Madison, Wisconsin (February 14, 2012) – Quincy Bioscience is proud to join the Recording Academy in congratulating Glen Campbell, American country music singer, as he is awarded the 2012 Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.

Glen Campbell has spent more than 50 years creating music that revolutionized the entertainment industry. Campbell courageously announced in June of 2011 that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and a result is performing his “Goodbye Tour” across the country.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive and degenerative brain disorder that results in memory loss and other forms of cognitive dysfunction. It is estimated that Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million people in the United States.

Early last year, President Obama signed the National Alzheimer’s Project Act in order to get more attention for the research and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

In a recent USA TODAY article, Harry Johns, President of the Alzheimer’s Association said, “Back in the 1960’s, people didn’t talk about it. They were ashamed of it and wanted to hide it. We need to change that public discussion.”

Glen Campbell is doing just that; changing the public perception of Alzheimer’s disease by putting a spotlight on the need for more research and treatment options.

Quincy Bioscience, a biotechnology company based in Madison WI, has patented a unique protein, apoaequorin, which may prove effective in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

Quincy Bioscience presented data in July of 2011 at the annual Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Paris, which demonstrated apoaequorin is able to significantly improve cognitive function for adults with memory concerns.

Madison, Wis (Feb 9, 2012) – Quincy Bioscience is pleased to announce that recruitment is underway for a migraine study, evaluating the effectiveness of the jellyfish calcium-binding protein apoaequorin on quality of life for migraine sufferers.

The Online Migraine Trial is a patient-rated outcomes study in which participants complete validated rating scales via the internet over a three month period of time. Migraineurs 18 to 50 years old who experience 3 or more migraines per month are encouraged to apply at www.onlinemigrainetrial.com.

Apoaequorin is a naturally-sourced calcium-binding protein which has proven neuroprotective by its ability to help to regulate intracellular calcium levels. High levels of intracellular calcium are believed to be one cause of the cortical spreading depression associated with migraine headaches.

Migraines are a chronic neurological disease and affect over 30 million adult Americans, with women three times more likely to suffer from recurring migraines.

The study offers migraine sufferers the opportunity to enroll and participate from their own homes. Unlike conventional trials which may require blood draws and clinic visits, the Online Migraine Trial is non-invasive and is convenient to participate.

Paris, France — (July 20, 2011) Quincy Bioscience, a research-based biotechnology company, presented data today which demonstrates an apoaequorin-containing supplement is able to significantly improve cognitive function for adults with memory concerns. The trial findings were shared today in the “Hot Topics” category at the annual Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in Paris.

Quincy Bioscience President Mark Underwood presented the results of the Madison Memory Study to the world’s leading Alzheimer’s disease researchers interested in effective treatments for the growing global problem of age-related cognitive decline and forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

“The Madison Memory Study is significant because the results, which were obtained through computer-based assessments of memory, suggests daily use of apoaequorin is helpful for improving cognitive function in adults who are experiencing some memory impairment,” said Mr. Underwood.

Key findings presented:

The double blind, placebo-controlled study of 218 adults demonstrated apoaequorin was able to significantly improve executive function, word recall, and short-term memory compared to placebo over 90 days.

The apoaequorin arm was able to reduce the total number of errors in a measure of cognitive function by 19 percent compared to baseline and significantly fewer errors than placebo.

In a task requiring participants to learn a grocery shopping list, the apoaequorin group was able to recall significantly more items at Day 90 compared to baseline.

Apoaequorin is a calcium-binding protein derived from a species of jellyfish and has demonstrated neuroprotective properties by buffering excessive levels of intracellular calcium in brain cells.

“The Alzheimer’s research community has known for some time that unregulated calcium is a culprit.” explains Underwood. “There haven’t been any compounds to address this cause. These results are very promising and demonstrate that apoaequorin can help people with memory concerns. Our next step is a larger scale study specifically targeting the Alzheimer’s population.”

Madison, Wis (April 29, 2011) – Patients with multiple sclerosis are being met with even more hope at this year’s MS Walk in Madison, WI – and not just from the 1,500 participants who will be walking to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. Quincy Bioscience, a biotechnology company located in Madison, will be recruiting participants and raising awareness for an innovative study called the MS HOPE Trial.

The study offers MS patients the opportunity to enroll and participate from their own homes. Unlike conventional trials which may require blood draws and clinic visits, the MS HOPE Trial is a distance study, offering internet-based, validated, patient rating surveys that assess quality of life such as cognition, mood, sleep, and energy.

The study lasts six months and for those whom find benefit from the supplement may continue on for a full year if they choose. The study supplement containing apoaequorin is safe to take with other medications, vitamins, and supplements.

Apoaequorin is a protein derived from jellyfish which has proven neuroprotective through its ability to bind excessive calcium in neurons. Calcium is required for proper cell function however calcium levels must be tightly regulated for cell health. In human studies, apoaequorin has proven to improve cognitive function in healthy individuals over 40 years of age.

Quincy Bioscience staff will be presenting and distributing important recruitment information for the MS HOPE Trial. MS supporters can stop by the Quincy Bioscience booth to learn more about MS Hope Trials and how the jellyfish protein apoaequorin may improve the quality of life for those with MS.

Quincy Bioscience encourages the community to come out, raise awareness and support the cause for Multiple Sclerosis. The walk will be held at Warner Park in Madison, WI on Sunday, May 1, 2010 starting at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

MS patients wishing to participate in the study can go to www.mshopetrials.org to learn more or apply.

Madison, Wis — (October 7, 2010) Quincy Bioscience, a research-based biotechnology company, announced results from the study, “Effect of Apoaequorin on Cognitive Function in Aged Canines.” The trial was conducted by CanCog Technologies, Inc., one of the world’s leading cognitive research organizations specializing in age-dependent cognitive decline and neuropathology research for human and canine cognitive assessment.

In the blinded study, dogs received either apoaequorin or a control orally in a chewable tablet form. The dogs in the apoaequorin group significantly outperformed the control group in three separate tasks which measure cognitive abilities.

The data is not only positive for canines but also important for humans. Like people, aged dogs can develop cognitive dysfunction syndrome, a form of dementia which can be seen in an aged dog’s inability to learn new tasks and show deficits in visuospatial memory, or the ability to remember the location of objects. Additionally, brain aging in dogs has been shown to be accompanied by loss of brain cells in the cortical and frontal lobe region, which also occurs in human aging.

In the study, twenty-four beagles at least nine years old were assigned to three cognitively equivalent groups and received placebo or two different doses of the jellyfish protein apoaequorin. The dogs were tested using standardized canine cognitive testing methods, including: object discrimination, visual search task, and a visuospatial working memory task.

The treatment groups outperformed the control groups in each of the three tasks, with learning and visual search tasks reaching statistical significance. The study team, lead by Bill Milgram, Ph.D. concluded, “Overall, these results suggest that daily administration of apoaequorin has beneficial effects seen in improved learning and in attention. All of the animals tested in the study were aged, and showed some degree of cognitive impairment. Thus, one possible interpretation is that the treatment has the potential of reversing age-associated cognitive dysfunction.”

Quincy Bioscience, which launched Quincy Animal Health this past year, plans to use the data to support the launch of its first product this fall – a supplement as an aid in the treatment of canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome.

Madison, WI (August 18, 2010) Quincy Bioscience announces the launch of the Quincy Animal Health division. Based on the success of the company’s patented jellyfish protein apoaequorin in human trials, Quincy Bioscience has begun product development for canine cognitive health.

Mark Underwood the company’s president explains the expansion into animal health was a logical step for Quincy Bioscience, “The essential biochemical properties of the canine brain are not very different from the human brain. Dogs are susceptible to many of the same neurological issues due to aging, such as cognitive dysfunction, we face as humans. The jellyfish protein will help dogs with healthy brain aging in the same way it helps people ‚Äì by supporting calcium regulation in neurons.”

The timing of the launch coincides with the rapid growth of treatment for aging dogs. Better primary medical care for pets has lead to longer-lived dogs and subsequent increasing prevalence of cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) which was recently estimated to be 14.2 percent of older dogs in a recent study published in The Veterinary Journal.

In addition, the animal health marketplace shows little signs of slow-down despite the recession of the past few years. Total U.S. Pet expenditures were $45.5 billion in 2009, a 5.3% increase over 2008. Projections for 2010 are $47.7 billion according to the American Pet Products Association.

David Merrick has been appointed to General Manger of Quincy Animal Health. Mr. Merrick comes from a long family history of veterinarians and an extensive background in the animal health industry including Vice President of Sales and Marketing for an animal health generic pharmaceutical company and the North American, National Sales Manager for a Swiss-based manufacturer.

“I’m extremely excited to be part of something this ground breaking for the animal health industry. The United States has 56 million senior dogs and cats with few products that effectively address the symptoms of cognitive dysfunction syndrome,” explained Merrick.

Box jellyfish are not a welcomed sight on Hawaii’s pristine beaches but there is another species of jellyfish invading the island of Oahu whose visit is welcomed. Aequorea victoria is the jellyfish from which the calcium-binding protein apoaequorin, a potential therapeutic for Alzheimer’s disease, is derived.

Quincy Bioscience representatives are attending the annual Alzheimer’s Association International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease in Honolulu and sharing promising interim data which demonstrates the jellyfish protein improved cognitive testing scores by 14% in sixty days compared to placebo in the randomized controlled “Madison Memory Study,” which enrolled adults who had a memory concern. The average age in the study cohort of thirty-five individuals was 61 years old.

“We are looking forward to sharing the apoaequorin memory data with representatives and presenters at this year’s Alzheimer’s Association ICAD,” said Mark Underwood, president of Quincy Bioscience. “I am encouraged by all of the new research and hopeful pipelines presented at this year’s ICAD,” said Underwood, “but more excited that apoaequorin is in a deliverable form and available for people now that have memory concerns.”

“Quincy Bioscience continues to strengthen its position in developing this novel calcium-binding protein as a platform technology,” said Mark Underwood, president of Quincy Bioscience. “The neuron’s ability to manage calcium and maintain homeostasis is fundamental to proper function. Research has proven the cell’s inability to regulate calcium is a key pathophysiological component in many different brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease. Based on our ongoing research of aequorin in various health conditions and what we know about the role of calcium in the body, we expect aequorin to be a vital protein in many aspects of healthy aging.”

Aequorin, which comes from a species of jellyfish calledAequorea victoria,is a calcium-binding protein. In humans calcium-binding proteins are utilized to maintain calcium balance which is critical to proper cell function.Aequorin has proven to be neuroprotective in pre-clinical studies performed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has shown to be effective at improving aspects of cognition such as spatial working memory and executive function in human studies conducted by Quincy Bioscience.

BEDFORD, N.H., June 1 /PRNewswire/ — Emerson Ecologics, LLC announces the debut of the first group of manufacturers to be awarded Partner status in the Emerson Quality Program(SM) (EQP). This one-of-a-kind quality assurance program for the nutritional supplements industry provides practitioners with manufacturer-specific quality and safety information to assist in confidently recommending the best products to patients.

After careful and comprehensive evaluation of quality manufacturing practices, voluntarily participating manufacturers that meet or exceed Emerson Ecologics’ rigorous quality standards are awarded the distinction of EQP Partner. Verified quality information for each EQP Partner is detailed on the website,www.emersonecologics.com/quality; each manufacturer is also designated throughout the Emerson website with an EQP Partner emblem.

The standards for achieving the EQP Partner designation highlight quality practices consistent with the production of superior quality dietary supplements. The standards for each Partner level include:

EQP Partner: current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) compliance; acceptable third party, Emerson or agency audit; raw material supplier qualification; and raw material testing for identity and purity as evidenced on Certificate of Analysis (CoA) or by third party laboratory.

Silver Partner: EQP Partner standards; use of the most appropriate testing methodologies; potency testing; and a validated risk-based approach to testing adulterants and contaminants.

Gold Partner: EQP Silver Partner standards; testing every batch for identity, potency (label claim), microbiological and other applicable contaminants; a stability program in place; plus demonstrated evidence of research and product development, clinical trial support and sustainable environmental practices.

“Throughout our verification phase of the EQP, I was continually impressed by the dedication to quality exemplified by these EQP Partners,” said Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO and Vice President of Quality and Education at Emerson Ecologics. “These manufacturers understand quality as an integral part of their business and epitomize a commitment to quality manufacturing that goes above and beyond. The Emerson Quality Program recognizes manufacturers that continue to raise our industry’s standards and enables practitioners to reliably trust the source of supplements for their patients.”

With ongoing concerns continually raised about contaminants, such as heavy metals in multivitamin and nutritional supplements, it is increasingly important for practitioners to be able to reliably and efficiently secure information about the quality practices of manufacturers that negate these concerns. EQP Partners represent some of the best quality practices in the dietary supplement industry. Passing the rigorous verification to attain EQP Partner status attests to the superior quality products produced by these companies. The following brands have been awarded the distinction of:

EQP Partner: Advanced Formula Enzymes, Agape Health Products, Allergy Research Group, BioGenesis Nutraceuticals, DaVinci Laboratories, EcoNugenics, Innate Response, Metabolic Maintenance, Montiff, NESS Enzymes, NewMark, NutraRx, PhysioLogics, Proper Nutrition, Rx Vitamins for Pets, and Vitanica;

EQP Silver Partner: Designs for Health, Ming Tong, Omega Nutrition, Perque, Quincy Bioscience, Tang Long and Wise Woman Herbals;

EQP Gold Partner: Douglas Laboratories, Gaia Herbs, Heel, Immune Health Basics, Integrative Therapeutics, Inc., Nordic Naturals, Protocol for Life Balance, Pure Encapsulations, and Vital Nutrients.

“Although committed to the use of dietary supplements as a part of good medical care,” said Donald Levy, M.D. Medical Director of the Osher Clinical Center for Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, “I’m often unable to prescribe a particular brand because it’s too time consuming to search for evidence and independent verification of quality markers for every product. Emerson Ecologics has taken on this task with its own quality assurance program that allows me to prescribe with a confidence I have never experienced before. The best medical care requires thoughtful, intelligent physicians, educated patients and access to quality medical facilities and products. The Emerson Quality Program makes a significant contribution to this ideal.”
