Printing firm will be the Preferred Printing Supplier to the PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS, offering each series a special contingency award at end of season

HAMILTON, ONTARIO (May 16, 2012) – The Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series is pleased to welcome Aulward Graphics as the Preferred Printing Supplier to the three drag race series.

“We are pleased and welcome Aulward to our series,” said Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations of all three series. “This is a great addition to the continued growth of our race series.”

Mehlenbacher added that Aulward will be instrumental in providing the opportunity to promote and market the three racing series with its drivers, venues, and events.

Aulward will be presenting a $1000 award to a competitor from the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS at the annual champions’ banquet. This award will be presented on a random basis, and each team that competes and displays the Aulward Graphics decal on their vehicle for 2012 is eligible.

PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS open season this weekend

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 16, 2012) – It started with a small group of dedicated racers who believed in an idea, and this idea has grown and prospered.

With the organization of the Pro Modified Racing Association late in 2004, the first event was held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park during the May holiday weekend in 2005. Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, Ontario, won the final round of that first race over Al Billes of Barrie, Ontario.

And since that night eight years ago, the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at Cayuga has traditionally opened the PMRA season. For 2012 this tradition continues as the fast and popular Pro Modifieds take to the track May 18-20 for the first of seven PMRA race this season.

But the Pro Modifieds are only part of the show this year. Entering its fourth season is the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts. This series features Top Dragster cars and Top Sportsman cars which compete against each other, and the top eliminator in each meets up to determine an event winner. The Top Dragster of TJ Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario won that first event in May of 2009 over the Top Sportsman entry of Jeff Gable of Stratford, Ontario.

In 2011, the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series were complimented with the introduction of a third drag race series, the Pro Bike & Sled Series. This new series featured Pro Bikes and Pro Sleds in a racing manner similar to the Quick 32 Series, competing on a Sportsman ladder and dial-in procedures.

Winning the opener at Cayuga in 2011 in the PBSS presented by Wiseco Performance Products was the Pro Sled of Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario, over the Pro Bike entry of Randy Hope of London, Ontario.

Racing for the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge gets underway with qualifying rounds on Saturday beginning at 2 pm, with eliminations in all series scheduled to begin Sunday, May 20, at 11:15 am.

This event is the first for 2012 for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS.

Race teams to meet and greet during season opener at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 14, 2012) – Team members of the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will be provided an opportunity to meet members of Voices Unlimited as they get an up-close look at the cars and spend some time with the drivers this coming Friday as part of the drag racing opener at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park May 18-20.

This three-day event will begin Friday, May 18 as teams get set up at the track and perform some testing and tuning on the quarter mile. During Friday as the teams prepare for racing, members of Voices Unlimited will have a chance to meet with the teams, and all racers will be invited to take part in a Voices Unlimited-prepared barbeque supported by Cayuga Foodland from 11 am to 4 pm.

Voices Unlimited, founded in 2001 and working closely with Community Living Haldimand, is a self advocacy group made up from people in Haldimand and Norfolk. Their vision is that all people will be treated and respected equally and fairly as all community members. Their goals are to provide opportunities for people to learn more about their rights, provide training in leadership, empowerment and advocacy skills, to become mentors for others, to work with other self advocate groups to share ideas/ resources, and to teach others in the community about rights, respect, acceptance and inclusion.

First Quick 32 Sportsman Series race at TMP’s Cayuga May 18-20

BAMBERG, ONTARIO (May 11, 2012) – The MoBoyz Racing Top Dragster has already had some shakedown runs for 2012. Team driver Jeff Moser is very pleased with the car, which will be ready for the opening round of this year’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

“We’re excited,” said Moser, who placed third in the 2011 Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series Standings. “We’ve been testing and we’re happy, things are working well.”

Moser added there have been no major changes to the dragster for the upcoming season, but the team has freshened up several parts of the car, including work by Hutch’s Racing Transmissions. He added that the nitrous setup on the car has also been updated.

“Everybody has stepped up their program this year,” Moser said about the Quick 32 Sportsman Series competitors. “And with the freshened-up tranny and a new nitrous set up, we are confident in our program.”

Moser qualified the car in the top six for some of the races last season, which was highlighted in a Top Dragster win at Grand Bend, and an event win over former champ and Top Sportsman driver Kevin Wicke of Stratford Ontario, also at Grand Bend.

(In Quick 32 Sportsman Series racing, the Top Dragster cars compete amongst each other, as do the Top Sportsman cars, and an overall event winner is declared between the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman finalists).

Preseason, Moser has recorded a team best which if sustained is sure to keep the team very competitive. Owned by Wayne and Dianne Moser, the dragster is a 2011 Phantom Race Cars product powered by a 632-cubic inch Scott Shafiroff engine utilizing a Holley carburetor and Speedtech Fogger nitrous system. An FTI two-speed Powerglide-based transmission sits behind the engine.

Moser, who has drag raced for about 15 seasons, got his start in the sport with a snowmobile, then ran a Dakota pickup in Modified Street, and has been behind the wheel of a dragster since 2003. Crew chief is Wayne “Jake” Moore, and the rest of the team, aside from Wayne and Dianne Moser, include Amy Moore, Melanie, Jackson and Hunter Moser. The team is pleased to announce that James Detzler and Renee Langer have joined the crew to cover “social media” for the team including moboyzracing.com, “Mo BoyzRacing” on Facebook, You Tube and Twitter.

Funny Car star presents signed shirt to young Quick 32 Sportsman Series drivers, Capps featured guest at Ideal Supply Trade Show

STRATFORD, ONTARIO (May 10, 2012) – NHRA superstar Ron Capps was at the Hyde Racing shop recently, and highlighted his visit with a signed NAPA Auto Parts shirt for Quick 32 Sportsman Series drivers Sydnie Hyde, Travis Gueguen, and Spencer Hyde.

Capps was in Stratford to take part in the 2012 Ideal Supply Trade Show, held May 9 and 10 at the Stratford Rotary Complex, a venue that allows Ideal’s customers to view and exchange ideas with over 150 supplier exhibits.

Capps drives the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger in the NHRA’s Funny Car ranks for Schumacher Racing.

The California native recently scored a victory in NHRA racing, winning the Funny Car title at the recent Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals outside of Atlanta, the seventh of 23 races in the Full Throttle series. The win was Capp’s first for the 2012 year, and the first for a non-Force Racing team this season. Qualifying number two for the Atlanta race, Capps beat Robert Hight of Force Racing in the final.

Capps was in town to show his support for the Hydes and Gueguen, young drivers who compete regularly in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series. Sydnie and Travis compete with Top Dragsters, and Spencer drives a Top Sportsman car.

All three will be ready to compete in the first Quick 32 Sportsman Series race of 2012, the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge May 18-20 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, the first of six races for the series this year. Team driver Melanie Simmons focused on winning rounds on 2012 drag race circuit

ORILLIA, ONTARIO (May 10, 2012) – Melanie Simmons is looking to be a strong competitor in this year’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts with her Toyrific Racing Top Dragster entry.

Last season her racing was for the most part a learning experience in her Mike Bos-built dragster, and this season Simmons is focusing on one thing – winning rounds and concentrating on a championship run in the 2012 season.

“This is a tough bunch of racers that compete in this series and if you can win in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series you can win anywhere,” said the Top Dragster driver.

No major changes to the Toyrific Racing team entry were made for 2012, apart from a few updates to make ensure things run smoothly. “We completely freshened the engine over the winter with Carl Spiering and Terry Vince at ERD (Engine Research & Development),” she said.

“We also did some work on the fuel flow bench with Jon Salemi of Resolution Racing Services,” she added. “We wanted to understand our fuel curve and help create an even more consistent tune up.”

“Except for those changes, everything is similar to the program we ran last year,” said Roger Simmons, crew chief of the team and Melanie’s father.

“During the end of the 2011 season we had a really consistent race car,” noted Melanie. “We had a good handle on our tune up and were within .03 of a second on the last 18 runs we made. We were right on track and didn’t want to start with from scratch again. I just need to get sharper on the tree. I know that 90 percent of these Quick 32 Sportsman Series races are won or lost on the starting line so that is my focus as a driver in 2012″.

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 9, 2012) – The opening rounds in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series are only days away, and last year’s winners will once again be trying to get off to a winning start.

The Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park has been the traditional season start for the drag race series, and this tradition continues May 18-20.

The PMRA will kick off its eighth year at Cayuga. In last year’s event, three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, got right into his winning ways with his 1941 Willys, defeating Gary Irving of Toronto in the Al Hinds Corvette. Boland, who placed second in the 2011 Pro Modified Racing Association Championship Point Award Series, qualified number one and took out Irving with a 6.087-second, 234.37-mph run against the 6.309, 222.33 of Irving, who qualified sixth.

Phil Sampson of Granton, Ontario got off to a fine start in 2011 with his Top Sportsman Cavalier entry, qualifying eighth and posting a 7.238 at 188.73 to win the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts final over the Top Dragster of Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario, who qualified sixth and ran a 6.953, 179.25 in the final.

Sampson’s success continued during the season, winning the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series Standings for the series’ third season.

Winning the inaugural race in the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products was Pro Sled racer Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario. Anderson, who rides an Arctic Cat, qualified third on the Pro Sled side of the ladder, and eliminated Pro Bike Rider Randy Hope of London, Ontario in the final.

In the elimination final, Anderson ran a 9.725, 140. 63 over Hope’s 8.683, 145.05. Hope went on to have a successful season in the PBSS, winning Pro Bike & Sled Series 2011 Championship Point Award Series.

The upcoming The Victoria Day Weekend Challenge May 18-20 at Cayuga will be the first of six rounds of drag racing action in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS. It will also be the first round for the PMRA, which will race in the same six events at its companion series, plus an extra event this year.

Qualifying is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 19 starting at 2 pm in all three series, with elimination rounds to begin at 11:15 am Sunday May 20.
