East Coast Contemporary Aboriginal Art is one of the first major exhibitions of contemporary Aboriginal art in Halifax since Re-claiming History opened at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in June 2000. It focuses on contemporary East Coast Aboriginal art and is curated by renowned Mii’kmaq artist Alan Syliboy. Snapshot will showcase recent work of six emerging and mid-career artists: Frannie Fancis, Ursula Johnson, Dozay Christmas, Charles Doucette, Gerald Gloade, and Jerry Evans.

Opening reception on July 6.

Resistance, Refugees, Rights and Return, the Vancouver Delegation to Gaza 2012 will travel to Gaza in early summer 2012. As part of our delegation, we will meet with health work, refugee rights, BDS, women's, students and youth organizations and work to build links between progressive movements here and the Palestinian revolutionary left.

We will be holding a community reportback in Vancouver on July 22, and in the meantime, will be producing blogs, videos, and a written report documenting our experience.

The Congress of Progressive Filipino Canadians (CPFC), its member organizations and allies invite all to participate in “Workers Struggles Amidst Neoliberal Globalization,” to be held on August 11th and 12th at the United Steel Workers Hall in Toronto. As workers’ lives and conditions are being edged onto the precipice of society by the crisis of neoliberal globalization, the conference hopes to meet this critical moment by underscoring the important role that all workers have to play in addressing the challenges and opportunities at hand.

The Writers at Woody Point literary festival in Woody Point, Bonne Bay, Newfoundland had its inaugural season in 2004. The festival is organized and presented by Friends of Writers at Woody Point and, each year, has played to sold-out audiences. This year, as in the past, the event will be hosted by CBC Radio’s Shelagh Rogers, host of “The Next Chapter" a show about Canadian writing and writers.

The lovely and historic western Newfoundland village of Woody Point, on the south shore of Bonne Bay, is surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of Gros Morne National Park. Writers, artists and scientists are drawn here from around the world.
