podcast is an exclusive conversation with the author recorded October 7th,
2006 in Victoria,
British Columbia, Canada.

About the Book:
On New Year’s Eve in 1997, Bob McIntosh was murdered
while trying to break up a teenagers’ party at a friend’s house. His wife, Katy,
was left a widow with four-year-old twins. In the midst of her grief, and with
remarkable courage and grace, Katy began an amazing journey of forgiveness. She
recognized the need to educate teens about the risks arising from the
combination of youth, alcohol and lack of supervision. She began speaking to
schools and other groups about social responsibility, restorative justice and
the transformative power of forgiveness.

Katy waited for five years while the police uncovered and
convicted Bob’s killers. Ryan Aldridge was charged with Bob’s murder in 2002.
Astoundingly, Katy reached out to Ryan, and they have since forged a powerful
and unique relationship. Ryan has now joined Katy in her speaking engagements,
and Katy supported his recent successful appeal for early parole.

Walking After Midnight is the extraordinary story
of a life interrupted by unthinkable tragedy, and of Katy’s commitment to
turning the horror into a transformative gift. It offers a means for all of us
to embrace fully the concepts of forgiveness and restorative justice.

.............
The podcast runs
23:00 minutes. It is attached to this feed, or you can also <A

the Pieces; Moving Forward after Surviving Cancer
, by Sherri Magee, PhD, and Kathy Scalzo,
MSOD.

There are over 11 million cancer
survivors in North America, and every year doctors diagnose one million new
cases. Most survivors emerge disoriented and scarred. The side
effects are not only physical: emotional and financial instability, changed
relationships and spiritual questions leave many feeling overwhelmed.
Survivors speak of feeling fragmented, of needing to 'pick up the pieces' of
their lives once the struggle with cancer is over.

Practical,
reassuring and informative, Picking Up the Pieces
is based on years of research and
interviews with hundreds of survivors. The authors guide survivors through
a unique process with daily practices that build a bridge from hospital to home
and beyond.

This podcast, the 4th from
Raincoast Books, features authors Sherri Magee and Kathy Scalzo, talking about

Reviews
“Early in my career as an oncologist, I would
enthusiastically proclaim ‘your cancer is controlled. You’re back to normal.’ My
patients oriented me to the understanding that you never return to the ‘old
normal’ after cancer, and that healing is about creating the 'new normal.' Magee
and Scalzo provide essential directions for navigating the course between the
old and the new normal, and for living well after cancer.” —Simon Sutcliffe,
clinical oncologist and President, BC Cancer Agency

“My characters reveal that Canadians can be just as
despicable as our American counterparts; I want to provide a ‘warts and all’
perspective, or as my grandfather said, ‘plenty of drugs, sex, strippers and
violence.” – Nathan Sellyn

Indigenous Beasts is a collection of short stories from
this young new writer.
He’s an extraordinary storyteller, and these
stories are raw and seething, intense with despair and depravity. They are
bloody and beautiful and full of wisdom, and their pathetic heroes struggle
towards some unattainable and off-kilter moral standard.

Raincoast Books - Podcast Edition 2 - Indigenous Beasts by Nathan Sellyn

Indigenous Beasts is a collection
of short stories from Nathan Sellyn.
This podcast is an introduction to
Nathan. We'll be featuring a full length interview next week, available
here.

About the book:
Indigenous
Beasts is a chilling collection of stories from Nathan Sellyn — an extraordinary
storyteller and a bold, young writer whose work is energetic, shocking and
disturbing. These stories glimpse into the lives of young men who are
intriguing, seductive and sometimes despicable, and are lost in their efforts to
make sense of their relationships, both with women — girlfriends, mothers,
strippers — and men — fathers, co-workers, dealers. These stories are raw and
seething, intense with despair and depravity. They are bloody and beautiful and
full of wisdom, and their pathetic heroes struggle towards some unattainable and
off-kilter moral standard.

The Highest Tide, Jim Lynch, introduction

Raincoast Books is proud to present a special podcast
with Jim Lynch, author of The Highest Tide.

The Highest Tide tells the story of thirteen-year-old
Miles O’Malley who lives on Puget Sound and knows everything there is to know
about the sea and its creatures. When he becomes the first person to sight a
live giant squid he is hailed as some sort of prophet. The media descend and
everyone wants to hear what Miles has to say. But Miles is just a self-described
“increasingly horny, speed-reading thirteen-year-old insomniac” who navigates
the mysterious world of adults as the strange events continue over the summer,
culminating in the highest tide in 100 years.

This is a clip from the forth-coming podcast.

Jim's podcast was created in Vancouver during the
Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival. Find out more about
Jim' book at http://www.raincoast.com/highest-tide/index.html.
