The most recent is a visit to a local farm approximately 7 miles out from the St. Joe station. Sounds great until you realize where's the transportation. Maybe taxi or on demand bus -- maybe. The kicker, though, is that Amtrak provides only one daily round trip between Grand Rapids and Chicago&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

The editorial referenced a rise in gasoline prices and ridership as a reason to expand the service. A couple of recommendations involve reworking the service to offer 30 minute schedules and more transfer points. The West Michigan Transit Study Technical Committee is set to look at the issue. The study is due sometime in 2009.This development comes from a push to connect the lake shore and city. Anyone who rides the Pere Marquette knows the station as "the shack," or some other negative connotation. The place was hurried to get Amtrak in GR so aesthetics took a back seat.
