The stated goals of current U.S.drug policy -- reducing crime, drug addiction, and juvenile drug use -- have not been achieved, even after nearly four decades of a policy of "war on drugs". This policy, fueled by over a trillion of our tax dollars has had little or no effect on the levels of drug addiction among our fellow citizens, but has instead resulted in a tremendous increase in crime and in the numbers of Americans in our prisons and jails. With 4.6% of the world's population, America today has 22.5% of the worlds prisoners. But, after all that time, after all the destroyed lives and after all the wasted resources, prohibited drugs today are cheaper, stronger, and easier to get than they were thirty-five years ago at the beginning of the so-called "war on drugs".

He was later assigned to serve as an aide to former CIA director William Colby, who was Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam at the time. Beginning his campaign for election while still stationed in Vietnam, DeCamp was elected and served four terms as a Nebraska state senator, from 1971 to 1987. In the May 2006 election, he was rebuffed in his attempt to return to the Legislature. He is currently a practicing attorney in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In September 2003 a Dominican priest, Father Tom Doyle, then stationed in Germany, was quietly relieved of his duties as an Air Force chaplain by Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien, who heads the Archdiocese of Military Services. This decision was made public only in late April, and Doyle is completing his time in the military as a substance abuse counselor at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina. The explanation offered was a difference in opinion between Father Doyle and the archbishop on the necessity of daily Mass on military bases. According to John Sheehan, ARCC national coordinator, the action “smacks of retaliation for Father Doyle’s outspoken support for the victims of sexual abuse by the clergy.” Referring to the books Our Fathers by David France and Vows of Silence by Jason Berry and Gerald Renner, Sheehan commented that “it seems an odd coincidence that he is no longer allowed to function as a priest in the military at just the time his attempts to end the bishops’ conspiracy of silence are chronicled in two new studies of the scandal.”

Going back for decades, UFO witnesses have seen unexplained objects leaving and entering the world's oceans, seas, bays, rivers and lakes. In recent years, submarine UFO activity has been observed in the coastal waters off Puerto Rico and Iceland. And in late 1999 1 spoke with the host of a radio show in the Midwestern region of the United States who told me of recent sightings of UFOs seen entering and leaving the waters of Lake Erie. In light of observations such as these, I hypothesize that at least some of the observed submarine UFO activity could be related to clandestine sub-sea (or sub-lacustrine) bases made by terrestrial humans. This is a possibility that I believe researchers should consider when carrying out their investigations. Just because a phenomenon, or suite of related phenomena, are highly strange or bizarre, does not mean of itself that they must necessarily be alien, or extraterrestrial. Indeed, from published accounts in the popular aerospace press of recent years, it is clear that the American military-industrial complex has covertly developed a new generation of technology that has been carefully kept out of the public eye.

In addition to natural mind enhancing supplements, McKenna spoke on the subjects of virtual reality (which he saw as a way to artistically communicate the experience of psychedelics), 'techno-paganism,' artificial intelligence, evolution, extraterrestrials, ancestor-worship (or, as he put it, contacting 'dead people'), and aesthetic theory (art/visual experience as 'information,' hence the significance of hallucinatory visions experienced under the influence of psychedelics). He advised the taking of psychedelics in relatively-to-extremely large doses (asserting that those who had only sampled psychedelics in small doses failed to access their full potential), particularly alone, in a dark space, without music or other forms of external stimulation. Philosophically and religiously, he expressed admiration for Marshall McLuhan, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Gnostic Christianity, and James Joyce (calling Finnegans Wake the best literary representation of the psychedelic experience). He remained opposed to all forms of organized religion or guru-based forms of spiritual awakening. He believed DMT was the apotheosis of the psychedelic experience and spoke of the 'jeweled, self-dribbling basketballs' or 'self-transforming machine elves' that one encounters in that state.
