Dare to Wear Love is the first exhibition devoted to the celebrated work of top Canadian fashion designers created to raise awareness and funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation and their work to address the AIDS/HIV pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa.

Speaking to the potency and poignancy of artistic expression within a global context, this installation showcases pieces created from African cloth by Canada's top fashion designers including Brian Bailey, David Dixon, Fashion Crimes and Linda Lundström as part of Dare to Wear Love, an innovative creative platform initiated by Jim Searle and Chris Tyrell, designers and founders of Hoax Couture.

Presented by the Textile Museum of Canada in collaboration with Hoax Couture and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

In spite of widespread opposition, the statement made by two provinces (Ontario and Quebec) that they will refuse to pay - and even the warnings of the state of Texas - Canada's Bill C-10, the Conservative Omnibus Crime Bill, is poised to become law by March 16, 2012. The bill will institute sweeping changes that will produce more crime and more prisoners, just in time to fill the super-prisons scheduled for construction across the country.

The first women's memorial march was held in 1991 in response to the murder of a Coast Salish woman on Powell Street in Vancouver. Her name is not spoken today out of respect for the wishes of her family. Out of this sense of hopelessness and anger came an annual march on Valentine's Day to express compassion, community, and caring for all women in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, Unceded Coast Salish Territories. Twenty one years later, the women's memorial march continues to honour the lives of missing and murdered women.

Between two worlds: The Jewish American cultural wars

The film, Between Two Worlds, begins at the 2009 San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, and the fallout over the screening of a documentary about activist Rachel Corrie, which is also critical of Israel. Filmed in the United States and Israel, Between Two Worlds is a personal documentary that explores the divisions that are redefining Jewish identity and politics in America and beyond. Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge live and work in Toronto. They have collaborated with various trade union and community organizations in the production of their staged photographic work over the past 30 years. Their work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally in both the trade union movement and art galleries and museums. Recently their work has been included in exhibitions at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery , Cork, Ireland, a survey exhibition at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario, and the Noorderlicht Photofestival , Groningen, Holland.

In this wide ranging and far reaching examination of the role of Palestine in the Great Games, the metaphor for grand geopolitical strategy involving nations and peoples first introduced by Zbigniew Brzezinski, in his 1998 book, The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and It's Geostrategic Imperatives, author and journalist Eric Walberg paints a broad canvas putting Palestine both at the centre and the periphery of 100 years of modern and postmodern colonialism. Drawn from extensive travels and research outlined in his most recent book, Postmodern Imperialism: Geopolitics and the Great Game, Walberg shows how Palestine, despite its helplessness, is in a sense the most powerful player in the Great Games and its fate holds the key to the endgame.

Belleville's DownTown DocFest

Belleville's first international documentary film festival, DownTown DocFest, will launch a day and half of films with a gala evening featuring the potent film “Music From the Big House” followed by a concert with blues singer and star of the film, Rita Chiarelli.

DocFest will feature original international, national and community films by highly acclaimed film makers and directors, More than 25 films will be screened starting on Friday afternoon at The Core Centre for the Arts and continuing at noon on Saturday the 3rd at both The Core Centre and the Belleville Public Library.

Facilitators aren't supposed to run the show, and they do more than keep track of who wants to speak. In this workshop you'll learn and practice some steps, tools, techniques and approaches that can help you effectively facilitate meetings - and that includes those difficult meetings.

European pearls -- Sinfonia Toronto masterpiece concert

Sinfonia Toronto's next Masterpiece Series concert will feature the virtuosic Double Bass Concerto No. 2 by Bottesini performed by orchestra member, double bassist Calum MacLeod and Jeonghwan Yoon on violin.

In commenting on the program, Music Director Nurhan Arman states "It is a wonderful opportunity to perform the Bottesini's Double Bass Concerto No. 2 with a soloist from within the orchestra. This incredibly challenging piece is a treat for the orchestra and audience."

Music Director, Nurhan Arman will conduct the concert. The orchestra will also perform Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 15, and the Toronto premiere of Angelova's Pagan Dances.
