If you were to send money to the USA for example, the bank will make a calculation based on the USD exchange rate and advise you of the amount in Australian dollars. They may also charge a fee for this service, but you will be advised of it before you proceed.

Other independent foreign exchange dealers may also offer this service. They are often located in major cities and tourist areas and may be open after standard business hours, unlike banks. These dealers may also act as a currency converter, where you can directly change foreign cash for Australian dollars, or purchase foreign currency. This is particularly useful if you are to travel over-seas to purchase goods directly.
