The Lord gave me a shocking and disturbing prophetic word as I was flying into Colorado Springs recently.

This strong yet freeing word has resulted in some important repentance and a fresh pursuit of holiness in the body.  You can see the first post on this topic here.

This message will be the lead story in my upcoming magazine theBurning.  I feel it’s important to sound the alarm for a new level of sensitivity to humility in our own lives and in the church in general.  As we live truly humble and meek lives, the Earth will be turned upside down.  The Kingdom will advance.

After being asked to share this word at a leadership event in Colorado Springs a few weeks back, we felt that it was imperative to unpack it further.  I did so last Saturday at this new city-strategy for leadership development in the Colorado Springs area.

The repentance in the room led to joy and a fresh fire that can only come as we are surrendered and broken in the presence of God.  It was quite a day.

Something is stirring in Colorado Springs.  I cast some vision for a possible revival/prophecy/prayer driven church in Colorado Springs that Saturday evening at Revolution House of Prayer, and the excitement and energy in the room was surprisingly intense.  Something is up.

The word “Almost Homosexual” can be quite offensive if we aren’t hungering for righteousness.  If we allow ourselves to miss the point of the message, it’s quite possible to become quite defensive and offended.  However, for those who trust God’s wisdom and his zeal for holiness, we’ll allow the sword to pierce us- and change us.

Remember, the primary driver of the homosexual movement is not same-sex attraction. 

At its foundation it’s not about sex or perversion, and at its foundation, this word to the body, to the church, isn’t about sex or perversion.  It’s not about liberal theology or conservative theology.  It’s has nothing to do with a particular church’s stance for or against homosexual marriage or gay clergy.  It has everything to do with pride, identity and lust. 

So, this word doesn’t mean that people in the church are almost embracing same-sex attraction.  I hope I’m making that clear.  However, it does beg the question, “Are there people in the body who are driven by pride?  By narcissism?  By lust for power, position or other goals?  Is it a pandemic or is there nothing to be concerned about?”

• Pride- “Separation and elevation” We know scripturally that God actually moves away from, intentionally resists those who are prideful.  Our pride is usually driven by our strengths and successes.  We embrace a division in the body with the attitude that I’m different, I’m another breed, I’m separate because I’m on a different level.  It’s the “I’m right, you’re wrong” attitude that creates intentional division, and it’s more harmful than we realize.
• Identity- “Separation and justification” This pursuit of establishing our identity is usually driven by our rejection.  We declare that I’m different and I like it.  We see people going to great lengths to be recognized and affirmed after years of rejection.  The attempt is to justify our identity even at the cost of unity.  It’s narcissism. 
• Lust- “Separation and domination” The idea here is that I know what I want and nobody will stand in my way. 

The call to humility and holiness cannot be underestimated.  We in Colorado Springs and the nation need God’s manifest presence to intensify significantly. 

Leonard Ravenhill said this: “You can have all of your doctrines right—yet still not have the presence of God.”

It’s all about drawing near, being intimate, broken, humble, passionate!  We must have God stirring in power again in Colorado Springs!

If we think that we are immune to pride, the pursuit of identity and lust, we really don’t understand holiness.

Jer 17:⁹ "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? ¹⁰ I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind Even to give every man according to his ways,

At the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, it’s normal to be deeply in God’s presence 4 or more hours a day.  People find themselves undone as the Holy Spirit searches their hearts and lovingly reveals pride, hardness, fear and other debilitating issues.  We need to search our hearts and hit our knees!

The core call is for a movement of humility and holiness.

It’s a call to become broken and undone, desperate and deeply intimate with Jesus.

It’s a call to a fasted lifestyle, to full surrender and complete saturation in the advance of the Kingdom.

It’s a call to the deeply humble, yet powerfully bold life of John the Baptist.

Are we ready to let the Lover of our souls invade the deepest parts of our inner man?

Is 6:5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

When God is in our midst, a revelation of our own sin and issues are made known.  A key problem today is that God’s manifest presence isn’t with us as He should be!  Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.  He is the Revelation.  He is the Word.  Where God is, revelation is.  You can’t separate the two.  We must embrace the prophetic spotlight into our heart!

We must deal with our own hearts if this ministry is to advance and if this city is to be set free.

We cannot anymore develop systems that enhance our own identities, stroke our pride or fuel our lust for power, recognition or anything else.

It’s time again to declare the cross, holiness, humility and passion from our pulpits and on our faces!

So what’s the solution?  Repentance and prayer.  We must see night and day prayer return to Colorado Springs!

The more we pray, the more we repent… night and day.  Let’s agree for a movement of intimacy, humility, repentance, prayer and power in the church!

Earlier this decade I founded and led Revolution Church in Manitou Springs, Colorado prior to taking it through a transition from a church to a house of prayer.

As we were in the midst of the transition, I received what I believe to be timely and divine wisdom from my Father-in-law:

“John, do you understand that you are not transitioning from a church, you are transitioning into a church.”

I feel strongly that it’s time to revisit the call and purpose of the house of prayer movement.  I believe the many developing houses of prayer in the nation are at risk of marginalizing their power, purpose and effectiveness.  Houses of prayer are a closer model of the church that we see in Acts than what we see in traditional churches in our nation today, and they need to wrap their arms around that identity and the responsibility to help with the reformation that will soon be upon the church.

Simply- the house of prayer movement cannot fulfill its purpose as a para-church movement. 

In fact, to deliberately promote a dividing line between the function of the church and the function of the house of prayer will significantly threaten the coming reformation to the landscape of Christianity.  Biblically, the church IS a house of prayer for all nations.  There is to be no division, no difference.

Mark 11:17 (NKJV) Then He taught, saying to them, "Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? …‘ "

I believe the house of prayer movement just may be one of the most significant and critical strategic missions of our generation.  However, if a prime purpose of the house of prayer movement is to stimulate and facilitate the radical recalibration of the Christian church at large, then the house of prayer movement itself must quickly recalibrate and embrace that mission.

I met with a mega church pastor a few years ago who’s friends with Mike Bickle, the Director of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri.  He mentioned that his strong opinion several years prior was that IHOP would have to eventually function as a local church if it was to grow and develop with the necessary New Testament power.  This, in fact, did happen.  It had to. 

Scripturally, the church is the New Testament structure for Kingdom advance. It only makes sense to embrace that and enjoy the all too important Holy Spirit infusion and governmental authority that only flows to and through the church.  Apostles, prophets, etc. receive their authority as they function in the church.

It has become common to intentionally distance houses of prayer from the general church mission.  A lot of energy goes into differentiating their role from the role of the church.  For example, people who visit a house of prayer might be encouraged to “tithe to their local church and give offerings to the house of prayer.”  This is a simple yet obvious and practical example of what I mean.  Also, they generally don’t meet on Sundays so as not to interfere with people’s participation with their traditional church.  There’s a clear dividing line.  In fact, many houses of prayer require or strongly encourage their people to also attend a ‘regular’ church on Sundays. 

The primary purpose of the church is to be a house of prayer for all nations.  All Christians should pray as a primary ministry every day.  The church’s very identity is that of Holy Spirit fueled prayer.  To communicate that such activity is reserved mostly for the intercessors and a special segment of Christianity will further validate the belief that prayer is not to be the key driver for the majority of Believers.

The goal is for every church to first be a house of prayer for all nations.  For this to happen, we cannot communicate that all of the emerging houses of prayer are not churches because of their deep focus on prayer.  Just as my Father-in-law shared, houses of prayer are very much churches indeed, and shouldn’t shy away from that identity.

A pit stop or a destination?

I shared an insight with a good friend of mine.  I asked, is the house of prayer to be a pit stop on the journey or is it the core destination?

Let’s say you and your family plan an exciting trip to Orlando.  That’s your destination.  All of your plans and excitement revolves around the time you will spend there.  You save thousands of dollars with the intent of investing most all of it at the theme parks and other entertaining places.  You have enough space for thousands of photos on your camera.  Memories are sure to be made. 

Destination: Orlando!

You pack and load up the family in the car and start the long drive to beautiful Florida.  Several hours into the journey it’s time for a pit stop.  You pull into a gas station and fill up the car.  The family goes inside and uses the restroom and spends a few dollars on soda and snacks.  Then, they hit the road again.

At the gas station, nobody felt as if they had ‘arrived’.  Nobody took any photos.  Nobody was especially excited.  Only a few dollars was invested in the mission of that convenience store.

The question for house of prayer leaders: is your ministry, your ‘church’, a pit stop or a destination?  Do people develop their lives and plans around their participation in your ministry?  Or, is it a pick-me-up or a splinter ministry that they participate in on a low level?

We need houses of prayer, which are actually an excellent model of the New Testament church, to become destinations (and not pit stops) all around the world.  Places of high level investment.  Prayer fueled churches that have strong apostolic, governmental leadership. 

I believe as we kick into this calibration that houses of prayer will not only be functioning 24/7 but they won’t shy away from being the primary Sunday morning experience for the body.  We’ll see current traditional churches become more focused on their primary ministry of night and day prayer. 

Another related point is this: If we are to see houses of prayer function governmentally as New Testament churches, if they are to initiate and facilitate city-wide transformation, then they must be fueled by supernatural vision.

Someone mentioned something to me once that caused a good amount of concern.  He said that he developed his particular house of prayer perfectly and without any deviation on the model of IHOP in Kansas City.  He mentioned that there was no difference at all.  The model was a carbon copy.  How can this be?

Certainly it’s appropriate to utilize certain principles and even some of the models that are inherent with the house of prayer movement, but to default to another person’s revelation with no personal vision at all makes little sense.

For example, IHOP regularly prays what they call the apostolic prayers.  The prayers of Paul, for example, that he declared over the church.  I read something that was right on recently, “The apostolic prayers aren’t apostolic prayers for you.  They were apostolic prayers for Paul.  He had the burden and passion for a specific people in a specific region and his heart overflowed with love for them.”

Now, of course, it’s great to pray scripture, and I often pray the apostolic prayers myself.  But, to default to repeating such prayers while there is a void of personal apostolic revelation and passion for a particular people and region has limited effect.  To pray without personal revelation, without a personal burden can be quite a struggle.  My book Revelation Driven Prayer addresses this at length.

I would never counsel a leader to setup systems that are simply mirrors of what has been done somewhere else.  I don’t think it’s usually appropriate to launch a ministry if we don’t have unique, creative, supernatural revelation for that season, for that region, for those people.

God is way too creative and massive to ever default to another person’s revelation.  In part, it’s for this reason that houses of prayer have limited themselves to impacting a small segment of the church.  We need to see revelation explode and watch houses of prayer become city-impacting houses of power that are driven by supernaturally delivered directives of God himself. 

As we see houses of prayer become revelation driven, and break their addiction to petition and deviate from the ministry cookie cutter, they will develop into a beautiful prism of ever changing colors on the landscape of the city church.

This statement isn’t intended to be insensitive or harsh, but the reality is that the same mistakes are being repeated hundreds of thousands of time, over and over, in churches all across America.  We’re zero for 19,000.  If you count Azusa (which you should), we’re one for 19,000-  In the last one hundred years!  We should be shaken and concerned.

We can’t presume to do the same things we have been doing while expecting different results.  A reformation is mandatory at this stage of the game.  A change that will threaten our lives and our livelihoods.

In a moment I want to share a word concerning the spirit of Pilate in the church.  However, first I am going to share a vision I had that I shared at a pastor’s meeting here in Detroit recently.  These two messages are intentionally connected.

In the vision I was looking at a beach along the ocean.  There were a lot of people standing and playing in the sand, and there was a handful of people no more than 30 yards into the shallows of the ocean.  I saw a man representing leadership in the church standing with one foot in the water and one foot on the sand.

He was feverishly trying to compel people on the beach to step foot into the water while at the same time keeping his eyes on those who were in the shallows.

Every group represented in the vision was experiencing negative feelings.  The people in the water were disappointed and frustrated because there was nobody to take them into the deep.  The people on the sand were irritated and wanted to be left alone and the church leader was deeply frustrated and about to give up. 

I heard the word, “I’m transitioning church leaders from life guards to deep sea divers.”

I then saw the church leader turn toward the massive ocean, and he dove in.  The water was stirred as he swam out over 300 yards and then down into the cool, refreshing world of the unknown.  He was going where no man had ever gone.  Those who were in the shallows had tears in their eyes and an eruption of excitement within as they followed their leader into the depths of wonder.

Those on the sand were supernaturally provoked by the stirring of the living water and at the potential for remarkable discovery in an unknown world.  The masses started running, without hesitation, into the water they had avoided for years.

As we as leaders can trust God’s protocol, and trust his ability to supernaturally draw people into the deep, we’ll have the confidence to move far beyond where we in our humanness ever presumed people would dare to follow.

Now, lets talk about the spirit of Pilate.

This is a serious message for leaders and for the body to consider.  The question we must ask is this: Do the masses have undue influence in the formation of our churches and ministries?

Think about this: Are we as pastors and leaders willing to lose our churches, our reputations, our salaries, our security and other things that we have worked so hard to develop for the sake of developing the church according to God’s inconvenient blueprint??  Will the pressure of demands and false expectations in the church steer us off course?  If we are obedient to the extreme call for revival and reformation, obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit into the great unknown, all of this and more will be at risk. 

We know that Pontius Pilate had every resource at his disposal to put the crowd in its place and stop the abuse of Jesus.  He had authority, an army, power and influence.  It was his call.  But he wasn’t willing to lose.

Let’s back up and look at another scene where the masses drove the experience.

Matthew 21:9-11 (NIV) ⁹ The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!" ¹⁰ When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?" ¹¹ The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

They were shouting Hosanna!  It was literally, “Save us!”  The crowd acknowledged the royalty of Jesus and were crying out to him, honoring him, beseeching him as their king.  It was a party atmosphere, and as long as the majority was in favor of Jesus’ mission, there was little the religious crowd could do.

Matthew 21:45-46 (NIV) ⁴⁵ When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them. ⁴⁶ They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.

Now, you can imagine the religious spirits that were rising up at this point.  However, we often presume those who were shouting Hosanna to be pure in their motives.  In reality, it’s quite clear scripturally that many of them were actually embodying the very definition of religion. 

Religion: Man’s attempt to use God to get what he wants.

The masses wanted to ‘honor’ him in the hopes of receiving what they wanted in return.

The story that follows the triumphal entry is what I call the principle of the money changers.

Matthew 21:12-13 (NIV) ¹² Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. ¹³ "It is written," he said to them, "’My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a ‘den of robbers.’"

We see the spirit of religion stirred up here once again.  Jesus overturned the tables that were set up by those who were driven by a religious spirit.  You see, the money changers went into the house of prayer (the church) with the expectation of leaving with more than they entered with.  The were using God’s house for personal gain.  They were using God’s system, and God himself to get what they wanted.

We know the call of the house of prayer, the church, is to enter with the expectation of leaving with less than we enter with.  It’s a place of sacrifice and offering.  It’s the response to the call to take up our cross and to die daily. 

I believe an violent overthrow of religious tables, structures that ministries have been setup on, is nearly upon us.  Our churches are to be a house of prayer for all nations.

There must be a massive reformation, a change and national repentance for setting up the house of prayer in such a way that it will appeal to the most people.  Our churches are to be holy, full of the fire of the Holy Spirit and fully devoted to night and day prayer.  As we do this, most very well may vacate the pews, and a dear price will be paid.  But, the Spirit of the living God will manifest in power and glory as we minister to him without end.

Now, let’s watch as the story develops in to the trial of Jesus.

Matthew 27:11-26 (NIV) ¹¹ Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor (Pilate), and the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. ¹² When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. ¹³ Then Pilate asked him, "Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?" ¹⁴ But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge–to the great amazement of the governor. ¹⁵ Now it was the governor’s custom at the Feast to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. ¹⁶ At that time they had a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas. ¹⁷ So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?" ¹⁸ For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over to him. ¹⁹ While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: "Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him." ²⁰ But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. ²¹ "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" asked the governor. "Barabbas," they answered. ²² "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" Pilate asked. They all answered, "Crucify him!" ²³ "Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man’s blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!" ²⁵ All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

Ok, now, of course, this is serious.  Pilate was driven by the same spirit of religion that drove the money changers and the crowd at the triumphal entry.  At the end of the day, Pilate wanted everything to work out well for him.  He was in it for personal gain.  He wanted those he had leadership over to be appeased and settled.  He had a sense of integrity, but in the end he caved to the pressure of the people, of the religious spirit.

The question is simple: Have we as leaders ever formed our ministries in such a way so as to ensure there were few waves, few disgruntled people?  Or, have we come to the realization that developing churches and ministries via the leading of the Holy Spirit will actually provide a nearly continual opportunity for challenge and offense?  As in Acts 2, many will marvel and many will mock. 

I’ve made this mistake.  One day the Lord gently, but firmly rebuked me as I was looking out at the crowd in the church one Sunday morning.  I was disappointed at the small turnout that day and wondered what I could have done to compel more to come.  I was the pastor with one foot in the water and one foot on the sand attempting to do whatever it took (within reason!) to get more people into the water.  I was frustrated. 

God spoke clearly.  “John, I don’t ever want you to judge your effectiveness as my servant by the number of people who show up.  I simply want you to determine on a scale of one to ten, to what degree you let me conduct the service that day.  Your success is measured by your obedience.”

That message from God changed everything for me. 

Another day, as God was calling me to take the ministry into a challenging new direction, I told God, “If we do this, if we make this change, we’re certain to lose people, we’ll lose money and I’ll lose my reputation.”  God, after I mentioned my reputation, said, “Good.  My Son was of no reputation.”  God wasn’t asking me to make the ‘right’ decisions that resulted in the most people joining the church.  He wanted me to realize that his wisdom and strategy was much greater than I could ever perceive.

I obeyed God, and our church lost 80% of the people.  We lost 80% of our income.  We moved from a 27,000 square foot building into a 1,000 square foot building.  People were upset that church had ‘changed’.  I had to get a job.  Pressure was intense.  Betrayal was everywhere.  My wife was in tears almost continually.  My dream came crashing down literally overnight.  However, while the crowd was disappearing, I could honestly say that on a scale of one to ten, God was able to operate in that season at a ten.  I trusted his process- a process that cost us more than most of you will ever know.

In the above scripture passage, Pilate was frustrated.  He saw that he was getting nowhere.  He was nervous about the uproar in the body.  So, he relented.  The majority, won.  Note how Pilate asked the question, “What crime has he committed?”  The ‘crime’ was that the spirit of religion lost.  The masses didn’t get what they expected from Jesus during the triumphal entry, so they turned on him.

It was the humble yet bold Prophet that ‘caused problems’ with the current system.  We see this today.  When a strong prophetic advance penetrates a city or church, you can count on sudden, serious and violent backlash.  Most churches shut down prophecy, the call for reformation, for this very reason.  The risk is too great.  The religious spirits will rise up when the call to the cross threatens the church system they have so carefully set up for their own benefit.

So, how do we deal with this?  There are many things to consider, but lets start by praying for a strategy that God used with Pilate himself. His wife had a troubling dream.

Let’s pray that dreams invade all of our homes.  That God will capture our attention, and the attention of our wives and others close to us.  As this prophetic message of God arrives on our scenes, we will have the support from Heaven that we need to stand strong in the face of persecution and potential uproar.

We simply have to trust God’s process, turn toward the ocean, fear not the threat of uproar, fear not the possibility of great loss, and follow the Holy Spirit Himself as he takes us and those who choose to follow into the deep- into the place where the shock and awe of the glory of God is waiting for us.

Second- Biblical order:

1 Cor 14:40 is one of the most misunderstood scriptures in the Bible.

1 Corinthians 14:39-40 (NKJV) ³⁹ Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. ⁴⁰ Let all things be done decently and in order.

Very often those who are uncomfortable with expression in a corporate setting will pull that scripture in an attempt to temper what’s going on. To control the atmosphere. Worse, most often people use it with an arrogant and judgmental attitude… they look at those who aren’t acting they way they think they should as ‘out of order’.

Is it possible that those who aren’t responding to the stirring of the Holy Spirit are the ones who are actually out of order?

That verse immediately follows verse 39: Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

In context, it makes much more sense that a lack of a prophetic atmosphere, a lack of praying in tongues, is actually a service that’s out of order.

If we think that we can simply stand there and clap our hands and grin when the power of God burns in us, we don’t really understand God.

Consider this: What if lightening were to strike somebody. That person would react severely. Lightening is a created substance.

What if an angel visited someone in the night. That person would tremble and fall to their face. An angel is a created being.

If a created substance can cause us to manifest and a created being can cause us to manifest… what if the Creator were to touch us? Wow. We would react with such quaking and breaking with tears and groans that can’t be uttered!

This is very decent and very much in order.

This afternoon I met with a key ministry leader regarding a new city-wide initiative that, by all appearances, is extremely significant.  I also met with Miles Anderson regarding the possibility of developing theBurning here at Revolution House of Prayer.  Along with a possible revival/prophecy/prayer themed magazine launch, working with ministries and assisting in the launch of revival strategies, our home businesses and several other smaller focuses, this is an extremely active season. 

Simply, we must hear God clearly, be alert, be instant and humbly move ahead with fire and boldness.  This is a serious time, and it’s only going to increase in it’s severity.

As I was on the airplane flying into Colorado today, the Lord surprised me with a strong and striking word for the Church.  The opportunity for offense is high on this one, so brace yourself.  (Remember, Jesus said, “Blessed are those who are not offended because of me.”)

While this is a general word, and, of course, isn’t inclusive of every believer, I do believe we must humbly ask God to search our hearts.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?

This is a powerful verse, and the more time we spend on our face in the presence of God, the more we realize how true it is.

Is 6:5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

When God is in our midst, a revelation of our own sin and issues are made known.  A key problem today is that God’s manifest presence isn’t with us as He should be!  Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.  He is the Revelation.  He is the Word.  Where God is, revelation is.  You can’t separate the two.

As God, in his burning love for us, reveals our hearts to us, we will find ourselves falling to our knees.

God is calling the Church to massive repentance.

On the airplane today, the word the Lord gave me was this: “Almost homosexual”

What? It sounded strange to me as well, but in that powerful moment I immediately understood what God was communicating.  Is it possible that we in the Church are close to embracing the same spirits that fuel the homosexual agenda?

You see, the issue of homosexuality isn’t mostly that of same-sex attraction.  As I was receiving this word, the Lord communicated three key principalities that drive the homosexual agenda, and it was then clear to me.  Yes, we are very possibly almost homosexual.

1. Pride
2. Identity
3. Lust

Yes, this is quite serious indeed.  We wonder why the Church isn’t having more success in the culture.  I believe a key reason is that we are attempting to attack worldly pride with religious pride.  We are actually retaining the services of the very same demons that we are attempting to battle!  A spirit of pride!

Pride is rampant, and we must repent, every one of us.  The Bible tells us that God resists the proud.  He actually moves away from us!  Is it possible that we are attempting to change culture from a position of religious pride all while God is not standing with us?  God help us.

Similarly, the drive to climb the ladder and be recognized and heard in the Church for the sake of our own identity is a serious issue that must be dealt with.

Do we ever teach to hear our own voice?  Do we prophesy with an undercurrent of manipulation so we can attempt to steer the situation according to our own desire?  Do we jockey for position?  Are we more in love with our status and reputation than we are with Jesus?  Jesus was of no reputation.  He went low.  Lower than any man has ever gone.

We are not here to build our ministries, to be seen, to advance in status or to demand attention.  Humility must be embraced.  If we find ourselves focused on pursuing affirmation and acceptance and doing all we can to either avoid rejection or to attack those who have rejected us, it’s a clear signal that we must repent and seek healing.

Lastly, lust is destroying so many Christians.  Pornography is in the homes of believers everywhere.  Both sexual and non-sexual lust (such as lust for attention, lust for material items) will spread like a disease and consume us if we don’t deal with it with severity.

When we put these three unholy spirits together, we have the same powerfully deadly mixture that we see driving the homosexual agenda. 

If we can renounce pride and embrace humility, renounce the pursuit of fame and identity and consider others more important than ourselves, and replace lust with the fiery love of the Lover of our Souls, Jesus Christ, we will most certainly impact our culture.

I urge you, repent.  Seek God like never before.  Hit your knees and pray until you pray through.  I’ll be right there with you.

• Revelation Driven Prayer: Based on my book of the same name, we will discover the heart and voice of God each week as we dive into prophetic intercession.
• Prep Room: We will all punch through invisible walls as we pray in the Holy Spirit together for an hour prior to the Saturday main event.
• Coffee & Social: You will have the opportunity to serve coffee and food each Saturday prior to the main event.  This will be a great way to meet and get to know some new friends to the ministry.
• Staff Meeting: Each week we’ll gather together for teaching and instruction specifically in relation to our goals as a staff.
• Traveling Teams: While not required, I’m sure several will enjoy the opportunity to visit churches, camps and conferences as we take theBurning on the road!
• Soaking/Intimacy Driven Prayer:  Time in the presence of God with an emphasis on intimacy will help all of us as a staff each week.
• Ministry assignments: There will be opportunities to serve outside of the group setting for those who are interested.

Some of the specific staff opportunities include:

• Administration: We need a top notch administrator who can help with marketing, scheduling remote theBurning events, connecting with ministry leaders, communicating with those in our ministry and other important tasks.
• Worship Team: We will be developing a worship team full of people who intimately know God and who can take others into that secret place with them.
• Media: In addition to sound and internal video, we desire to stream our services and prayer meetings live online.
• Environment: Several people are needed to ensure the overall environment is alive, clean, professional and excellent.  We’ll need ushers, greeters, food prep, etc.
• Children: While space is limited, we do plan on providing children’s ministry for ages 1-4.
• Ministry Team: If you are full of life and the power of the Holy Spirit and love to minister to people at the altar, we need you!
• Prophecy Team: This team is already under development and it will be a strong foundational ministry for us.

Please note, this is a ministry that spans the generations, and we want to see all age groups represented.  We want the fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, grandparents and children.

Everybody will be responsible to provide for their own living expenses and, if applicable, travel expenses.

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial that airs in the middle of the night…

…I’m writing this article sitting in a private park, at the pool overlooking a beautiful lake with yachts cruising by.  I’m working.  

Ok, it sounds way of the top, and I’ll be the first to admit that we have many struggles in our lives as a family, but the above statement is true!

I’m watching Skylar and Parker in the swimming pool right now.  There goes fearless Parker… he just jumped off the diving board.

I’m about to start working for a graphic design client as I hang out here in the park with worship music streaming on my laptop for the rest of the afternoon.

The point of all of this?  I’m not fully free to give my appropriate level of focus to ministry, but I’m closer than I was even a couple of months ago.  God has enabled us to develop several streams of income so we can travel and minister at the drop of a hat.  I can focus significantly on developing our upcoming prophetic school of revival, theBurning.  I’ll be in Colorado Springs next week working with some ministry leaders.  It’s a trip that I was able to plan at the last minute.

Now, if any of the streams of income, which include Melaleuca, graphic design, fundraising, book sales, etc. were to slow down, we’d be in trouble.  But, as we keep developing each stream, we are able to minister and spend a lot of time together as a family.

Our heart is for you is the same- to be entirely free to fulfill your ministry and to be with your family.

The idea that money immediately follows as we step out into our calling is dispelled in that article.  In reality, we are called to steward our callings.  It’s up to us to ensure that nothing stands in the way.  As we steward our calling, work hard, pray for wisdom and put together a strong, strategic financial portfolio we will find God blessing it powerfully.

For example, for a missionary, it’s not wise to rely on a single financial stream, such as fundraising.  God is very creative and resourceful… most successful ministry leaders have their hands on many different financial endeavors.  They own businesses, invest in real estate, have online and home businesses, etc.

Coming in September 2009: theBurning : A Prophetic School of Revival

Landing here in Michigan has resulted in a shock to some systems, ours included.  We are more aware than ever of Satan’s intent to destroy us and those who are apostolically advancing here.  The ‘maddening spirit’ prophecy that I gave a few months ago is more real to me than ever.  You can read about that here and here.

There’s a large segment of the Church that doesn’t acknowledge the need to engage in spiritual warfare.  Many presume action against the enemy equates with fear or a lack of understanding of our victory in Christ.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  In fact, it’s because of our victory and position in Christ that we have the confidence to fight!

Others presume Christians to be immune from demonic attack, and that Christ’s work on Calvary deems it unnecessary to battle any more.

This is key: The blood of Christ doesn’t grant us immunity, it empowers us!

Just as we wouldn’t show a maddened, psychotic, masked man who has invaded our home with plans to kill us and our family a gun and presume he will go quietly, we can’t simply mention the blood of Jesus to the enemy. We must apply the blood. We must fight covered in the blood.  We must battle from the position of victory that we have because of the blood of Christ.

As we advance the Kingdom of God here in Detroit, in Colorado Springs and in other cities through efforts like theBURNING (www.theburningschool.com), we must be very aware of the enemy’s schemes.  We are developing a solid team of warfare minded, prophetic intercessors who won’t simply ‘say a prayer’, but who will fight with fury!

In 2 Corinthians 2:11 the Apostle Paul said, “Satan must not be allowed to get the victory here, for we are not ignorant of his devices, schemes or battle plans.”

Honestly, it’s foolishness to presume that there is no fight when Satan is ripping people to shreds every day.  Babies are murdered legally.  Marriages are torn apart by divorce.  Pornography has invaded the homes and minds of most.  The homosexual agenda is winning the battle for the family.

Of course we must fight- and with great violence!

We must intercede if we presume to have any chance at victory at all.

A lifestyle of warfare prayer requires much… and when the church finds itself on its face for hours at a time, day after day, we’ll have the glimpse into the invisible, supernatural realm that will sober us, shake us and educate us in a moment on the need to fight demons with violence!

The Nero Spirit

As we continue to progress into what Dr. C. Peter Wagner has referred to as the second apostolic age, we can expect the same spirits that attacked the first apostolic age to come at us. The purpose of both of these moves of God is the reformation of society through the establishment of the kingdom rule of God. This is what Jesus came to earth to accomplish. This can only occur through that which is apostolic. It takes apostolic authority, strategies, and power to see the kingdoms of this world begin to reflect the splendor of God’s kingdom. The devil will not just lay down and allow this to happen. He has plans and plots to resist and stop this ultimate purpose of God in the earth.

Without being aware of this fully, I suddenly had a dream and heard what I understood to be the schemes of the devil to thwart the effort of the Lord through His apostles to see the reforming of society take place. What I am about to share, I have never thought of before. It came as a complete revelation from the Lord to me. I believe it is an uncovering of the devil’s plans and also some wisdom for us on what to look for and somewhat what to do about it. It may help explain even what some are presently facing or will face in times to come. As with any true revelation of the Lord, there is a comfort in knowing that if the Lord is showing us these things, then we are on the right track in seeking to see a demonstration of God’s rule come to the seven mountains of society. The Lord will uncover the devil’s wiles and will give us wisdom in how to counter them.

In the dream I became aware of the Spirit of the Lord speaking to me.  He said that “apostles” are in nature militaristic.  The word apostle was first used in the Greek as a military term that referred to a commander of a fleet of naval ships.  The term’s denotation as well as its connotation was military – not religious. I was then told that this is why Nero persecuted the early church with such vengeance. Nero, the leader of the Roman Empire beginning in A.D. 55, understood that when this church led by “apostles” was coming to his empire that they were coming as an army representing another government called the kingdom of God. The clue for him was the term “apostle” as he recognized the significance of its meaning indicating a military threat. This is what I understood in the vision. The purpose of this “government” was to take over and reform the earth including Nero’s government and reign in Rome. This was very threatening to Nero, hence the persecution that he unleashed against this military institution called the church led by these commanders called “apostles”.

I then became aware that there is a releasing and arising of the spirit of Nero at this time to resist and fight against the apostles that God has and is positioning to bring reformation and establish the government of the kingdom of God in the earth. The purpose of this spirit is to stop the apostles from unveiling and implementing strategies that will result in the reformation of society through the establishing of kingdom rule in the 7 mountains of society.

This Nero spirit has several means of doing this. First and foremost this spirit is anti-christ at its core. Revelation 13:18 says that the number 666 is the number of a man. We have understood this to be the anti-christ spirit embodied in a man. It is known that the early church recognized that Nero’s name had a numerical value of 666. Nero was the anti-christ spirit manifesting itself in mortal flesh.

We must realize that this anti-christ spirit is going to arise with a new power to fight against the apostles and prophets and their effort to bring reformation and implement the government of God in the earth. There is going to be a persecution against anything that is apostolic that is after the reforming of society.

One of the attributes of this spirit was manifested in Nero through the murders that he ordered.  He diabolically persecuted and martyred many, many Christian in the most inhumane of ways. He used Christians as human torches in his garden at night as he hosted parties and gatherings. He covered them with animal skins and turned wild animals loose on them before crowds in the coliseum until they were torn to pieces and dismembered before the cheering people.

This spirit is very cruel and hurtful and will stop at nothing to stop the reforming work of God through the apostles. We must cover with the blood of Jesus those who are true apostles in this reformation and those joined to them. This includes family members, children, spouses and anyone that is dear to these apostolic leaders. This spirit will seek to physically hurt and even kill those that have this assignment on their lives. We are in a battle with the utmost at stake. Let’s gird up our loins and go for it with full abandonment.

Another trait that characterizes this spirit is betrayal. Nero actually poisoned his own mother and other close family members. Apostolic leaders and their prayer team must guard and cover themselves and the ones in which they have their trust. This spirit will seek to invade the closest of circles and put betrayal in the heart of those who are assigned to help the apostles in their effort of reformation. These circles of kingdom purpose must be guarded with a wise and strategic prayer base and also those who are with the apostles being aware of the target painted on their backs. We are warned of this spirit of betrayal in Micah 7:5-6:

Do not trust in a friend;

Do not put your confidence in a companion;

Guard the doors of your mouth

From her who lies in your bosom.

For son dishonors father,

Daughter rises against her mother,

Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.

This is not to say that we walk about with suspicion in our hearts, but rather that we stay on guard and encourage those who walk with us to do the same. We must endeavor to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:3) Th3 passage in Micah continues in verses 7-8 declaring in regards to the betrayal targeting the leaders of this reformation:

Therefore I will look to the Lord;

I will wait for the God of my salvation;

My God will hear me.

Do not rejoice over me, my enemy;

When I fall, I will arise;

When I sit in darkness,

The Lord will be a light to me.

The Lord will support and fight against this spirit of betrayal. He will hear our cry as we seek to remove this spirit from our circles of apostolic life and ministry.

This spirit that drove Nero was also one of slander. When Rome burned in his reign, Nero blamed the Christians for the fire which released persecution on an unparalleled level against this group. This slander was designed to discredit and neutralize the affect of this move of God in culture. Paul encountered this in the Corinthian church when he was warring for his apostolic place in the house and that culture. II Corinthians 7:2 shows Paul seeking to battle this spirit of slander against him that was trying to stop his influence in culture:

Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one.

The heart of this people had closed toward Paul as a result of this spirit of slander driven by an anti-christ spirit. It starts unfounded rumors and defames the character of those commissioned to lead the charge of reformation. We must take a stand in the spirit and dismantle this activity and function of this spirit. Any true apostolic leader assigned by God will encounter this devilish plot.

One final observation concerning this spirit is that it is full of perversion and sexual impurity. Nero was given over to all sorts of immoralities including incest, homosexuality, orgies and the like. Any apostolic person or team set for reformation must guard their heart and keep themselves free from this seductive spirit of sexual perversion. We know that this is one of the main realms that is used to bring down apostolic power resulting in reformation. This spirit of Nero will use these things against those who do not guard themselves and cause the apostolic authority to disintegrate from the inside out. We must be committed to a life of holiness, purity and blamelessness in these matters. The power of the Holy Spirit will empower us to live these kinds of lives of freedom so that we may be entrusted with what is necessary to see reformation born into the earth.

I am sure there are other aspects to this Nero spirit. These are just a few. I am convinced by the revelation of the Lord through His visitation that this is a spirit we must plan to counter and move against. It is one of the chief spirits that is being unleashed to counter the apostolic move of God to birth reformation. We must move against it with the plans of the Lord and take our military attack to the next levels. We will see the strategies of the Lord unveiled and reformation born in the earth. We are the army of God engaged against this Nero spirit and we will prevail.

As we are continuing to prepare for the coming revival in Detroit and in the cities of the Earth, it’s important to consider all of the obstacles, necessary focuses, practical issues and spiritual emphases.  Revival won’t simply break out because we are hungry. 

In fact, there’s every reason why revival WON’T launch, and if we’re not careful, the hope of a great outpouring will result in overwhelming disappointment.

Revival isn’t as much a sovereign move of God as it is an obedient move of man.

We have a part to play and a job to do.

Some of the concerns that we must understand are:

• Time- have we made room on our daily calendars for the extreme requirement of time that revival will demand?
• Money- Do we have several streams of income developed so the loss of one won’t threaten our involvement?
• Conflict- Are we prepared to handle resistance and conflict that revival will bring to us individually?
• Passion- Are we worn out and apathetic, or will our passion for Jesus drive us until it’s realized?
• Judgment- Do we understand that God’s judgment, which is wrapped in his zealous love, will bring a great shaking to us and those around us?
• Warfare- Do we understand the schemes of the enemy?

The enemy will do everything he can to disrupt, disable and delay our involvement.

There are countless issues to consider, and we can talk about them tonight, Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at 7pm Eastern!

We are being driven by God’s amazing grace right now as we’re multitasking more than ever.  Not only am I spending hours working on graphic design, and developing our new home business, but I’m in prayer, teaching, traveling and launching a new “School of Revival” called “The Burning” here in Detroit.

I’m also planning on flying to Colorado Springs in a couple of weeks to connect with ministry leaders there, and also to discuss the possibility of developing a sister ministry through RHOP.  We’d call it “The Burning” as well.  Depending on how things pan out, I would have to be in The Springs once or twice a month.

My heart is to see “Revelation Driven” churches, ministries and houses of prayer launch around the world. The Burning will be based on my books Revelation Driven Prayer and 20 Elements of Revival.  As we focus intently on encountering God, hearing his voice and responding with great faith and authority we’ll see our ministries enter the fast lane.

I’ll be 40 years old on Friday!  My birthday wish?  Well, if you know me, you know I have a bunch.  But, a big one is this: Ten new team members to start their new business while I’m still in my 30’s!  We have less than 2 days to see this wish come true!  Then, I’ll start my 40’s helping YOU become a Director and beyond!

Amy’s driving and I’m relaxing as we are on the home stretch to Grosse Pointe Park.  We just ate a massive German meal in Frakenmuth, played miniature golf with the kids and enjoyed a beautiful Michigan day together.

We had a relaxing and exciting time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this weekend.  I ministered twice at a great forerunner church in the region and we were so blessed by all that God did and by the new friends we made there. 

We have been busier than literally any time of our lives… productivity is quite high right now!

Our ministry, my graphic design business and our Melaleuca business have filled our calendars pretty fully (not to mention moving, unpacking and getting settled in our new home). 

Side note- we honestly think nearly everybody would benefit from signing up with Melaleuca!  We honestly can’t think of too many reasons (if any) for anybody to not shop there (much less, build a business!)  it’s quite possible to see your monthly bills decrease immediately!  We heard someone say they felt they had a moral obligation to share Melaleuca with everybody they can.  After a few weeks in the business, we easily concur!

We are working on the NEW prayer, prophecy and revival center that will launch out of IHOPE later this year.  It is called The Burning and will be a unique and  strategic call to unify for the sake of legitimate revival on a city level. We’ll be discussing this more as a leadership team and we’ll be sure to let you know the updates as they arrive.

I’ll also be the keynote speaker at The Intensive at IHOPE in July.  If you have young people between the ages of 13-18, be sure to register them!  The evening sessions will be open to everybody of any age… so, plan on seven nights of FIRE!

God is AMAZING!  Last night I taught on living a prophetic life via the breadcrumbs from God’s hand.

We as the church are entering a season where it will become quite detrimental to default to common sense or patterns of old at the cost of God’s precise revelation.  We must have a constantly clean slate- free from static, worry, second guessing or stress if we are to fulfill our ministries.  As we stop wrestling and simply take a step into a strange new territory as we watch breadcrumb after breadcrumb mark our paths, we’ll move at the appropriate pace into our destinies.

Example:

Long story very short, we saw a breadcrumb fall onto our family’s path when Amy prayed for our house to be sold in less than 7 days if we were to move to Detroit.  It sold in 6.  For full price.  In a devastating economy.  In America’s 8th fastest dying city.

Now, it’s nearly impossible to doubt that God is ordering our steps.  It’s easier to believe than doubt.  Our slate was cleared.  So, without seeing the next breadcrumb yet, we load up the moving truck and drive to Detroit- with no home to unload our household into.

Again, with a clean slate, no worry, no doubt and lots of excitement we look for a house on Thursday.  Nothing.  We wake up on Friday morning and look for a house.  Nothing.  We had to find a place that day (yesterday!) to avoid a $100 a day surcharge on the moving truck.  It has to be unloaded and returned by 3pm today (Saturday).  In the afternoon we were driving to another home that was for lease, and as we were about to arrive, the Lord told me, “The next house you see will be your home.”

We loved it.  But, the price was too high.  But, we had the breadcrumb of God’s word.  This was to be our house.  We offered $400 a month less than what it was listed for.  We waited as our house hunting window of opportunity was closing. Then the phone rang.  Offer accepted.  Another breadcrumb.

Today we are unloading the truck at noon and I’ll have it back just under the gun at 3pm to avoid the surcharge on the truck.

God is good.

We are so excited to be here in the Detroit area.  Grosse Pointe is an amazing place to live, right by the water and an incredible private park.  The houses around ours are unreal. The shopping village has Amy coming alive!  She plans on shopping almost entirely at Trader Joes and Melaleuca now.  See ya Walmart (well, maybe)!

Which takes us to our business… it’s thriving!  The time is really now to jump on board with us.  We bet that it makes clear sense for the very high majority of people to be a Melaleuca member, whether its for the product alone or to enjoy the amazing business aspect of it. Especially intercessory missionaries, ministers, stay at home moms, students and nearly every other group of people!  No risk, huge blessing, great product, no extra bills, $29 membership fee.  It’s a win-win-win situation.
