Miami is regarded as one of the most vibrant cities in America. It is full of tall magnificent buildings towering up into the sky, while along side are nestled much smaller modest buildings reflecting the architecture of an earlier generation.

When you walk around the streets of Miami you pick up many different languages been spoken. It is not uncommon to hear a mixture of North American, Cuban, South American, Caribbean and European being spoken in this truly cosmopolitan city.

Miami was originally a tangled jungle and it owes its birth to the determination of Julia Tuttle to tame it. She managed to persuade the rail road barons that Miami was a place worth developing on account of its beauty and climate. As a result they extended their railroads all the way south to Miami and the modern Miami was created as a direct result.

Miami is a vast sprawling city that reaches down as far as Florida City and Homestead, a distance of 25 miles to the south. It then reaches as far north as Fort Lauderdale. There are many islands linked to Miami by numerous bridges and also the world famous Miami Beach.

The beauty about Miami is that there is something there for almost every taste. The city is constantly busy throughout the day and night and many tourists fall in love with its modern day charm and return to visit year after year.

Image via WikipediaI haven't really travelled much but I would like to. The only thing with me is that I don't like long flights. About 4 hours is enough for me - maybe this will change later on I don't know but the only places I've been to so far are in Europe and the surrounding islands. I nearly went to Morocco but that was when I was staying in one of the Canary islands and it was only a boat ride away and a short flight. I love traveling and seeing new cultures, architecture and meeting new people. There is always something different to see and do when traveling in Europe and some of the places I've been to have had beautiful beaches and in the cities old buildings and sights to see.

I would like to go to places like Africa, india, Australia and some paradise island locations but for now I think I'll stick with Europe. I've never even been to the USA and have found out about America mostly from being online as a lot of the websites and things I do online seem to be USA based.

The rise to prominence of the Tusker Safaris sevens rugby tournament has been gradual but has surpassed all expectations. Attracting the best teams in rugby world wide, the tournament held in March is now in the world championship series and is extremely competitive. The event has become an integral part of a series of events that is stirring sports tourism in Kenya.

The Virgin Atlantic sponsored Kenya team has been making a good account of itself. Unlike their 15 a side counterparts who have not quite made it to the big league, the 7s a side have been posing a major threat to traditional rugby power houses like England, South Africa, Fiji, Australia, France and New Zealand.

But it is the worth of business generated by this tournament that is making hoteliers and tour operators yearn for more sports tourism in Kenya. Sports officials who accompany the teams often take time to tour the tourist hot spots available in the country. Regionally, the safari seven is proving to be a popular crowd puller, with people travelling from the neighboring countries to watch the event.

In the last few years, sports tourism has been been gaining popularity with various disciplines holding international tournaments. Over the years, the only sports that attracted international participants were motor sports, with the famous safari rally gaining international acclaim since its inception in the 1950s.

But its withdrawal from the world championship series in the mid 1990s was a big blow to the sport. That has changed in the last couple of years though, with the introduction of the classic safari, an east African event that only allows vehicles manufactured in the 1970s. For most drivers, the event is a fun filled tour of east Africa, that relives memories of the same drivers during their competitive age in earlier years.

In rugby, a string of positive results against rugby powerhouses has seen the Kenya team climb up in rank to fifth in the world. This has ensured that the team remains in the series of the world tour, building up on its fast growing number of adoring fans worldwide. In the process, money has not been scarce with the team attracting sponsorship from East Africa's biggest beer producers EABL and virgin Atlantic airlines.

With Kenyan economic gains set to continue with the formation of the new government coalition, the rise of sports tourism in Kenya is likely to become more prominent and is sure to include many more disciplines. Water sports, golf, rallying and even football are the likely disciplines likely to see an increase in visitors in the next few years.

If you do a search on the internet on your chosen country, city or location you will probably find thousands of websites and blogs listed. if you want to read some blog posts from travel blogs you could do a blog specific search on search engines and directories like google blog search, technorati blog directory, bloglines, blogdigger, mybloglog and others. You will find different blog posts and articles listed on exactly what you are searching for so it is a good idea to use specific keywords like USA, Florida, Disney.

Spain one of my fave places

Image via Wikipedia.One of my favorite places to go in the Summer is Spain. I like the nightlife and the culture there is very relaxed. There are a lot of things to do in Spain, nice accommodation and seaside resorts to visit. Some of the beaches are really nice as well and you can go to music festivals, concerts, beach parties and large open air nightclubs. A lot of the nightclubs in spain are very famous and a lot of well known dj's, bands and singers go there to play and perform throughout the summer. There are a lot of acts, light shows, fire shows and club dancers as well who perform in the clubs and entry is usually free as long as you buy at least one drink. It is very sociable and you can meet others from all over the world who travel to Spain in the summer. it is very hot though and you will find that you everyone still goes to the beach evening in the evening. There are a lot of beach bars which have live music, and even dj's so if you're not in the mood for clubbing you can always drink cocktails, and watch the sunset or even dance to the latest sounds by the beach until 1 or 2 in the morning.

Before a holiday everyone usually gets ready and goes shopping for all the things they'll need while they're away, but there are some disadvantages in this. Packing large suitcases and carrying them can be quite tiring and meaning waiting in long queues at the check-in in the airport. You may also find that going through customs takes longer and your bags may even get checked. To avoid this you could always pack a smaller bag just with the essentials and buy when you're in the country of your destination. You can find a lot of nice clothes, sunwear and beach wear in Europe, many which are quite cheap. And also the designer fashion is unique in each different European country so you may want to buy some things you can bring back with you that not everybody else has here. As a lot of the European countries are hot throughout the summer, you can find some really unique swimwear, bikinis and outfits to wear. There are a lot of markets you can visit as well which have cheap and new clothes. Also the sun protection creams are different abroad and you may find better anti sunburn creams, moisturizers, bronzers and make up.

Beach by day, city by night in Barcelona?

Image via WikipediaBarcelona is a great city to go to but it gets very crowded in the Summer. The famous Las Ramblas in the centre is difficult to walk down and it may be better to stay just outside the centre or in one of the resorts on along the coast near barcelona. You can get to Barcelona city centre very easily by train, and depending where you stay along the coast you can go into town in 10 minutes to 1 hour. A lot of the Costa Brava has many tourists and these resorts usually only stay open in the summer. There are many english, irish, british northeners, germans and italians and a lot of the resorts are geared towards these cultures. Barcelona is more Spanish and you do not find many there who speak english very well. It is a very old city with lots of little streets filled with cool bars, sophisticated restaurants, live music and nightlife.

You could get the best of the city and the beach by staying in a luxury resort and then visiting the city for the tourist activities, cultural sights and delicious meals. Everyone still goes to the beach up until around 8pm in the summer and evening meals can start as late as 10pm so you won't miss out if you want to hang around the beach or your hotel in the daytime and then go out at night.

In Barcelona you will find a lot of Spanish designer clothes you can buy. The fashion there is very cool, and there is a lot of different styles for all ages. There are also a lot of small shops on the streets off the main centre and other areas. You can find some great bargains here and nice jewelry, clothes, accessories and other things you may want to buy. You can also visit their markets for some nice bags, shoes, food, lace and other typical Spanish things to buy. If you go to the resorts, it is really like home away from home but more catered to the Spanish lifestyle. You can find english products, foods and fashion but sometimes they are more expensive as the shop owners import them from here. Also there are a lot of bargain you can buy in Spain, including alcohol which is very good quality and much cheaper than over here.

But be careful it's very hot in the summer in Spain and it can be quite tiring walking around the small streets or markets. It's better to go shopping early in the morning or later at night as many of the smaller shops stay open until 10pm. But if you go in the daytime, you could go to shopping malls or larger department stores as they all have nice cool airconditioning

I am, by all accounts, not a very good chef. I have been known to burn popcorn, ruin hard-boiled eggs, and bake cookies into hard, inedible lumps. I am a disaster in the kitchen.

It was with some trepidation, then, that I entered the kitchen of the Taste of Thai cooking school in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Cooking schools are a popular activity in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest city, located in the mountainous northern region.

This class was held in the house of Yui Sid Kwan, the owner and head chef at Taste of Thai. Our class was a one day event in which we would learn to cook six dishes in the traditional Thai manner, using fresh local ingredients and many fragrant spices.

The outdoor patio-style kitchen held six individual cooking stations, each complete with a wok, the vessel used to cook many Asian foods, and an assortment of tools. Our teacher, Yui, would demonstrate at her station the proper method for making a recipe. We would then copy what she had done at our own woks. We began with Cashew Chicken, followed by Tom Yam Soup, Green Chicken Curry, Fried Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, and Mango with Sticky Rice. For each of these recipes, we completed all the steps, from chopping our own ingredients to arranging the final dish on a platter. It was hard, at first, to get the hang of using the wok! After some practice, though, I got the hang of it and only managed to burn one of the recipes.

In between cooking, we took a thirty minute break to visit a nearby local market. Here Yui taught us about the different types of tofu and noodles and introduced us to a variety of fruits and vegetables native to Thailand. We learned about durian, custard apples, morning glory stems, and banana tree flowers.

We also, of course, ate the recipes we created and ended the day with happy full bellies. And, I am proud to report, it was easy to replicate the recipes at home in Vancouver. If certain ingredients are not available in your home country, Yui Sid Kwan can suggest alternatives that you might be able to find.

A Central American Gem. Granada, Nicaragua delights tourists with a myriad of contrasts; elegant, yet gruff; busy, yet meditative; majestic, yet humble. This small city on the coast of Lake Nicaragua is a new hot spot in Central America, offering a mix of old world style and new world flavor. The city, like the popular Antigua of Nicaragua or Havana, Cuba, is a preserved relic of a colonial city, complete with Spanish-style Cathedrals, wide central plazas and a streets of tile and wrought-iron covered homes. These traditional old world architectural details are featured on buildings in classic Latin and Caribbean hues; here, a house in peach, there, a restaurant in baby blue.

The main plaza in town features several fountains and is surrounded by tile-covered hotels and two cathedrals. Sitting in the plaza benches, one can observe the comings and goings of the local Granadians. A man walks buy pushing a ringing ice cream handcart. A woman sells tamales from a large basket carried on her head. An older gentlemen peels young green mangoes and sells them with pinches of salt. Buy a fresh papaya juice sold at a stand in the center of the square. When you’re done, take a horse-drawn carriage taxi for a trip around the city. These carriages wait at the periphery of the park, carrying both tourists and locals to their destinations.

On the small cobbled city streets, boys play baseball with a stick. A horse pulls a wagon filled with construction materials. Few tourists are seen, though there are a number of services available for visitors. Small hotels line the streets, many offering rooms for less then twenty U.S dollars a night. This is an easy place to arrive with no reservations, as hotels are still slow to fill up. Restaurants of a variety of styles can be found, from casual lunches offered in the kitchen of a local woman to high-end four star cuisine. Spanish, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, French, and traditional Nicaraguan food can all be found in this surprising, enjoyable city. Granada is a highly recommended stop in any Central American journey.
