You’re headed up to school. You have your list made. You’re not going to forget you Xbox or your textbooks, but have you started to consider prank ideas for the upcoming school year? A big part of dorm life at any university is screwing with each other. I’ve had luck with these pranks, so go ahead and give them a try.

[Warning: It's not my fault if these pranks go terribly wrong, but if they do I would love to hear about it.]

Duct Tape Doors: Ask any of your roommates for a roll of duct tape and every one of them will have one. You should never go anywhere without one. But what are you going to fix? Your bike? No. Use it to tape up a fellow roommate’s door while they are sleeping. In the morning (or that night, if you can’t wait), watch their attempts at getting out of their rooms. Fortunately, the roommates I chose didn’t have anything to cut the sticky wall down and it was entertaining to watch them try to break the Gorilla Tape’s bond with the door frame.

I got this prank of video. It’s uneventful, but it looks cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2K4S2dBF0g

Cereal Box of Shaving Cream: Yes this actually works. Fill any cereal box with foamy shaving cream. Find a roommate who is in their room with the door closed. QUIETLY, flatten the open end of the box and slide it under the door approximately four of five inches. There are two ways you can go about doing this prank. 1: Just stomp on the box and run, leaving the room covered in foam and the roommate pissed. OR 2: Knock on the door, hope your roommate hasn’t heard of the prank, and then stomp. If your roommate is dumb enough to come to the door they’ll be hit in the face with some serious foam-age.

Axe Grenades: In an attempt to appeal to more college-age students, the Axe company decided to pass out samples of their body spray to any student interested. I, being the frugal person that I am, decided to take a whole box back to my room. Now, I grew out of wearing the Axe scent after 7th grade, but I found a much better use.

If you still have that duct tape handy, start tearing off 6inch long pieces. Attach one end of the tape to the side of a can and find your target. It’s best to find an open door with multiple unsuspecting people housed. When you have found your target, pull the other end of the tape over the spray button tightly and throw quickly. The best part is watching the Axe fill the room and your targets have no idea what is going on. Be careful though, an Axe grenade is usually the beginning of a brutal Axe war.

If you have any luck with any of these pranks or have some new pranks, please leave a comment below or tweet me with the video link.

The default Twitter themes are boring. Some might say Twitter is boring, but that’s completely besides the point. Finding a great background to separate yourself from the thousands of others hasn’t always been easy, until I found PatternWall.

There are countless sites around interwebs that are offering customized Twitter themes, but most of them are more worried about promoting themselves on every theme used. PatternWall.com is a Tumblr-based site that displays about 100 different tile-able patterns that can be used on any Twitter account and/or any other projects you see fit. The best part is there is no sign-up and you just click, download, and you’re done.

There are a number of styles of patterns including plaid, grunge, shapes, and stripes. I really wish the patterns were in a higher resolution. Some of them are very blurry and even unusable, but I can only expect that to change with time. This is a new site and I’m interested to see if they’ll add more patterns periodically and/or how they will fix the quality issues plaguing the site currently.

Facebook is no longer for the college student who likes to post pictures of the sick party the previous night. It’s open to the high schoolers, business professionals, and yes, even your mom.

So when a parent joins Facebook, there are a few things you’re likely to do, but does it really matter?

Untag yourself from the photos that show you in a bad light. This bad light, may include you consuming too much of a substance or getting that tattoo of the girl from a rum bottle (of which you thought was a great idea, at the time).

That dirty mouth your mom would have grounded you for when you were a kid is now in full strength on Facebook. But it’s not like your parents are going to ground you, you’re an adult now, right? You might censor yourself the next time you’re on.

Ultimately, you may keep yourself looking like an angel in front of your parents, but only for a couple weeks. You’ll fall back into the way you really are. What’s wrong with that? Don’t worry, your parents already know you’re a tad profane, thanks to that nosy cousin of yours.

Since I have a lot of time on my hands due to the fact that I’m not working (email me if you have work), I have found a way to still spend my money even when I’m not making any. Napster was the very first music service I used. Yes, iTunes wasn’t even on my radar at the time. And now I’m back, well not exclusively.

Listening to GDGT a couple weeks ago I heard about Napster’s new subscription model. For only $5 a month you get 5 free mp3 songs and unlimited browser streaming of it’s seven million song library. For only $5 I find this to be an exceptional deal. You already get your money’s worth with the five songs, but the streaming is the cherry on top.

The streaming works in-browser, there is nothing to install, so you can access your whole streaming library on any computer. This is escpecially useful on my Hp Mini because I can have any amount of songs and not have to worry about hard drive space (which is lacking on the 16gb solid state drive).

Amazon MP3 is great for getting cheap, high quality songs. iTunes is great for iPod syncing and app store. Napster is fantastic when I don’t have either my computer or iPod near.

Now where is the Napster iPhone app?

Just because you live right next to a public (floor) restroom does not mean you should walk barefoot in it. It’s no different than walking around in some nasty ass gas station bathroom. Don’t do it!

If you use Febreze, it means something is not clean. Febreze does not clean, nor does it make something smell clean, try Tide.

Playing your music so loud that everyone can hear it is not cool. Ask any of your neighbors and they will hate you for it.

Don’t bother trying to change someone’s mind about politics. It will only end up in a contest of who can talk louder.

Stealing someone’s towel while they’re in the shower will only be the beginning of a terrible war. Be prepared for wet clothes, sticky door knobs, and every prank in the book.

No matter where you go, you will always have the cocky high school football player in your proximity. Don’t worry though, it’s not high school anymore.

The half cologne, half body odor, half alcohol musk coming from your room not only makes paint peel, it tells anyone walking by to stay away.

When I open Firefox the first thing I go to is my Facebook and I keep it open the duration of my web experience. Instead of keeping a tab open for my Facebook, I want the Facebook chat to be available on every page. I don’t care how it’s done, but I think it would be extremely popular (especially among myself). With the ability to have it open and functional on every page, users could post cool links and chat any time while navigating the web.

There could be many ways of adding Facebook chat to every page. There could be a browser plugin, maybe a Greasemonkey script, or use Facebook’s Connect feature. The Facebook chat bar could be used for more than just chat, it could be used as a login for sites using Facebook Connect.

I want this and I don’t think it would be too difficult to pull off. If it already exists please put a link in the comments. I thank you in advance.

Would you use this if it were available? Am I asking for something no one else would use? Leave your opinion in the comments.

Just over the past weekend I have visited Craigslist every hour. Why? Keeping a close eye on newly posted cars. Now that I have found the perfect car, I’m questioning the design of Craigslist. I know the creators were going for simple, quick design, but I think Craigslist needs some minor tweaks to keep its user’s eyes from bleeding.

I think the biggest problem is how easy it is to skip over something. If they were to add better divisions between each posting I wouldn’t have to do double triple takes to make sure I’m seeing everything.

Craigslist can keep it simple, but tweak the design and space the whole thing out. Maybe change the colors to something more modern. While I was writing this I found this great Smashing Magazine article about redesigning Craigslist. I don’t think I would go that much into changing the site, but I do agree on many of the ideas they bring up.

Would you change Craigslist?

In my Design 122 class we were required to pick one everyday object and create something functional out of it. I decided to choose the most fragile of objects, a light bulb. The table, which would go great next to a couch, is about 22″ tall and made only of light bulbs (about 60) and hot glue.

Light Bulb Side Table

Surprisingly, the way I glued them together created an extremely sturdy structure. I still wouldn’t use this if I had a dog or were clumsy, but I like how it turned out. Wasn’t able to afford a piece of tempered glass to go on top, yeah I’m a college student.

What do you think?

Ever since Facebook introduced the ability to post links I have been posting some of the most interesting, weird, and funny stuff I find everyday. I have been asked by so many people, “Where do you find this stuff?” Instead of letting just my friends enjoy what I post I have decided to create a Tumblr blog. It is simple. Just links, videos, and photos. Nothing to strenuous.

Mother Bacon

Mother Bacon is also in the sidebar –>

Facebook is popular. Everyone has one and when I say everyone, I mean your Mom, Aunt, and even teacher. So what do you do when your Mom or family friend decides to add you as a friend on the big FB?

It’s not that I have anything to hide. Aside from some profane language and goofy pictures there isn’t anything that would warrant problems. But it’s the fact that I’ve never considered my Aunt a friend. They are family, but not a friend. Facebook is for friends, or is it? As Facebook becomes even more popular, users are going to have to decide…Do I add my Mom? Is Facebook for friends? For Family? For Both?!

I try to think of Facebook as a group of friends. Would I invite my teacher over for a night of Halo? No. Would I ask my Aunt to go see a movie? NO.

But if I don’t add them it will definitely create some awkward situations. Do you have an answer to The Facebook Dilemma?
