This gives the site a live weather forecast for any location out of a choice of over 3 million locations worldwide.

Prior to publication, Quotes contacted the Business Development Manager in AccuWeather's Research & Development Group to check that the extension met with their approval. When they gave the project the green light it was published on the MediaWiki web site and made available as a free download. The extension is also due to be featured in a forthcoming section on AccuWeather's web site where they will be showcasing the ways that web designers are using their data.

Documentation on the AccuWeather Extension for MediaWiki is available from www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AccuWeather

Buy With Confidence

Quotes has become an approved member of the Trading Standards 'Buy With Confidence' Scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to promote and support good, reliable tradesmen and retailers, whilst in turn increasing consumer protection by providing an approved trader list.

To become a member of the scheme Quotes was checked by staff from the County Council's Trading Standards Service for compliance with the letter and spirit of the law. It also made an undertaking to deal with customers promptly, efficiently and courteously and in accordance with good trading practice, and show a committment to fair trading and providing a quality service for its customers.

"We are very pleased to hear we have been accepted onto the scheme." said James Slattery-Kavanagh, Director of Quotes. "We'd like to thank the trading standards officers involved because it has been a busy time for them. They have also been working on their merger with CustomerFirst and the relaunch of their web site at www.buywithconfidence.info. We'd also like to thank all our customers that participated in the vetting process and encourage anyone that would like to give feedback on our services to contact Trading Standards at www.westsussex.gov.uk/tradingstandards."

Quotes Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Quotes is celebrating it's 10th anniversary today. "It is a remarkable achievement considering how many web design companies have fallen to the wayside" said James Slattery-Kavanagh, Director of Quotes. "In 1996 we had to explain what the Internet was, yet today it is a part of everyday life! We survived the Dot Com Crash by focusing on the needs of our customers, and we have a reputation for producing professional looking web sites that serve the day-to-day needs of small businesses without making a song and dance about it."

Quotes (quotes.co.uk) has created over two hundred web sites over the last ten years including a number of independent projects such as Street Parties, Virtual Norwood, and the Protein S Deficiency and Thrombophilia web site.

Street Parties (streetparties.info) helped the UK to make preparations in the run up to the Golden Jubilee. New concepts in optimising the web design for search engines were deployed and it wasn't long before the sites were prominently featured in all the major search engines. On Accession Day James was interviewed by ITV Meridian Tonight. The special feature on the Street Parties web site went out with the evening news and was also syndicated to ITV London Tonight. Web site traffic levels reached fever pitch at the End of May when Steve Wright on Radio 2 announced it was his Web Site of The Day.

Virtual Norwood (virtualnorwood.com) serves the communities of West Norwood, South Norwood and Upper Norwood (Crystal Palace) in South London. It was established in 1998 and provides a unique perspective on an area of London that is otherwise dissected by the administrative boundaries of no less than five London boroughs (Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark). Extensive local information includes restaurant and pub guides, event listings, and a busy online forum. There is a custom 3D map of the area based on aerial photography supplied by Cities Revealed and all major streets are represented online with Virtual Streets which have photos of each shop front and links to available web sites. In 2001 Virtual Norwood became a founding member of London Voices (which represents similar independent community sites in London) and it is now the lead site in an expanded catchment area that includes Anerley, Penge and Sydenham. The site has a monthly circulation of 20,000.

The Protein S Deficiency and Thrombophilia web site (protein.org.uk) is the de facto patient support group for people with Protein S Deficiency. The site has evolved on simple lines with a few pages written on key topics such as an introduction to proteins, health risks and medication. The introduction of an online forum has created a sense of community and many people comment that they are now able to gain access to information they cannot find anywhere else. The site has been featured on BBC News Online and in Letter of The Month for Internet Magazine. The site has a monthly circulation of 5,000.
