Global Radio’s Capital FM has played a song by the boyband One Direction for the first time in three months.

Radio Today understands the group’s hit What Makes You Beautiful aired on the hit music network at around 7.45pm tonight during James Barr’s evening show.

Jonathan Dimbleby is to leave his Saturday afternoon BBC Radio 4 phone-in show ‘Any Answers?’ after nearly 25 years as host of the programme.

He’ll be replaced from 9th June by Anita Anand, the former 5 live Drive co-host.

Another community radio station has said it needs funding urgently to avoid shutting down and going off the air.

The Park, which broadcasts from Lymington in Hampshire on 96.9FM, is appealing to local businesses and residents to help save the station.

BBC Radio 2 has announced details of its ‘festival in a day’ in London’s Hyde Park later this year, which will feature Jessie J, Status Quo and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall.

The Live in Hyde Park event attracted 25,000 people last year, and tickets costing £35 each have just gone on sale for the show on Sunday 9th September this year.

Bauer digital station The Hits Radio has announced a 12-hour Lawson special this weekend as the group wait to find out what position their debut single enters the charts at.

The station says the band will be ‘locked in’ the studio from 7am on Sunday morning and will be on air right through to 7pm.

VW will be installing DAB Digital Radio as standard in all new cars from next year, with the new Beetle already equipped.

Vauxhall have also committed to the same timescale, with Ford saying the majority of new vehicles will include DAB by the end of 2013.

Over 10,000 walkers took take part in Free Radio’s charity events at the weekend.

Walk for Harry was created in memory of and as a tribute to Harry Moseley, who tirelessly raised funds for Cancer Research whilst fighting his own battle with brain cancer.

Amazing Radio has ceased broadcasting on the national Digital One multiplex this week, and has written an open letter to the radio industry to explain why.

It states transmissions ceased because they were unable to secure acceptable terms for a contract extension.

Global Radio’s 95.8 Capital FM is the biggest London radio station according to the latest listening figures, with 2.269m tuning in each week.

Only BBC Radio 4 has more listeners in the capital city, although Magic 105.4′s market share is bigger than Capital FM’s.

GMG Radio’s Real Radio and Smooth Radio brands both saw slight increases in audience size over the last 12 months, giving the group an extra 219,000 listeners overall year-on-year.

Smooth saw decent audience rises in most regions where it appears on FM as well as digital radio, while a drop for Real in South Wales was cancelled out by an 18% increase in audience in Yorkshire.

Bauer’s Kiss now has 4.4m listeners across the UK, an increase of 7.2% over the year, and in London its reach of 1.958m puts the station third commercial just behind Magic but above Heart.

Magic 105.4 is the commercial market leader in terms of audience share, with its total hours nearly 2m more than the nearest commercial rival.

The BBC estimates overall 130 posts will be lost instead of the original estimate of 280 and the savings target is now 8 million pounds compared with the original of 15 million pounds.

Two BBC Radio Humberside presenters have become the oldest Gold winners for the Sony Radio Academy Awards in its 30-year history.

86 year old Beryl Renwick and 90 year old Betty Smith started presenting on the station alongside David Reeves six years ago after they were talent spotted during a guided tour of the BBC studios.
