Peter Rappolt: guitar and flute , Marie Rappolt: accordion, midi keyboard bass Peter Rappolt began his musical career in the 60’s and was one of the pioneers of surf music in Australia. His composition and recording of “Ski Run” by his band The Echomen reached Australia’s top 10 recordings in October 1963.

In 1969 Peter with his wife Marie formed cabaret bands (Sounds of Lawrence) to perform at military bases in Sth Vietnam. They completed over 400 concerts in Sth Vietnam in 1969-1970 and continued to perform at military bases throughout Thailand, Guam and The Philippines. In 1970, they purchased a nightclub in Bangkok as a home base for their operations throughout SE Asia. They also performed at many 5 star hotels in Thailand, and Japan until 1972. During the mid 70’s Peter and Marie reformed SOL and performed throughout Australia.

Peter and Marie ceased playing music in 1980 and Peter went on to become a plant operator, civil contractor, gold miner, project manager and eventually a land developer.

In 1996 Peter and Marie revitalised their music association and reformed their band with an entirely different music genre. Marie dispensed with her Hammond organ and took up accordion with a specially developed midi bass. Peter took to playing acoustic guitar.<div class="feedflare">

Details:
1950s recordings of Gipsy Jazz from one of the Jazz and Folk world’s great characters and most accomplished guitarists.

Today there is a proliferation of groups performing the Gipsy Jazz purveyed by the legendary Django Reinhardt, but in the 1950s Reinhardt – who died in 1951 – was on the verge of being forgotten. Enter Diz Disley, cartoonist, broadcaster, banjo player and Django inspired guitarist. Diz served his time in numerous Trad bands including The Yorkshire Jazz Band, Mick Mulligan’s, Ken Colyer’s, Kenny Ball, Chris Barber and Alex Welsh’s as well as the Skiffle Groups of Chas McDevitt and Bob Cort. He formed his String Quintet to play the music of Django Renhardt to play the interval spot at Humphrey Lyttelton’s Club at 100 Oxford Street in London. The group proved popular and was soon broadcasting and playing more gigs. They made few recordings, one set for the small 77 Records label and an EP for Pye. All those recordings are included here including some unreleased tracks. Diz went on to greater things when he rediscovered Django Reinhardt’s ex- partner Stephane Grappelli and gave him a whole new career. Diz Disley revived his String band occasionally over the years. He died in 2010.<div class="feedflare">

Album - Live in Glasgow
Genre - Gypsy Swing
Label - Unknown
Format - Mp3 , 224 kbps
Size - 104 mb.

Dutchman Tim Kliphuis ranks among the world’s finest jazz violinists. He takes Stephane Grappelli’s legacy into the 21st Century by infusing Gypsy Swing with Folk and Classical music.

“Stephane Grappelli’s style is alive and well in the hands of Tim Kliphuis” - Nigel Kennedy

Think Stephane Grappelli, Frankie Gavin, Yehudi Menuhin, Slam Stewart, Django Reinhardt and Oscar Peterson all thrown together and you get an idea of Tim’s musical style. It’s Jazz, Folk and Classical tunes all thrown together in one “swingy, zingy mix” (Glasgow Herald) that is fresh and new but appeals to everyone.

“Ear-caressing” - Sir John Dankworth<div class="feedflare">
