Gov. Chris Gregoire has officially signed same-sex marriage into law in Washington State in a ceremony held in the state capital of Olympia. Weddings will commence June 7, if opponents do not have 120,000 signatures to propose a November ballot referendum by June 6.

TMZ, Celine Dion Weigh In On The Cause Of Whitney Houston’s Death

An official autopsy report could take up to eight weeks but, according to TMZ, pop icon Whitney Houston died from a drug overdose and not from drowning in her hotel room tub. The celebrity site also claims that multiple prescription bottles were recovered from Houston’s hotel room—including ones for anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Valium and Lorazepam—but that there were not many pills left in the bottles.

BREAKING: Marriage Equality Bill Passes NJ Senate, Heads To Assembly

Lawmakers in Trenton have just approved a marriage-equality measure with a vote of 24-16, paving the way for the bill to head to the New Jersey state Assembly, where it is expected to pass easily on Thursday.

As ABC News reports:

Monday’s vote contrasts with the only other gay-marriage vote taken in the Legislature. In January 2010, gay marriage supporters thought they had built a narrow majority in the Senate, but senators began to defect, and the measure was defeated 20-14. Since then, Senate President Stephen Sweeney, a Democrat from West Deptford, has changed his position. He says he regrets abstaining two years ago and has made gay marriage recognition a top priority.

Republican Governor Chris Christie (right) has made clear he’ll veto the bill when it comes across his desk, stating he’d rather the issue be put on a public ballot.

Way to dodge the issue, Chris!

After Christie’s ix-nay, the Legislature would have until January 2014 to override it with a two-thirds votes in both chambers. Same-sex marriage advocates believe they can garner enough support in two years, but it’s really a shame they have to spend the time and resources to do so.

WA Gov To Sign Marriage Equality Bill At 11:30AM PST

We’ve known for a while that Washington State would be the seventh in the nation to pass marriage equality, but that doesn’t mean putting the icing on the cake shouldn’t be cause for celebration.

The State House and Senate passed the bill last week, and now the office of Gov. Christine Gregoir has announced she’ll sign the bill into law at 11:30am PST/2:30pm EST today.

Expect the first gay weddings in June 7, as well as some backlash from NOM and other anti-marriage-equality organizations. Maggie Gallagher and her ilk will need to collect 120,000 signatures by June 6 and a whopping 241,153 John Hancocks by July 6 to get the issue on the ballot for November.

If Gallagher and her homophobic henchmen encounters similar roadblocks that she does in the amazing interview below, then she’ll have a real problem getting the people of Washington State to swat down marriage equality—or to even answer their doorbell. Meanwhile, Santorum has flown in to the state to talk with anti-marriage folks.

Hulk Hogan Denies Gay Rumors On Wendy Williams Show

We reported last year when Hulk Hogan’s estranged ex, Linda, claimed the Real American had a homo-gay affair with fellow wrestler Brutus Beefcake.

Well, the Hulkster was on the Wendy Williams Show last week and managed to refute the rumor in a calm and respectful manner. (And this is a guy who used to body slam people for a living.)

He told Williams:

“A lot of my friends in normal life, a lot of my friends in the entertainment business, and a lot of my friends in the wrestling business are gay. It has nothing to do with the quality of person or how nice they are and I’ve seen how they’ve been discriminated against… Just to say something spiteful and hurtful, I don’t get it.

If it was true and I was gay, I’d embrace it. And I’d tell you guys about it and I’d celebrate it.”

Aw c’mon, Hulk, you can’t leave us hanging like that! Who are those gays in the wrestling business?

Is it John Cena? Puh-leez let it be John Cena!

Atlanta Police Arrest One Of Three Suspects In Gang-Related Gay Bashing

Progress is being made in the case of the 20-year-old gay man who was viciously attacked after leaving a grocery store in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Atlanta. Police have arrested Jack Gang member Christopher Cain, transported him to the Fulton County Jail, and charged him with aggravated assault and robbery, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

You Decide: Super Bowl Sideline Commentary Or Gay-Porn Dialogue?

Queerty reader Cassie Peterson shared with us some of the innuendo-laden commentary she copied verbatim from the NBC Sports telecast of last week’s Super Bowl XLVI. We thought the homoerotic-sounding stuff was limited to game terminology—tight ends, sack masters, wide receivers and the like—but as Cassie illustrates, either the color commentators were barely repressing their man-on-man urges or we just need to get laid more often (probably both).

* “He dumped it to his tight end…”

* “He’s got Woodhead in man-to-man coverage.”

* “They took a shot at him and all of a sudden they get a face full of that…”

* “He got buried on that one with the double team.”

Why the gayest-sounding sport is the one where the players wear the most clothes, we’ll never know. With its baggy drawers and talk of dribbling and passing, basketball just doesn’t turn our crank. We guess we’ll just hold out for spring and all that talk of pitching and catching.

Damn It, SNL Made Zooey Deschanel Slightly Less Annoying!

Up until this weekend we truly despised everything about Zooey Deschanel—the atypical spelling of her name, the Kewpie-doll mouth and Keane eyes, the intentionally warble in her singing voice and her insistence on playing the doe-eyed little waif despite being, what, 45? (Okay, 32.) We imagine she sits in her bedroom making faces in the mirror and asking friends, “Does this expression look cute? How about this one?”

But anyone who can make fun of herself—like Zooey did in this SNL skit, where Abby Elliott impersonates her and she plays a particularly emaciated Mary Kate Olsen—can’t be all bad. (Extra points to Taran Killam as a Mickey Mouse version of Michael Cera.)

Damn you, Zooey Deschanel—now we can’t even hate you properly!

Jay Manuel Thinks That Marc Jacobs And Tom Ford Would Not Make A Good Power-Gay Couple

Rumors of Marc Jacobs’ dalliance with porn star Harry Louis notwithstanding, Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger recently used her prominent position as America’s dating expert to speculate that Marc and Tom Ford would make a great couple.

When we approached America’s Next Top Model coach Jay Manuel to ask if they were a match made in heaven, he took Patti down a notch.

“Oh, no, that wouldn’t work!” Jay said to Queerty at Diet Pepsi Style Studio Fashion Show presented by Simon Doonan at The Box at Lincoln Center. “Tom’s so particular and fussy, and between him and Marc Jacobs, the two of them, such control freaks—it wouldn’t work.”

We asked if Jay was calling Marc messy, and he clarified.

“No, I think Marc is very put together,” said Jay. “He actually used to live in my building, and he always looked great. Tom likes everything totally buttoned up.”

What do you guys think? Could Marc and Tom make it werq?

The six-time Grammy winner’s long battle with drug abuse was widely reported by the media, but we always thought there would be more chapters to her life. We’re sure tonight’s Grammys will pay tribute to Houston, but CNN’s cameras caught up with the likes of Britney Spears, Adam Lambert and Tony Bennett at the pre-awards event Houston was scheduled to attend.

Responsibilities would cover a variety of editorial and administrative duties and, while it’s an unpaid internship, you’d get great on-the-job experience, good clips and access to some of the greatest cultural, entertainment and nightlife events in New York City.

Plus, the hours are very flexible and interns generally operate from home. Where else can work in your pajamas?

The internship would involve:

Interviewing sources and covering parties, press conferences and other events when possible
Contacting publicists to schedule interviews, procure images and products
Maintaining databases and helping with site infrastructure
Reaching out to media outlets to promote Queerty content
Writing occasional posts and moderating comments

Applicants should have:

Interest in and knowledge of the LGBT community and its issues
Good writing and grammar skills
A professional demeanor
Familiarity with blogs, blog technology and software, including WordPress

If You’re A Gay Cruising Craigslist At CPAC, Are You Automatically Into Humiliation?

Some great stuff has been bubbling up from CPAC, the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, in Washington, DC—mostly Republitards burying themselves spouting inane rhetoric that pushes them further to the fringes of American politics.

But as HyperVocal points out, the conservative cabal is also a hotbed of homo cruising (presumably of the closeted kind). Slade Sohmer trolled recent Craigslist postings in the DC area and came up with quite a few CPAC-related M4M ads.

“These were all posted within the last day or two,” writes Sohmer. “We did not plant any of them or alter them in any way. And we’re genuinely rooting for this lot, hoping all these guys score—it doesn’t matter what side of the aisle you sit on, or what you sit on, everyone’s entitled to some lovin’ they prefer.”

We wouldn’t go that far—we kind of think being a kapo means you should suffer an eternal case of blueballs, but we’re kinda mean like that.

Here’s a small sample of what’s turned up:

Oh yeah, “bi-guy.” Like any closet case at CPAC is bi. That’s right up there with “I’ve never done this before” and “Oh that’s just a cold sore.” Dollars to donuts, this is Aaron Schock.

Wow, this guy show’s initiative—a real go-getter! Too bad he’s only (snicker) 21. “The Group Leader for President in 2026!”

In case you can’t read it, he says:

CPAC? 29 (penn quarter)
Im am looking to host a CPAC attendee/s. like guys with a conservative look. NSA, Oral, bj, massage,rimming, willing to explore.”

And applicants get extra points if they’re hairy, white and married. Ah, there are those good wholesome family values conservatives are always talking about!

Kellan Lutz Is Totally Into Fashion, You Guys

Coming out to New York Fashion Week, I have so many friends in the fashion world, like Bernardo Rojo, who designs everything for Joseph Abboud. And Simon Spurr is a good friend, he’s over working with Tommy Hilfiger.

These guys just know how to make a great suit, make a great top. But now I have my own line, called Abbot + Main. that I created with Danny Guez. He has Dylan George denim jeans, and I have Abbot + Main tops. I’m the face of Abbot as well.

And there’s a Twilight fashion line that they sell at Target. They have Edward’s jacket and Bella’s jeans and Alice’s dresses. I remember doing a convention and hanging out with fans and they had a prom-queen dress from the line on. These girls are wearing the dresses that Alice wore in the movie! There’s a lot of really great jackets and pieces of clothing. It’s definitely a fashion-y series.

We remember reading Vice magazine in high school and laughing our asses off over the Do’s and Don’ts. We were kinda perpetually high back then, so we thought maybe the mag wasn’t as funny as we remembered. But we recently came across a feature by writer Jamie Lee Curtis Taete (we’re gonna assume that’s a nom du plume) that confirms Vice as a source of outrageously un-p.c. guffaws.

PHOTOS: Inside The Big Gay Atlantis Cruise

GayCities/Queerty co-founder Chris Bull and Swish Edition podcaster R. Scott Wallis were on the Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world—along with Idina Minzel, Bruce Vilanch, Alex Mapa, Tupperware queen Dixie Longate and thousands of gay men (and 78 women!), ranging from 20-year-old twinks to 80-year-old grandads.

The Atlantis Events cruise sailed last week from Ft. Lauderdale on a seven-night itinerary that included ports of call in Labadee, Haiti and Costa Maya & Cozumel in Mexico. With countless bars, multiple restaurants, a huge gym, concerts and performances, and of course the usual all-night dance parties, the big ship was rocking in more than one way from start to finish.

The Allure staged a spectacular high dive show as well as a pared down version of the musical “Chicago.” Travis Wall & Nick Lazzarini from TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance” fame taught the cruisers how to move–as if the boys needed lessons! And a gaggle of comedians like Alec Mapa, Erin Foley and Bruce Vilanch were a highlight.

“It’s mostly bottoms that come to our shows, so they are very receptive,” New York City-based comedian Chris Doucette quipped.

The jubilant mood was dampened on Friday, however, when the ship’s captain announced that passenger Kenneth John Gemmell from Ireland went overboard in what is being described by Royal Caribbean as an apparent suicide.

NYC Man Wins Five-Year Battle To Change Sex On His Birth Cerificate

When we read David Hassan had finally gotten Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan to change his birth certificate from ~~male to female~~ female to male, we assumed he was a trans man who had scored a personal victory.

But as it turns out he was just correcting a typo from almost 30 years ago.

Hassan, who was born male, was accidentally listed as female on the birth certificate issued by Lenox Hill in 1983. Apparently nobody noticed (or cared) until Hassan tried to get a driver’s license in New Jersey in 2007. Even after presenting a letter from the hospital indicating Hassan was indeed in possession of an XY chromosome, he was flagged by the DMV and denied a license. They insisted he get a letter from the hospital admitting they made a mistake.

Have you ever gotten a medical professional to admit they made a mistake?

Finally, Hassan had to resort to requesting a court order to force Lenox Hill to do a mea culpa. With the hospital fearing bad press, it suddenly started taking Hassan’s calls and a spokesperson said they were in touch with the city and Hassan’s lawyer to resolve the matter.

That all sounds fine, except for a comment from Hassan’s lawyer, Peter Madison, expressing his disbelief that the bearded Iraq War veteran had to go through so many hoops: “Have you seen him?” said Madison, “He’s not the bearded lady from the circus.”

Right, because the only person trying to change the gender on their birth certificate besides someone in Mr. Hassan’s predicament would be a circus freak? Nice way to crap all over trans men and women who deal with an inordinate amount of bullshit trying to clarify their paperwork.

The government may have proof your client has a penis, Mr. Madison, but we just got verification you’re a total dick.

PHOTOS: San Franciscans Celebrates A Blow To Hate With Prop 8 Ruling

While the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal’s Prop 8 ruling doesn’t automatically mean a win in California, it’s certainly a step in the right direction. And before we begin to fret that the right to marry in the Golden State now rests with a right-wing Supreme Court clique (who never invites us to eat lunch with them on the playground), there was plenty of hootin’ and hollering when the verdict was announced.

Ian Somerhalder Comes Within Biting Distance Of Paul Wesley On EW Cover

Not since True Blood‘s blood-splattered menage a troi Rolling Stone cover from 2010 have we seen such a lusty threesome as on the new cover of Empire Weekly, which teases us with the sexy cast of that other fang-banging drama, The Vampire Diaries.

The magazine released three different covers for the collector’s issue, but its this one that makes our blood run hot. And don’t think it wasn’t shot with an eye to the gay market. If you fold it over like an old MAD Magazine you pretty much get Ian Somerhalder naked in bed with co-star Paul Wesley. (No offense, Nina.)

Somerhalder’s never been shy about showing off his rockin’ body. After starting out as a model, he’s become a natural at taking his clothes off in shows like Lost and Tell Me You Love Me. After the jump are the other shots from the EW spread, plus some choice images of Somerhalder as TVD‘s Damon. Good thing he’s not really a vampire or he’d never show up in photos!

Forget the Grammys, Here’s 7 Queer Indie Bands You Should Be Listening To

The Grammys are coming up on Sunday, and though America’s most prestigious music honors will see gay faves (Adele, Lady Gaga, Pink), bisexuals (Nicki Minaj) and even those who brag about kissing a girl (Katy Perry) vie for awards, it’s probably the least gay of the EGOT (Emmy, Tony, Oscar, Grammy) series.

So here I’m going give some much-deserved attention to bands and solo acts that will probably never get any recognition by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. But they deserve to be recognized by you. Make some room on your iPod for Jonsi (above) and other all-too-often overlooked queer acts.
