Maybank 54th Birthday Celebrations

Heartwarming actions. Unexpected surprises. I’m always in for that.

And recently, I stumbled upon a cool video from Malaysia’s premier bank, Maybank, which compiled their 3 weeks of surprises which they did around Malaysia.

Now before I talk more about the video, I just want to share that I myself am a Maybank customer and has used this bank since a few years ago (even while I was in Singapore, and well I still am a customer while I’m now in China).

I like their friendly customer service especially at the branch that I visit at Taman Tun (you can add that it’s also less crowded here so that’s a plus point :P ). Oh and yes, I think the Maybank2u.com website is pretty user-friendly and convenient too.

Anyway, the bank has just celebrated its 54th birthday on 12th September. And to show their gratitude to their customers for making it possible for them to go this far, Maybank celebrated their birthday nationwide by bringing surprises to their customers.

Tokens of appreciation were given to their long standing customers, customers who walked into their branches and they even visited customers at their homes to deliver personalised tokens of appreciation! Some received iPad minis, cash vouchers, candies and some received even more personalised gifts like medical treament sponsorship, trip to Legoland, education funds and many more.

I guess the best part of Maybank’s “birthday celebration” is seeing the unexpected smiles from customers which any brand owner can be proud of. After all, what better way to celebrate a birthday but with the “people you care” and for them to appreciate your being.

Personally, for a brand to recognise their customers.. the very people who make the brand, now that’s really something I admire (and am touched).

They are also running another contest to reward customers in conjunction with their birthday.

I'm Now A Geek! (Men's UNO Feature)

Hey, I've been featured in this month's (Sept 2014) issue of Men's UNO..! It's special because well it's this prestigious magazine. And I'm featured in their new Chivas Modern Geek segment! Wow!

Did an interview with them, and honestly while I can't remember the questions now.. but reading back, I think they captured the essence of my beliefs in terms of digital media and business.

Some friends have asked me to translate the write-up and I got my buddy to do it. So, well.. here it is!

QuaChee is a down to earth activist with very detailed thoughts. When he was 24 years old, he wanted to publish his very first book (Batik Inspiration), but he found out that the interests charged by the book agency and book publication companies were way too high. Instead he bucked the trend and did the publication himself with online business as one of his major sales channel. This decision has brought QuaChee to an adventurous journey to success and his book became a hot seller in Asia.

Soon after, he saw potentials in online bookstore as a great business channel and created an online bookstore, bringing the sales of books directly from Thailand and Singapore. How do we use the power of the internet fully to expand our business?

Social media is a good platform to increase the popularity of a brand, whereas email marketing is still a better channel in Malaysia to push out a new product. As long as you get hold of a language on Malaysia’s internet marketing, you will get hold of a certain race group. At times when you switch a language to bilingual, you will see an obvious leap on the market development. This is a very simple, direct method, but it is always ignored. As comparison to overseas internet marketing, the reputation/position of our country’s online influencer is pretty high up because of our diversified society. It is not easy to getting into different groups of market with different languages, but with the help of blog, it would be more efficient.

QuaChee is a hardworking man. He works hard to study, walking across the world of the internet, building up social connections, research the movement of the latest market and understands what the customers’ needs, working on his own projects and so on. He says that he studies and research on the latest news every day, and gaining the knowledge like a sponge. However he is a human, it is impossible to perfectly gaining all the information, and sometimes he would get his working partners to help on other regions of the knowledge.

How do you work with your team in order to reach a goal?

A team is very important to me. A leader without a team would not be successful. The spine of my team is built up by me and two of my friends. We have our own fortes and we help each other along the way. One is great in organization skills, human resources and another good in artistic and creations, and I will be handling the planning and co-ordination of the items. A mature team is not only based on how it works as a team, it also based on the spirit of the team too. Only a team that could work very cohesively would gain happiness and satisfaction, and with happiness, it is closer to success.

How do you evaluate yourself as a leader?

I am a very open minded person as a team leader. I think gathering flourishing ideas from all over the place would be a great direction. I listen to companion’s ideas and opinions very tentatively and would consider them seriously. However, the person who gives the idea must be very sincere, his motive is positive and he is prepared fully about his idea. If a person is not even prepared of what he is going to tell, is best not to waste anyone’s time.

How to maintain a good relationship between the team members?

Do not take anyone for granted. Give and take. It’s that simple.

“Passion” and “Heart” are the fuel to the road of success. You must have the passion and enjoy the work you are working on in order to find happiness in it.

Even though QuaChee’s decisions always seem very risky but he will never take risks without thinking upfront. “I will do as many researches before I make a decision. I will do a lot of calculations, the pros and cons, the risks and unknowns… I would only consider whether the project is worth a shot after I have considered every aspect possible. If I made the first step, I will make sure I will go for it whole-heartedly.”

What kind of an adventurer are you?

I am an adventurer with careful calculations. I would only take risks on doing something that I think it is worth to do, and of course, that is after all the considerations, calculations and planning; if I see the results, I would definitely go for it.

For every risk you took, how did you calculate the risks and how did you make the correct judgments?

It’s impossible for me to calculate and predict for 100%, even I could only do my best to study and observe, feeling what the market really needs. If I really think about it, maybe the sensitivity and ability to observe carefully would be my weapons.

Have you ever been in failure before?

Maybe I am a lucky person, because I get good results from all the risks I took until today. Moreover, the skill of taking risks would grow along with the experience I gained and it might even become closer to what we call, a “human instinct”. Frankly, I learnt how to make a good decision as I getting more mature in life. Sometimes when I meet a roadblock, I would stop and think for the perfect detour plan. If detour is not an option, then it is better not just standing right there doing nothing but do the best and finish the job. You have to non-stop keep track of the progress of your work, do your best to focus and be very sensitive about it, and avoid being hindsight.

How do you define “success”? Do you think you are successful right now?

Success means work in happiness. Everyone’s view of happiness and values are different, no matter what you are doing, how much money you are earning, as long as you are enjoying what you are doing right now and you are gaining satisfaction from it, not just to work because of what people asked you to, that is success. For me, success is a continuous progress, a non-stop progress where I keep on thinking of how to improve myself, and I gain my happiness from there. Up to this point, I think I am successful. Maybe I should put it this way, I have never put “success” as a goal because it is too abstract, but instead I think of non-stop improving and breakthroughs, keep on demanding on myself.

What are the tips to success?

Therefore you must have both to be successful. If I can’t persuade myself to believe or accept a product or a brand, I would not accept the project. I am satisfied of what I am doing right now but I will not stop here.

Who are the successful persons you look up to?

In the entertainment world, I would say Hugh Jackman is one of the examples, he did not lose his own personality, he is who he is and successfully sells his own image to the market. Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, and Tim Ferriss too are the people that I look up to, because they gave me a lot of inspirations and knowledge. Mindvalley and Vishen Lkhiani are the people that should be taken note of in the field of creating publication websites. His creativity and sensitivity are admirable.

Before I left KL, I decided to make some memories.. well, a nostalgic goodbye in some sorts.

I had planned for a lil drama MTV like video, but I sold my car and that kinda "handicapped" the video in terms of props, and more so.. my movement around the city.

Plus, I was just too busy packing all my stuff for China.

And so when my buddy started doing this "dance" after listening to this Korean pop song, well, I thought I'd join him and shoot it as my goodbye KL video!

Well it is a lil random but hey, here it i.. and stay tuned for the ending!

My 1st Week In Shenzhen

Ok, so this should have been written earlier. But well, with limited access to online.. and the business of settling down, I can only find time to write this now.

I thought I'd document my very first week in Shenzhen as it does mean something "special" in a way. I'm in a new city, that I'm rather unfamiliar with (I didn't even know how it looks like before I arrived!).

I arrived Shenzhen on my birthday. Personally, I didn't feel so wow. I mean, spending my birthday rushing to the airport, and on the plane to an all new city (the anxiousness).. just didn't feel that fantastic. And well, even though I arrived dinner time, all I had was to eat my first meal at some hawkers nearby the hotel.

For a guy who likes birthdays to be spent with nice meal and all.. this was a lil setback la! But well, a "sacrifice" I have to make as the next day, I'll be starting work.

The very next day, I have started to use the subway. It's really efficient (peak hours trains have like 2 mins interval!). But it's really packed in the morning and I'm still trying to get accustomed to that life of having to queue up, get pushed and well.. not having the luxury of driving! (yea, spoilt I am!).

For the 1st week, there were a lot of documentation for visa application. And at the same time, I had to quickly find a house to stay. This was another challenge. As I don't even know which part of the city to look for a house. I decided the ones nearer the office (like a few stations away) would be best as I need to wake up early for work (ps: can't be late or salary will be deducted!).

I saw about 7 different houses.. and OMG, prices here are expensive! Actually, I saw many "terrible" homes, and to a point, I thought I have made a "wrong" decision. For the same price I'm paying in KL, but I see houses which are located on the 7th storey of a low cost apartment in KL - and it's a walk up! And the staircase is sooooooo dirty!

But then, I finally found a house with a pool. Slightly smaller.. more like a studio. While I could get with 3 bedrooms for the same price back in KL, this is still... well rather okay (more of the house once I'm ready to show it).

House is not the only expensive thing in Shenzhen. Like my China friend mentioned, China has now become really expensive. Food is nearly 30-50% more expensive than back home! So far, the only cheaper place I found is this western restaurant, Saizerya... which pizzas go for less than RMB20!

Oh btw, on my first week, I managed to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival. A local friend brought me to a park in the city. You'll be amused that the celebrations are much less here compared to back home - if not wrong, the only celebrations was at this park! Anyway, I still managed to borrow a lantern from someone just for a photo!

In all, I thank my friends for helping me in my 1st week in this new place that I'll be calling "home" for a while. Without them, I really don't know how my 1st week would have been!

*On that note, people here in Shenzhen are generally nice. It's not the same like the ones you hear from tourists who visit those tourist spots or my previous encounters with locals during my China trip 5-6 years back!

I'm A Winner!

I'm a Winner! Oh yes, I am. And I wanna share to the world bout it! Haha!

I know it sounds boastful.. but hey, don't get me wrong.

It's just me being full of excitement and all.. and well the need to share it out :)

First off, I got first placed for Domino's Pizza Bear-A-Selfie contest! It's not often that I join contests, and I haven't won much from them either.

But when I saw this bear contest by Dominos.. I knew I had to join! (a bear has got to do what a bear has got to do!).

I submitted a few entries for this (including the ones where I went for the WorldCup Viewing Party). But minus those submitted on that day... I had 2 other entries.

One was taken when I bought the pizza and the football bear merchandise.

The other, I again bought the pizza. Got it delivered.. and then got my make-up artist friend, Konji, to help me out with the make-up. It took a good 2 hours plus for this to be done (make-up plus photography - oh yes we took many shots!).. but I'm happy with the results!

And hooray cos the judges like it too! And so.. I won the 1st prize of 1 year supply of XTRA Large Pizza!!!

The 2nd "win" I'd like to share is... well, I've been interviewed by Men's UNO for the 2nd time. This time round, it's a feature under the segment - Modern IT Geeks!

Managed to capture a pic from the shoot, though I think this will not be used in the feature.

The feature will be out in September. Call that a birthday gift! Oh, I can't wait! :)

Now, the 3rd "win".... is well, I got a new job. And guess what... it's not in KL but in Shenzhen, China instead!

The confirmation of the job and all is pretty fast, and in less than 1 week, I'll be moving once again to a new place altogether (I was previously based in Singapore for 8 years).

More about the attraction about moving abroad and the new job in the coming posts. But for now, these are just some of the stuffs that makes me feel... like a real Winner! (humming to the song "I believe I can fly"...).

Taiwanese Hot Dog/ Sausage

I was in Taipei recently - like after a draught of no travels in 10 months!

I must say the whole trip was super fun! I'll probably share about the trip in some other day.

But this time round, I wanna share about the Taiwan sausage.. which the Taiwanese use the term "hot dog".

You can say that I was rather "amused" with the "hot dogs" there. There's just so much varieties, and it comes in many shapes and sizes! And the one I liked most - is the one with cheese!!

Oh well just for fun.. I did 2 videos out of it (pardon the messy hair!).

Brickfields Goreng Pisang And Nian Gao (Kuih Bakul)

Nian gao (or call it kuih bakul). Usually, I have them during the Chinese New Year. But then, I found this really good stall in Brickfields and well.. you can say, I've had my fair share of it all year round.

This is a simple stall located opposite of YMCA and operates during the day. I usually go here during the afternoons.

And depending on luck, it can get crowded at times. And the queues can be long. So much so that you have to wait for 20-30 minutes for a fresh batch to be cooked.

The owner, Mr Chiam and his son operates this stall and sells not just the nian gao but also other fried snacks.

While prices has gone up over the years, but it's still rather reasonable... after all, the price to pay for probably one of the best (if not the best) nian gao in KL!

The other food I like from here much is the also must-try pisang goreng (fried banana fritters). The flour makes the bananas rather crispy yet the inside is still fresh. It's always a good combination with the nian gao!

If you are in Brickfields, or the surroundings (eg KL Sentral), and looking for a good afternoon snack... look no further. I bet you will be like me... always coming back for more!

World Cup With BolaBears And Dominos Pizza!

World Cup. Pizza. And Bears.

That’s the combination for last Sunday night during the World Cup Finals between Germany and Argentina.. cos Domino’s Pizza Malaysia threw a Bear themed World Cup Finale viewing party.

And lucky me, was invited!

There was a host of games and activities before the ‘live’ match.

Amongst them.. a pizza box folding contest, the human foosball game, and the Instagram contest (for the most likes).

Well, being an avid Instagrammer.. I chose to focus on this one, which I thought I had a fair chance to win.

While some were busy playing the other contest.. me, I had a mission to win. So some of you, my friends, would have received messages from me.. requesting for Liking my picture on IG (thank you!). But alas after 1 hour of “hardwork”, sad me didn’t win despite having about 150 plus likes when the contest ended.

The other I did before the game started - well to get my face painted. I have painted my face with Brazil colours just the week before.. and since they are not in the finals, I went ahead with supporting Argentina.

I also took some photos with fellow bloggers… who were rather divided between the support for the night (see their painted coloured faces!).

Soon, it was time to get ready for the biggie. But first, to grab the pizza! I chose the ultimate Hawaiian pizza (my all time favourite).

And finally it was time for the game to begin! So grab our bean bags, and got comfortable we did!

I’m sure the Bear supported Argentina that night too!

After some suspense and “fake” excitement (cos of the offside Argentina goal).. the whole event has ended. And while the world celebrates, it was my turn to head back to catch some sleep.

All in all, I was glad to have attended this event though it did disturb my sleeping hours. But hey, when football comes with pizza and bears.. it’s all worth it! :)

Wolverine Vs BearMan (Video And Behind The Scenes)

X-men. Oh how I love the movie. So much so that I actually watched it twice!

And of course, my favourite character from the movie is non other than Wolverine. His quirkiness and macho-ness.. makes him one of my top 3 favourite superheroes!

And so for my latest video, I decided to "cosplay" Wolverine.

I first got my hair cut with my regular stylist. And I simply mentioned to him.. that this time, it's gonna be Wolverine style. I actually kinda like my Wolverine hair :P

The rest of the costume was fairly easy - I have a black jacket. So I only rented the claws and belt. Oh and for the beard, I got it at one of those knick knack costume party shops in Plaza Low Yat.

Did a bit of trimming to the beard.. and voila! I became Wolverine! :P

And to make it interesting, I also introduce a "character" that I kinda create myself, BearMan.

This is the average, "bear-next-door".. a regular, just like most superheroes who conceal their superpowers. But of course, the BearMan likes more stuff than the average guy.

Power wise, well.. he is rather powerful for he gets whatever he wants with the snap of his fingers. Call that magic.

So well, I did the shoot in a couple of hours, and the video is titled.. Wolverine vs BearMan. And so without much further ado.. here it is!

Making Beautiful Ice Cream Food (Wall's Scoop Of Happiness Workshop)

Ice cream. Oh how much me love ya!

But hey, if you thought that ice cream is limited to just being served in cups (no matter how pretty).. well, you're in for a treat.

For recently, I attended the Wall's Scoop Of Happniess Workshop.. and got a kick of making beautiful ice cream food!

The event is conducted by popular Instagrammer/ Iger, Samantha Lee, who is known for her beautiful and cute food she makes for her family.

In this rather unique workshop, she shows the things she does best - which is making beautiful food, but the twist is to make sure it comes with ice cream.

Her very first task is to ensure that she has all the ingredients and props in hand. These can be from fruits to berries, gummy bears, sweets, and those cake toppings.

To make sure she gets the right food design, she usually sketches her work before she makes them.

And then, it was time to roll up her sleeves and start "cooking"!

Some things can be pretty straight forward.. while some things need a bit of imagination and creativity (especially on what to use to make the design).

And of course comes the hardest part - as she says... the ice cream! It's hard because it melts fast, and it's not that easy to get a full round shape scoop that's neat too (and perfect for the camera).

But of course, she is a pro, and she made 3 designs that day!

As my friend, +Caroline Ng May Ling likes Minnie Mouse much.. we decided to go along with the theme. +Eric Lee Huangshi , the designer with the background kinda did most of the job, while we helped out with getting the right ingredients as props.

4 Must Try Korean Burgers (By Bulgogi Burgers)

Burgers, ah how I love them. You can say that it's probably one of my favourite food.

More so with the mushrooming of burger restaurants.. making KL really a burger heaven. Most of them revolve around Western recipe burgers.. but then comes these must-try Korean burgers!

Yes, what? Korean burgers - you read it right.

These are not your typical burgers, but made of special ingredients from the Korean kitchen - kimchi, pickled radish, gochujang (Korean chili paste), fresh vegetables and gooey fried egg delicately crafted into compact charcoal bun burgers for your enjoyment.

4. Bibimbap Burger

Think Bibimbap minus the rice, and packed into a burger instead. Oh an yes, look at the egg!

Ingredients: home-made premium beef patty, topped with sprouts, carrots, zucchinis and a sunny side up.

3. Kimchi Burger

Oh I love Kimchi, and if you do too.. this will be THE burger!

Ingredients: Kimchi layered with mushrooms, lightly sautéed Kimchi and a

perfectly seared handmade beef patty, sandwiched between flavourful charcoal buns.

2. Spicy Gwangyang Burger

While I went for the Kimchi Burger, many of my friends preferred this burger over that. In fact, they can't be far wrong. Cos, it sure tastes spicily good too - owing it mainly to the tender sliced beef brisket drenched in the the barbeque Osam sauce!

Ingredients: tender sliced beef brisket in BBQ Osam sauce, button mushrooms and onions, slivers of melted American cheese.

1. Unyang Burger

The "big mac" of the family and mother of burgers in Bulgogi Brothes is the Unyang Burger. Stacked highly, this hefty burger is a combination of the best 2 burgers - the spicy Gwanyang and the Bibimbap Burger. I know that if I'm super hungry.. this burger will definitely be the burger to bite into!

Ingredients: home-made premium beef patty, layered with American cheese, beef brisket in savoury sauce and beautifully garnished with crispy shredded potato sandwiched in a toasted charcoal bun.

All the burgers in Bulgogi Brothers comes with their signature side dishes (UNLIMITED!) and also the crispy homemade sweet potato chips! You can guess I had my fair share of kimchi!

Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Transformers, Ultraman, Godzilla.. you name it. They have all come to KL. Yes, you heard it right. Of all the cities in the world, they stopped at the heart of Truly Asia.. to fight!

And they caused one super big sinkhole in the city!

This sinkhole happened on 2nd July. Just look at the damage!

Taiwan's Latest Craze: Pudding Ramen

Pudding with Ramen. Or Pudding with Instant Noodles.

What did I just say.. well, you read it right.

It's the latest craze happening from Taiwan.. and it's now a trend. And since it's so popular, I thought I'd give it a try, though however weird it is.

So, just the other day, I bought the instant noodles and well.. the caramel pudding. Stuff good enough for the weird combination. Now, just to note, I thought I'd buy the beef noodles - hoping it's the closest to the one in Taiwan, as I couldn't find pork noodles. And the caramel pudding - well, it's the only available one in the supermarket (though I got it from Cold Storage!).

The noodles I bought had a heavy taste, and it kinda drowned the sweet caramel pudding. So overall, it wasn't that weird for me at all.

Oh and just for the records, I didn't had any tummy upset from eating the pudding ramen. That's a wow seeing how vulnerable my tummy is.

And so, I think I'll try this again - but with other type of noodles the next time!

Guess what I was doing here? Does it look like me playing those dance machine kinda thing?

Well.. yes, and no.

Yes, because this is a game machine. But no.. because, it’s way more awesome. I mean, how can a chance to win beers not be way more awesome?

So, all this is part of Carlsberg Friendtastic Machine.. which I had a chance to play when they set it up at Pavilion recently.

There are 3 stages to the games..

The 1st stage was fairly simple: grab the beers that pop out with your hands/ fingers and don’t let go, don’t move.

Stage 2 was the tricky one.. cos the player then needs to bring the beer around the display, away from the shooting fire. Sounds simple right.. but err.. well, Initially, me and my buddy got caught (and burnt!) a few times.. and that means starting the game altogether!

But then we knew the trick! Place the bottles at the center bottom of the screen.. cos the fires do not go there :P

Yea, so we won.. and finally (in Stage 3) was to place the bottles into the basket.. and voila, we WIN! :P

Oh the last part take a winning selfie, and then collect the FREE beers that we won..!

Oh must I say, this made my movie thereafter a unique experience.. beer in cinema! Haha!

Music With The Celebs (Beats New Product Line Up 2014)

Beats by Dr. Dre. This has always been one awesome music equipment.. and in 2014, it sure gets better.

Recently, this cool brand released their new range of products with the media and celebrities. Oh and yes, they invited some of us bloggers too.

And so.. I got the chance to be in a celebrity filled room.. together with all the cool Beats line up for 2014! Cool products and the celebs.. oh ya, that's really uber cool!

There were many celebrities present on that day but being rather oblivious to the media scene (I bet you it's not just because it's local).. I only know a few of them by name.

The ones that caught my attention - firstly, Dina (Malaysia Idol Runner Up)! I've not seen her in person for ages now (the last was when I bumped into her.. in err.. yea, Malaysia Idol 2 when I err.. yea, went for the auditions!). Okay move on.. there's also the pretty actress, Joanne Yew. She obviously lit the room with her presence (and height!).

But while the celebrities add shine to the whole event, it's the Beats speakers and headphones that truly shines with all the sleekness it has.. oh and to some of it, cuteness too!

Just like the Pill Dude which holds the Beats Pill speakers, making them into some really cute expressions! Oh and can you notice that each different Pill Dude colour comes with a diferent expression?

There were many headphones on display and amongst them - the Beats Wireless which can be used up to 30 feet away and 10 hours of battery life! While I'm not sure of the quality exactly.. but just look at them. Aren't they just beautiful?!

Something still beautiful but in a more "transformers" kinda style.. I like the Titanium coloured Beats Studio Wireless headphones. This is for the tough guys! Btw, this headphones comes with Adaptive Noise Cancelation (ANC) for minimal noise distractions.

The other range of beautes which really impresses is the new Beats Studio 2.0.. which comes in a mix of colours. These 3 colours are probably the ones I like the most, which are pretty classy yet hip.

Talking bout colours, the Beats Solo HD comes in even more colours - from Blue, Magenta, Purple, Green, Light Blue, Mint, Red, Black all the way to White! Yea, so many to choose from!

I must say.. I am pretty glad to have attended this event.. being able to see the stylish Beats, meet some cool celebs, and oh yea.. take some really awesome selfies with the Beats! Simply by putting them headphones on.. I have transformed to being stylo! Haha!

And btw, why are they mainly Chinese and Japanese.. I don't know. It's complicating right. I speak more English, and am fluent in Malay language.. but when it comes to the heartstrings.. I still "go back to my roots" of listening to Chinese.

I can keep listening to these songs over and over.. though I know that eventually, I will need to play more uplifting songs to get out of the "zombie" mood :)

I've Watched Emily Of Emerald Hill!

Emily Of Emerald Hill. Oh, I've heard so much wonderful reviews about it, but never have had the chance to watch it before.

So, while reading through one of my favourite magazines, TimeOutKL, I noticed that this show will be showing in the all new Damansara Performing Arts Centre aka DPAC. And so, I bought my tickets and went for it!

Well, what can I say except that I was blown away! And that's also the reason why I'm writing this blog post as fast as I can. Cos I want you to go watch it (yes, there's still time!).

The date I watched Emily!

You see, in this 2 hour show (with a short break in between), the actress, Pearlly Chua did the whole show - alone. And she pulled it of so well with her superb acting.

She acted as a child, to a young Nyonya, to a loving (yet at times fierce) mother and wife, and to a widow. And with it, she brought joy, sadness, and anger which I felt it myself by watching her performance.

And even though she is just 1 person, and with very lil props, she could bring out the majestic and glory days of the Baba Nyonyas.. like how they had grand dinners, and the way they did to impress!

And well, if I thought doing YouTube videos was tough enough.. she proved that there's more to great acting! Truly, I'm honoured to see such a great artist and performer. What an inspiration indeed.

Btw, I had the opportunity to talk to the director too, Chin San Soon, who told me that Emily has been such an old show - since 1984! It has since been replayed over the years by many other actors.. though he is most proud of Pearlly (she played over 160 times!).

While I haven't watched the other actors performed, but I'm so sure that Pearlly has set one high benchmark! (the other one I remember hearing raves reviews is Ivan Heng - yes a guy!).

Oh and he also mentioned that many actors will act out Emily to prove his/ her acting skills. Ooooooo. Maybe I should try it someday - like on Youtube! :P

I Was At The Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon Fiesta!

Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon.

I've been seeing pictures of some fellow bloggers attending this event a few years back. They were nice, or awesome.

And that made me attend the event once before. However, that was in the afternoon, and no hot air balloons were in sight.

However, this year, I surprised myself (again). I woke up at 530am, just to go to the hot air balloon festival - and try to get the tickets for the tethered hot air balloon rides.

Me and buddy arrived pretty early - like 645am. But by then, there was already a long queue. And bout 30 mins later.. the person in charge told us the "bad news" - that the tickets are all sold out.

In a way, I didn't miss the tethered balloon rides - it's pretty err.. low.

So since that was off the itinerary, we proceeded to the empty field where the sponsored hot air balloons were being prepared for "take off".

Together with buddy +Eric Lee Huangshi . I have 3 cameras - the DSLR, the compact camera and the smartphone. But at the end of the day.. the smartphone rules!

Now, luckily my buddy loaned me his DSLR camera. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been allowed to enter the barricades. What a funny rule! For I carried that - really "just for show", and took photos with my smartphone instead!

One of the major highlights every year is the Darth Vader hot air balloon. And although it's been around every year (well, definitely not its first time as I've seen photos of it before).. so I had to take the photo of it.

Oh ya, Darth Vader actually did "visit" Malaysia!

The other hot air balloon that striked me is this blown up motorbike by Yamaha.

But the ones, that I felt most proud of is the 2 hot air balloons from Taiwan. The cow one is sooooooo cute!

Those were the major highlights of the event. On the whole, it was a nice experience for a 1st time visitor.

Though personally, unless the organisers increase the number of balloons next year and have more unique balloons, I'll probably skip it. Oh but count me in if I get a free ride above the sponsored balloons! XD

It's Songkran. And I surprise myself for not being in Bangkok this year.

Oh well, for certain reasons, I have decided to skip the water festival. But that doesn't stop me from playing water, and having fun!

I called up 2 of my buddies, and we shot a video on tips to "surviving" Songkran. Or well you can call it "Tips For Songkran".

Ninetology wrapped a AirAsia plane. Call that plastering its name across the plane end to end.

Cool branding in many ways, and definitely a "wow".

And well, I was there, being part of the historic moment... taking some photos and well, giving a speech there too (oh wow!).

The plane.. is a plane, but when you have your brand name on it, it's definitely a proud moment. Congrats Ninetology in your dream of going ASEAN!

The 1st Wow - is the latest model, a full fledged Android phone.. which does everything a smartphone can do, but only for a price of RM199 (I know, wow!).

There's other Wows too. One of them is the #9Giveaway done every 9th of the month on Ninetology's FB. Last month, we gave out the 100 Doraemon event tickets (which was snapped up by the 1st hour.. yes wow!).

Upcoming will be a heartwarming webseries. Apart from the series, Ninetology will be going around old folks homes, and connecting the old folks with the loved ones by the Ninetology handsets (awwwww).

There's a few other Wows for the year. But well, I didn't reveal further. For after all... the event was about the plane. And I think the plane needed its full glory :)

Malaysia Social Media Week And Me

Work. Oh, it can get so busy.

Well, it doesn't takes a genius to guess that based on the postings on my blog (or lack thereof).

There's a lot ongoing. But these will be shared some other time - at the RIGHT time.

As for now, I wanna share one rather happy occasion where I was the speaker for one of the biggest digital media events in the country, Malaysia Social Media Week.

This happened last February - with me sharing the stage with some of the coolest digital media industry players - the most celebrated probably is Scott Eddy, MD of nine9nine.

There's also Evan Carmichael, another influential digital player. In fact, there is a full list of speakers, whom I've had the opportunity to share the stage with.

*But besides giving my speech, this event was an opportunity to network - making friends with new associates, and at the same time meeting up with "old friends". Truly a networking of sorts.

Apart from having the privilege to go on the stage and speak, I'm also happy to have met some new friends and reconnect with some old ones. Truly, it was like a social gathering of sorts.

I spoke about the digital community that my company is embarking on. The title of my speech - Make Yourself Epic. Gave it a superhero theme to it (well, not surprising heh :P ).

There are so many versions out there.. but the one that strike me most is this male version by Youtuber Caleb Hyles. His manly (and can I say bear-ish) voice really makes the song like his own. In fact, so much so that some of my friends prefer his version as compared to Idina Menzel's version!

Well, liking his version and this song that much.. I decided to join in as well, and come out with my own Let It Go parody.. to which I sing to the song sang by Caleb.

I Met 100 Doraemon! (100 Doraemon Malaysia)

Doraemon. Owh, it's everywhere ain't it?

I remember watching bout this super magic cat when I was young and of course, the high pitch voices of the 2 main stars - Doraemon, and its buddy Nobita.

Well, anyway.. Doraemon is in KL now, and though I'm not a super big fan.. I knew that I had to go.

So, went I did to the 100 Doraemon Malaysia Expo. And while, it's not an interactive exhibition but more static Doraemons.. but enjoyed I did.

For I took really lots of photos of the whole exhibition with the many Doraemons in store. So well.. beware of lots of photos..!!

For Doraemon fanboys and fangirls, do enjoy! :D
