

Or the fact that I nearly hugged a dog that looked like a bear in one of the most awesome view overlooking the Yamdrok lake?

Or whispering sweet nothings to a Yak which I'm gonna ride and later found out that my lunch was set on one of its distant relative?

Or that melt-in-the-mouth tuna curry which consoles my departing soul as I was about to leave Maldives?

Or the fact that my Agra 's guide was also Bill Clinton's guide when he was there?

Or probably the wedding reception in Cape Town that enable me to make a connection with one of Nelson Mandela's dinner guest n basked in his experiences?

Or that gorgeous attorney flying to Dubai who sat beside me who turned out to be Maradona's childhood friend?

Or the fact that I remember nothing at all...

When all blood, sweat n tears have been spent thru out the immigrations' interrogations, internationally?

And all the upsets, my tummy gets... after consuming those "suspicious-looking" food that actually set my tongue on fire , jiggling in delight n pleasure in every bite?

Hmm....

Ok.

Wait a minute.

Was it all just a dream?

Ok.Go back to sleep.

Until the day, I learn to unleash these smashingly splendid memories....

Is this some kind of foodie nightmare?

New environment, more open yet it's class kinda stoop lower, more like a food court..
Probably I'm holding a grudge with the Filipino waiter who seems to have a bad day.
No smiles just impatient irritated gestures that's
already taken my appetite away.

I wonder whether Cinderella keep tabs on her service staff.
I think some r there for the sake of free food benefits.
There are many n they looked tough
But none is fast on their feet.

Do not change tables, hissed the usher.
The first manly impression at the entrance.
It quickly wiped me off my feet n the weird look on my face.
As if I'm some merry go round customer who change tables at every whim.

The food arrived 20 minutes late,
It's ok, we can wait, say my date.

The food appears untouched,very timidly
Stealing a glance at its new reality.
The cold kangkong salad stands aloof with its crunchiness
The marinated tempeh n tahu is soft yet slightly crunchy at its sides.
The fiery sambal spits it's leftover anger at my tongue for some revenge.
I sip on the bitter iced tea for some consolation but to no effect.
This Tea when I swallowed it, some remnants kinda rise up to my nose, reminds me of the smell of one of the kandang/caged animal space in the Mandai zoo.
The crumbly bits r just decoration to coverup this tender chicken imperfections
The quarter chicken seems too much for my meagre rice but to asked for more, is like getting a whiplash from the waiter, or probably the hassle of queuing up again just to order in the midst of my meal.
The staff seems to be engrossed in their own world. Unruly remarks spat in Indonesian accent in self defence after they left the customers they have just served.

The new boneless fish is a new addition to the menu.no more picking, no more mess just for the hassle free type of customer who hates wearing a bip.The avocado drink seems to be a popular hit among the patrons, young or old.

I bid farewell to them as my tears are holding up these waterfalls.
Not of enmity of bitter feud but definitely the spicy chilli has gotten into the sentimental me.
I vowed never to return this wretchedly place,
But then when the craving kicks in,
I found myself helpless at the addiction of this hunger game,
The taunting of its chilli paste kept beckoning ,
its evilish arms waving wildly,
With raspy shrieky voice calling
....out my name.

And so I took the liberty of finding it. Together with the Ipad(a newbie), I sniffed and searched and tasted various Satay yummies.

p.s:All these are experimental, Im just goofing around with new stuff n technology. Learning its new app n usage etc...If I look constipated (perhaps I am!haha!)forget that,just focus on the good-the food.These videos were shoot,editted n published on the same day (only by using IPAD3).It's hot n fresh!

I know Indonesia is a mecca for satay...cos I've tasted them in the villages before..Insya-Allah one day, I eat them all...i meant all over Indonesia..it's big place to cover.Hmm...
