Boy Makes Music - Oak Island EP

"Mid-19th century newspaper stories recount that in 1795, young Donald Daniel McInnis discovered a circular depression on the south eastern end of the island with an adjacent tree which had a tackle block on one of its overhanging branches. McInnis, with the help of friends John Smith and Anthony Vaughan, excavated the depression and discovered a layer of flagstones a few feet below. On the pit walls there were visible markings from a pick. As they dug down they discovered layers of logs at about every ten feet (3 m). They abandoned the excavation at 30 feet (10 m)." - Wikipedia entry for Oak Island.

This music may not make you think of treasure, but it will definitely make you think of something valuable, long-lost.

Alexandre Bilodeau - Bonze Deluxe EP

Finally!! A Polygon Network release from Moncton's Alexandre Bilodeau.

Bilodeau -- quirky techno superstar -- leads a relentless attack on Atlantic Canada yet again with this fabulous Bonze Deluxe EP... The meaning of which I am not quite certain. Maybe he should say what it means.

Anyway. The EP has five rock-solid tracks that will definitely get your head nodding, if not your booty shaking.

...

I just checked "BONZE" in the dictionary, and apparently it means a buddhist monk.

So I guess that means that if you don't dig this EP, be prepared or Bilodeau is going to come to your house and get all buddhist on your ass. Watch out.

I don't claim to be the first person to talk about these guys, but I'm surprised I haven't heard much of them before now.

I noticed on the Warp site they were touring with Chris Clark, one of the label's army of electronic music jedi, so I decided to check them out.

Turns out they're a gripping, glitchy, guitar-driven band who can build or destroy walls of noise at their whim.
