The company positions itself as an airline that does things differently, and its tagline reflects that ethos:

A Breath of Fresh Airline

The genius of this tagline lies in the implied understanding that everyone hates airlines. Airlines are seen as stuffy and stiff, and this tagline directly addresses and erases that stereotype. Brilliant.

Like the Internet, Only...

There’s this magazine called The Printed Blog. It is, in its own words, a collection of “The best of the web, picked by editors you know and love, delivered to you in a beautiful print magazine for only $24 a year.”

Kind of a neat idea, right? But the best part is their tagline:

It’s pronounced like “fun” without the -n.

When I was driving around near my sister’s place in Seattle a couple months ago, I saw what is possibly the greatest restaurant name ever. It’s a Vietnamese restaurant called…

What the Pho!

Here’s the restaurant’s website.

Pot Holder

I love it when a word or phrase can have entirely different meanings depending on how you look at it. And while I don’t endorse illegal drug use, “pot holder” is a great example of that it’s-all-about-perspective thing.

The little tag in the photo below has a clever little tagline, too:

The perfect way to handle all of your baked goods.

It’s a blog about the media industry. I really like its tagline:

Behind the Screens, Between the Lines

It tells you exactly what the blog is all about—reporting and interpreting what’s going on int he media world. Homer has been kidnapped by Ukrainian mobsters and is being held captive in Springfield’s “Little Ukraine” district.

Together we’ll go far.

I’m a Wells Fargo customer and have probably heard this a bunch of times. But today, a few seconds after I heard it, it hit me.

But it’s still good. It comes from an article on Yahoo Health called The 7 Laws of Leanness. One of the 7 “laws” is “Lean people watch less TV.” The opening line to that section reads

Instead of calling [TV] the boob tube, maybe we should call it the man-boob tube.

1. While I was driving on the backroads of the Utah/Wyoming border a few days ago, I saw a big dumpster in front of someone’s house as they were renovating. The name of the dumpster company? Humpty Dumpster.

In one part, the author is talking about the range of riders that fall within the “mountain biker” category:

These range from the Lycra-clad, smooth-shaven cross-country racers… all the way to the baggy-shorted, hairy-legged Freeriders who “session” on bikes with more suspension than an unruly high school student.

The man definitely has a unique way of saying things. Here’s one of my favorite passages, when he’s talking about his roller coaster ride of doing drugs and then trying to get clean (quitting cold turkey), only to do more drugs, and so on.

I recently read an article on TechDirt about how PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) snapped up the peta.xxx domain name and plans to use it for an animal cruelness and pornography website. Yes, I’m serious.

Anyway, here’s how TechDirt opened the article:

Of all the entities looking to take advantage of the brand (dare I say, “spanking?”) new .xxx TLD, I would imagine that most of us would have put PETA somewhere toward the bottom of the list.

Brand spanking new porn site, eh?

Fishermen Reeling

Ok, so this is kind of corny and has probably been used a billion times before, but it’s still good.

This is a screenshot of one of the news items on Yahoo’s front page:

Feeling the Heat from a Blistering Newspaper Article

This is the opening sentence from a blog post on TechFlash:

Feeling the heat from a blistering newspaper article that quoted Amazon.com workers complaining about excessive heat inside a Pennsylvania warehouse, Amazon has distributed bandanas and cooling vests to cool off the workers.

Great wordplay.
