The most remarkable part of the Knicks’ playoff run is the way they’ve united New York City. Across all five boroughs, watch parties are ubiquitous and fans flood the streets. The communal experience stands in stark contrast to the gilded house where our president prefers to insulate himself.

When D*n*ld Tr*mp crashed the Knicks’ playoff party Monday night, watch parties outside Madison Square Garden were canceled and fans waited hours in line for security. It didn’t matter that most people inside of MSG shelled out thousands of dollars for tickets. They were all inconvenienced for the sake of Tr*mp’s bruised ego.

He ascended into his private suite sometime before tip-off, and was surrounded by bulletproof glass. When his bloated mug appeared on the Jumbotron, the sold-out crowd booed.

The rancid vibes lasted throughout Game 3, which the Knicks lost. But it’s not like Tr*mp saw much of the game. Cameras caught him sleeping throughout the affair. (Meanwhile, Mamdani paid roughly $1,000 for a standing-room-only ticket available to VIPs.)

Tr*mp was invited by Knicks owner James Dolan, a mercurial cable magnet whose father gifted him billions. The most petulant owner in sports, Dolan was exposed earlier this spring for running an elaborate, clandestine security state at MSG. Thin-skinned and power hungry, he seems determined to make the Knicks’ intoxicating playoff run about himself. Before Game 4, he escalated his feud with Zohran Mamdani and canceled the permitted watch party outside of MSG. Dolan remarked that Tr*mp is a true Knicks fan, while Mamdani is not.

But the popular mayor pivoted like he’s Karl-Anthony Towns in the paint. Within hours of Dolan’s abrupt cancellation, Mamdani moved to show the Knicks game on Link screens across the city. Judging by social media, it doesn’t seem like anybody in New York missed the Knicks’ incredible comeback last night.

Dolan tried to wall off the Knicks as part of a power play. Mamdani returned them to the people.

A queer basketball party

Mamdani is known for celebrating big moments at queer venues: he soaked in his mayoral win with an epic gay bar crawl. On Wednesday night, that trend continued.

The Mayor enjoyed the action at Singers, a subversive space in Brooklyn that hosts pop-up sauna raves, lube wrestling, cigarette races, and their marquee attraction, Twinks vs. Dolls.

There, Mamdani reunited with NYC council member Chi Ossé. Longtime allies, their relationship hit a snag when Mamdani didn’t back Ossé’s potential congressional campaign. But now, they appear to be over their rough patch.

Proving the Knicks are a true citywide experience, gay watering holes from Hell’s Kitchen to deep Brooklyn erupted when OG Anunoby tipped in Jalen Brunson’s missed jumper with just seconds remaining.

Keeping the good vibes going, Mamdani began Thursday with a Pride Month post.

Socializing sports

Sports are supposed to be a collective experience. That concept is anathema to Tr*mp, Dolan and other MAGA billionaires. They want to whisk past the public and head up to their private suites while everybody else waits in long security lines.

Unfortunately, sports are following in that direction. Games are now on various subscription services and ticket prices are astronomical. With Finals tickets costing at least $3,500, only the rich and connected can sit court side at MSG.

But Mamdani is making every effort to socialize the Knicks: screens in public, raucous street parties, impromptu gatherings. In that sense, it’s fitting that he would enjoy an epic Knicks Finals win at a queer bar.

Once the queer liberation movement swept through cities across the country, the 1970s was a time when gay bars truly evolved from if-you-know-you-know secret community gathering places to full-fledged businesses where nightlife thrived.

And while these hot-spots gave many of us a venue where we could truly cut loose, dance, and feel free to be our authentic selves, they weren’t exactly safe spaces for all.

In fact, a number of early gay bars were pretty strict about who they let in. West Hollywood’s iconic Studio One, for example, was notorious for turning people of color away at the door during its first decade of operations. And if you were a woman, forget about going out dancing with the guys!

That was a reality Jewel Thais-Williams frequently experienced first-hand as a Black, lesbian in the ’70s. After her family moved from the Midwest to San Diego, she attended college at UCLA and began to explore her interest in other women. But she was rarely allowed into the clubs many of the gay men she knew were going to.

So, with what little money she had from operating a boutique clothing store with her sister, Thais-Williams managed to purchase what was then called the Diana Club in LA’s Arlington Heights neighborhood, reopening it in 1973 as Jewel’s Catch One.

Named after a popular phrase at the time—gays would go out to catch someone to come home with them—she envisioned it as a place where all would truly be welcome, and anyone within the queer community would be free to party, mingle, and just maybe catch one, if they were lucky.

In the early days, Thais-Williams faced plenty of pushback, with folks unwilling to work for a Black woman, or take her seriously. But she stuck firmly to her mission, and Jewel’s Catch One thrived, attracting all manner of clientele, and in particular Black queer folks.

And, by the time the ’90s rolled around, the bar had a reputation as one of the premier nightlife destinations in LA, bringing in some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, from Madonna (who held her Music album release party at the club in 2000) to Whitney Houston Whoopi Goldberg—to name a few.

However, in 2015, with rising costs of operations, Catch One faced closure, so Thais-Williams made the difficult decision to sell the space (it was initially renamed Union before reverting back to Catch One, which is still in operation today).

Yet she left behind quite a legacy: Not only is Jewel’s Catch One considered the longest running Black, gay dance club in LA, but Thais-Williams is the first Black woman to own an LGBTQ+ nightclub in the entire country. And the space she created has become a cultural institution that, over the decades, shaped Black & queer identity in Los Angeles and beyond.

In the final years of Thais-Williams’ ownership of the bar, filmmaker C. Fitz set out to document her trailblazing success and tell the story of how she broke down racial & cultural barrier with Catch One.

Initially released in 2016 to great acclaim, the documentary Jewel’s Catch One features plenty of incredible photos & videos from within the historic bar accompanied by a truly eye-opening interview with Thais-Williams herself, as well as many of her famous patrons like Jenifer Lewis, Sharon Stone, and disco queen Thelma Houston (even Madonna appears in some rare archival footage).

After a celebrated festival run, the doc was streamable on Netflix for a number of years, but has since disappeared from the streamer, leaving many to worry this important document of queer history would be lost to time.

But now Freestyle Digital Media has secured the rights to the film, and in memory of Thais-WIlliams, who passed last summer, they will be releasing it on digital/VOD platforms on June 16; perfect timing for Pride Month and just ahead of the Juneteenth holiday, too!

So next time you go out to the gay bar—no matter who you are, or how you identify—make sure you thank Jewel Thais-Williams for helping pave the way to makes these spaces more inclusive for all.

Many congratulations to Becky and Savannah Burke. This week, the couple announced they are expecting a second child.

Becky Burke, 36, is the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at The University of Arizona. She’s also a former player for the Louisville Cardinals and was part of the team that were runners-up in the NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament in 2009.

She and Savannah, 30, were married in 2023.

The women shared photos of themselves holding up images of a pregnancy scan and with their young son, Banks. An accompanying caption said, “Burke family update! Baby girl coming December, 2026!”

Many people congratulated the women on their happy news.

However, trolls quickly began to flood the comments or quote-tweet the announcement. They added their own homophobic take, often making false claims about the kids of same-sex parents or calling for an overturn of the Supreme Court’s Obergefell ruling.

Eventually, Becky felt moved to respond.

Yesterday, she posted a defiant statement to remind people, “Our happiness isn’t yours to approve. ”

“Yesterday, my wife and I shared the news that we are expecting a baby,” Becky began.

“Unfortunately, the announcement also brought some of the most hateful comments we’ve ever seen. While we knew sharing our lives publicly would come with opinions, it’s been disappointing to see so much negativity directed at what is one of the happiest moments of our lives.

“Let me be VERY clear. Our announcement is about something much bigger than us,” Burke continued. “Representation matters. Visibility matters. As a public figure, I take great pride in representing my community and helping create that visibility. Our announcement is for people who have spent years wondering whether a future like this was possible for them. It’s about showing people in our community that families like ours exist, that they are real, and that they deserve to be celebrated too.

“Maybe it would have been easier to take my post down. To be ashamed,” Becky said.

“But if you think that, you clearly don’t know me. I will not let hate win. I will stand up and speak for those in our community who can’t. At the end of the day, this isn’t about politics or proving a point. My focus will remain where it belongs: on my growing family, our incredible support system and continuing to live authentically.

“To everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, and shared in our excitement – thank you. Your kindness has meant more than you know.”

Some of the women that Becky coaches also came to her defence.

“Supporting good humans having beautiful babies should be on everyone’s agenda, regardless of your team,” said one, adding that using religious belief to “target a member of the LGBTQ community is low-class trash behavior and won’t be tolerated. This isn’t the f*cking Spanish Inquisition. As someone who has a gay cousin named Jennifer married to a wonderful woman named April who have two awesome kids, I can attest they are wildly happy and thriving just as Becky and her family are doing. On that note, Becky Burke is my coach and anyone who says vile sh*t to her can go f*ck themselves.”

The onslaught of hate also prompted a swathe of further support for the Burke family.

Gay men cruising the Castro are encountering a terrifying problem. In several popular gay bars, it’s not enough to have a photo ID. You also have to get a face scan.

The question is: Why?

San Francisco Gazeteer reporter Cydney Hayes looked into the scans after an incident at a Castro bar. What Hayes found was disturbing to say the least.

Hayes found that Mix, along with several other Castro bars like Badlands and Toad Hall, are using face scanners from a company called PatronScan. According to one Redditor, a violent incident with an angry patron last year at Mix prompted the implementation of The Guard+, a model is advertised to bar owners as a way to catch fake IDs and keep track of unruly customers.

But they do plenty more than that. These machines collect information from patrons including “names, addresses, genders, and even how they behave inside the bar.”

They also share that information with a connected network of other machines in bars nearby. The idea is logging this info can keep bar owners apprised of a “blacklist” of offensive guests, but the reality is much starker. The scanners collect and compile information that allegedly gets deleted after 30 days, unless a patron exhibits “bad behavior.” In that case, it stays in the database.

As you can imagine, it’s a pretty grim discovery for guests, who would only know about their data being harvested if they took the time to read the fine print below the kiosk.

It gets even creepier when you learn that the company behind the scanner has faced several legal battles concerning what some call a misleading surveillance model. One class action lawsuit even defined the technology as “Orwellian.”

There’s an added edge when we’re talking about gay bars, where patrons come to drink, dance, and in some cases, remain anonymous. Patronscan’s tech isn’t even allowed to be used by the police or city services. But it’s fine for private businesses to use it, for the present.

“It’s really not great to have lists of gay people,” one interviewee noted. Not under this administration!

Mix is gay-owned, another confusing detail that brings up questions about the safety of face-scanning tech that could feasibly out people to other businesses. The face scanner isn’t cheap, either: the kiosk could cost owners over $4,000 per year, per venue.

According to Hayes, none of the Castro bars in question responded to requests for comment on the implementation of the facial recognition tech.

For bar owners looking to firm up security, it could be a more effective option than a bouncer. But if the data of LGBTQ+ patrons is being collected and stored, there’s a high risk of it being mined or sold.

The threats to the queer community are heightened, but even straight people are pretty freaked out by the technology.

“People are not expecting that kind of collection and retention when they go to an establishment,” writer and activist Hayley Tsukayama said of the technology in 2024. “It’s a mismatch for consumer expectations, and for that reason, I think it is concerning and there should be more transparency.”

For a community that has plenty to fear from being surveilled, absolutely. Last year, before the fall of Viktor Orban, the formally illegal Budapest Pride celebrations were further targeted by facial recognition technology that threatened to out and criminalize participants. That’s an extreme case, but as attacks on the LGBTQ+ community ramp up in this country, it’s a sobering warning of how the watchdog tech could be distorted for more ominous use.

Madonna’s homage to the NYC club that first played her music is facing competition from a legendary gay group’s own love letter to the same spot.

On Monday, the Queen of Pop released Confessions II – The Film. The wild 13-minute short sees Madonna battle crotch lasers, camera-wielding storm troopers, car crashes and then turn a co-ed bathroom into the hottest party in town alongside celebs like Benedict Cumberbatch, Honey Dijon, Gwendoline Christie ,and longtime BFF Debi Mazar.

It’s during that star-studded scene that Madonna’s new track “Danceteria” plays throughout. The song is a tribute to her old stomping ground and was crucial to the launch of her superstar career.

Amid the thumping beat, the 67-year-old icon describes getting a cassette tape of “Everybody” to the club’s influential DJ Mark Kamins, which would eventually lead to a record deal with Sire Records. The rest as they say is herstory!

“Danceteria” has been a hit with fans as many are calling for it to be the next single off Confessions on Dance Floor – Part II.

The real Danceteria

In the early ’80s, Danceteria was one of the hottest clubs in Manhattan.

Located at 30 West 21st Street, Danceteria was in many ways the antithesis to that other storied NYC club, Studio 54. While Studio’s Midtown crowd of A-listers and wannabes was known for glitz and glamour, Danceteria was grittier and served an edgier, more avant-garde downtown crowd.

Soft Cell

Madonna isn’t alone in romanticizing about her nights inside the hallowed halls of Danceteria.

Gay synth-pop duo Soft Cell have just dropped their new single “Danceteria” and it too is obviously centered on the seminal NYC club.

As Soft Cell, vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist Dave Ball helped usher in the second British invasion of musical artists in the ’80s and gained massive success with their 1981 hit “Tainted Love.”

“Danceteria” is the title track off the group sixth and final album following Ball’s death last year at the age of 66.

Name-check Madonna

That queer joy is expressed in Soft Cell’s celebratory electro-disco bop. The lyrics describe a typical night inside Danceteria’s seedy fabulousness, while the chorus personifies the elation (natural or augmented) its denizens experienced.

Higher than higher than higher than high/ Higher than you and higher than I/ Up on the roof, we were kissing the sky/At Danceteria, me, you, and I.

Soft Cell even name-checks Madonna, who Almond recalled seeing her first live performance at the club in 1982.

That mythic moment gets referenced in the song lyric: Madonna was singing to a boombox beat/My head had gone numb, but I was moving my feet.

Both Madonna and Soft Cell releasing tributes to Danceteria prove the impact it had on shaping their early careers. The synchronicity of both coming out within days of each other further illustrates the eternal bond the club has forged for two contemporaries with diverse musical legacies.

Madonna’s decision to revisit her disco roots with a sequel to Confessions on a Dance Floor and Soft Cell’s nostalgic turn following Ball’s passing both led them back to Danceteria.

And for those of us who were never lucky enough to kiki inside its hallowed walls, we now have two ways to get a touch of that Danceteria experience.

If Tr*mp thought he could deny his way out of the defining scandal of his second presidential term, he thought wrong. After yesterday’s explosive New York Times report, Americans are learning the true extent of the White House freakout around the Epstein file release, and it’s a terrible look for JD Vance, Todd Blanche, Susie Wiles, and the other cursed cabinet members who plotted to spin the fallout in the president’s favor.

In fact, Blanche, Wiles, and Vance are now facing possible subpoena action after the exposé. Maggie Haberman’s piece, an excerpt from her forthcoming book Regime Change with Jonathan Swann about Tr*mp’s presidential scandals, was juicy enough to get everyone in trouble. Now, Tr*mp’s White House is panicked to find themselves on the defense after months of speculation and Epstein-related scandal.

“The investigation on Capitol Hill is actually ramping up,” after the piece, Aaron Parnas reports. In the wake of so many disturbing details about the joint effort to protect Tr*mp from the Epstein drama—including secret situation room spin sessions—even Republicans are expressing distaste with the current administration.

“We have questions,” Rep. James Comer said specifically concerning Todd Blanche’s role in the cover-up. With the acting AG poised to become the permanent AG, the timing on this Epstein bombshell couldn’t be worse for Tr*mp’s lawyer.

“It’s not enough to just get Blanche in,” said Ranking Oversight Committee Democrat Robert Garcia. “We have to have Blanche under oath, it’s got to be videotaped and released to the public.”

Comer wants to press Blanche about exactly how many files are left to release—and why he’s still defying the law by not making them public. Following up on Madeline Dean’s explosive grilling of Blanche last week, Comer and other Republicans are eager to divorce their entire party from the Epstein scandal, even if it means breaking ties with Tr*mp. Now they’re joining forces with Democrats threatening to force a subpoena on Blanche, and it doesn’t look good for the tight-lipped Tr*mp loyalist.

Meanwhile, Epstein Files Transparency Act co-author Ro Khanna is teasing even bigger Epstein bombshells to come. At this point, Epstein’s crimes are no longer the story: the cover-up is. Khanna, along with co-author Thomas Massie, has been at the head of the call to release the entirety of the files with proper redactions made.

Despite Massie’s primary loss last month, he’s been instrumental in getting his fellow House Republicans to see the light and break from Tr*mp before it’s too late. The latest bombshell could prompt an even bigger tipping of the scale, and lose Mike Johnson his precious House majority for good. Here’s hoping!

On a personal note, it’s also deeply embarrassing for Tr*mp to learn that everyone on his staff has been meeting behind his back to try and quash the Epstein fallout. With Haberman’s book slated for a late June release, it’s going to make for a very unpleasant birthday surprise for Tr*mp.

Even with all the distractions Tr*mp has thrown at the public in the past few months, including a war in Iran, an unconstitutional slush fund, and the neverending ballroom saga, Jeffrey Epstein’s ghost refuses to fade into the background. Whether Tr*mp likes it or not, the Epstein scandal is becoming the defining detail of his second term in office, and in the coming years, it’s going to make Watergate look like a mere blip by comparison.

David Kam’s lifelong relationship with movement didn’t begin on the best of terms. Growing up near Malaysia’s capital city, he remembers shrieking in gym class when asked to run or compete athletically.

Ironically, it was right before the biggest move of his life when Kam fell in love with his body in motion. Like many Malaysians of certain ambitions, he planned to emigrate to the U.K. for educational and professional opportunities. While Kam was excited for the transition, he was distraught over leaving his mom, his best friend in the entire world.

Searching for a way to stay connected, they summoned inspiration from the yoga billboard across the street. “Should we check that out, mom?,” Kam remembers asking.

Years later, Kam and his mom are still moving through the world together, even if they’re nearly 7,000 miles apart.

Though Kam initially moved to the U.K. to study architecture, he relocated to London so he could pursue dance. Now a renowned yogi, Kam calls his practice “beyond asana.” In yoga, “asana” is a Sanskrit term that describes the practice’s postures or poses.

To go beyond asana, Kam begins with a traditional posture, and then moves into more of a free form flow. The goal is to achieve flow state, where one moves in accordance with their natural rhythm.

“Your body is your home,” says Kam. “Your body is what carries you.”

In between flows, Queerty recently caught up with Kam to chat about what carries him, his favorite posture and that time he practiced near smoking pork belly. Here’s what he had to say…

QUEERTY: What can you tell about somebody through their movement?

DAVID KAM: We communicate so much nonverbally, even down to posture. If we were to strictly talk about just the way people move, what I tend to see is the way people interact with the floor. The steps they take, the way their hands arrive on the ground. You can see the kind of effort and sensitivity they have and the reflexive energy they default towards. You see their level of tentativeness. There’s no right or wrong. That’s just the way we work. You also notice rhythms and the way people move and even breathe. Those rhythms give me a good indication of whether you’re someone who’s more fiery or someone who’s more go with the flow. You can see how some people emphasize the beginning of a movement or emphasize the end of the movement, or they’re lost in the middle. That translates to people who are five hours early before a flight, or they’re dilly-dallying and arrive two minutes before the plane takes off and think they still have time.

What’s one thing about practicing yoga that people don’t know about?

You can start any time or anywhere. I still feel, sadly, the No. 1 thing I hear is, “I’m not flexible enough.” Well, then start! I also think flexibility is overrated. At least in my practices, I advocate for mental flexibility. It’s about the agility of how you respond to situations. You could be the strongest person in the room, you could be the most flexible person in the room. But if you don’t know how to apply either, it’s useless. How are you applying all of these things you’re learning in your body? Yes, we do all of these things and I notice all of this dedication within the wellness industry. But how is it actually translating day-to-day?

You just hosted a retreat in Mexico. Where are your favorite places to practice?

Wow… by far, my favorite was in Norway. I was in Norway last October, and it was just the most beautiful landscape. You could drink from the lakes there—fresh out of the lake. Northern lights, the sun was shining for us. That’s a part of retreats: you bring yourself away from your everyday and be completely immersed in nature. That being said, I feel like peace sometimes can be not overrated, but pressured towards a specific kind of container. “I can only feel peaceful when I’m at a retreat, or when I’m in this cube of a space.” But the fact is, you can find peace anywhere. Peace is really a state of mind. Going back to mental flexibility, how can you play with intention, so you can channel your energy towards where it needs to be? But yes, retreats are amazing!

Where’s one of the more unusual places you’ve practiced?

Good question… it’s a tricky one. I would say, on a bridge somewhere. It was an event where we were trying to play into the power of the masses. A flash mob, but with yoga. I like how it shifts people’s minds: “maybe that’s for me too.” I remember clearly, it was a community yoga session. People could walk up and hop in and practice. I love that, because sometimes I would have these conversations. I talked to a dad who was like, “I brought my whole family here, because it’s a free thing.” I love that! They came together, because yoga was an accessible way for them to move as a family.

Another place… I teach yoga to elderly people of South Asian descent at a community center in North London. We were practicing yoga in a courtyard and this [vendor] was smoking pork belly. So the air smelled like pork belly! We were on the chairs in a courtyard—this was chair yoga for the elderly—and we could smell our lunch. There was no sense of sage or incense. It was pork belly!

I’m sure it’s hard to choose, but what’s your favorite posture?

It’s not hard, actually. I would say tadasana, just standing. Because it’s so universal and it’s so profound. It’s also called mountain pose. You are reminding yourself that you are of nature, you are a mountain. There are so many intricacies to simply standing. In the axis of alignment, you are literally embodying your figure. It’s a call into “how am I feeling?” without having to do any of the other postures. Outside of that, if you think about being still—we are never still. We are always moving in some way. It’s really a profound posture.

When you’re not no your mat, what do you do for fun?

I’m singing! But that is my gap of awareness. From what I said before, I am so deep in the movement world, I relatively feel OK in my body. Bur what I don’t know is this space [points to his throat]. I got into it, because of teaching. I know for a fact that if I break my leg, I could still teach. But if I lose my voice, I don’t have that flexibility. So I invested in a few voice classes to better understand how I could protect my voice. Sometimes you have to raise your voice. I got into that that way, but increasingly found it’s so cathartic and so releasing to just let things out. I have so much tension in my jaw. I think that’s prevalent for many people. It’s powerful to understand all of the subtle movements that are happening.

The extremely fit Saved By the Bell legend has pulled out all the, erm, stops to help launch his new series centered around a male Hooters-esque restaurant.

Gosselaar, who famously rose to stardom as Zack Morris on SBTB more than 30 years ago, was a surprise guest during the Bell Media Upfronts in Toronto. Appearing to not have aged a day, the 52-year-old strutted out on stage in a skimpy outfit to promote the new show Bulges, by nonchalantly flaunting his. 👀

Decked out in a sleeveless white crop top bearing the show’s name, a pair of blue booty shorts and knee-high white tube socks. MPG was giving himbo excellence.

Gosselaar let his ripped six-pack, thicc muscular thighs and buff biceps take center stage as he danced around and threw air kisses to the crowd.

It’s safe to say the girls, gays and theys of a certain age where definitely in the midst of a full-blown Zack Attack!

A fan at the event captured the thirst-inducing moment and included the caption: “Ok Zack Morris I didn’t know you still played like that.” Oh but he does!

Bulges

Bulges is a workplace comedy set at an “iconic and once-thriving all-male, not-so-family-friendly restaurant in Niagara Falls,” is how it was described by Deadline.

Justin Stockman, VP, Global Content for Bell Media, added: “So if Hooters is for a mainly male clientele, BULGES is for a mainly female clientele. The waiters are men, and they wear shorts. The rest is obvious. It’s basically Hooters for women.”

Understood, but don’t be so quick to alienate your gays. As political commentator and pundit Peter Rothpletz noted in a fantastic New York Times piece, Hooters can be an unlikely gay safe space!

As far as casting Zack Morris and his abs, Stockman added: “we wanted someone who might pique the interest of, ‘what is this show, and why is he on it?’ Mark-Paul Gosselaar fits the bill perfectly, and he’s very committed and super into it.”

That’s for damn sure.

Bulges is currently filming now and Gosselaar, while committed to doing whatever he has to as for as the show’s wardrobe needs, still hasn’t full embraced the show’s title.

In a recent interview with iHeartRadio, MPG admitted he still finds himself whispering the show’s title when asked what he’s currently working on.

Now some bad news, Bulges is a Canadian comedy series and it’s still unclear if it will get distribution in the United States.

But unless TV executives have been living under a rock the last six months, they’ve seen the success of another little racy Canadian series called Heated Rivalry and there will be no shortage of takers of Bulges. 😜

Until then, we’ll keep a lookout for new images of MPG in character.

This Pride Month, the mother of all film festivals turns 50, and she looks good!

Returning to San Francisco for its landmark 50th edition, Frameline—considered the “longest-running, largest, and most widely recognized LGBTQ+ film exhibition event in the world”—is celebrating in style with an incredible program of screenings and special events taking over the legendary (and beautifully renovated) Castro Theatre and beyond from June 17 – 27.

It can be hard to know where to begin with Frameline50’s robust lineup of features, shorts, and must-see titles from all over the world. From star-studded films already having the internet buzzing to documentaries exploring queer cultural touchstones like Cruising and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to repertory screenings of LGBTQ+ classics & forgotten gems, this fest really does have it all.

At The Place Of Ghosts

A few years back, Two-Spirit director Bretten Hannam gave us Wildhood, a coming-of-age road trip movie featuring a beautiful queer love story. Their follow-up is a decidedly spookier tale, but one also told through the lens of queerness, brotherhood, and Indigenous culture. It follows two estranged Mi’kmaq brothers who, in order to ward off an evil spirit, embark on a journey to the dense forest known as the Place Of Ghosts, where they’ll confront their demons and only together try to overcome the shared horrors of their past.

Screening Saturday, June 20.

Before I Do

It’s meant to be a carefree weekend at a lakeside cabin when groom-to-be John Michael (Mutt‘s Cole Doman) brings his boys together for a bachelor party, including Kit (Love, Victor‘s Nico Greetham), Luís (The Boys In The Band‘s Robin De Jesus), Simon (Bookends‘ Jared Reinfeldt), and best man Alex (Glamorous‘s Michael Hsu Rosen), who also happens to be his ex. But old flames burn bright, and the possibility of rekindled romance for John Michael & Alex threatens to throw the whole trip into chaos in director Gayr Jaffe’s gay rom-com.

Dreamboi

Having received two X ratings and threats of censorship from the Philippine government’s motion picture review board, filmmaker Rodina Singh’s colorful & kinetic Dreamboi comes to Frameline for its U.S. premiere with quite the reputation. It’s the story of daydreaming Diwa (EJ Jallorina), a trans woman who lusts after the hunky content creator behind her favorite audio erotica (Tony Labrusca). But when she meets him in an uncompromising situation, she finds herself stuck between her liberating fantasies & the harshness of the real world.

Screening Tuesday, June 23.

Hunky Jesus

Since the late ’70s, a group of San Francisco queer folks has been dragging themselves up as the most fabulous Catholic nuns you’ve ever seen, spreading the good word of queerness through activism, protest, and charity. They are the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and they’ve turned their humble mission into a global movement. In her empowering & frequently hilarious documentary, Jennifer M. Kroot traces their amazing story—as told by the Sisters themselves—all leading up to one of their annual “Hunky Jesus” contests.

Loves Company

If you like Kathy Bates in Misery, but wish that Stephen King adaptation was gayer & funnier, then you’ll love Loves Company. Writer/director Jason Lauritis subverts expectations with this dark comedy following washed-up TV star Blake de Troy (Grace And Frankie‘s Jack Plotnick) who, after an accident, winds up bedridden in the home of his only fan Antoinette Funk (SNL‘s Rachel Dratch), realizing if he’s able to spin this into a kidnapping scandal, it might just give him the media attention he so desperately needs to get his career back on track.

Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders

When it was released in 1980, director William Friedkin’s crime thriller Cruising—starring Al Pacino as a cop going undercover in NYC’s gay leather scene—was a flashpoint of controversy, protested by the LGBTQ+ community & conservatives alike. Decades later, it’s largely been reclaimed as a queer classic, and in his new documentary, Jeffrey Schwarz sifts through the spiky legacy of the film, while also revisiting the shocking true-crime story that inspired it, bringing a modern lens to early stories that thrust gay culture into the spotlight.

Screening Wednesday, June 24.

Rock Out

The history of rock music is littered with flamboyant figures who brought unabashed queerness to some of the biggest stages in the world, from Freddie Mercury to Little Richard to Elton John. But, behind the scenes, there’s an entire hidden queer history to rock ‘n’ roll and its many sub-genres, which Dustin Lance Black pulls back the curtain on in his latest doc, Rock Out. It’s a story the Oscar-winner has a deep connection to, having recently lost his brother, a closeted punk musician who believes his sexuality held him back from success.

Something You Should Know About Me

For a few years now, comedian/actor EJ Marcus has been one of our favorite funny people to follow online, so we’re thrilled that someone’s finally giving him the star vehicle he deserves. Andy Fitoden writes and directs this sweet rom-com about trans cartoonist Al (Marcus), who’s completely in love with his best friend Jesse (Morgan Sullivan), who is none the wiser. But when the two room together at camp for queer artists, the close quarters leave Al wondering if he should finally make a move—and possibly ruin the friendship.

Screening Sunday, June 21 & Friday, June 26.

Sparks

Inspired by New Queer Cinema auteur Gregg Araki and French New Wave icon Jean-Luc Godard, filmmaker Fergus Campbell takes audiences to the eponymous Sparks, Nevada, the quiet town where a group of bohemian teen friends while away the hours obsessing over classic cinema & urban legends, like the one about the local reservoir that houses a time-traveling portal. So, when new girl Cleo (Eighth Grade‘s Elsie Fisher) arrives believing it to be true, this chosen family embarks on a journey that brings real “sparks” to their lives.

Screening Thursday, June 25.

Tiger

Despite being home to a vibrant queer community behind closed doors, Japan remains rather socially conservative, and that dichotomy is explored in writer/director Anshul Chauhan’s electrifying new drama. Taiga (Takashi Kawaguchi) is a thirty-something masseuse attempting to pivot to a more lucrative career in on-camera sex work. However, his sister doesn’t approve, and with their father’s health declining, she’s threatening to cut Taiga out of the will, leaving him to navigate the strange purgatory between two very different worlds.

The last person we expected to see hanging out with billionaire David Geffen aboard his superyacht is his ex-husband, Donovan Michaels.

However, paparazzi snapped photos of the two men enjoying time together again earlier this week. Page Six published a story and photos.

It says Michaels, 33 (legal name David Armstrong), was spotted aboard Geffen’s superyacht, Rising Sun, on Monday in Mallorca, Spain.

In the photos, the men could be seen talking to one another. They appeared on friendly terms.

Another photo showed Michaels smiling broadly as he talked with a member of the crew.

It comes as a surprise since the couple’s divorce appeared super messy.

Meeting and marrying

Geffen met Michaels in late 2016 via a website called SeekingArrangements.com. Geffen, now 83, was in his 70s and Michaels in his early 20s. Their first encounter was transactional—Geffen paid $10,000 for the date—but they appear to have hit things off and continued to see each other.

In 2021, Geffen shared a (now deleted) photo of himself with Michaels whilst out sailing.

They married in a private ceremony in Beverley Hills in March 2023. They reportedly did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

Divorce

The men split in February of 2025, and Geffen filed for divorce in May, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

Michaels then filed a lawsuit against his husband, alleging breach of an “oral contract” in which Geffen promised lifelong financial support and sharing of assets. The filing includes serious allegations of exploitation, forced cosmetic procedures, drug coercion, eviction, and financial abandonment.

Geffen fired a lawsuit back. It denied all of Michael’s claims, describing them as sensational fabrications and “salacious lies.” His legal team asserts that no such contract existed.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Geffen’s yacht was also a point of contention.

According to documents seen by the WSJ, Michaels claimed Geffen promised to give him the yacht while they were married.

Once again, Geffen’s lawyers denied this claim.

The divorce was finally settled in April 2026. Both men dropped their respective lawsuits, and representatives said an amicable agreement had been reached. The details of the settlement have not been revealed. Could it be possible that Geffen allowed Michaels some occasional access to the yacht after all?

Who knows? The Hollywood Reporter says the divorce settlement for Michaels is estimated at between $15 to $30 million.

Some friends of Geffen say the allegedly demanding billionaire got off lightly.

“Geffen got off way too easy,” one unnamed pal told The Hollywood Reporter. “He was constantly running around regaling everyone about Donovan’s 9 inches. He should have at least walked away with $10 million an inch.”
