A friend of mine posted this the other day on Facebook and I thought it might be interesting to go through and comment one way or the other in regards to how accurate the stereotype actually was.  I found that some actually hold fairly true, while others are just silly and wrong.  So, without further ado here is my personal take on the “Top 50 things that show we are Gay” !

1. You wear the appropriate underwear for each of your dates.
That’s silly….what does “appropriate underwear even mean”

2. You understand the subtle differences between at least 20 brands of vodka.
Ok, definitely not 20…..5-10 perhaps!

3. You understand the immense importance of good (or bad) lighting.
OK yes to this one…this is true on so many levels!

4. You are in a crowded bar and can still spot a toupee from 50 yards away.
Not just in a crowded bar, and i think most people can spot a bad rug???

5. You can tell a woman you love her bathing suit and really MEAN her bathing suit.
Yes…..that’s true or tell her she wears the suit well without leering at her body!

6. You can tell a woman she has lipstick on her teeth without embarrassing her.
True also…though sometimes its more fun to make it embarrassing!

7. You have pictures of naked men you don’t know in your home.
Ok this one is totally not true….least for me!  Why would i have pics of naked men
on my walls?  What am i 16?  Tackorama!

8. You have pictures of naked men you don’t know in your home and on your computer.
Hmmmm…..errrhmmm……..ok, next question please!

9. You have pictures of naked men you DO know in your home.
Again no way….just tacky if one does!

10. You understand why the good Lord created Spandex.
Nope as well….i think spandex is all sorts of wrong and VERY rarely looks cute on
anyone!

11. You understand why the good Lord did not intend everyone to wear Spandex.
Very true, unfortunately it is the people that shouldn’t be usually wearing it!

12. You know the difference between a latte, cappuccino, cafe au lait and a macchiato. And if you don’t, you know how to fake it.
Ok guilty! hahaha!  This one is quite true!

13. You know how to get back at just about everyone.
True again….no matter the time frame required as well!

14. Your pets always have great names.
Considering I haven’t had pets in years I’m going to have to say no…plus when I was  younger i was never very creative with the pet names!
15. Nobody expects you to change a tire.
Ok true, BUT believe it or not i “could” change a tire if required to do so!

16. You’re the only guy who gets to do the “Cosmo” quizzes.
Ok again nooooo!  Much to stereotypical of a generalization!

17. You know how to get a waiter’s attention.
True…..but this one isn’t a hard skill to master!

18. You only wear polyester when you MEAN to.
LOL….I would NEVER mean too!  Period!

19. At any given instant, you can recite who was gay since the dawn of history.
Ok a little far fetched, but I do know some of the important ones!

20. You are, hands down, your nephew’s and nieces’ favorite uncle.
Yet to be seen as I’ve not met him, but probably not as I live so very far away!

21. You can tell your sexual compatibility with a potential partner by the way he holds his drink.
Ok, i’m thinking…..hahahaha…..maybe yes, but not always!  This one is a bit
of a stereotype as well.  Often perpetuated even within our own community.

22. You can smile in such a way to let someone know you can’t stand them.
So very very true, but then again that’s a skill everyone from the South has….male or female!

23. You wouldn’t be caught dead in Hooters.
That’s the truth….I can’t think a more unpleasant dining experience!

24. You can freeze an approaching bar troll twenty feet away.
I was going to say no at first, but on second thought….its true! hahaha!

25. You’re good pals with women other people can’t stand.
Ok, yes true as well!

26. You’ve always got an opinion, and don’t mind sharing it.
No i don’t mind sharing it, but sometimes it is just good manners not to!

27. You’ve read the book, seen the movie, done the musical.
LOL, ok yes!

28. You know how to “air kiss”.
Do i ever….but the skill lies in knowing ‘who’ to give them too!

29. You know exactly which cosmetic surgery to consider having…and the perfect excuse to give people who ask where you’ve been for two weeks.
Nah….I wouldn’t be shy to tell people i’d had work done if i could afford such
luxuries.

30. You know how to dress strategically.
Again not really….maybe when i was younger but as I age I will most often go for
the most comfortable yet appropriate route.

31. You know when to move out and move on.
Yes, but i don’t think this is a skill specific only to the community.

32. You are the only one at the class reunion who looks better than you did in high school.
Yes, but I highly doubt I’d attend a class reunion if they had one…high school was
a traumatizing experience i’ve spent years getting over.

33. You’ve got at least one framed picture of a pet.
No…..silly generalization!

34. You know that being called a “cheap slut” isn’t necessarily an insult.
LOL…..okkkk!  Nuff said!

35. You wouldn’t buy someone a mug for his/her birthday.
Lord no, nor would i buy them a neck tie!

36. You know which wine to bring.
Ok yes….I do know a thing or to about my wines!

37. Sales clerks don’t mess with you.
They try cause Thai shops are famous for their overzealous sales people
but they usually regret messing with me.

38. You have a medicine chest stocked for any occasion.
Ok yes, but that’s cause I’ve a doctor in my life!

39. You never hold a grudge for longer than a decade.
Not true….longer is definitely possible!

40. You’ve just about defeated the accent you were born with.
LOL…..depends on who you ask….I’d say yes, but depends on who i’m talking too.  It
definitely isn’t as strong as others.

41. You know the way to a man’s heart is not necessarily through his stomach.
No comment……this one just sound rude!

42. You choose the most fabulous greeting cards.
This one is true…….i do put a lot of thought into them when i buy them.

43. You know every film ever made with male frontal nudity.
Ok silly…..totally not true! hahaha!

44. You’ve got sunscreen at every conceivable SPF level.
Yes ok true….but i burn easily!

45. You have the latest International Male catalog.
I do not…..but I enjoyed looking at them when i was younger!

46. You wouldn’t dream of dressing out of the latest International Male catalog.
True….tacky tacky!

hahaha!  True and then some!

Ok yes….I do…but i know straight people that do as well!

I applaud Moby in his efforts to help such a worthy and needed service such as domestic violence shelters. This seems like a no brainer when it comes to funding these organizations. Why and how can The State of California cut funding to a population that needs it most?
