AccuWeather Extension for MediaWiki

Quotes (quotes.co.uk) has published its source code for an Extension to the MediaWiki platform that allows web sites to add a weather forecast to their web site using data supplied by AccuWeather.com.

The extension was initially developed in-house to extend the functionality of the Wiki Sussex (WikiSussex.com) web site using AccuWeather's netWeather application. This gives the site a live weather forecast for any location out of a choice of over 3 million locations worldwide.

Prior to publication, Quotes contacted the Business Development Manager in AccuWeather's Research & Development Group to check that the extension met with their approval. When they gave the project the green light it was published on the MediaWiki web site and made available as a free download. The extension is also due to be featured in a forthcoming section on AccuWeather's web site where they will be showcasing the ways that web designers are using their data.

Quotes has become an approved member of the Trading Standards 'Buy With Confidence' Scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to promote and support good, reliable tradesmen and retailers, whilst in turn increasing consumer protection by providing an approved trader list.

Quotes is celebrating it's 10th anniversary today. Quotes (quotes.co.uk) has created over two hundred web sites over the last ten years including a number of independent projects such as Street Parties, Virtual Norwood, and the Protein S Deficiency and Thrombophilia web site.

Street Parties (streetparties.info) helped the UK to make preparations in the run up to the Golden Jubilee. New concepts in optimising the web design for search engines were deployed and it wasn't long before the sites were prominently featured in all the major search engines. On Accession Day James was interviewed by ITV Meridian Tonight. The special feature on the Street Parties web site went out with the evening news and was also syndicated to ITV London Tonight. The introduction of an online forum has created a sense of community and many people comment that they are now able to gain access to information they cannot find anywhere else. The site has been featured on BBC News Online and in Letter of The Month for Internet Magazine. The site has a monthly circulation of 5,000.
