From Acapulco, Mexico, expat school teacher Brandon Brewer files from south of the border, where life is more than drunken frat rats and cheap margaritas, and not everything is gay.

One day I was putting up flyers around the school to advertise a scholarship program to the students. I entered one class and began taping a paper — hoja in Spanish — up to the window. I asked one of the students if the hoja was crooked, to which he yells to some girls standing outside the door, "Hey! Brandon wants to know if he has it crooked." ("Quiere saber si la tiene chueca.") I held back the laughter shaking my head in disapproval, while making a mental note of the joke for future use.

Iowans have already had two months to bask in their place in history, as citizens of America's third state to grant marriage equality to The Gays. And yet, not every gay couple has taken advantage of the ability to file joint (state!) tax returns. Which means marriage applications are up. Who's responsible for these shenanigans? Lesbians! Seventy percent of the applications are coming from the ladies, generating all sorts of U-Haul jokes among county recorders.

Vatican Moves Closer to Granting Sainthood to Maybe-Gay Cardinal

Cardinal John Henry Newman is on his way to sainthood! The 19th century Roman Catholic was just given "a miracle attributed to him" by Pope Benedict XVI, which is just one step away from full-blown sainthood. The publishing of a miracle is also evidence that Catholics still believe its priests have a direct channel to God! "According to Catholic doctrine," reports ANSA, "miracles happen when a prospective saint, who is in heaven, intercedes with God and asks for a special favour to be granted. Most miracles in sainthood causes are medically inexplicable cures." If the pope goes so far to grant Newman sainthood, he'll become "England's first saint from the last four centuries." Now just shut up about those rumors that Newman was all gay with "long-time friend" Ambrose St. John.

Ft. Worth Police Play Blame Game with Texas' Alcohol Commission

And so it's come to this. In the aftermath of the Ft. Worth Stonewall-esque bar raid on the Rainbow Lounge, the Ft. Worth Police are cutting ties with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission until an internal affairs investigation sorts out who, if anyone, was at fault during an "underage drinking crackdown" that left Chad Gibson in the hospital. What's more, Police Chief Jeff Halstead (pictured) might make those officers involved in the raid — who claimed the patrons they tried arresting made sexual advances to them during the raid — take "multicultural training." This wouldn't have something to with all the media attention and pressure from local lawmakers, would it?

Will New York's Senators Spend July 4 Working? Hah, No.

David Paterson is demanding senators work through the holiday weekend. We're doubting much will get done just because Paterson says so — given folks like Sen. Ruben Diaz has said he has no plans on staying in Albany. And we're sorry we've been bringing you so much New York state politics lately, but when the circus is in town, you don't want to miss it.

Not surprisingly, Bill O'Reilly doesn't care if students have access to gay-oriented information — a topic in the news because the ACLU has joined the fight to restore school computers' access to LGBT info pages. The sad old man, of course, should never be confused with someone with the best interests of America's youth. Because if he were, he'd want young people to have more tools at their disposal for exploring their identities, like the homepages of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network and Marriage Equality USA. O'Reilly, and guest Lis Wiehl, once again mistake homosexuality as an identity that's purely about ramming penises into butts. There grown adults are HARMFUL.

What Legalizing Same-Sex Intimacy Means to This Gay Indian

As India moves toward decriminalizing same-sex sex, with a Delhi court ruling this week striking down a 150-year-old British anti-sodomy law in the city, Queerty asked Pradeep Solanki to describe what the news means to him. He files from his home in Canada.

About ten years ago I was walking excitedly around downtown Mumbai, soaking in the sights and sounds of the land my family left more than 100 years ago. I passed by Churchgate Railway Station and the unmistakable aura of gay men cruising was palpable. I was approached very seductively by a square-jawed youth who wasted no time in getting to the point. He whispered all the things he would do to me if only I would follow him to his flat around the corner. My temperature raised, I followed him closely and he held my hand. In India it is a common sight to see two men (or two women) holding hands or walking arm on shoulder as a mark of deep friendship. We turned a corner and his demeanor turned violent. He snatched my wallet, insulted me in Hindi and finally threatened to call the police.
