• Finding the data – It’s a bit like ‘where’s Waldo?’  You know that data exists everywhere in the organization, in multiple departments and in multiple systems.  To determine if it’s relevant to reporting, you first need to locate it.
• Determining the processes that govern the activities and collection of data
• Identifying the relationships between different transactions and activities
• Determining what gives rise to reportable spend transactions in your organization and what might color spending decisions
• Tips from the trenches – learn from the experiences of others as they’ve mastered how best to approach this first step
