Verizon has announced that it will be launching LTE-only phones as early as next year, with Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo stating that “the transition to ‘pure LTE’ handsets — handsets that lack CDMA chips — would result in lower costs and subsidies for customers.”

For some background information, let’s explore What is LTE .
