Here is an amazing find. A 1981 Mercedes-Benz 240D with an actual documented 53,775 miles. This North Carolina beauty was purchased new from Scott Motor Co, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530 {No longer in business}.

The service history is shown in the original maintenance book through June, 2005 {51,189 miles}. At that time, the second owner who had admired this Mercedes 240D for years got a call from the senior first owner that he was ready to give up his car. Car Fax clearly shows these 2 owners. North Carolina’s state inspections along with detailed service records and receipts clearly document the actual miles and history of ownership. When purchased in June, 2005, the second owner spent $2,734.92 on a major service where all fluids, gaskets, hoses, belts were replaced. Brakes were replaced and even the brake fluid was flushed!

This was a very thorough service. Motor and transmission mounts were replaced in 2006, cost $446. The AC system has been converted to 134, and the original compressor and water pump have also been replaced.

This is the finest original Mercedes-Benz 240D. The paint is 99% original with absolutely no sign of rust, accident or damage ever. The entire interior is just flawless, and looks like a car with little or no use! The engine compartment is immaculate, including the hood insulation, and every nook and cranny is just perfect. Door jams, dash pad, wood, gauges, chrome, stainless trim, window felts, rubber gaskets, wheel covers, bumpers including the rubber covers are crisp. Window glass is crystal clear with a factory window tint. Original AM/FM radio, cassette player and power antennae are working properly. The cruise control works partially and is currently being checked. The tires have been replaced and are in almost new condition.

The spare tire is original (20 years old and surely should not be driven on very far) and has never been used. The original tool pouch is in the trunk with the original jack. All of the original owners books and manuals are with the car along with receipts, service history and inspection history. New Toyota FT-86 and Its ‘Special’ Color

When Toyota revealed on Tuesday the FT-86 concept, the spiritual successor to the Toyota AE86, a popular sport compact car of the 1980s, there was no question what color it would be.

“Sports cars have to be red, but we wanted a new red,” said Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer, according to AutoWeek. “So we came up with shoujyouhi red, the traditional red color of a Japanese monkey’s backside.”

Quite a cheeky move, to quote a colleague at The Times. And one that others on the staff could get behind.

The concept, itself, should provide some punch to Toyota’s lineup, which its new president, Akio Toyoda, recently criticized for lacking excitement. “Surely it is us — the automakers — who have abandoned our passion for cars,” Mr. Toyoda said, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Reinventing the AE86 should help. Over the past 10 years, there has been renewed interest in the small rear-wheel drive compact among young import enthusiasts. Designed by Toyota’s ED2 studio in France, the FT-86 is expected to share many of the same sporty traits. The concept is lightweight and has a low center of gravity. It is also rear-wheel drive.

The FT-86 is a joint venture with Fuji Heavy Industries and will come fitted with a Subaru 2-liter boxer engine. The concept will make its debut at the Tokyo auto show later this month.
