Ex-Warrant singer Jani Lane dead at 47

Jani Lane -- former lead singer of the rock band Warrant -- was found dead at a hotel in L.A. Thursday evening ... TMZ has learned.

Lane's body was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, CA. So far, no official cause of death has been released.

Investigators found a half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication in the hotel room where Jani Lane died yesterday ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us paramedics were called to the Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, CA yesterday around 5:15 PM. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

We're told Lane's death is being treated as an accidental overdose or a possible death from natural causes.

Jani Lane Tribute Show Planned for August 29
A tribute show is being planned for late rockerJani Lane of Warrant fame. Lane passed away last Thursday, August 11th, at a hotel in Woodland Hills, California. He was 47.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, as toxicology reports have not been returned. Lane had a long history of alcohol abuse throughout his life.

Several bands from the '80s era of glam/hard rock, such as Great White, Quiet Riot andEnuff Z'nuff, are planning to come out for a memorial show celebrating Lane's life, legacy and work. The free show will take place at the Key Club in Hollywood on August 29th. Fans and friends are invited to come out and enjoy what is sure to be a celebration of all things Jani Lane.

Behemoth Frontman Nergal Found Innocent Of Blasphemy Charges In Poland
According to The Associated Press, Behemoth frontman Adam "Negal" Darski was found innocent today in a Polish court, after being on trial for ripping pages out of a Bible and labelling it, "a deceitful book" at a concert in 2007. He was being charged for the crime of insulting religious feelings, an offense which can carry a sentence of two years imprisonment in the predominantly Catholic country of Poland. Darski was cleared of the charges when he explained that the show where the tearing took place was a closed event in which only those who had purchased tickets attended and knew what to expect, a statement held up when questioned audience members stated that they were not offended by Darski's actions or comments.

When Nergal tore up a Bible at a show in Poland in 2007, calling it a "book of lies," it offended people... and their religious feelings. Nergal went one step further than pop star Sinead O'Connor, who famously tore up a picture of the Pope while performing on 'Saturday Night Live' in 1992, sending religious zealots into a frenzy. Nergal also called the Catholic Church the "most murderous cult on the planet" and was then sued by the All-Polish Committee For Defense Against Sects for his actions.

However, Judge Krzysztof Wieckowski said that such an action is a form of artistic expression the remains consistent with Behemoth's style, sound and ethos. The judge also said that the court had no intention of limiting freedom of expression or the right to criticize religion.

Nergal was actually found innocent of the same charge earlier this summer, but the case came back around again based on a prosecutorial appeal.

Five Reported Dead At Pukkelpop Festival
Five people have now been reported dead after a torrential storm hit the Pukkelpopp festival and brought an enormous stage down.

The festival, which is held near Hasselt, Belgium had bands such as Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying, Deftones, Within Temptation, Suicidal Tendencies and Your Demise on the bill.

The storm hit the festival site causing rigging to collapse, giant screens to fall and trees to be uprooted. The rest of the event has now been cancelled by the organizers. In previous years, the festival has been headlined by Metallica and Iron Maiden.

It was the second consecutive year of tragedy for Pukkelpop. Last year, lead singer of the group Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Charles Haddon, committed suicide at the event.

BLACK SABBATH has not officially released any confirmation of reunion
The original lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward has officially reformed and have begun reheasing for an upcoming reunion tour and possible studio album.

According to Talkingmetal.net, Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward came to a decision 14 days ago to go ahead with the reunion, and this morning (Monday 15 August) the group convened in a secret rehearsal studio to begin to begin working on a live set - and what will hopefully be a new album.

I couldn’t say yes to this fast enough. Like I said in my Tweet, I’ve been wanting to do this my whole life. Motorhead Guitarist Michael 'Wurzel' Burston Dies at 61
Wurzel, who was with Motorhead for nine albums between 1985-1995, died on July 9 from ventricular fibrillation caused by heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy), at the age of 61. Kilmister's bass tech, Tim Butcher, broke the news on his Facebook page, also referring to Wurzel as a "complete gent" and a "great guitarist, and writing "We will miss you."

On July 10 in Knebworth, England, Motorhead dedicated its Sonisphere Festival set "and our lives" to Wurzel. Drummer Mikkey Dee, meanwhile, told the Swedish newspaper Expressen that Wurzel "wrote damn good Motörhead riffs. I remember that I missed that when he was not there. I missed the simple classic Motörhead riffs. They were never written after that. They left with him. He was wonderful, he was really funny. There was a lot of rock and roll in the old man."

"We are greatly saddened to confirm that our long-time friend and comrade Würzel died Saturday at his home. Würz was pouring a Guinness and cracking a joke when he succumbed to a heart attack; at least we know he went with a smile.

"It is a cliché to say that words cannot describe how we feel, and in this case, other than ones such as 'shit' and 'awful' and 'very, very sad,' it is true, they really can't. We all shared many many great times together, and what he did for MOTÖRHEAD is quite simply indelible.

"As our good friend Steve 'Krusher' Joule said, 'RIP, dear Würzel, a rocker and a gentleman.'"

MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister added: "Wurzel was my friend and my brother and he's never going to laugh with me again or bitch me out or do….anything. And that truly and cosmically SUCKS.

"RIP Wurz. Godspeed. Good man."

Former X JAPAN / LOUDNESS Bassist Taiji Sawada dies after suicide attempt
BW&BK confirmed yesterday (July 17th) that former X JAPAN and one time LOUDNESS bassist Taiji Sawada has died following a suicide attempt on July 14th. Sawada was arrested on July 11th "for interference with a flight attendant" due to an incident on a plane en route from Japan to Saipan. He was reporedly facing federal charges in the US for the incident. On July 14th , Sawada was taken to an intensive care unit after attempting suicide by hanging himself, thus delaying his court appearance.

Following is a report from Ferdie de la Torre at the Saipan Tribune:

Japanese musician and songwriter Taiji Sawada, who was arrested Monday, July 11th when he became unruly aboard an airplane, was taken to the hospital after he allegedly tried to commit suicide while inside his detention cell Thursday night.

Police Commissioner Ramon Mafnas confirmed yesterday that Sawada was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center and was placed under observation in the intensive care unit.

Mafnas said more details will be provided to the media after Sawada's family is notified, through the Japan Consular Office, about the incident.

Saipan Tribune learned from sources at DPS that the 45-year-old Sawada was rushed to the hospital after he tried to hang himself using a bed sheet. Because of the incident, Sawada failed to show up at his scheduled detention hearing yesterday morning at the U.S. District Court for the NMI.

Sawada is facing charges of interfering with the performance of a flight attendant. Sawada allegedly became unruly as the aircraft was descending in preparation for landing at the Saipan International airport on Monday. He allegedly punched the plane's window, kicked the seat in front of him, and assaulted a flight attendant

Sawada, who was in the business class cabin, had reportedly become angry with a female passenger and started punching the window and kicking the seat in front of him. The report did not mention what caused his anger and whether Sawada and the passenger were related

Coheed and Cambria Bassist Arrested on Robbery Charges, fired from band
According to police in Attleboro, MA ... Todd showed a pharmacist a cell phone note that said he had a bomb and demanded Oxycontin. He made off with six bottles of pain pills and fled via taxi.

But police say he was spotted in the cab and police were able to track it via the dispatcher ... to the Comcast Center where Coheed and Cambria were set to open up for Soundgarden.

Police said Todd was arrested without incident after he was identified by the cab driver, the pharmacist and by store surveillance video.

Todd was arraigned in court on Monday, July 11th. In case you missed the headlines and the hoopla, prior to a gig opening for Soundgarden, Todd held up a drugstore, claiming he had a bomb. He grabbed six bottles of the popular (and addictive) painkiller Oxycontin, hopped in a cab and headed to the Comcast Center for the show. He never made it to the stage, as he was arrested after cops tracked the cab.

Todd was charged with robbery and unlawful possession of prescription drugs and
on Monday when he appeared in Attleboro District Court, where the charges against him
were read. He did not enter a plea and his bail was increased to $25,000. It was initially set for only $10,000, reports the Sun Chronicle newspaper of Attleboro. Todd must return to court to answer the charges on August 9th.

Coheed and Cambria have temporarily replaced Todd as they continue their tour dates.

Ex-Queens of the Stone Age Guy -- S.W.A.T. Standoff
TMZ has learned ... cops were called to the home of 39-year-old Nick Oliveri after a neighbor called 911 to report a "disturbance" between the rocker and his girlfriend.

Sources close to the couple tell us ... Nick's GF told police the rocker struck her during an argument the day before ... and she had come back to the home to collect her stuff so she could move out. That's when the two got into another heated argument ... and Nick locked themselves inside the duplex.

When cops arrived, Oliveri -- who played bass with the Queens for years before parting ways with the group -- refused to allow cops inside the residence ... and would not let his girlfriend leave.

A S.W.A.T. team was called to the scene -- and a standoff ensued. After two hours, Nick finally agreed to let his GF exit the duplex ... and two hours after that, he gave himself up without further incident.

When cops searched the home, we're told they found one high powered rifle -- which was FULLY LOADED.

Oliveri was booked on felony domestic violence. He has since been released after posting $100,000 bail.

FOZZY's Bus 'Trashed' In Road Accident; Denmark Show Canceled
FOZZY frontman and WWE wrestling superstar Chris Jericho has issued the following update in a series of messages of his Twitter profile:

"Last night as I was riding on the ANTHRAX bus, FOZZY's bus was in an accident. The band is OK, thank God, but the bus is trashed [see photo below] so we won't be able to play the show [at Voxhall in Århus] Denmark tonight [Tuesday, July 12]. Hamburg is still on for tomorrow. It's a miracle nobody got hurt, as the bus skidded on two wheels for 50 feet and the side door was completely torn off. Say a prayer for the boys and stay tuned for more info."

Commented Chris: "All of us in the FOZZY family are relieved and blessed that nobody was seriously hurt in the accident. What makes things even crazier is that I was discussing the bus crash that took the life of my hero,METALLICA's Cliff Burton, with the ANTHRAX guys at roughly the same time the members of my own band were experiencing almost the same thing. Thankfully, the results of our crash were much better."

Officials are closely monitoring minor injuries sustained by two of the band members as the tour is scheduled to continue tonight (Wednesday, July 13) in Hamburg, Germany.

"The show must go on and we are happy that even though some of us are shaken up, our show in Hamburg will take place. We dodged a huge bullet last night for sure though," Jericho said.

Life of Agony Frontman Gets Sex Change, Band Plays Final Shows
Life Of Agony are expected to play what are rumored to be their final shows together this weekend overseas. The performances may be particularly eye opening for fans who haven’t kept up with the group as of late, as frontman Keith Caputo has fully embraced his choice to be a pre-op transexual.

He wrote on Twitter.com/KeithMinaCaputo: “Male to female transsexuals like me are the women who give up male privilege for femininity! Threaten the patriarchy!” He also responded to a question from a fan about the demise of the metal band by replying: “Life Of Agony has already gone into isolation and it’s got nothing to do with me transitioning [to a woman].”

While initial rumors had been suggesting that Caputo had undergone gender reassignment surgery, he has since confirmed to Metalinsider.net (who apparently forgot to credit ThePRP for the original story…) that as he put it, “I’m keeping my penis!”

Life of Agony is rumored to play its final shows as a band in Europe this weekend, which follows the alleged sex reassignment surgery of frontman, or frontwoman, Keith Caputo.

GWAR bassist Casey Orr (a.k.a. Beefcake The Mighty) has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"After much soul searching and consideration, and with a heavy heart, I am announcing my departure from GWAR (yes, again). I simply can no longer devote the time and effort required to maintain my position within the group. I have so many projects going on now in Texas, including a new RIGOR MORTIS record in the works, that it just wouldn't be fair to everyone involved for me to stay and not be able to give 100%. I'll miss the insanity and playing with my brothers, but I have to do what's right for me right now.

GWAR Singer Oderus Urungus Quietly Kicked Off of Fox News Red Eye
Since the dawn of GWAR, the band has been making statements about politics by decapitating replicas of politicians during their live shows.
Now, after performing the act on a prop version of Sarah Palin during their last tour, lead singer Oderus Urungus is no longer able to appear on Fox News’ Red Eye, hosted by Greg Gutfeld, because of negative backlash from right wing conservatives.
Urungus turned to his Twitter page to seek support from his fans.
He tweets:
“I got canned because Sarah Palin complained that we disemboweled her. The nerve of that woman!”

JAG PANZER call it quits
After more than three decades of delivering heavy metal to the masses, Colorado power metallers JAG PANZER have decided to call it quits.

"We are proud of every album we released and the support we've received from the heavy metal community," states guitarist and founder Mark Briody. " We've played so many places around the world and enjoyed every minute of it but the time has come where we just cannot move forward as a band.".

Guitarist Christian Lasegue left the band last month to pursue his degree full time.

"Christian did an amazing job on 'The Scourge Of The Light' and it was a pleasure working with him," continues Briody. "We wished Christian well but kept this quiet until we found a replacement."

Drummer Rikard Stjernquist says, "Several guitar players applied for the job. It was a pleasant surprise to see so many young guitarists with advanced chops. One player, 19-year-old Jake Dreyer, submitted videos of him nailing solos from both Chris Broderick and Christian Lasegue. We were ready to welcome Jake into the band, but, unfortunately, that will not happen. There is no doubt in any of our minds that Jake will go on to be a household name in his own right."

EPICA Singer To Perform With KAMELOT On Entire North American Tour
Singer Simone Simons of Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA will joinKAMELOT on their upcoming North American tour, which kicks off on August 26 and wraps on September 23.

Simone — the longtime girlfriend of KAMELOT keyboardist Oliver Palotai— previously appeared on the song "The Haunting", which was included on KAMELOT's 2005 album "The Black Halo", and on the band's newest ballad, "House On A Hill", as well the title track of KAMELOT's latest album, 2010's "Poetry For The Poisoned". She has also made a number of live appearances with the group, including on KAMELOT's recent South American and European tours.

Sebastian Bach to Be Tested for Rabies After Bar Incident
...the Canadian rocker has been court-ordered to get tested for rabies.

The unusual demand is the result of an arrest last November at Riley's Old Towne Pub in Bach's hometown of Peterborough, Ontario, where Bach was charged with assault and accused of biting bar owner Jim Kakouros. He was also charged with possession of 2 grams of marijuana and mischief.

"Right now, where that court case stands in Peterborough, it's over and done with," Bach tells Noisecreep. "I just have to go to the doctors and get a clean bill of health because the guy that I bit wants to make sure that I don't rabies. There's my life [laughs]."

BEHEMOTH's Nergal Back In Court In Bible-Tearing Case
BEHEMOTH vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski was present for a hearing this morning (Wednesday, June 29th) at the District Court in Gdynia, Poland, accused of insulting religious feelings at a concert in 2007 when he tore up the Bible, calling it "a book of lies".

Wiadomosci.wp.pl reports: Darski, testifying as a witness, confirmed that the incident took place with the Bible. He remarked, however, that the concert at which it occurred, was a closed event / ticket. He added that the band depends on the fact that their concerts do not infringe on "outsiders who do not understand the message and may mistakenly understand it."

He added that according to his knowledge none of the several hundred people present at the concert said they felt offended by the act. Offended were the people who were not at the concert, who do not understand the context and the media, said Darski.

METALLICA made an album with LOU REED
A few months ago our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that's "not really 100 percent a Metallica record." While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed.

Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together. Some of you astute Bay Area residents may have picked up news of recent Lou Reed sightings in the greater San Francisco area and we have indeed been working at our home studio at HQ on and off over the last few months. In whttp://www.facebook.com/titariushat would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.

A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou's work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers. William Shatner wins “Honorary Headbanger” award
Actor William Shatner received the Honorary Headbanger Award at the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which were held on April 20th in Los Angeles. Today, Noisecreep has a clip of Shatner accepting his award, complete with a brief profanity-laced speech. The broadcast of the full show airs on VH1 Classic this Saturday, May 28th at 10 p.m.

Former Iron Maiden Singer Paul Di'anno Released From Jail
Paul Di'anno, the former singer for British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden as well as such bands as Killers and Battlezone, has been released from jail after serving two months for benefit fraud.
He is currently planning to embark on a headlining tour entitled, "Running Free Again." A message from the singer reads as follows:

"I was talking to a guy who had been diving in Guadeloupe and there were some divers there who just been playing music in the water," Waller said.
"We got talking and they said yes there were some certain songs that worked and certain songs that didn't in terms of an actual change in the behaviour of the sharks.
"I started going through my albums and ACDC was something that really hit the mark.
"Their behaviour was more investigative, more inquisitive and a lot less aggressive - they actually came past in a couple of occasions when we had the speaker in the water and rubbed their face along the speaker which was really bizarre."

Rock of Ages begins filming
Rehearsals are over, the cast's in place (and yes, Alec Baldwin is sticking with the project), and New Line Cinema's announced principal photography has begun on Rock of Ages. The big screen adaptation of the successful Broadway musical is being directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), with Chris D'Arienzo adapting his musical.

The Rock of Ages cast includes Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Mary J Blige, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Alec Baldwin. Diego Boneta will be making his feature film debut with a starring role in Rock of Ages.

Hough plays a small town girl, Boneta is a city boy, and the two meet on Sunset Strip where they're both pursuing their "Hollywood dreams." The musical features rock numbers by Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, and Whitesnake.

Filming is currently underway in Florida. New Line's set a June 1, 2012 release date.

Stone Sour’s Roy Mayorga suffers a stroke following a gig in Des Moines, IA
STONE SOUR canceled the rest of its current tour dates after Roy was hospitalized. The band said in a statement, “It is with regret that we have decided to cancel the remaining dates on our current headline tour. Our friend and drummer, Roy Mayorga, suffered a minor stroke a couple of nights ago after our show in Des Moines. He’s doing great and is expected to make a 100% recovery. We apologize to all the fans and look forward to getting back out on the road with Roy in the coming months.”

Former Legion Of The Damned Bassist Twan Fleuren Commits Suicide
Dutch death/thrash metal outfit Legion Of The Damned has announced that their former bass player, Twan Fleuren has commited suicide. The details of his death have not yet been revealed. Twan Fleuren was at the beginning of the succes of Legion Of The Damned and recorded with the band the album "Elegy For The Weak" with Andy Classen in 2003, that was later re-released under the name "Feel The Blade" in 2007, as well as the recording of "Malevolent Rapture" in 2004, which was released in 2006.

Indian metal band The Down Troddence has released the official music video for the song "Shiva." Check out the video, which was directed by KS Hashim, below:
Storyline: The music video depicts the story of Raavana's penance for Lord Shiva's blessing. Angry at Shiva's silence, Raavana goes to Kailasa and plays this shloka with a veena made out of his intestine. The video also shows Pottan Theyyam(an art form which tells the story between Sankaracharya and Lord Shiva). It briefs the meeting of Lord Shiva disguised as Pulayan (down trodden) with the intention to further test Sankaracharya's knowledge who is proud of himself and about to ascend "Sarwanjha Peedam" (throne of knowledge).

"After surviving the Russian tour here follows some updates from the band: A second EP containing 4 new songs will be released in the end of this summer/early autumn. We are also at the moment planning for some gigs in the summer in Finland.

TWISTED SISTER singer Dee Snider has issued a statement on behalf of his wife Suzette (Vinny Gargiulo's sister) as well as the entire Gargiulo and Snider families on the announcement of the verdict in the trial of the man who ordered Mr. Gargiulo's killing. Christian Tarantino was busted in September 2008 for three murders, including the 2003 killing of Vincent Gargiulo.

Accept Guitarist Breaks Ribs After Fall On Stage
ACCEPT were forced to play as a four-piece during their concert in Houston, Texas this past Saturday, May 7 after the band’s guitarist, Herman Frank, suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung in a stage fall the previous night in San Antonio. Herman fell backwards during the song “Bulletproof” and will miss the remaining dates of ACCEPT’s “Blood of the Nations” Tour 2011.

Peter Baltes explains: “Unfortunately, Herman had an accident during last night’s show in San Antonio. He tripped and landed hard on his back. Even though he managed to finish the show, his pain became unbearable as we arrived in Houston. He was taken to the emergency room, where the doctors discovered four broken ribs and a punctured lung. He will remain at the hospital for now. Considering his condition, his spirit is great, and we all need to give our support to him as he recovers from his injuries. In the meantime, the band will continue the tour, and Herman will rejoin us as soon as he is all healed up and good to go.” The band is now on their way to South America for the final leg of the tour.

Northwest Metalfest was a studio compilation album as well as a live showcase, with the bands vying for a record deal. Featured in the video is a pre-label METAL CHURCH; this was the gig that got them signed. Also appearing in the band SATO is the late bassist Mike Starr from ALICE IN CHAINS.

Touted as the "U.K.'s first holographic 4D rock gig," this will actually be Cooper's second time breaking a record in holographic form -- in 1973, avant-garde artist Salvadore Dali turned Cooper's likeness into the world's first 3D holographic sculpture. If you're wondering, no, R2-D2 didn't do a similar thing with Princess Leia until four years later. And that one took place in a galaxy far, far away.

The concert, billed as the Jagermeister Ice Cold Event, is timed in conjunction with Cooper's new box set, 'Old School: 1964 - 1974,' and to celebrate, Cooper even put his old band back together. It'll be the first time that band appears -- in the flesh or otherwise -- live in the U.K. since 1972. The event takes place on May 11 at Battersea Power Station.
