071- The Dish

July 1969. Neil Armstrong is about to walk on the moon, and everyone's eyes are riveted to their TV screens. The first Airport film focuses on a 12-hour period at a major airport where manager Mel Bakersfeld (Burt Lancaster) must deal with a powerful blizzard, a blocked runway and a mentally disabled passenger (Van Heflin) carrying a bomb. The sequel features Charlton Heston as Alan Murdock, an air traffic controller who tries to save a doomed 747 after the pilot of a private plane (Dana Andrews) has a heart attack and crashes into the 747's cockpit.

081- Airport '77 / The Concorde

The third film in the Airport series finds a jet full of people 50 feet below sea level in the Bermuda Triangle. The oxygen supply dwindles for an art collector (Jimmy Stewart), the pilot (Jack Lemmon) and the other passengers (Christopher Lee, Brenda Vaccaro and Olivia de Havilland). The final installment takes place on the Concorde, which heads to the Moscow Olympics with a bomb aboard and must fly upside down after missiles are fired at it.

082- The Bridge on the River Kwai

Director David Lean's sweeping epic is set in a Japanese World War II prison camp where British POWs are forced to construct a railway bridge as a morale-building exercise. Yet the real battle of wills is between "play by the rules" British colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness), who is dedicated to the project, and his American rival (William Holden), who vows to destroy it. The POWs' whistling work theme became legendary.

083- Gettysburg

The fiercest battle fought on American soil comes to the screen in a stunning production that painstakingly re-creates the events of three fateful days in July 1863. Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels, Martin Sheen and Richard Jordan play key roles in this magnificent epic (based on Michael Shaara's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Killer Angels), which was filmed at actual battle locations and rigorously authenticated -- right down to the boots.

084- Spartacus

Stanley Kubrick directed this epic saga based on ancient historical events when a vagabond slave-army led by an ex-gladiator, Spartacus (Kirk Douglas), threatened the very sovereignty of Rome. This film has everything, including a wonderfully funny (and Oscar-winning) performance from Peter Ustinov as the cowardly owner of a gladiator school. Laurence Olivier, Charles Laughton, Jean Simmons and Tony Curtis round out a superb cast.

085- The Ten Commandments

089- The Conversation

Gene Hackman set the standard for 1970s film acting with his portrayal of Harry Caul, a surveillance expert obsessed with his privacy. A past mistake -- and the fear that he may repeat it -- haunts Caul. The Conversation benefits from tremendous supporting performances (especially that of the late, great John Cazale), excellent use of San Francisco locales and Walter Murch's sound editing.

090- Godzilla

When a freighter is viciously attacked in the Pacific Ocean, a team of experts -- including biologist Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) and scientists Elsie Chapman (Vicki Lewis) and Mendel Craven (Malcolm Danare) -- concludes that an oversized reptile is the culprit. Hot on his trail is his designer, Newton (Steve Guttenberg), who hopes to get to Number 5 before the military does. Mistaking the robot for an alien, spunky animal lover Stephanie (Ally Sheedy) takes him in and teaches her new guest about life on Earth. This high-tech comedy adventure hit spawned a 1988 sequel.

After their apartment building is bought by an unscrupulous developer, Frank and Faye Riley (real-life couple Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy) face eviction. But the team's problem isn't a lack of talent; it's the fact that the girls have never played with pure passion and have yet to embrace a true love of the sport.

Hiyaaah! Quentin Tarantino (the writer-director behind Pulp Fiction) retranslated, rescored and subtitled an unintentionally campy Golden Harvest action movie that dates back to 1993. Tarantino's tampering makes the story easier to follow, and that's probably a blessing. But what's also a blessing is the great fight choreography and mind-bending wire-fu acrobatics, which remain intact.

A dwarfish "Nelwyn" named Willow finds a baby adrift in a river and must protect it from an evil queen (Jean Marsh) bent on its destruction. Along with studly Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), Willow battles dragons and vanquishes evildoers, all the while shielding the infant from harm. Taken for what it is, the movie's a tribute of sorts to another film starring a diminutive hero, Lord of the Rings.

When his wealthy grandfather (James Garner) finally dies, Jason Stevens (Drew Fuller) fully expects to benefit when it comes to the reading of the will. But instead of a sizable inheritance, Jason receives a test, a series of tasks he must complete before he can get any money. Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin and former beauty queen Lee Meriwether also star in this coming-of-age drama based on the novel by Jim Stovall.
