Sam Smith has won praise for a new track they debuted online yesterday. Smith recorded it as part of the Spotify Live Room series. It’s a cover of “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie.

Smith shared the track to Instagram and explained why the song meant so much to them.

“Fergie’s album ‘The Dutchess’ brought me so much joy as a kid. Not only was it insanely fun and full of pure bops, but it also had the killer and timeless ballad ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’,” Smith said.

“I never thought it would feel this good singing this song. I loved every second. I love you Fergie.”

Fergie was among those to respond, saying, “This is beautiful”

Others also praised Smith’s rendition.

“Nobody expected a 2000s Fergie cover to hurt this deeply,” said one person on YouTube. Another added, “I was not prepared to cry on the bus.”

Smith recorded two songs for the Spotify Live Room. The other was a version of their track “When He’s Gone”, which features on their forthcoming album, Hazel Eyes.

Whatever happened to Fergie?

Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson first found fame as a member of the Black Eyed Peas. The group’s breakthrough hit came in 2003 with “Where Is the Love?”.

In 2006, she released her debut solo album, The Duchess. It proved a monster success. The album itself reached No. 2 in the US and produced five Top 5 singles.

The fourth single, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. To date, it’s her longest-charting and highest-selling single in the US. It also hit No. 1 in several countries worldwide.

A simple pop ballad about getting over an ex, it marked a change in pace from the more hip-hop-influenced singles she’d released up until that date.

Produced by Will.i.am, Fergie and Toby Gad co-wrote the song.

Double Dutchess

Following the huge success of The Duchess, Fergie’s career has proved somewhat hit-and-miss. Why she never managed to follow it up with further big solo smashes is open to debate.

Firstly, after the album’s huge success, Fergie decided to initially return to working with the Black Eyed Peas. The Peas went on to release The E.N.D. in 2009 and The Beginning in 2010, with enormous hits including “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling”.

She and the band toured extensively, after which she wanted to take a break. Fergie also gave birth to her son, Axl, in 2013.

It wasn’t until that same year that she began work on a follow-up to The Duchess. A single in 2014, “L.A. Love (La La)”, reached a respectable 27 on the Billboard singles chart, but that would have been a disappointment after the success of earlier singles.

In 2017, she parted ways with her record label, Interscope. She also took a break from the Black Eyed Peas to concentrate on her solo career. Her second album, Double Dutchess, was released that year on her own imprint, Dutchess Music, as part of a global partnership with BMG Rights Management.

However, coming 11 years after its predecessor, many in the industry felt Fergie had left it too long and failed to capitalize on the success of The Duchess. The pop landscape had fundamentally moved on and was now dominated by artists with huge followings on streaming.

Double Duchess debuted at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and only sold a fraction of The Duchess.

Hiatus

In 2018, it was confirmed that Fergie’s departure from the Black Eyed Peas was not just a break but permanent. That year, she also made headlines for the wrong reasons, with a much-mocked live rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at an NBA All-Star game. Fergie performed a slowed-down, jazzy version of the song, and later said, “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Since then, Fergie has largely stepped back from the limelight. There has been no new music since 2017 and sporadic live performances.

Given Fergie’s absence from pop culture in recent years, Sam Smith’s tribute to one of her biggest hits has reminded many of her best-loved ballad.

Kari Lake still can’t find a gig!

Nearly 20 months into Tr*mp’s second reign of terror, the failed Arizona gubernatorial and senate candidate remains on the outside looking in.

Initially selected to lead Voice of America, the perennial election denier was never confirmed by the Senate. Instead, Tr*mp named her an advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a state-funded enterprise that reaches 420 million weekly listeners worldwide.

There, Lake proceeded to cut 85% of the workforce, putting more than 1,000 people out of work. This past March, a federal judge voided those layoffs, and ordered the Tr*mp administration to reinstate the affected journalists and staffers.

With her wreckage at USAGN wiped out, Lake was once again adrift. Then Tr*mp threw the anti-drag queen another life raft: Ambassador to Jamaica.

But, sadly, she might not even get that! Though GOP senators reluctantly voted to advance her nomination, she still hasn’t been confirmed.

In the interim, Tr*mp’s first term ambassador to the Caribbean island is campaigning against Lake’s appointment. Speaking to the Miami Herald, Donald Tapia pointed to her inglorious history of lying and incompetence.

“Kari Lake is not the person for Jamaica,” he said.

Hypocritical homophobia

As a failed candidate, Lake emphasized her apparent disregard for the LGBTQ+ community. She targeted drag queens in particular, falsely accusing them of infiltrating schools.

But then the hypocritical tea got spilled. A Phoenix queen who performs under “Barbra Seville” called Lake a longtime friend and posted photos of the two together. As a news anchor, Lake even interviewed her on TV.

“I’ve performed for Kari’s birthday, I’ve performed in her home (with children present,) and I’ve performed for her at some of the seediest bars in Phoenix,” she said.

Despite losing her race for governor–and then again for senator–Lake has continued her phony homophobia. When called in front of Congress last year, she attempted to gay-shame Arizona Democratic rep. Greg Stanton. Lake referenced nonexistent rumors about the former Phoenix mayor having a “gay lover.” (Phoenix New Times dug into the accusation, and found it to be bogus.)

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the irony of Lake, who’s tried to build her political career on the scorn of homophobia, facing a rocky road in her quest to be ambassador to one of the most homophobic countries in the world.

“A lightweight appointment”

Though low-pressure ambassadorships are often filled with a president’s friends or donors, Tr*mp is taking the cronyism to new extremes. A whopping 90% of his ambassador nominations have gone to supporters.

In the Miami Herald piece, Obama’s former ambassador to Jamaica suggested that Tr*mp nominated Lake for the post because she isn’t qualified for any roles in D.C. “They had to park her someplace,” said Luis Moreno.

He went on to call Lake a “lightweight appointment,” and said he wouldn’t expect her to contribute to the U.S.-Jamaica relationship in a productive way.

“It’s what we would call a lightweight appointment,” he said. “I would expect lightweight efforts on her part.”

Though Lake is thirsty for any role, we know that she probably has her eyes set on press sec. She was floated this week in the NY Post as a possible replacement for the departing Karoline Leavitt. That’s a big job!

As someone put it on X, how will Lake fulfill her duties while also being Arizona’s governor and a U.S. senator? Good thing she’ll probably never have that dilemma!

So, it’s safe to say we are already seated.

Trust the Man follows an Army Intelligence officer who’s on assignment investigating a decorated soldier with a murky past during the Vietnam War.

According to its official log line, “As surveillance and interrogation deepen, the line between loyalty and obsession blurs, leading both men into a dangerous and uncontrollable connection.”

While it’s unclear at the moment which actor is playing whom, it’s safe to assume the leading roles will be filled by Radcliffe and Groff, who signed onto the project in June after Lucas Hedges exited due to scheduling issues.

On the plus side, we already know Radcliffe and Groff have incredible chemistry after their run together in Broadway’s Merrily We Roll Along, which won Best Revival of a Musical at the 2024 Tony Awards.

(The show also gave us THAT incredibly hilarious video where Groff began telling his co-stars about how wet he gets on stage, at which point Radcliffe cut him off with a strict, “No.” LOL.)

On top of that, the cast is rounded out by a who’s-who list of Hollywood juggernauts, including Kate Mara, Finn Wittrock, and queer actors Victor Garber, Angus O’Brien from Boots, and Justice Smith, who recently nabbed a role in the second season of Heated Rivalry.

And while details on the additional characters have yet to be revealed, we’ve got a good feeling about this one, considering Graham’s résumé.

The queer writer and director, who got their start in comedy on The Onion News Network, scored an Emmy nomination for their directing work on Daisy Jones & The Six.

Plus, they co-created Prime Video’s short-lived A League of Their Own series alongside Broad City star Abbi Jacobson, which was hailed for its bold inclusivity of queer and BIPOC characters.

When the show was unceremoniously yanked by Amazon after just one season, Graham shared a powerful and heartfelt message to its LGBTQ+ fans on X.

“You are not small, niche, modest, off-putting or marginal, and neither are your stories,” Graham wrote at the time.

“You are multitudes, you are building, and your stories are universal … You are powerful. You are the future, and the people who don’t recognize your importance now will [be] clamoring to catch up in a few years.”

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details regarding a release date or distribution for Trust the Man yet.

But based on some fan footage of Groff and Radcliffe filming over the summer in Montclair, New Jersey, it looks like we’re in for a wild ride.

Deena says Brenda was born in 1940 and knew that she didn’t like men, but in those days, “it wasn’t heard of.”

Health scares

Asked what their favorite thing is about each other, they both reply “everything.” They exchange looks of clear adoration for one another.

Deena goes on to say she loves Brenda’s “little wrinkles and grey hair.”

“We’ve known each other for about 30 years and got married three years ago,” adds Deena.

She goes on to explain that Brenda was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer. Brenda ended up in ICU and actually died, prompting medical staff to undertake urgent CPR to bring her back to life. In that instant, Deena realized “I couldn’t live without her, so we got married.”

As for advice for younger couples who are just starting out, Deena says, “You’ll know if it’s the right person for you, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a woman or a man, it’s actually the person.”

The video appeared over the weekend. It’s already earned over 5 million views on TikTok and half a million on Instagram.

Johnston, 30, grew up in Ruth, Carolina. At the age of 12, he discovered voiceover work. With the help of the internet, he set up a recording studio in his bedroom and began auditioning for commercials and animations.

After finishing High School, and with little acting work in Ruth, he moved with his dad to Chicago to pursue his acting studies. Six months later, he relocated to Los Angeles to chase his Hollywood dreams.

Johnston’s breakout role was on MTV’s Teen Wolf between 2015 and 2017.

Johnson, who is gay, tagged his dad in both photos. It turns out his name is also Mike Johnston. He’s a singer in a rock and country band called Mike Johnston Band.

Following the success of Obsession, which took over $400million against a budget of $750,000, Johnston is next in line for a role in The Mummy 4.

That seems to be Melania Tr*mp’s motto in life, and certainly since becoming First Lady of the United States for the second time.

The Daily Beast recently audited the 56-year-old FLOTUS’s diary to see just how often she’s been out and about in public since her 80-year-old husband took office for round two.

The verdict?

Politics, but make it gay!

In the past year and a half, she’s made fewer than 100 public appearances, comprising a mere 47 days in 2025 and only 38 sightings so far in 2026.

Per The Daily Beast:

The first lady was last seen in mid-July, when she attended the final of the soccer World Cup with her husband. But that was one of a tiny number of public appearances she has made all year.

In July alone, she skipped three major events in as many weeks, bringing fresh attention to her status as one of the least-active first ladies in the country’s modern history.

A Daily Beast analysis can reveal that the first lady has participated in an official event—or even just been photographed in public—at an average of just once every six days in 2026.

Tell us you don’t give a sh*t about your job without telling us you don’t give a sh*t about your job.

Oh wait…

The Daily Beast was generous in what it considered a “public appearance”, too.

In its analysis of Melania’s diary, it included when she called that emergency White House press conference to demand people stop linking her to Jeffrey Epstein, when she was photographed stepping off Air Force One in February, and showing up three whole times to plug her flop documentary Melania.

Oh, and speaking of that documentary, despite being a complete bomb, earning less than $17 million on a $40 million budget plus $35 million marketing spend by Amazon MGM Studios, the first lady is reportedly busy working on a follow-up docuseries that will “explore her work in the White House, family life, career, and philanthropic projects during the early days of her husband’s second term.”

But if her diary is any indication, there’s not going to be very much to, well, document.

Of course, none of this is all that surprising. Not only did Melania phone things in during her husband’s first term, she didn’t even bother campaigning with him in 2024. She didn’t go to any of his rallies, she watched his attempted assassination on TV after the fact (“I ran to the TV, and I rewind it [sic], and I watched it,” she recounted later), and she couldn’t even be bothered to read a short, plagiarized speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

She did, however, find time to host a formal dinner for Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ autocrat Viktor Orban at Mar-a-Lago, where she presented him with a giant bouquet of flowers, which he later posted about on his Instagram Stories, along with the caption, “Pretty Woman.”

Of course, all this begs the question… Do Americans even give a sh*t? Do they really want to see Melania in public? According to recent polling, the answer is a resounding, um, probably not.

In April, CNN reported Melania was the most unpopular first lady in modern history. In addition to that, her net approval rating was the lowest it had ever been at -12 points. Yes, you read that correctly. Her unfavorable views outpaced her favorable ones by double digits.

So maybe she’s actually doing us all a favor by keeping her schedule light? Turns out, “I really don’t care, do U?” is a two-way street.

Hi Jake,

Bicurious guy here. I’ve been thinking about checking out a gay resort, or maybe even a men’s spa, for a while now. What’s holding me back is that because I’m not fully “gay” or experienced with this stuff, I have no idea what would be expected of me.

For example, maybe I’d just want to keep to myself at first and be a voyeur. Or maybe I’d be interested in hooking up if the chemistry felt right and it was the right situation. But either way, I’d want to go at my own pace.

I guess my biggest fear is getting there, realizing I’m in over my head, and looking like I have no idea what I’m doing.

Are there certain expectations when you go to places like this? Do I need to be prepared for someone to touch me, or for there to be things I’m expected to do so I don’t get called out or made to feel weird?

I imagine there are some unwritten rules of etiquette at these places. What are they? And what happens if I’m not ready to play by them?

Bi the Book

Dear Bi the Book,

The great thing about sexuality is that you truly get to define it for yourself. And that goes beyond whatever label you happen to assign yourself when writing into a queer advice column.

Your sexuality is yours to own completely. That means you also get to decide which experiences you’re comfortable exploring, what boundaries you want to set, and how far you want to go once you’re there.

So let’s get one thing out of the way: Buying a day pass to a men’s spa or booking a room at a gay resort is not a blanket consent form. You don’t owe anyone sex, touching, or even an explanation for why you’re there.

Of course, different places have different vibes. A clothing-optional gay resort in Palm Springs may be sexually charged, but not everyone is there to hook up. Some guys are there to socialize, sunbathe, swim, flirt, or simply enjoy being naked. A men’s spa or bathhouse may be more explicitly sexual, so expect guys to cruise you or express interest.

But expressing interest and having permission to touch you are two different things.

The unwritten rules aren’t that complicated. You can look, flirt, or watch what’s happening around you. You can indicate interest, and someone can indicate interest in you. But nobody gets automatic access to your body just because you walked through the door.

It depends where you are, but some people like to signal interest by inching towards you, making eye contact, or even reaching a hand out. But that doesn’t mean you need to reciprocate. You can always politely move away, shake your head, say “no thanks,” or even gently remove their hand if you need to. You never need to apologize, much less explain where you are on your bisexual journey.

The same goes if you are interested. Maybe you flirt, and that’s enough. Maybe you make out. Maybe you start fooling around and realize you’d rather stop. Consent isn’t a contract you sign at the beginning of an encounter. You’re allowed to change your mind at any point.

As for being a voyeur, at some places, watching is definitely part of the culture. But just because someone is willing to have sex out in the open doesn’t necessarily mean they want an audience, or additional participants. Always pay attention to the physical cues. Are they smiling and looking at you, or even gesturing to come closer? Or, on the contrary, are they turning their back, closing a door, or not giving you the time of day? The best approach is to start by giving space, then assess and decide how to proceed from there.

I’d also take some pressure off yourself about looking inexperienced. Nobody was born knowing gay bathhouse etiquette. Every guy comfortably wandering around in a towel once had a first time too.

I’d make your first visit deliberately low-stakes. Go to check out the place rather than do anything sexual. Walk around, get comfortable, and see how you feel. If something happens that you’re excited about, great. If you spend two hours observing the wildlife and go home, that’s also a perfectly successful field trip. In fact, some say simply being there has benefits to your mental health!

The goal isn’t to prove you’re gay enough, adventurous enough, or experienced enough to belong there. It’s to explore something you’re curious about without surrendering your right to decide what happens next.

So go ahead and be curious. Just remember that being Bi the Book doesn’t mean you have to do everything that’s in it.

Such a remarkable force of a woman could only be embodied by Nicole Kidman. The song’s accompanying visual — directed by Gordon von Steiner — follows Kidman as she walks through New York City, dressed to the nines, cigarette in hand. Throughout the day, she is surrounded by drag performers, dancers, and DJs — all of whom are women and feminine-presenting. Sasha Colby also makes a notable appearance in the video.

Toward the end, we see Kidman and Sivan embracing on the dancefloor, tapping into a soft, protective intimacy. This comes juxtaposed with footage of Sivan serving next-level c*nt in drag.

This isn’t the first time Sivan and Kidman have worked together. Both of them starred in the 2018 movie Boy Erased, in which Kidman played the conservative mother of a gay son named Jared Eamons (Lucas Hedges). Sivan plays Gary, another gay boy Jared meets at conversion camp. Thankfully, Kidman is a lot more queer-friendly in the “She’s The Best” video.

Over the course of Sivan’s illustrious career, many of his collaborations have been with remarkable women. In addition to acting alongside Kidman, Sivan has collaborated vocally with Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and more. He also acted alongside Lily Rose Depp in HBO’s godawful short-lived series The Idol.

Sivan’s last album era for 2023’s Something to Give Each Other highlighted his sexuality — glory holes, bathhouses, and all. But for his latest, She’s the Best, Sivan is honoring the women of all expressions who have paved the way for him.

“She’s the Best is a painting that captures my life in all of its moods and colours,” said Sivan in a statement. “It explores the high-octane highs of the last few years, and the solitude and longing that sat underneath. It’s chaotic, layered, organic, troubled and alive. It feels like the truest and most creative version of myself I’ve ever shared. At some point along the way I realised – the only constant in my life keeping me somewhat sane has not been the work, or the men, but the feminine. Thank god for them.”

Fans can look forward to hearing She’s the Best in full on Friday, October 9.
