This is probably the first (and hopefully only) time we’re telling you to tune into The View, but on today’s episode, Whoopie, Joy and whomever will reveal details about Astonishing X-Men #50—the beginning of the story arc that’s believed to lead to gay mutant superhero Northstar’s marriage to boyfriend Kyle—as part of their regular “hop topics” segment.

The issue, which hits stores on Wednesday, is known to lead into to June’s issue #51, which features “an X-Men wedding.” Maybe it’s cyborg lesbian telepath Karma tying the knot? We hear she’s got a U-haul all packed and ready to go.

On Saturday, Queen Latifah took the stage at Long Beach Pride, the first time the rapper-actress has performed at an LGBT event. Although there was no “Yup, I’m gay” moment, La gave a little T to the crowd.

Saying she’d “been waiting a long time to do this,” the Queen said she was proud to be among her people.

And welcome to the Matt Bomer school of coming out: An unspecific semi-acknowledgement at a public event where straight and gay celebrities often take the stage.

It’s the best of both worlds! In-the-know gays will think you’ve stage a big coming out and unsuspecting soccer moms won’t hear a thing about it. Movie career (or cosmetics contract) secured.

Last night, platinum-record-seller Jordin Sparks honored the late Whitney Houston with a heartwarming rendition of “I Will Always Love You” at the Billboard Music Awards. The two performers co-star in the upcoming movie musical Sparkle, Houston’s last film role before she died in February.

Sparks’ performance was part of a larger tribute to Houston—John Legend sang a beautiful rendition of “The Greatest Love of All,” and  Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, accepted the Millennium Award on behalf of her mother. “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all, not just from when it was good, but when it was bad, to just everything,” said Brown. “I’m just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman’s life. There will never be another one, ever.”

Today a new Jersey judge Glenn Berman sentenced Dharun Ravi to a 30-day jail term, three years’ probation to begin May 31. He was also fined a $10,000 assessment fee and required to perform300 hours of community service.

Though even gay-rights activists questioned whether Ravi should have served jail time at all, he’s received a significantly lighter sentence than the 10 years he could have possibly received.

The judge also recommended Ravi not be deported, though the final decision will be made by others.

Was the sentence fair? Did Ravi get off too lightly—or should he not have been charged at all?

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is guilty—of being true to his Catholic faith. The gay-marriage mob is guilty—of the very ugly bigotry it claims to abhor. And left-wing media outlets are guilty — of stoking false narratives that shamelessly demonize religion in the name of compassion.

The attempted crucifixion of Pacquiao this week was fueled by an online army of cultural shakedown artists, generously funded by billionaire George Soros and other so-called progressive philanthropists…

On Tuesday, a freelance writer for the Examiner.com published an interview with Pacquiao conducted at his Los Angeles residence. Journalist Granville Ampong asked the pugilist his views on gay marriage in light of President Obama’s flip-flop-flip on the issue.

‘God’s words first,’ Pacquiao said. ‘Obey God’s law first before considering the laws of man.’

After suggesting that Obama should consult the Bible as his ‘manual for life,’ Pacquiao added in earnest: “It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.’

The interview then included a scriptural reference to Leviticus 20:13, which states: “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Publications including USA Today, LA Weekly and Village Voice all ran outraged pieces on Pacquiao’s ‘homophobic’ calls for violence. But it was the interviewer, not Pacquiao, who made the citation. Ampong demanded apologies on behalf of Pacquiao. Feckless professional journalists blamed Ampong for their own biased reading and then grudgingly ‘clarified’ the truth in buried updates

This bigoted anti-bigot brigade mimics a wave of similar campaigns against both social and fiscal heretics who refuse to conform to ‘progressive’ values. Targets include Rush Limbaugh, the American Legislative Exchange Council, Mitt Romney donors, Wisconsin’s union-reforming governor, lieutenant governor and GOP state legislators, Catholic health care providers, and now black church leaders and boxers who dare to state their religious views publicly.

Let this be a teachable moment on pernicious “community organizing” and brazen liberal hypocrisy. There is nothing more intolerant and chilling than the self-appointed, self-unaware tolerance police.”

Windslowe, 42, is connected to a similar procedure which resulted in the death of British woman last year, and her passport has been revoked.

Pop-singer-turned-Broadway-star Nick Jonas took the stage at the 27th Annual AIDS Walk New York in Central Park yesterday, where he was joined by Nick Adams (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Audra McDonald (Porgy And Bess), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), Rory O’Malley (Book of Mormon), Carolee Carmello (Sister Act), singer Keri Hilson, Barrett Foa, David Hyde Pierce, fashion designer Jason Wu, Gay Men’s Health Crisis director Dr. Marjorie Hill, talk show host Wendy Williams and more than 45,000 other New Yorkers who walked to raise funds for GMHC and other AIDS charities. This year, walkers raised a grand total of $6,084,822.

On Sunday, the first-even Pride parade in The Ukraine was canceled when police claimed 500 right-wing soccer hooligans had gathered to block the march, held in Kiev. After attendees were evacuated by authorities, two LGBT activists still on the scene were tear gassed and beaten and by a dozen youths. “It has been clear from the start that the Kyiv police department did not want this march to go ahead. Their reluctance to commit to the event and to put adequate security measures in place to protect demonstrators left organizers fearing for their safety,” said Max Tucker, Ukraine campaigner at Amnesty International. New French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault (right) announced on Thursday that he is backing  President Francois Hollande’s same-sex-marriage pledge: “The Government is determined to challenge prejudice and to put an end to discrimination and violence. It will implement the commitment of the President of the Republic to the right to marriage and adoption to gay couples,” Ayrault said in a statement. [Pink News]

Israel’s Health Ministry announced on Sunday that gay men and single women would be allowed to conceive children through surrogacy, provided it was voluntary and not compensated. It’s a bittersweet victory for the country’s LGBT community after the Knesset voted down a marriage-equality bill put forth by the Meretz Party’s Nitzan Horowitz. [All Voices]

President Joyce Banda of Malawi announced she wants to overturn her country’s ban on same-sex acts. “Some laws which were duly passed by the august house… will be repealed as a matter of urgency. These include the provisions regarding indecent practices and unnatural acts.” Malawi is highly dependent on foreign assistance and insiders say Banda all too aware that world leaders like Hilary Clinton and David Cameron are connecting humanitarian aid to LGBT rights. Also on Sunday: The government in Queensland, Australia cut nearly $2.5 million in U.S. dollars from Queensland Association for Healthy Communities, an LGBT health and HIV awareness organization, saying its efforts to stem the epidemic weren’t working and the group was shifting its activities “away from AIDS/HIV to more general, political issues.” Healthy Communities director Paul Martin, who has to let 26 of his 35 employees go, says his group was only tasked with combating HIV among gay men, a group that has seen its numbers decrease. “It is unfair to blame Healthy Communities for the rise in HIV over the past 10 years, when we are only a relatively small player.” [9 News]

An anonymous gay Asian man living in New York has recounted his story of marrying a woman to stay in the United States to the New York Daily News, as part of a series on immigration. “We got married at City Hall. We had plenty of photos to show, people dressed up like a real wedding, we had a cake and everything… People brought gifts but they were just empty boxes.” [NYDN]

When we first saw the cover of the new issue of Candy, a the daring trans style bible, we thought it was Alison Goldfrapp or Florence Welch. It wasn’t until we read the description that we realized it was the very divine Tilda Swinton (Chronicles of Narnia, Orlando).

The ginger Amazon appears in a feature for “The Extra Extravagance Issue,” styled by Jerry Stafford and photographed by Xevi Muntane. Other photo features include a pregnant-male-model spread and lanky boys in dresses.

Just days after disco star Donna Summer passed away, Robin Gibb, one of the founders of the Bee Gees, has died at 62 following a battle with colon and liver cancer.

Gibbs announced his doctors found a growth in his colon in January but was reportedly responding well to treatment. Last month he contracted pneumonia and fell into a coma, though Gibbs did wake up and seem to recover.

“I sometimes wonder if all the tragedies my family has suffered, like Andy and Maurice dying so young and everything that’s happened to me recently, is kind of a karmic price we are paying for all the fame and fortune we’ve had,” Gibb told The Sun in March.

To date, the Bee Gees have sold more than 200 million albums, featuring longlasting hits like “Stayin’ Alive” and “Night Fever.” Their 1979 soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever standing as the top-selling album of all time until it was toppled by Thriller.

Brother Andy, who had a solo career, died at age 30 in 1988. Robin’s twin brother, Maurice, died in 2003.

Frankly, I couldn’t imagine myself denying a right to my neighbor, my fellow citizen, that I enjoy myself. I don’t think you can say we believe in equal rights for some people, but not for others. I think that’s a what they call an oxymoron. If you believe in equal rights, you help grant them to all of the people. I could not imagine myself saying to someone, I have a right, but not permit you to enjoy. I have to give it to everybody if i give it to anybody. That’s what Dr. King meant when he said, ‘Injustice breeds injustice everywhere.’

Basically it’s a civil-rights issue. It’s under the law that we have the right to affect a union, a covenant, a relationship, a marriage if you will, between two consenting people.”

This is a first for us—a repeat offender!

Union, NJ, teacher Viki Knox made Douche of the Week last October when she posted a 36-page homophobic screed claiming homosexuality was “a perverted spirit.” Now Knox wants to retire on a disability pension rather than face possible punishment.

Knox, a special-needs educator with the district since 2000, was incensed that her school had created a bulletin board in honor of LGBT History Month and proposed a GSA. So she took to the Web and crafted a rant that, among other things, likened being gay to having cancer:

Homosexuality is a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation… I have friends and loved ones who are practicing/living as homosexuals. Yes I love can care about them. We hug and exchange gifts. We have family dinners. But how they live and their actions, behaviors -CHOICES are against the nature and character of God! Do I tell me so? Yes, of course. Do I treat them bad? If course not! Jesus never did that to ANYONE he meant… I do not pretend to know ALL things. Nor do I pretend not to have biases, failings and faults. But I know sin and it breeds like cancer!

She also suggested teen girls lose their virginity to “professionals” rather than some fumbling adolescent:

As a 15 yr old girl, how many positive fulfilling sexual encounters has she had with a man to know or THINK she wants to only have sex with another female. Most of her experiences would have been with some male trying to practice his techniques and control on her. I haven’t run across any teenagers/young adults fortunate enough to be introduced to sexual relations by professionals: gigolo and escorts

The sword of justice moves slowly in education, though, and while Knox was put on suspension, a final decision about her future hasn’t been made.

Hoping to head things off at the pass, Knox filed a motion this month asking that her case be postponed so she can retire and file for a disability pension, “due to both a back injury and ‘psychological grounds,’” reports the New Jersey Star Ledger.

“If I can retire then there is no need for me to go through this unpleasant experience,” Knox stated in court papers.

“Although I continue to maintain that I have done nothing that warrants me being disciplined … the thought of going through a tenure trial causes a great deal of angst. Unfortunately for all concerned, this matter has already received great notoriety in the local community. Avoiding a hearing will allow the local community to start the healing process sooner.”

This woman is an angel—thinking of the community before herself.

Jenna Talackova (above) didn’t take the crown at the Miss Universe Canada contest yesterday, but the 6’2″ looker emerged a champion nonetheless: As the first openly transgender competitor in pageant history, she helped change the rules of the Miss Universe Organization.

“If you are legally recognized in your country and you’ve had your surgery and been through everything, you’d be able to compete in your country’s pageant,” said Paula Shugar, president of the organization. But Shugar admits that won’t be any help in countries that don’t provide legal recognition of a trans woman’s change in gender.

Wearing a white bikini and blinged-out heels, Talackova sashayed into the top 12 but was eliminated after the evening-gown segment. Sahar Biniaz, 26, won the competition, reports the Toronto Star, but Talackova was in a four-way tie for Miss Congeniality.

Oh, it’s a GREAT idea. It’ll get ALL the people who don’t have the guts to show up at a real testing center! Everyone has a DUTY to get tested to PROTECT other people, and ANYTHING we can do to get MORE tests is BETTER, right?

…until YOU’RE the one whose positive result blindsides you, with nothing more than a stick of plastic and a customer-service operator who’d rather be painting her nails than providing consolation. Suddenly, there are some rather glaring issues.

If someone isn’t mature/bold enough to go to a testing center, how are they supposed to be mature enough to handle a positive result? Alone? Perhaps while on a lunch break, or while a partner waits in the other room? If an HIV test is just too much strain for them, how the hell are they going to get hooked into the medical care that is necessary? Counseling is a vital link in the testing process. Without it, all you have is a result that tells you nothing, that protects no one and that could promote suicidal or homicidal reactions.

Or do we, as Queerty readers, merely accept that the value of human life ends abruptly at “your test came back positive”? That’s what I hear when people babble about the “NEED” to get tested for everyone, without understanding the roller coaster of emotions that arise if the results come back as something other than negative.

I tested positive from Home Access. The post-test counseling was a joke. There was no guidance to medical care, no emotional support, NOTHING. I was really lucky to live in a city with a fairly decent HIV support system, with friends who I hadn’t demonized for their status. If I’d been on my own, or if the result had come at a different time, things could have gone horribly wrong. I’ve heard similarly from other people who tested positive with home tests.

Justifying this test on the basis of “the need for testing” is to divorce the act of testing from anything that brings value to it, and implicitly, to wash our hands of the whole process in all its complexity. It demonstrates how little we value people who get “the wrong result” and it neglects the reality that many of these people may not behave as we’d like them to.

That’s right kiddos, a bitter faggot whose stick of plastic just told him he’s a pariah might not give a shit about YOUR health. In fact, he might even be out to get you.

…Or he might just decide to enjoy his new status more than he should and go a little wild, quickly allowing himself to become a “hub” in our spoke/hub model of transmission. Hell, in his despair, he might even remove a condom behind your back.

“OH NO!”

Suddenly, when your precious lives could be affected, it isn’t such a good idea, is it? Gee, maybe we want to make sure that these people aren’t bitter, disaffected and filled with a sense that they’ve got nothing to lose.

And hey, maybe, after screaming that “everyone has a duty to test” without giving two shits about what happens afterward, you’ll find yourself swabbing your cheek on a lunch break one day, only to determine that you’ve had contact with one of these maniacs who went off the deep end without a life saver. I hope you remember that it was all part of your obligation to avoid being a “public health hazard.”

That’s So Raven

“I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest,” she tweeted today. “I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m datings to know.”

The National Enquirer spilled the T on the 26-year-old television veteran who got her start on The Cosby Show, saying  “[Raven] is at a point now where she doesn’t care what her family thinks, and she’s in love with AzMarie.”

In a follow-up tweet, Symoné clarified her desire for privacy:  “I’m not one for a public display of my life. However that is my right as a HUMAN Being, whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I’m not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life. Kisses!”

That’s her right of course, but we’re not hearing a know.
