Original Entry: The Indianapolis Star reports that Cumulus AC “Warm 93.9″ WRWM Indianapolis will drop its format at midnight tonight and begin stunting in advance of a new format to launch this weekend.

Clear Channel will flip Modern Rock “105.5 The Vulcan” Birmingham, AL to News/Talk as a simulcast of sister 960 WERC. WERC’s program lineup includes local hosts Steve Shannon (of the long syndicated Steve & DC show) and Leah Brandon from 6 to 11am and syndicated hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Dave Ramsey, and George Noory the remainder of the day.

Longtime Miami radio host Neil Rogers has announced that he will be leaving his midday position at 560 WQAM and become a consultant to the station. Rogers, who had been doing his show from his personal studio in Toronto had been off the air since being suspended in late-May for cursing out station GM Joe Bell. Rogers had been with WQAM since leaving crosstown WIOD in 1997.

Newcap Radio brings the “Amp Radio” branding to Calgary as it flips Classic Alternative CFUL “Fuel 90.3″ to CHR as “Amp Radio Calgary” and the infamous 10,000 songs in a row stunt. CFUL was recently granted a signal upgrade to 100kw and unlike the United States is a commercial station although it is on what we consider to be part of the non-commercial side of the FM dial.

Apex Broadcasting continues the shuffle of its signals in Charleston, SC as it flips Gospel 1390 WXTC to Sports. The new WSPO also adds an FM simulcast on a translator at 99.3. The WSPO calls had been parked at 95.9, which is now WIOP.

Air America Radio will begin its LMA of Bonneville’s 1050 WTOP Silver Spring, MD/Washington D.C. on Wednesday, June 17. The newly minted WZAA will carry the Air America network programming along with some local inserts. 1050 most recently simulcasted the WTOP News programming that continues at 103.5 FM as well as two suburban FM’s in the Washington market.

You may have seen ads on RadioInsight over the past few months for ChicagoSportsWebio.com, the internet sports talker founded by former WSCR morning host Mike North and David Hernandez. Early last week rumors started swirling that the webcaster would soon add a traditional AM simulcast. By Friday, North, his wife, and Jeff Schwartz another partner in the site were fired by Hernandez after North questioned why paychecks were bouncing.

The story got stranger over the weekend as the FBI and SEC announced that Hernandez had prior convictions and was under a criminal investigation that led to the discovery that Hernandez was running a Ponzi scheme. As of this writing he is reportedly missing and ChicagoSportsWebio will shut down later today, while North’s morning show will continue its TV simulcast on Comcast Sportsnet Chicago for now. ChicagolandRadioAndMedia.com and Ed Sherman of Crain’s Chicago Business have been all over the story.

Over the past few years a number of moves have been made to move stations in and out of the Charleston, SC market. The final piece of that puzzle has been put into place as Apex Broadcasting’s WSPO Isle of Palms has signed on with Classic Hits as “FM 95.9“.

The move-in required the following steps to occur:

Capital Broadcasting Bright AC KBZN Ogden/Salt Lake City, UT has rebranded as “Now 97.9“. The station had shifted from Smooth Jazz to AC late in 2008, but had kept its “Breeze” moniker until recently. Musically the station is similar to CBS’ “Fresh” branded stations.

Meanwhile, Clear Channel has rebranded crosstown AC KOSY as “Today’s 106.5” presumably to counter Now’s presentation.

Just a few weeks following 107.3 WKLQ Grand Rapids dropping Rock for Sports, another Western Michigan FM looks to be making the same move. Clear Channel’s “Radio X 96.1” WMAX-FM looks to be dropping Alternative for ESPN Radio. Clear Channel has registered ESPN961.com and ESPNWestMichigan.com. Meanwhile, a Twitter account for the new station has appeared with the following statement heralding the new format “West Michigan, we’re coming to your radio this summer, ESPN RADIO 96.1 FM“.
