4 "F" words: Family + Friends + Follow Up = Fired Up!

Recently I attended a panel discussion for start-ups and small businesses about venture capital and fundraising at a LaunchVT, Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce event. I went in fired up to learn, to see familiar folks and meet new ones. It was a fun opportunity to promote my company and product in an arena with like-minded entrepreneurs who are also on unique paths to success, just like I am.
I had the chance to follow up with business collaborators and share my excitement about how my business ideas could be beneficial.
Among the crowd were entrepreneurs at all different stages of growth, but we all acquired knowledge and business know-how that gets us to putter, speed, or slide down our trails. Whatever the stage or the pace, we all share the same end goal.
At the panel I thought about my own business research. I heard things like "assemble the right team, communicate often with investors, believe in yourself, your product services and your business idea, be persistent, don’t give up, understand your cost of goods and your margins", and more. It was good to hear, even better digested with my business associates, friends, even better supported by family, who know me also as a person separate from my business.
All this positive reinforcement is good food for thought, even better digested with business associates, friends, and further supported by my family, who knows me as a person separately from work. My confidence and consistency has been even better fortified by the results of proud cold calls, collaborative work and client follow up. All these things lead to that fire and drive which move my team, my business forward, and me.
Yes, feeling fired up is crucial to my motivation. Getting there is a combination of many things. At the top of the list: results of interactions, support, and relations established along the way.
At Mosedale Integrated Solutions we have been worked hard to learn to stoke the fire, and we have built a pile of fuel to keep it and burning steady.
I could not continue to grow without solid support from my family. They support the typical undulations of small business growth in a chaotic opportunistic environment. I also have support from many business relationships, which lend perspective, essential feedback that in to fog of war I may miss.
This 'fired-up’ feeling, climbing back on the horse, persistence and diligence needed in business and growth that can’t be monetized, is for me, the true value and authenticity of my brand, company and team. It is the grit of my 'fire' that leads me from one level to the next. My team, and all the inspiration around me propels me forward.
From my scientific background, I look at this as a systematic, scientific process:
• Stimulus
Family=Support/Understanding
Friends=Feedback/Reality Check
Business Collaborators=Incentive/Drive and Decision Check

• Response
Follow-Up=Reflection/Decision Validation
Fired-up=Determinations and gritty goal attainment (considering situational reality with increased determinations)

Involvement in panels, conferences, workshops, client engagement and the relationships established in these venues amongst family and friends and collaboration can also be quite organic. It is that human layer, the living layer inside, that makes the process move forward, but without 4 F’s (Family, Fiends, Follow-Up, Fired-Up) along the way then the oxygen needed to fuel the fire becomes futile. I am blessed to have and to foster the continuous fuel oxygen and carbon through my family, friends, and business partners. I recognize that following up with them, enlisting them to the team, and opening the damper, will kindle an ember leading to continued growth, smiles and success.

Success. Is it Really What The Coach Pep Talk is All About?

The Definition of Success.

I find myself digging deep these past weeks. Really mulling over a lot of things (Business, Life, Friends, Family, and Myself). And from all this what has mainly bubble up to the surface is how success is defined or perceived. How it is perceived by other people you are collaborating and working with or working for. I guess it can sugar off to point of view. But success, I feel for all no matter who you are what you do or what your perspective, is that warm fuzzy that makes you hair stand up:

Kicking a Soccer Goal
Refinishing an old Rocking Chair
Striking an Arc and Nice Welding Bead
Landing a New bike Trick
Finding a Lost Partition on a Corrupt Hard Drive, and High Fiving when you do!

I am sidetracking, if that is a word. But really, recently I was collaborating with a few folks on a software hardware IT project, we had a lot of great breakthroughs, it was success in a team aspect, the parallel thinking of two or more arriving at an end result the success was the sharing the predictive understanding of the scope and task that we all bring to the table. It is challenging working with others, knowing when to stand down or rise up, but you will dam well know when the success is reached. You will feel that the common cooperation/collaboration of one step in front of each other as well as in unison. Boom! It is really a common idea of what needs to be delivered.

Enter Erik Piip, a friend collaborator, my goto person for challenging hardware and software questions and support. He is a veteran computer person and one of my many mentors. He has seen it all. Seen failure and success over and over again in projects and tasks. Usually defined by the hardware and software that defines the current technology which is always changing. Erik 'gets it'. He has seen most binary mishaps. I and like others in IT have as well, yet he just has veteran knowledge and experiences- his success if you will. He understands the delivery model and the arrival at success the common in sync or predictive warm fuzzy you get when you thread that needle that arriving at the unreachable goal.

Erik has seen technology in its dwarf infancy clunky, slow and large. It was warm dusty, and cumbersome. Not at all like the slick sexy, lean and quick gadgets of today. This was the trend of technology in the 70's, he lived it as it approached what it is today and continues to morph into. Right.... Success, that is what we are talking about. Rapid change with deliverables in a collaborative team environment. The cradle to grave of a magnitude of gadgets rolling out weekly monthly as circuit and processing chip changes. I can only look back based on a great book by Walter Isaacson: The Innovators: How a Group of Inventors, Hackers, Geniuses, and Geeks Created the Digital Revolution.

This Book explores the history of the key technological innovations that are prominent in the digital revolution, most notably the parallel developments of the computer and the Internet. It became a New York Times bestseller.^[15] Writing for the New York Times, Janet Maslin described the author as "a kindred spirit to the visionaries and enthusiasts" who Isaacson wrote about.^[16]

It Takes a Village- Thank You for My Education

Family and Friends

So I'm 42 years old, and it still takes a village to succeed, strive and live in this world. The old saying goes ‘give a person a fish he eats for a day, teach a person to fish they eat forever’. Yes that is right, but I’m not wagging my finger in your face on not on my soap box making a speech. Instead, I’m truly speaking from the heart here. Everyday, I came across situation where I, or my colleagues, are learning from others’ learning from how we were treated or have experienced our past journey, growing up and living.

I recently talked to some old family friends. We reminisced about how it was not just direct family that influenced me in my upbringing, but how others did too. It was the hour ride down the highway to visit my mother, sick in the hospital, offered up by the community at large in our small town. These people recognized that not only was there a need to visit and support a person who is sick but to make it easy, wrap each other in love, create a transparent and accessible mode for her son and daughter to visit their sick mother without a stigma or feel of weirdness even though it was a bizarre strange time for us all. This was not like a charity case scenario, it was the definition of transparent compassion that comes from one's inside understanding of the human condition. The visitations, and driving, and my mom’s sickness for that matter, was not a major headline and ordeal, they were offerings to my, dad, my sister, and other family friends to feel a part/included in the world’s day to day operations. Although a strange situation, to me it was not stage at all.

I translate these action into my day-to-day understanding and operations as #radandy and at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. I reach out, listen actively, and pay forward in kind offerings the same ones afforded to me. This can be in the form of explaining a system and its set up in general terms, it could be sharing skills regarding woodworking, and crafting, be proud of a creation one has made. It is the joy of the story, the explanation of the #shredderbot story at a local school. Prototyping a medical device which had been a hand-drawn sketch that my son had transposed into digital format. Pure joy! You remember the ones who influenced you and currently at time I have connected with them recently and it has been a great reminder of who I am and how I got here.

A mentor

Some call it tough love or a ‘chalk it up to experience on the job training’, but real education is expensive. You can’t learn startup entrepreneurship and business growth and strategy until you are actually doing it. I again was fortunate and thankful although painful at times (arguing over invoices, time, billing, defending why systems are not functioning, etc. etc) to have had great mentor and business experiences that have allowed me to make more strategic and thoughtful decisions. Yes, I left a lot of money on the negotiation table, yes I have done projects that if you will, ‘have blow up on my face’. But, as I have learned to pace and listen actively I have become better about scoping out client needs for projects, my task requirements and client expectations are clearly identified. Boom! Success, achievement, but it’s not the holy grail and I learned to fish a little better. This process involved a small group of people, including clients, business mentors and associates. Together, they all got me there. Thank You.

A student

It is funny how we really learn a task, or about ourselves (communication, effectiveness, delivery, and personal engagement) by teaching. I think that is my best on the job training., explaining again and again the network settings, or how the configuration of a switch or firewall needs to be done. I do that exercise, the guiding and explaining and it allows me to do it again, the next time easier, clarity faster with more understanding of the task. So, as the students, bright-eyed and eager to hear the directive discourse, I am happy to burn these explanatory tasks, processes in learning and discovering, in someone's (student, client, associate and partner) brain and thankful everyday that they indirectly and solidly wind up in mine too.

It Begins with You

Bla, bla touchy feely stuff right. So where is the truth here, our drive, our learning. We make choices and decisions, that has cause and effect. I recently had a discussion about this and about how our inner cause and effect cannot really be applied to a set of rules and functions that we, as society, live in. We act and behave as we are our ‘relational framework’ but we cannot template these skewed, although positive, perspectives, that we live by as individuals over the larger rules and runnings of the world we live in. It is us, as a people, as individuals, as business,and that inner cause. Justification cannot be what is around us in the world. So, to a person, an individual, a business, our definition is us, but, it is not the word. It is our teaching and what we learn in us and in our world. Maybe I’m talking in circles here, and again we get so far and then there are times we need a nudge, an insight from someone else, not a finger wagged in one's face, rather an inner understanding, it takes a village.

When Fishing is Like Work

#radandy: The balance between work and play=plork..

It was placid water that day. My wife Cindy Mosedale and I on a paddle board adventure. It was not hard to agree. They say "a bad day of fishing is better that a good day at work". Truth. But even the good days at work still are like fishing for something.

We strive for excellence - push papers obsessed over Google Docs. Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks, Salesforce, bla bla - it goes on...

The perfect firewall configuration, hotel access points, no internet connection??

We need to take time and listen and be patient (wait for the strike, the bite) - during all these moments

Lets breath in the air above the water

Lets let the attendant at the register change the receipt paper roll- there is no rush

We rush the big ones to the boat only to have it fall off hook

We meet a deadline only find out the members involved are on vacation (disappointment of fishing for nothing)

But rather it is something as the water laps up against the board

So as we strive, seek, hunt, and look for elusive trout bass, pike, and perch. We do the same in the cracks and voids of work - startup momentum questing for success. I have said this before but it is just plain old survival trying to make a living. Is is great it is an adventure, scary at times, peaceful at times, it's life. I personally enjoy the variety of my day to day experiences at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. A recent tour and consultation at a bag manufacturing facility, the texts communications with the Creative Director at MIS Judi McCormick, communication with people at the co-working space, partner and client jibber jabber: camera installations, regarding next steps in #shredderbot and MISmakers. It is diverse ever changing environment, just as the water, weather, wind on the paddle board and casting a line. Fishing is like work.

I most regularly get a text from my dad every morning, it's a ‘good morning’ or ‘another beauty’ He shares a tribute to the rise of the sun, a new day. I cherish that. For me it fills the gaps at times when the variety and grind of work feels like a concrete block on my back. The funny thing is there are people, he is one of them who have these lofty insights that seem to strike a cord or hit that feeling people seem to wear on their overwhelming sleeve. When I/we receive these little insights it sets an inspirational landscape- and the water passes under the board, I cast on and on. These interactions with natural environment or specific people is a kinda wisdom, a sharing that allows one to rise and look hunt for fish, push a paddle board over the water, or just plain close a deal, get productive in the office.

Yea fishing is a lot like work. The ins and out the details of the client, the day to day, the office (if you will) mechanics and its machines in full production mode. So when you come up short with your creel empty, but you head and heart filled - its work, its better business really.

I find myself noticing a lot of designs these days, particularly relative to marketing. Design is everywhere, from the cereal box at breakfast to all the #rad pins on Pinterest. Think of frosted blended hues around the Lays logotype on the side of a chip delivery truck, or the homemade sandwich board on the sidewalk luring interest and audience to question.

I was not formally trained in design, but, I can tell you one thing, industrial arts and art classes in high school saved my ass. In these classes, I was able to work with my hands while I learned that I could inherently critically analyze form and function. I discovered a strong interest in how I wanted to express my ideas through the design or look of a piece. More important to me was, and continues to be, how to present my ideas in a way people would want to utilize them.

Within design there are many ways we can think about utility, form and function. How design appears and appeals to its audience is crucial, specifically in marketing and this brings in the artist's expression as well.

Some formally trained designers may consider me a ‘rock head’, since I hold a degree in hydrology, and have a background in geology as well as technology. Still, I am conscious of how things are presented, and thus, have an interest and tendency toward design. “Form follows function.” For me, all of these parts bounce around in my brain together, and, this is the observation gnawing at me lately...

Sign Makers Are Not Always Designers!

Recently, I was working with a client on digital presence, expression and message delivery across a variety of social media platforms. I was struck by a few examples where the client had posted, for marketing purposes, actual snapshots of the business signs indicating the business. It was like looking at a picture of a picture, or a page in a book, but you could not turn it to read onward to know more. It is my strong opinion that there is no sense in this approach. I would even say it is an actual waste of good creative processing time in taking pictures of signs.

Sign makers are master craftspeople, using technical tools and equipment to craft a tangible object that indicates or represents a place, person or thing. Designers use concept and skill to pull it all together, always with the message for an intended audience in mind.

In a digital space this is more and more of an artistic factor, an emulation of the message in color, or graphical layout. Here we leave the interpretation of imagery up to the audience to make reference to his or her own interpretation. These are thought out based on the time, place or business being represented. Anyone interested has the ability to put that all together in his or her own mind and make connections or take away a message.

John Dewey an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer;

Paul Rand, a prominent American Art Director and Graphic Designer.

Both of these men embodied expression and interpretation of thought by reading text and graphics. It is really up to the ‘end user’ to interpret. Both Dewey and Rand guided and conveyed ideas through text and icon/graphical symbols that hold true and live on today and Rand especially embodied the idea.

Dewey's Art as Experience, Rand elaborates on Dewey's appeal: “ [. . . Art as Experience] deals with everything — there is no subject he does not deal with. That is why it will take you one hundred years to read this book. Even today's philosophers talk about it[.] [E]very time you open this book you find good things. The Digital Message Hack and the Sign Arrow Indicator

I sit on couches, use tables and chairs, countless hand held objects and tools. These things have all been designed ergonomically. The design fits well with form, function and utility. Not all art and design is utility but is plain beautiful. However, for industry and functional uses, considerations of form and function are critical, as I mentioned. It is certainly not text saying this is a drill; hold here and squeeze trigger. If it works well, and is appealing, there is a balance of artistic expression and function. Some are more balanced to one side than the other depending on function. Nonetheless, if you can't get your hand around a drill handle even though it says drill, it may fail to appeal to the audiences in many ways. So, as we peruse the vast network on images that come across our digital screens, I say the signs we come across traversing real life are better in the context intended: hung out in the open air with an arrow of indication, location, or where, or who…

The message we get when we see a depiction of a brand or the mission of an organization, place or person is the true sign created and intended as Dewey would support for the reader or audience.

I just hiked a mountain- it’s the real stuff.

So slogging uphill. It’s a hike. Upper altitude - yes! Get high on achievement and mountains. But is the client interface, the banter between a warrantied wifi device and a the vendor. Yes your product does not work. I’m the messenger and my client who is uses your product needs to know it will work. Hey! This is Mosedale Integrated Solutions, we thoughtfully solved problems, fix shit and goddamn we try! Hmmm- it’s what we do. Sloging uphill is getting groceries, cleaning the kitchen, it is real stuff. We deal with it professionally and personally. Saturday house call, computer network visits, Sunday site visit internet checks boom! A philosophy: a template that holds true- the client. Follow up, invoice check, and fairness. #radandy is upfront authentic and we at MIS call a spade a spade. Fuck I’m blogging too. How 22nd century is that? Am I a retro progressive entrepreneur, hardly, just wake up do it again and again: life. I think we all can relate. Who hasn't bounced checks, miss communicated and forgot to follow through? Who hasn't misunderstood expectations and ended on the short list. Yet we are leaders in vulnerability and empowerment. So deep down I know all that crap will pay off. How long do you or can you wait?

It's all about investment, time money, training, travel, client proposals and engagement. I bet and hope I can retain the monetary loss. Even some of the monetary loss. I bet and hope that I don’t get cancer, or in a car wreck while texting. I just get up and do. My colleagues my business associates do too. At Mosedale integrated Solutions we learn to keep them close. So we wait, hopeful.

It Takes a village.

I recently cooked an omelet. What I usually do is grease the pan mix eggs heat pan drop mixture into egg and milk filling. Pull back sides let liquid fill sides to build solid supple form. It is ready to flip, but wait - broiler on, top brown filling contents, cast iron in oven. Boom. That’s a real omelet. Lucy Briggs taught me this. Always put omelet in oven for cooking. I learned that never blame a woman's mood on their period, my sisters friend and their after school sessions of General Hospital infuses that into me. It goes on - long and short when you become misguided in a small town more often than not a friend of a friend or neighbor assists in shedding some authoritative light and guidance. Boom, pay if forward look out for each other. Even us bloggers commenting and showing love- it takes a village. Yep. Right - O.

Creative economy = brutal economy

It was a great time, gas was cheap cars were metal and inefficient. And yes, wonder bread was a staple in every household. Men and some women went to work faithfully and had trust in not losing the earnings they made. Times have changed now, we've gone through cycles of shovel ready projects and disrupted Wall Street investments. Trust in the stability of employment is harder to come by. We spin off artistic endeavors. We find something we love and try to make a job out of it, but the strength and capacity of that 1950s employment model is hard to replicate, but required in today's creative economy. It's brutal.

Reflections - ick...

So I don't come home to a wife whose ironing, a dinner made, and a lawn that's perfectly manicured. I don't wake up to the comfort and care of a company, its insurance and 401K stability. So we get creative. We make our own comforts, our own dinners. We respect the people we live with and collaborate with and their efforts to do the same. I'm not saying there's no creativity in the corporate structure or the 1950s lifestyle. What I am saying is that the now ever changing economy forces us to be adaptable and creative. This is a benchmark at Mosedale Integrated Solutions.

Now, we have efficient cars. We eat whole grain bread. Yes, it's brutal, but the pride, passion and desire to be successful and excel in the economy holds true from the 1950s until now. Being creative is being thoughtful in relation to our day to day engagement with clients and people we interact with in general. The business model of the 1950s was always about people and taking care. That part continues to hold true in 2016. We've figured out a way to make that a priority by finding the capacity/stability of the 1950s. All of this applies to entrepreneurs and startups in today's day and age.

To each its end.

Lets celebrate diversity, people, compassion and the authentic self. Let raise a village from a child and do the hike. We owe it to ourselves and the important people around us. Fuck, they got us here, right, it takes a village. It takes being creative, with cutting losses. George Foss once said, ‘there is always another street car’. It's not named desire but it is a potential opportunity on the horizon, embrace the creative economy, reflect on the 1950’s and look out for each other.

Everyday isn't a Monday, It’s Hard to Do the Work

Monday again. I am back in the office. Lights are on. keys are stored away. Travel coffee mug companion is next to me. With a certain Monday-like hesitation, I sit.

My lists are many, but I have carefully put them to one side, Pandora is playing in the background. Oh, right—the lists. Hmmmm, which one first? Where have I agreed to go today? What does my schedule tell me to do? Even when the tasks are easy, it can be so hard to do the real work.

I (maybe you too) sit and stare at screens, get caught in internet distractions, delayed by phone calls, follow ups (insert another long list). Almost like the overwhelming blog. But the piercing details of arriving at the office desk, are, at times, truly painful reminders of the mundane, and non billable time as an individual sole proprietor. I constantly ask myself, ‘what client gets priority?; Who do I begin with?

What Do I Really Want to Do?

There is ping pong in the break room… Yea! Sure I love to play. Why do it if it’s is not fun? I get pulled in so many directions, with the best intentions for each request. But there are days when I just want to do what I choose. The million dollar question: how do I make doing what I want to do into a profitable business including strategy, personal, and professional satisfaction? Back to work… I'll kill a few things on the list.” A regular: comb through, and clean up my email. This is almost guaranteed to jar loose some more tasks, projects, bills, (insert another long list) for the pile of unknown and unexpected which gets washed into the bliss of the age of communication. But shit, there is ping pong in the break room! Who is in? Rat a tat tat. The white ball resonates on the table and wall. As there are always many balls in the air for my team we all know what rings true for us. I am, and we all will always be bouncing a variety of balls. The important part is the rebound of reactions to achieving goals that make them easy for me to cross items off list- kill. Incentives are good, and after all, I love ping pong in the office.

How To Play Ping Pong AND Focus

I’m not just talking about what is nearsighted and close by, rather a common mission to do the next best thing. And in my case–the business and entrepreneurial model–t is about chasing the dollars. The task itself truly is not gratifying. On top of that, it is awfully bad for focus, in my opinion. This philosophy that takes away from what is apparently in front of us and who we are. If we actually tease out the real goal (aside from money), the planned communication of future technology projects with partners and collaborations that enables efficient and solid success. We will go after that, then the money follows the work with authenticity. Eye on the ball, soft touch rebounds easily; hard smash takes laser reaction and decisiveness. But the outcome of the continued volley (chasing the dollar sign) yields the same result.

How I Make the ‘Hard’ ‘Easy’?

If I only knew the magic shortcut! It’s a dance really. A smile after a good client engagement, a firm handshake representing my dedication. The thought of not only reflecting what you say with your body is standard operating procedure at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. Language is not just voice or sound or diction. It is movement and flow. It is just as much active listening, and eye contact.Recently, I attend a technology meet up with liked minded individuals. The group had a diversity of backgrounds and interests.

I flashed back to my sand box with Kelly Pinkerton. Parallel play translated into major production of roads rivers, and bridges all of the tonka truck city... I refocus, and chime in on the meeting tech speak of assembly language and remember the white ball bounces and keeps its momentum whether it be a soft subtle stroke, or a slammed top spin curve. The hard shots do become easier as does the momentary gaze of the initial office entry and computer screen glare.

I love this bumper sticker, “Earth first we’ll log the other planets later.” It makes me laugh. But really it’s a lofty suggestion, thinking big, dreaming. At Mosedale Integrated Solutions we set forth goals by way of small lists on yellow paper, or executing major projects in full swing putting in antennas on a wall while on ladder. It is boom! We get through our lists, our projects on earth. Then as I have suggested to many of my clients, at the end of a job, next for MIS, we will go to Mars and do it there. It’s a balance between decisive execution and being authoritative rather than arrogance that makes that makes the hard easy. No matter what the task, ping pong ball rebound, or overwhelming stare at the screen and/or list –we keep looking forward and upward.

Money Can Not Match the Value of True Friendship

Take calling your friend on his or her birthday, for example. I must confess I get help from Facebook to keep up. In my profession (which I swear to now call productivity), technology can be useful in that it reminds us of our friends’ birthdays. Unless falsified by the user, it is an accurate and handy little tool to have in our day to day balancing act. Maybe it's a post on a timeline or a thumbs up.

I particularly enjoy calling my close friends directly. At least once a year, I call Brooks Barber, a long-time childhood friend who has saved my ass more than once. I have had his back on just as many occasions. He always calls me too. He does not do the Facebook cheat I do. But rather my birthday every three years falls on Thanksgiving Day, so he has another calendar reminder. Hey, whatever works for us to thoughtfully follow up and reach out to our brotherly and sisterly brood. With the voice call, hearing is believing. It’s great when there is someone on the other end. ‘Brooks how is Cora...and the girls? Shreddebot? She’s getting close. Hey, remember screaming Eagles--when Daniel Sigman took that jump?’, I go on… I don't tend to live in the past, although reminiscing in conversation actually vocalized once in awhile sure can wipe out my grumpy attitude. It brings back my mindset in a light I like. It's me. Yes, the usual radandy undertone. I'm a sucker for conversation. I love auditory feedback; heck it’s dance away into the speakers. ‘Ok talk soon. Come up let's golf Brooksie’...

In Person?

Even better than phone is a walk with a friend. As with so many things, external environments are influential on mood, feelings and how we react and adapt. Recently I snuck in a round of golf with a close friend Michael Bush, a loyal and respected client. We hugged, put our shoes on, and chatted with club pro, and finally embarked on our mission. I know there are many parallels to golf as there are life to business relationships and sales. I could go on, but I won't. Ahhh!... the frustration at the 6th hole bunker, or that missed putt on the third related to loss of margins. Or, that missed opportunity to acquiesce a new client. Oh well; there are nine more holes. Really, in my book, there is no competition between money and friends. It is not about the analogy of these dynamics of the game and our work life/people/place/situations. One of the greatest values is just being with a friend; a pause in nature. The discussion of parenting, client engagement and mark up pricing. The taste of cold mountain water from an igloo cooler. A friend’s birthday is a hell of a reminder that there is infinite value to friendship.

If that’s so, then show me one who isn’t?

You know when you hear that from someone you wonder what is the foundation of this judgement, maybe even the motive? Is it some kind of patronizing comment, or a genuine compliment? WTF? Often I’m left wondering any number of things: tell me something I don’t know. Or, is there something I missed about this character? Do folks just use this expression because they feel badly that the individual is really an asshole, a real buffoon?

Been there, done that.

I've been a Buffoon; I know it. I've also been told I'm a “good guy”. I wonder what shortcomings must I make up for in order to be classified as a “good guy”? More than likely there are times in which I am not such a “good guy”. To my surprise, suddenly reports prove that, in fact, I am a “good guy”. Fuck ‘em. Judging one’s character based solely on first impression is not always accurate. Still, judgemental, intolerant, narrow minded thinkers can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Who cares about the “good guy”?

I am, and have been by business associates, friends, peers, classified as a “good guy”. Sure, it is flattering. But, no matter if I were good or off my game I know who I am and don’t need to be reminded. Let the talking heads keep their vocal vetting commentary to themselves; assholes. Whoops, I am being one myself. There you have it; good guy gone. A relapse. Please…take your judgement and fuck off.

But really the long and short of it is we are all good but at times, and we all have buttons that can be pushed enough to change our behavior. It happens in our networking too. Is he or she vetted? It seems as though he or she is good, but worth the risk? But let's not go by the word on the street. Instead go directly to the word of the individual. Actions and execution speak volumes. This I do everyday. So thoughts and judgements get passed around but we are the keeper of guise or disguise (to be seen as good or not). It is representation. My team and I at Mosedale Integrated Solutions strive to represent as “good guys” as much as genuinely as possible.

If you represent you don't have to live up to the broadcast

At times, it can be easy for any of us to beat ourselves up. We think one thing Is not right or one thing we are not good at etc., etc. This can damage the ‘good guy’ image. But really? It can build up and shadow our true selves. It can mask the goodness. Who is that good guy? How did we get classified this way? Again were we bad or no good at one time? Well yea, except when things aren’t going his way or he gets insulted or put down. It can emulate ‘asshole’ activity. Argggg. But chasing it up to retain and interface - I exercise the Ghandi model, peaceful interpretation of my surroundings.

Recently my son was upset about some complicated frustrating bicycle mechanics he was trying to work through. The stand fell, he mumbled, “I’m not a good mechanic”...and more... It was loud and frankly not good. Regardless, he is, in fact, a good guy. I don't have to remind him of this I know. He doesn't want to hear it either. My suggestion was to say, ‘Hey Ethan, the stand fell crash boom, look at it like a joke.’ Jeez what more could happen? Hey son it's just a crash boom bam. Ha Ha, crash boom bam, a dramatic part of a crazy escapade that is beyond your control. Kinda funny, eh? Dude just giggle, and remember it could be worse. Shrug and laugh it off. Set up the bike stand. Make a funny theater piece out of it and channel that anger energy into a humorous reflection. This is the Gandhi piece; the introspective of looking at things beyond your control and dealing with them.

As I finish thoughts on “good guys”, I know what or whomever says I am a good guy is beyond my control. My actions may or may not be related. Business performance and character pervade. Let naysayers go ahead and tease, complain, critique, I am who I am. I am proud, happy and lucky everyday. My true friends and family don’t ever compartmentalize me or my business as good, evil or indifferent - they just know. Those are the people to keep close.

How we kill the swirl of overwhelmingness

We all go through the motions: shower, work, good morning co-workers, tick-tick tasks, drive, steer; too quickly the day is done. Even a day that seems to go by slowly is too fast, with another on its heels! Cleaned, list-relist: get groceries: scrub-scrub: laundry: cheer-cheer: kids: grind-grind: sports: oh! more drive-drive: accelerate… Now in the 21st century journey we aimlessly abide. The work-family-career cycle can seem endless and unclear while are immersed in it. The truth is that it is not never ending. At times it may be frustrating, but it is also important to reflect on the greatness of this type of overwhelming chaotic existence as great fortune.
But we typically don’t see the great fortune through the thick of it. Only when I can look back into the loop, do I see the reflection that leads to the an understanding of the beauty of simplicity.
Yes, for Mosedale Integrated Solutions (MIS), taking a step back, thinking about any given situation, enjoying a cup of coffee in an effort to redirect from the hard problems with a brief chat, or perhaps a distraction in Mother Nature can lead us or our team to approach an issue from a clearer angle and find a solution. This does not always work. We can bang our heads against the wall, that’s overwhelming, so we enter the cycle again, try again, only to find the redirect option, and use it to pull out of confusion and begin anew with a fresh perspective to solve or minimize the pain of the problem.

Pulling it all apart

I am in the computer Internet Technology business. I work with systems and machines. These objects do not redirect, they do not look at the gray escape areas that lend us insight to the subtleties of a problem overlooked. They are ‘on or off’.
I reason, so by nature, on occasion, I enter the grey area of distraction (cloud gaze, coffee stop). Recalibrating is the explanation of how and why I can successfully kill the binary outcome I want. Recently I made a presentation (a career explaination) to a group of 10th graders at a local high school. I understood that too much technology jargon could very easily be overwhelming, and information they did not need or even want to hear. Knowing this, I looked at it as a good exercise for me to sugar off an explanation and simplify the binary intricacies of my work in Internet Technology. I noticed these young adults were savvy, and aware, but also caught into the swirls of social, and cultural throws. How do I know? 1. I’ve been there; 2. My experience indicates it as an adult who’s experiences have built a certain character of understanding. What is the confused, giddy, sophomore’s redirect, for their overwhelming swirl? A digital escape? No, that is where they exist regularly. How about, sports, or family? Yes, a valid explanation. But let’s remember that growing young adults, however we treat them (mature or like a kid) are not in full rapid physical and emotion change. We think we have it bad when delayed on the way to take the kids to hockey, or that one work task that keeps morphing and changing as you try to complete it. Heck, these 10th graders see delays, disruptions, and change as if through a microscope, and on a minute-by-minute basis. Remember, though, they are our future workforce our future leaders. Go get ’em young adults!

I guess, at the end of the day, who cares about the small stuff: the work cycle, the day-to-day chores; it’s all good, it’s all there. Fuck it. I’m not trying to be selfish but the attitude I adopt is to ball it all up (the overwhelmingness, the ferris wheel detail cycle that seems to pull us in all directions). I cock my head and neck and redirect, diffuse and blurr, and peel the overwhelming issues apart. However big, the bottom line is to arrange issues in a easy fashion and knock them down, one at a time. If that does not work, grab a coffee, look at the clouds, or ceiling tile for a bit (clouds are recommended), find a friend and reach out. After a little break, dive back into fold to kill the overwhelming feelings.
Recently in a busy overwhelming state, I noticed that the friend’s outreach was key for me to move to success, and beyond productivity blocks. A great share and reflection recently by Jon Westenberg in Medium made me say out loud ‘Yes, Yes’, we ride in these cycles and Jon explains that so does everyone else in his piece, Last night, I panicked. I was scared I’d been wrong. This speaks to the entrepreneurs aloneness, the sacred expectations of failure, the unknown unseen outcomes of goals never met. He, shares, reflects, and I realize there are a lot of us in the same area. Along the same thread in my distracted reading and communication cycle I reached out to a good friend. He told me we were “on the same raft”. This was the undertone analogy of Westernberg’s blog piece. It is always great to connect with my good friend, Ross Thurber. We have a friendship that is defiance by going years without ever talking and suddenly if we were to reconnect it would be like no time had gone by. That is usually not the case but our understanding and relationship is strong and I’m proud of that. So reflection, redirect, the distraction for the overwhelming cycle brings reconnection and current work and personal connections and the celebration of sharing similarities.

This is what makes me, the human, Andy Mosedale, keep going. It makes Ross Thurber, and even the young wide sophomores keep going, human. all others we work with daily and cycle in and out of the fold of overwhelmingness with. So a smile and visual gazed into the clouds, even a thoughtful poem, is enough to rekindle a fire that keeps us burning through the cycle as best we can and knocking them all down. I thank all i’m involved with every day, I look at the reasons to keep going: my wife, and two teenagers reflect on the challenges and use all and any means to stay in the loop as I define it, not as it defines me. On that note I want to share with you a poem by Ross Thurber, farmer, friend, brother, the natural flesh of me that make us both who we are.

Organization is it the key to easy living? Hmmmm.

Real life is ever changing; you’re not in charge.

Do you run a business, sit at a desk or let's say a work space? Heck, maybe even one of those adjustable ergonomic dealies where you stand/sit. Please. Seriously, while the advent of files folders, organization from a-z are apparent. We stash; we store. I have just finished sifting through piles of notes, sheets, post its, backs of envelopes, you name it. My jottings everywhere. Of course there is also printed copy and information organized by topic or date. It’s all scattered around my work space, and in hanging file folders, in the tidy racks.

So... do I sort standing or sitting the ergonomic effect of the office? Boo hoo. Fuck that shit! The logic here is that the overwhelming notes pieces of paper , archived files and folders finally runneth over, and had to be dealt with. To my shagrin being organized is not beneficial but brings a flood of production-killing relic memories and topics. This kicks up memories and kicks down doors. It fuels a current entrepreneurial strategy that was so out of sight when we began stashing well-thought items for recall later. Oh shit!

So it is a mess; an index of unnecessary dust driven order, I admit as some of this material is sifted, things discovered, I ponder in frustration ‘I missed that follow up’ or ‘shit, what a great idea! I could have used that last week. Whoops. I’m so glad it was sitting in a dusty box archived for over 6 years. Jeeze. Yes I lavish in the decision to trash ¾ of materials from years ago. I find organized indexing and reference recall a busy exercise that gives us a false sense of our data management. Really the data now is chockablock full in our heads. It is refined, recounted. and resurrected in digital space. We scan feeds, pull information as we weed. It is easier than pouring through some dusty file folder. But that press board staples cabinet–oh yeah! Too bad, the archived file folders have some juicy tidbits and shake loose to reveal things that can now be explained by our strategy in digital mining and archival. Yes, I know big scary words but it is our future reality. The exercise of organization is freedom and superficial - it releases old relics: photographs, snapshots, old copy, designs and an obsolete 6-year old discovery. It includes the artwork that creative, warm and fuzzy feelings we long for. Although we get g from our archives really, organized clutter breeds complacency. Let's just write on all paper, blast and pile content, get things done. Ugh. OK, sure.

Getting our act together, organizing, sucks. Honestly I never have to or want to. Really...do you?. So fuck it. The process in which we process real time data opens our reflective self. It moves from paper content to digital spaces where resources and information we recall are easy and matter. The tenderness and positive interaction of our real and strong important items are held in high regard. Our archives as we catalog our meaningful things so to speak are just that- meaningful we just forget later. The pressure to “get organized” is not going away even though we all trash with embrace dusty files and folders. We grin at outdated copy that contain no current or relevance to our business endeavors now. But at one time we did covet it, we stored it.

Organizing, or getting your act together is not straightening items. It is smiling at the re-visitation of sound logic and applying that to a current business strategy and growth strategy in any way possible. Yes. My act is together; I’m organized– in the midst of chaos and confusion and disorder. And you?

First Impression Are Bullshit if You Don’t Present Your True Self

Clothing is architecture. To know a person, get his or her story.

Today a traditionally-trained machinist reminded of what matters in a first impression.. It got me thinking about who decides just what and how defines first impression, more specifically a good one. How important is a designer suit? How does that suit differ from the hoodie worn by, say, a millennial startup founder, or a woman in a power suite with exacting accessories and Jimmy Choos. Whatever the fashion choice, judging a person solely by outfitting is bullshit.

Your story tells; your story sells.

The proof of a person’s skill, qualifications, experience, fit for the position, project, etc., is found by paying attention to all of those things to get to the heart of his or her story. The story sells. Your first impression is sharing your story. In other words, your values, your journey, your aspirations, your skills, what you have learned the hard way.... We live in a society that does focus on looks, appearance, and style. These things can always be altered or changed completely to ensure appropriateness in all different situations. However, no matter the presentation, interview, cocktail party, the true story, the heritage (Our historical legacy that give us uniqueness from past experiences) is what make our perceived first impression for each of us. That importance of your impression is the story that shines through.
#Shredderbot has changed, but it’s first appearance is its story/journey. As we process the prototype from a wood belt driven shabby rickety box proof of concept, to a machined aluminum adjustable frame work, adding safety features to finally arrive at a reliable professionally engineered model in production as I type! Although I suppose it is possible to build something right the first time, it certainly can be that rapid discovery of failure proves how not do it again. Failures often lead to improvements by the device.

#Shredderbot’s Story

Simple: I hate bulky trash containers that fill up quickly. I felt a burning urge to manage voluminous bottles and containers. Combined with my concern for our environment, I was inspired to invent and innovative kind of shredder. Shredderbot was designed to reduce volume and create a feed stock plastic commodity. Everyone is happy: consumers, (using shredders for various purposes), transfer station municipalities will reduced traffic and recycled waste load, in turn reducing tipping fees and transport costs. One other aspect is the diversion of this waste from landfills into other recycled and up-cycled sectors. Win Win.

I write, I learn.

I’m now thinking about fashion and shopping. a designer suit, but have not ordered it. The quality, the feel, the weight, the flow of the fabric, but the suit only dresses story. As we move along in the process, like #Shredderbot has gone through changes through discovery the prototyping process. I can relate. Changing daily from one outfit to another, depending on the situation, I realize that my exterior is part of my impression, but it is my story that I want to impress upon others. #Shredderbot will still grind plastic, but a lot differently than when it was first hatched at #MISmakers 2 years ago. The beauty is in the process. I prefer most times to wear a hoodie. But I still appreciate a J Hilburn suit. I admit I love my “branded” work clothes. They do make a statement about me, sure., The point is that it’s bullshit that materials, embellishments, are what make your first impression. it is a process, a story, that makes the true impression. I am lucky to hear many tales everyday, and the impressions I get from a variety of people are based on the stories of those people. As #radandy, a human being, those stories make a cherishable impression.

One thing I know: It’s Not Easy Being Green

In the spirit of Earth Day, I’m feeling green in many ways. Blogging is relatively new to me, but I am proud to punch the 15th notch into my blogger belt. Among many things, I am the inventor of #Shredderbot, (the future of recycling), a small business owner, technology expert, and a hydrologist. I was born in New Hampshire, currently live in Vermont, and work in both states.

To get my feet wet, I began to share thoughts and lessons learned relative to business strategy, dynamics of personal interactions, growth and development, and the process of day to day operations, particularly for start-up and entrepreneurial businesses. Until my ‘15th notch’, I have felt pretty green as a blogger. I am continuously humbled by the quality of depth and insight of bloggers that I follow regularly. When the idea was first suggested to me, I was hesitant and felt awkward referring to myself as a blogger. But I am starting to look forward to it, as reflecting is learning, all leading to fuel.

Notch 15: The Turning Point

Genuine growth and expertise come from a strong and compelling drive, just like determination come from inescapable passion and pride residing in the gut.

Thomas A. Edison, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci, are a few examples of brilliant and prolific inventors and innovators. All shared these traits. And each had his own challenges and/or share of failures . Yes we revealed them as greater the light bulb, mapping celestial bodies, and electrical experimentation, but what made them tick?

The Power of Unification

Recently I had the opportunity to have a look into a fellow business collaborator’s world. The overlaps and similarities of business process and innovations were striking. Agreeing on how to use our associated skills and resources propels the team forward. From planning a venue demonstration to strategizing next ecommerce market or client follow-up and initiation. It takes people together, it takes individuals with traits found in Edison, DaVinci, and Tesla. Not only for business growth and success but for our own personal momentum. A unified front is a force moving forward. Today at Mosedale Integrated Solutions we planned for a demonstration and collaborative action to up cycle paper and plastic waste in the maple syrup and retail shipping/receiving industries. We introduce our best product, #Shredderbot its outstanding performance and how as a collaborative unified team covering all aspects of this device. Shredderbot will quickly become an instrumental piece in the industrial packaging and manufacturing process. It shows proof that unified efforts make one great thing. The pride and positivity of a well functioning machine goes beyond the object device gadget, and extends into the team and all individuals involved.

Summary for (un)satiation

It is part of being human to want more are constantly need to make improvements. My #shredderbot prototype has evolved through many versions and iterations. Frankly it will probably never be perfect. I dream of being fully satisfied with it. It serves a great function. My attitude of insatiable perfection helps make the device better each time I return to the drawing board. Striving to perfect a piece of machinery from concept to market transfers to interactions with others, allowing for high expectations, and high quality of craft. It is simple, start with a sketch, build it with passion, work through flaws in a determined fashion, celebrate your grit that got you where you needed to be.

To conclude, we are complicated beings, we interact with both inanimate and animate objects. Some things are easy to understand. In machines it is mechanically obvious. They are defined by design and basically physical rules and laws. Interpreting what makes individuals tick looks at the passion and drive, the DNA make up defines ones inner ticking and is difficult to understand. We can base it on behavior and actions, but those too cannot be attributed to really what makes one tick. I don’t think it can be explained by or really understood from an outside observer, or business collaborator, and/or friend. The grit determination lies within, it is inherent to the individual, and the transition from green blogger to an experienced one is one way in understanding this ticking and realizing that there are layers of these process and plans inside oneself. From a prototype invention, a writing creation to painting we throw down it is expression like this in all forms makes us tick.

One Foot in Front of the Other: Challenges and rewards of ‘Providing Clarity when Technology is Confusing’

“Shattered Glass”Mosedale Integrated Solutions takes a page of innovation from the book of relational framework behind local school theater arts.

A look into the world of theater was a highlight of my week. The Barnet School the amazing vision and dedication of the art and science integration unit collaborated to perform a theatrical production of Innovate. The goal was to use drama as an avenue for expression, gain knowledge in the content area, and last, but certainly not least, to have a good time, and to share that spirit. I couldn’t be more proud to support the role that my wife, Cindy H. Mosedale, a veteran middle school teacher, took on in this project. Cindy has the ability to masterfully synthesize so many moving pieces. She is also a natural when there is a need to extinguish a “fire” (which in not infrequent in this fantastic, but complicated endeavor.)rad woman, in good company, working in our local school system. In collaboration with the Community Engagement Lab, (Paul Gambill) and the Flynn Center Theater Artist in Residence, Director and Producer, Theater Teacher, Acting Coach (Susan Palmer: enter rad woman #2), this was a fun great exercise.

Student-focused, the team sought to make learning flexible, and differentiated, as they are continually working on improving methods. A life skill traits we emulate in our work at Mosedale Integrated Solutions (MIS). A road warrior, traveling in the MISmobile, I am happiest in hot pursuit of trouble-shooting, solving technical questions, problems, issues, setting up systems, managing and educating clients about appropriate and updated hardware and software. I too learned flexibility and how to shake off inevitable frustrations inherent in the job.
Let me explain, as a request in-between travels made in conveniently fetch some stage boxes (object used on stage to elevate actors). Yes, another thing term like tableau I learned being partially immersed in this project of theater arts and the gizmo gadgets and actions they use in it. It is a like looking through an intricate stained-glass window on to something new that allowed me to embrace an unknown. Once again, I found myself understanding that which helps me in my day-to-day operations in my travels, I set out to get these large boxes for the stage and delivered them to the troop at the school.

Fast-forward…

The play went off very well. The support and action were superb as well as the execution and coordination. women unite, and strike again. (Enter Beverly McCarthy, Art teacher/innovator/set designer/build synthesizer!boom!) Wow, did her skill, talent, and passion show right through. The students shined as did anyone and everyone involved. The audience? Delighted. Enter Shattered Glass: I slammed the hatch of the car and shattered my back window on the protruding corners of the stage boxes – oh well, innovate, improve, flex, move on. Boom!!!

Perhaps through osmosis, I felt as though I shone, just as the young actors did. I shone, attending the play, working behind the scenes in theater arts, and rewarded with all the dynamics that rubbed off on me. Yes, a gaping hole in the MISmobile did sting for a time, but at the moment my theater flexibility, interpretation, and relational framework taught me just how unimportant it was, as well as how to shake it off because, after all,the show must go on! I packed and shipped on a windy ride. The boxes were delivered, I coordinated a glass replacement. One foot in front of the other, I love the theater.

As the drama unfolds, my rear window is smashed, and a call to the insurance bodes well. The call to local glass repair shop went even better. We won’t go into the ‘local’ term but you can imagine how one takes care of 'locals'. The local businesses I encountered are built on a strong foundation of service the customer,. As I begin these conversations I enter their service model – well done from all aspects. I received quality, timely and effective service from the window replacement, insurance company, contracting glass company. There was no acting here. It was the real deal.mage has been repaired. there is still time to hit the cast party! This is what we do at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. There are technology changes behind every door. Around every corner there can be surprises. These are project and process issues. However it is the people (the clients, the customers, etc.) that matter. They require a service. Our communication model at MIS is simply based on action and communicating with common language in an effort to relate efficiently. We make an effort to refrain from “tech-talk”, which we find some clients can be intimidated and/or confused by. Service is understanding and respecting each relationship. When working with small businesses and individuals, as a service provider in technology these corners and doors are likened to expectations and client goals. We look under every rock, we work to understand every goal/objective unique to each client. Quite simply, we pride ourselves on providing a superior quality service.

There are times that the expected task and the realized task end up to be two different things. We can take longer on one task project but be rapid on another. Time management is a crucial component to the success of client satisfaction for MIS. We balance and manage time to meet our customers’ needs. If there are times when it is off the clock, (unpaid) we take this risk knowing that a gain in solid representation of quality work, responsiveness, honor and diligence in getting job done is a character that will only lead to more opportunities and positive relationships as well as personal pride. We are aware that we portray is what the client sees, and what we give to them is what we get back. To clarify, working for free is not a proper business model, but interpreting the risk reward actions to gain opportunities is invaluable to business growth as well as building a worthy client base. Fair is fair. Cost , payment and growth can all be attributed to that.

Remove The Fog: the secret to making a prediction almost as well as your crystal ball.

It is clarity which we seek. Youth actors try to understand their part, their lines. MIS and their clients need a mutual understanding on time, scope of work, and budget. These things don’t just happen. By looking ahead we gather information. We pull in leaders and experts to help along the way. A new direction, an expert opinion, all make things go forward so the show opens as planned, the client gets a new system installed as expected. We balance knowing facts and actions with flexibility of interpretation (actors) and time for the experts. Let’s embrace the freedom of latitude in this. As we expand in those boundaries we build trust. We generate other opportunities and...BRAVO! ENCORE!!

The Getaway Car: Not Just for Bank Robbing Anymore

This week the “MISmobile” rolled to a refreshing adventure to reflect and recharge

Yep, driving to a new place, even down the road, can help clarify so many things.

My wife, my collegue, Mosedale Integrated Solutions Continuity Director, Cindy Mosedale, and I made a conscious plan to unplug and remove ourselves from our day to day routines. Driving over the mountain and through the woods to our destination may seem mild to a travel blogger, but proved incredibly powerful for us.

We are, as I imagine many of you are, on life’s treadmill. It never seems to stop, and at times the incline gets quite steep. We are grateful to be blessed with busy and active children, family, friends, and community. Although fortunate to have such full lives, it was clear that we needed to break from routine and get an outside view of what seems to fly across a screen.

Boom! Cindy and I squared away the kids, jumped in the “getaway car”, and drove to a nearby Vermont Inn for an overnight adventure! Although close by and convenient, it still provided an opportunity for a positive shift from the day to day. #radandy’s motto: ‘everyday is a vacation day’ is used with tongue in cheek, but this was different. It was refresh/recharge at it highest level.

Enjoy The Ride

Strapped into our tin can, radio playing, four wheels turning, no work, none of the ordinary distractions we’ve become so accustomed to, we wondered at first. Hmmm… lets talk about bills, the kids, projects at the house...NOT!!!

“You, you over there, I remember you!”, we thought, in our own ways. And very quickly it was, wow, we are really going! We shared ideas in fun. What will we do with this magical time? What will we eat? The spirit of the ride flooded in and the getaway to refresh and renew had begun! Some may think: aww like a date back in highschool. But, not really. We’ve grown and things are different. We are still responsible by the oscillation and obligations of life that constantly adjust our dreams. But change forces growth and discovery. Compromise is par for the course of life. Luckily, even a short getaway allowed us to forget all that. We could breathe fresh air and wisdom into the moment, and make a high school date look like old hat. We could make new dreams together, of what and how we wanted for each of us as individuals, as well as together. The realization is the recharge we quest, that is the know of the person by my side, my partner in crime. It was a much needed check-in, and it unfolded in the form of a 4-wheel journey: “the getaway”.

Eat and Sleep

It is hard to accept the standard public perception of being ‘in’. It is hard to know what that is. Luckily, in my #radandy persona, I don’t even think about it. My insides tell me who and what I am. Heck I have fun picking up on the attitude and self awareness of others. So really, any room, place or environment I pervade #radandy. Why? How? Remember my motto: ‘every day is a vacation day’, ‘relax even when nervous’, ‘smile even when a bit sad’, and ‘move with assertive direction as two cats playing in the jungle’. Whether you get someone's attention, you at your table, with a new-found friend and companion, remember who you are. Across the table sits the getaway partner. Although planned, we feel and see our out of box, out of place trip/getaway from the home routine seem to provide individuality, and purpose. All things we need when back in the daily tunnel. So this is great, dinner. We are out in a new place, away from the sink and the stove. A pleasant waitress serves foods cooked by someone else. And, there we are in the mid stride of our getaway!

The People and Journey Along the Way and Back to Normalcy

Just as in work, there are people we find unpleasant in other environments. The getaway encourages us to interact and explore these places and the people in it without the standard stress and pressure we carry and/or bury. We celebrate and experience a unique conversation and meeting with our Innkeeper, and a passerby on a trail. It is our collective stories that make the journey. The getaways fortifies who we are and strengthens us to return back to what we call the normalcy of the day. The conversations we have in getaway mode are not water cooler talk, or the mandated conversion of scheduling our day(s), They consist more of insights we learn by meeting someone along the way, a discussion over dinner in a time place outside the own digs of our regular circles.

I appreciate the greatness of how we live day to day, but just touching on the power of a change in placement and perspective. By no means do I think it is standard for co-workers or clients, etc. to be anti-social, nor our personal lives family cause us to be introverted. Simply that a small change can ignite a large inspiration. It can be noted that the outside impulsively planned getaways lead to the avant garde feelings and an eccentric interaction or two. There is surely refreshment and recharging expected in a getaway adventure of any sort. To box this up: a getaway recharges one perspective from the mundane, this get folded into the day to day when we find it hard to remove ourselves from it. People all along our journeys are instrumental in adding a new perspective. The mundane rolls off, differences are seen in the simplicity of routine. The getaway travel outside the box perspective adds fuel to us inside. These breaks help allow us to navigate our true motion, motives and goals in life. As we run on the treadmill, look over our shoulder clasp hands with our partners, and know the getaway is the innerway for everyone to go about the day to day as if it is a vacation day. Hey, take it!

Response Time: One way to effectively and efficiently reach a resolution

Response time is distinctly different from reaction time. Response time hinges on thoughtfulness and planning. A response can happen quickly, but often requires setting goals, and defining measurable success, among other details. Consider the following relative to response time:

1. What am I currently doing?

2. How mission critical is it?

3. What goals are in mind for individual and or business, organization, etc. to achieve?

Some examples: monetary gain, piece of mind knowing the client/customer, etc. is satisfied and continues to do business with you, and/or make a recommendation for you, and even building a good reputation in general.

All of these have value and worth, but redirecting focus from one to another does not always make it better for you or your business. The disruption domino effect caused is not worth the consequences of a ‘knee jerk’ reaction. Others you are involved with at the time conflict arises are all connected in some way. Take appropriate action in planning response and obtaining the request goal you are asked of. This reaction, a more reflex response, is often blended with the original thoughtful response and planning. It is then executed to meet end goals for everyone involved. This combination of planning, awareness, and flexibility minimizes stress, anxiety, misunderstanding, and downtime. In simple form: react, respond, and recover.

Every Step is Money

If you observe a laborer on any job site, it is likely that you will find efficient use of each worker’s movement through space. I recall my time working in construction. The importance of material placement is crucial. In roofing, whenever possible, shingles were place on roof by delivery, which saves hours of arduously climbing ladders. Sheathing and plywood are also good examples within the industry. Framing lumber and sheet goods, closely and safely accessible to cutting area, the building’s foundation, and wall building areas. Other examples where carefully considered precision movement and juxtaposition of people, tools, structures, improve efficiency and safety.

The Value of Discovering What You Didn’t Know

Guess what? You will find character, pride, power, and honor. I have been asked questions regarding a multitude of the ever-changing issues in the technology field. A major challenge is to speak to topics, methods, equipment and process in a way that is understandable, digestible, and even sometimes educational for clients, partners, collaborators who may not be inclined to the intricacies of technology. When asked details or deeply-layered specifics, research may be required before an appropriate solution can be presented and executed. The inability to rattle off every answer to every scenario may appear to be a vulnerability that weakens professional credibility. I would argue it is not a vulnerability, instead quite the contrary, a valuable asset. Understanding and admitting the unknown is a portrayal of honorable truth. Anyone receiving the information on the other end will respect that. The question goes unanswered but it is always better than a bluff.

Bluffs Don’t Pay

More often than not in a client relationship involving a time-sensitive project a bluff gets exposed and explodes with the recourse in the explanation damaging to character. It is much harder to recover from a faulty bluff than admitting what you don’t know up front. We all want to present ourselves as confident experts. Even if it feels counter intuitive it is actually more beneficial to admit that although you don’t know the answer, it is your expertise to find the solution.

Act and emulate the character of quality by portraying, with patience, persistence and diligence that you have the expertise to find the answers to the tough questions.

The Eager Want

You got to wake up to it everyday. I was told this from a research scientist (my supervisor at a climate change research laboratory) many years ago. It was in regards to a PhD candidate thesis program, years of scientific work, research classes, paper writing of peer reviewed articles, oral examines, dedication to a subject and passion for understating a specific topic. It all culminates to the final thesis. It is a long journey, and during that time ‘you got to wake up to it everyday’. Incentive is good, it allows for some sense of worth and pride knowing that what you are immersed in and engulfed in has some value. But really it is you that needs to know the value.

How does one arrive or achieve an eager want? How does it relate to an individual doing their thesis, their job, and their day-to-day operations? Of course the external factors of money, recognition and status help, but the eager want comes from inter recognition and drive and true belief in what you are doing. Also, in believing in the people around you and supporting their needs, wants and goals. It is the action of reminding each other that yeah, ‘it may suck now’, but let’s look at it from a 1000-mile view. In other words, look at how and what the dedicated passion, drive, and determination of pursuing a job, a thesis defense, and task that gets us beyond, give us the eager want. We can arrive at a place we have dreamed about.

The eager want is a check-in, a positive follow-up by management, its a pat on the back from the boss, the inclusion in a PhD science meeting as a subordinate research technician, knowing that your input matters as well. The eager want is what an individual strives for. But, it is instilled by external interactions and processed internally by these drivers. We see evidence of high performance efficiency and goals achieved when good mangers, collaborators and colleagues are combined in a team with the philosophical outlook of instilling an eager want.

The "must go" soup recipe:

1. Be willing to respond, and react with thoughtfulness, eager to do so with the understanding your customer is depending on, and paying you!

2. Know when and how to react in an efficient and effective way, eager to bring knowledge to the table. Be honorable enough to preserve, if not strengthen your reputation and credibility by admitting you don’t have all the answers every time;

3. Recognize that the details relate to efficiency and execute as an archer.

These are one of many ways we roll at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. Although not perfect all the time, it is perfect in an imperfect way. Clients know there is no bluff as we admit to the unknown; we operate as efficient as we can, like gears moving in a clock, and we strive and thirst for high quality expectations and work ethic instilling a personal and professional need to want to do well and exceed. I’ve out lined the framework, it is far from perfect. But it our sincere and humble way in which we start a day, a week, a year, a project, in business endeavors, and the jungle it resides in.

Endorsements help in many ways, but interpretation and reaction are what matter most

Nobody Truly Works Alone.

Regardless of profession, every accomplishment, and how it is arrived at, is influenced by feedback and/or input along the way to the final result. A personal best race time, judge’s score at a gymnast meet, cash in hand upon completion of that first wooden birdhouse, an invitation to a speech engagement, were all fueled by help from others in some way. In both our work and personal environments, we all benefit from feedback. I would even argue it is a necessity, especially as an Entrepreneur.

Can Technology Alone Do It?

Digital tools give us instant feedback as we have come to expect. However, it is not the same as human thought process. Technology is a useful tool, but falls short of really touching on a meaningful collaboration, or “volley of feedback". It is the human interest, perspective, and variety of words, including nuances of volume, tone, and diction that provide a more meaningful impact on our actions and heighten performance with quality.

Constructive Criticism Has Great Value Also.

At Mosedale Integrated Solutions we react and respond to fulfill our promise, "provide clarity when technology is confusing". This takes time and patience, two important keys to client engagement and technical support. We are proud when clients sing our praises, and work hard to rectify those who don't. I could shout compliments from the rooftops, boast until the cows come home, but that has little effect on the growth change for us at MIS. We react interpret, and repeat the actions that get us success and in turn the feedback we need.

But Shouting from the Rooftops Is Fun!

It's Exciting
Although it can sometimes get me into trouble, I find pride and excitement in how I freely "run my mouth", about my own, and/or another’s idea or concept. In fact, ideas flood me at times. This takes a waste product throwaway item and transforms it into a usable item. Imagine, a composting setup on countertop, household use! Ideas Are Fluid
Whatever the idea, the entrepreneurial pleasure, ideas are fluid; they need to be fostered and shared in order to develop and grow.

One of my strengths is "the art of conversation". I enjoy frolicking in the discussion, cheerleading an idea of any sort, any stage, crafting the description of the next #radandy antics. Truly, for me the sharing is about the people who are actively participating. The enjoyment is further enhanced when kicking around ideas with other like-minded innovators, futurists, and/or makers. The Risk of Disclosure
Sure, there is a potential of risk in hand waving testimonials. An explanation may be used in other ways, or maybe simply quicker, stronger, faster. Although this may be true, don’t let it stop you! As entrepreneurs, we are all in the same boat. We all want a piece of the pie; individuality and that thrill of a rising success and the success trajectory. We get there in a myriad of ways, including sharing throughout the process. Some can and will steal, using a part/s, or even all of your idea. Heck! Even the delivery method can and could be sidled. Ahh, just embarrassing flattery right?

Parallel Threads of Interest
I recently read a similar thread on this topic “Give your Ideas Away” by Jon Westenberg. It speaks to what we think is a valuable coveted idea; one we should whisper and protect but really when the day is done it is just words. What makes an idea is the backing financial or human capital or the arena where comments discussion and ideas become the next better mouse trap. Westengerg goes on to discuss "what is the real value of an idea, and at what stage in development does it have real monetary potential?” Does the idea need to locked up like a national treasure? Or is there merit in value by getting feedback and input from other creative’s, professionals, artists, designers, and business people. His finish is quite simple “I think the value I gain from their incredible viewpoints and their creativity far outweighs the risk.” When the day is done its about truth and people. Artist Have No Fear
Yes, tomorrow someone could beat you to market with an invention prototype you designed and built with your blood, sweat and tears. Alternatively, they could lend support in your fabrication, financial, and marketing, aiding your strategy so the success trajectory may spark a solid and meaningful relationship. In any case, unless you are working with a large budget surrounded by leading innovators, the idea/dream discussion over (insert libation of your choice) is a great asset. If someone else hits the ground running with a version of your thought process, be flattered, absorb the act of copying as a reflection of your great thinking. Remember there is always another street car.

I recently had a chuckle with my son as we reflected on communions around his peers and coaches. He told me that he had everyone is a giddy state when asked “what is your favorite color?” - his reply ‘Clear”. This may have been lifted for a movie or vine in popular culture but the point is a little humor can go a long way. He seems to transcend the anxiety and stress inherit to Alpine ski racing by doing this and his peers did as well. People lower defensive walls, smile and open up, with humor. A Team and co-working relation are fortified and in project based work. So a little joke, a smile, and good will can mute the high pressures and stresses we face with deadlines and expectations. A small gesture of humor can go a long way and it certainly does make the projects get completed. It enhances the process. We as a team in a collaborative environment can arrive at the end goal and the involved sidetrack splash of fun and humor is necessary in todays business world. And frankly we need more of it.

So, we use humor to cope with stress, it most definitely allows for a resilient self-aware persons to do this and their effectiveness is actually heightened. Professions such as police, firefighters, doctors and nurses in hospital environment all use some sort of humor as a means of coping. The TV series M.A.S.H is a real world prime example. Here the brutality of war injured soldiers was played in a light of fun and humor, there were authentically genuine characters. So humor once again wins. As we watch the series we laugh and smile see beyond the horrors of the pain, injury and death war provides. At the end of the day we become to know. and understand the real human characters in the story, the true authentic reality of these characters in all seriousness. This is the evidence that humor permits a individual to have access to the unstressed areas of our brain and environment allowing for effect work and collaboration. Humor permits us to calmly effectively work through a project and arrive at a end goal. What a joke eh… Ha.

So to clarify, we must cope in the stresses and throws of small business development growth and day to day existence. As a entrepreneur, my triage unit is to respond to technical issues, managing project budgets, and delivering the highest quality product and service to the client. Yes there are stresses in these actions at Mosedale Integrated Solutions, so we smile, laugh, we define a clear understanding of everyone who is involved and meet those needs. I represent a product a business that hinges on performances and accountability, we can make light of that is a humors context to relieve pressure on us and our clients well knowing that when the day is done the end goal will be met. Keeping those benchmark quality requires reactions like thinking on my feet reacting fast, similar to a doctor preforming CPR, however I am not pumping some ones chest I am communicating technology effectively, troubleshoot and mending a firewall configuration, so a smile, a joke in this context can make things a little more digestible when a networks is down or a computer malfunctions. Whatever profession, fighter pilot, doctor, and chief technical officer humor indirectly saves the day.

To summarize it does not mean we are less serious or professional with our goofy humorist actions, but it can help in breaking though on a project lighten it up so that we can see the real end goal. it is necessary for our psyche to have this. the reality of stress addressed head on and combative is destabilizing, so to transcend with humor is a supporting and necessary strategy. So ask me what’s your favor color is? Its clear. Ha! Yeah a silly joke. I would not have been able to write this blog without that mind set. “Why did Adel Cross the Road?” - “To call from the other Side” Ha. Now who is ready for work? Boom! Truth and Consequences is not just a town in New Mexico

The choices we make are often different from the results of the decisions we make. Each one has results and consequences. In business, choices and decisions are about communication and controlling the out come as best you can to maximize the end goal. This is part of what helps me arrive at a professional gain for both my business and me. I am currently gearing up for a local event in New Hampshire. The Littleton High School Career Fair will allow me to expand and grow smart by interfacing and potentially recruiting youthful interns, as well as networking with other businesses in the region. Yes a decision that can permit technical expansion by sharing knowledge, learning together and teaching and training future millennials and empowering an eager and determined cohort. A decision a choice with authentic representation that will have positive gain and consequence in all aspects of #radandy and Mosedale Integrated Solutions -- boom! That choice was a thoughtful plan, a response to a professional invitation. However, I would also like to reinforce that there are gut decisions as well not planned or invited but reactive and exacting. These usually have positive gains and outcomes as well. This is the ‘think on your feet’ the ‘plan b’ decision that rectifies an ill-fated one and arrives at a sold stable outcome. In my experiences when things go south, i.e. a mis-configured piece of hardware, or unresponsive software we thoughtfully react to solve a problem. We strive to use both of these processes of choice and decisions - gut and planned everyday at Mosedale Integrated Solutions. It is who we are; it is a balance. This is where the truth comes in, the communication and transparency that conveys the issue rectifies it and executes follow up with results. I pride myself on this truth in action, and how a consequence although ninety eight percent positive can also be a resultant outcome we don’t want or expect. So, we ‘loop around’ we look at the facts, choose/decide, communicate and execute. Recently, my current blog posts have touched on this. So lets dig a little deeper here: the truth that is told is the authentic self the exposed real person that supports, identifies, and rectifies the consequence, a result of a choices and decisions we are face with daily. The real person grabs the consequential momentum and fosters that positive outcome in business growth. So really we decide to make the best for what the desired goal is, we are constantly thinking “how do we gain and move forward, based on these decisions?” We ‘choose’ often with and unknowing feeling with an unknown outcome- and the typical return is positive. In my personal and play life a choice means an outcome of adventure and meaningful merit. I am striking a balance between thoughtful planned and logical decision-making and the gut approach and blissful risk that ideally makes an individual and businesses grow. I was once told that being in the right place at the right time is a benchmark of business success, but getting to that place is built on the monitoring and bearing of an internal compass and a passionate gut. Maybe that place is Truth and Consequences, New Mexico; maybe it is where we are right now, at the office, in a cafe, on top of a mountain, driving in a car, or at retail shops or workplace/workshop. Wherever you may be, make a choice to execute a decision and move forward, take the good decisions and use them to their potential, leave the bad behind and don't look in the rear view mirror. Inspiration in the Entrepreneurial Arena: Where does it come from?

Fortunately, I am exposed to a variety of situations that leave me thinking, WOW!, I need to follow up; give that person a push, a gesture to show good faith. Conversely, I often feel WOW!, there is someone with a really great idea, a unique process, or philosophy on task, project, or meeting that seems to get burned into our brains. So, the real question is how, where, from whom do we get inspired. Sometimes what seems ordinary can do the trick. This morning, a bird sings a song in a tree while I read a message from a mentor/advisor saying, "rise and shine". Simple, but an effective inspirational morning wake up. We often find decisive business strength in surreptitious meetings conferring a goal or idea with others. Inspiration is found at the knife's edge sales presentation you sit in on and think, "HOLY MOLEY!", that is the real deal, portraying a solid and air tight bomb-proof appeal that makes one want to run to his or her desk, workshop, studio, etc., inspired to do his or her best (or as I often say, 'kill it') at work. This leads me to believe that what we look to for inspiration and what we require are two similar things. Presenters want a bomb-proof delivery. The audience wants see that. Over a cup of coffee in the morning we see our environment, the little details that allow us to look inside and say 'WOW! I'm going to kill it today", whether it be a presentation, a meeting, or any type of interaction. It is these interactions that bring forth the spirit and drive to ignite inspiration in the workplace, the fabrication lab, the fun outing with family. A friend once told me that we fuel each others' ideas in the process of sharing challenges as well as success, and even defeat. When active in a process, but stumped in decision making and client engagement, sharing can reignite inspiration. It is common to hear and see mangers in the work place who want to see this from their employees. The expectation for novel concepts, efficient execution, and reach goals is high. The way we recognize these the little things (a bird on wire, or successful results at a presentation) the more that inspiration grows and travels. It helps give inspiration legs to transfer it to someone else. Finding inspiration as well as giving it, is what allows for highly effective entrepreneurial and business leadership. Inspiration can be found in infinite ways, people, places, and more. Whichever role you are engaged in, success is germinated from inspiration. I find it helpful to notice, and make sure when possible, to show gratitude to the source. This is an important part of what makes me feel effective at the end of the day, in both work and in life. The Element of Surprise: Day-to-day plan disruption can lead to a path of dynamic adventure!

Surprise is the topic of #radandysantics. This is the fifth blog entry in the new series of experiences, observations, thoughts, ideas, and lessons #radandy, based on individuality, relationships, business, entrepreneurial growth and collaboration. Previously, I have touched on some concepts relative to teams, interactions and expectations in and among people in a work environment, and managing directives, deadlines and disappointment. In business and in entrepreneurial endeavors these topics benefit us as we sort out who, what and why we do what we do. These topics speak of measured results and outcomes that for the most part are molded by our skills and knowledge. However, inevitably there are things that are outside our control, deadlines, disappointment, the team and the human interactions are often recognizable, but there are often unforeseen, or unexpected factors that disrupt the most concise planning. Each day we wake up, go about our daily routine at some level of regularity. As for me, I get up, have breakfast, drive to work, sit, compute, interact, in a kind of cog clicking way. Even recreational time seems to require planning as a manufactured criteria in these endeavors. But always in the background and usually willing to get involved is the the element of surprise. In previous #radandysantics blog entries I've discussed that it is how we deal and react to a situation that is the most beneficial to personal growth and success. It is by recognizing it, and deciding/knowing what path to choose to meet the end goal in our plan – by navigating the derailment of the surprise. We need to look at the risk in relation to the decision, and prepare to enter in an uncharted voyage, only to return to the plan and exceptions that were laid out initially. To paint a larger picture, following is an example in a logical process based scenario. We have scheduled meetings client visits, and calibrated time and effort to do these things. This can get complicated by another commitment interfering, or a pressure/commitment that overlaps with the stable continued plan we have accepted at our daily onset. Surprise often requires acting on our feet with a quick response. Often choosing another path is the only option. At Mosedale Integrated Solutions we do by the week, by the day, sometimes by the minute, as we balance a variety of people, schedules, and needs, striving for a balance. In the IT support and services arena, when expectations and needs unfold I choose from many different paths and make the best decisions possible based on things out side of our control. It can be frustrating to be derailed from that carefully calculated plan that is so comfortable and familiar. However, it can also be an adventure into the unknown; an exciting journey on a path you have no choice but enter. Once we are traveling the path opened to redirect the origin plan, risk is minimized. Managing lost time, from our day to day plan, we digest how effectively we can manage our time and our priority from one project to the next. So with any surprise there is a positive outcome in a long term gain. It may seem like a distraction taking us away from other plan priorities but, in fact, it helps us focus more carefully. At the end of the day there is always another day, always another adventurous path waiting to surprise and whisk us away to. This disruption solidifies an entrepreneurs desire and fortitude in completing projects with acute focus. The day to day plan may always be in place. But is the great fortune of surprise that reinforces our effectiveness by introducing an intense focus on tasks and project competition. It is the combination of detailed planning disrupted by surprise and leads to adventure in goal management and meetings. This can be evident in the solid results of individuals, business partners, contractors, staff members, managers and leaders. Who we really are? In a digital world of chat text, meet ups, pitch events, conferences, and client engagement, it is who you/we are that makes one remember you with a lasting impression. Sure, It helps to dress for success. But it is the inner spirit that is the real fabric, not what you wear (although never hurts to have a solid pair of shoes or a nice gold watch). To peel back the layers a bit more, on a more scientific level, humans are about 90 percent water. But it is our brains, our thought process, or a response to active listening, our past experiences, and the logical interpretation of each situation that really makes the internal human waters (all 90%) flow. Don’t misunderstand, every situation and interaction is different. The portrayal of ones self within the context and scope is important as one needs to be internally aware depending on audience. But ones true self shines as authentic and it can be however it is a awareness and self reflection thing. Honesty and transparency are the pinnacle. Judgement and misinterpretation is a pitfall in how we impress upon others. Judgement and misinterpretation can quickly change a discussion conversation pitch, and in business/human relations. As time goes on, in business client partnering and engagement the real person begins to show. Here an employee, manager and leader can accurately and productively find comfort in these habits as their real self is not just a business or work facade. In a distracting, interrupting jagged work environment the real self awareness can allow for one to do what they need to do in order to be productive and efficient. This is likened to using the internal ‘real’ internal compass a guiding force for one either at the desk or at the water cooler. This may sound easy and I may be repeating an old adage in meeting and management and human resources scenarios. However, by being who we are, asking relevant questions, and persistently revising with genuine follow up as a real people who have no hidden agenda, we can ensure growth, solid relationships, and open up endless options and opportunities in the entrepreneurial and business world.

The '3Ds': Directives, Disappointments, Deadlines

Both sustainable organizations and business communications require delivering and managing expectations regarding directives. Equally important, and often in conjunction, comes managing disappointment. This includes falling short of one's own expectations, as well as with others. Consistently meeting deadlines, for example, serves as proof of a team's resilience. With directive, communication is key. Taking the necessary time to understand client expectations and goals is the best place to begin. I have experienced this first hand and use methods suggested to me by fellow business consultant, Alan Lee, ideas and practices in "Lets Get Real or Lets Not Play" by Mahan Khalsa and Randy Illig. Client communication, expectations and goals are explored thoroughly. Khalsa and Illig infuse the content of clear directive, managing to integrate positivity within disappointment that can occur. More often than not in business the day to day runs as expected. Phones, financials, administrative tasks, just to name a few, are almost ritual. But there are big pieces: meeting needs of clients, planning and strategizing growth and development, as well as follow-up and opportunity-seeking, that must find a way to get folded into the more automatic day-to-day business. As things oscillate in a chaotic fashion from day-to-day: phones that never stop, the endless interruptions however important distract one from that ‘list’--the client report summary, printing of a invoice, or responding thoughtfully to a email can all be frustrating at times. Yet, in the scheme of things, For me, it comes down to managing my reactions and internal barometer of balance and regulation. My internal center of balance can diffuse the external complication. In turn, this can be frustrating. However, being aware of that can help keep the day positive and productive, whatever comes up. There is only so much time and prioritizing helps. But, it is having the ability to recognize external factors are just that--external. By responding to situations and the barrage of information with realistic expectations is key to survival in our distracting, media-driven workplace and general business environment. This is the arena for entrepreneurial spirit and managing The '3D’s' in small business are the key for positive growth, momentum and that refreshing feeling of closing the deal. This is by no means an excuse, for loss of productivity or missing deadlines that create disappointment. I find if we peel back layers and look at the individual each employee at his or her own level, as they are, as they define themselves, then a comfortable progressive climate of results-based execution happens. When expectations are acknowledged and agreed upon, all parties involved have solid directives. In turn deadlines are met, the client is satisfied and a clear understating of who, what and how we roll though the business endeavors of The '3Ds' lead to positivity, growth, and success.

Team! In business, in sports, in family, we have all heard one or more situations: "Go Team"; There is no ‘I’’ in team".; "Many hands make light work".; "There is power in numbers". Guess what? I say that it is all true! Building a solid team for business growth and development is perhaps the most important part of a manager's, or in my case, an Entrepreneur's job. The balance of identifying the skill sets necessary for my team, as well identifying each individual's (including my own) strengths and weaknesses, are crucial to make the team complete. With this knowledge, I can best lead my team to share my vision, and work toward a common goal. With solid teamwork, any business, non-profit, or individual needs momentum to grow. Granted in a team there is management, communication and disappointment but since there is no ‘I’ the teammates work best when recognizing a cavern, and promptly address it. In a team, as is commonly referred to in the military forces, team members "have each others' backs", they fortify other ideas when not necessarily truly understanding, or believing. Trust, confidence, and open communications solidify the larger capacity of the team. When every team member buys into this, and returns this backup feedback, the organization is armed with a transparent model. When the day is done it is fun, teammates can feel safe to provide each other new perspectives, or point out an outdated box look at one and many situations. When leaders at all levels are equally involved, momentum on projects move forward, and goals are realized. Keeping track of who, how, or what detracts from overall goals and its importance. I'm my experience, a well oiled machine (my team) works best organically, not with excessive meetings, emails, c.c.'s, etc. The spirit of any successful leader is how he or she embodies his or her drive into the team. So, yes, all the old sayings are true, I believe. That's the 'stuff' that makes a strong foundation to enable any organization grow, profit and succeed. GO TEAM!!!
