I was at Fight Comedy at Blu Jazz last night and they used LL Cool J’s classic “Mama Said Knock You Out” to introduce the comedians. Just hearing the beats brought back some good memories, though the comedy stuff was only so-so.

And kids… this is what good hip hop used to be: tough, gritty but never crass.

I just stood up at my desk at work and clapped for Manny Tan.

I was extremely sad to hear the passing of Hillman Curtis. He was a colossal inspiration to me (and surely to many others) in the late 90s and early 2000s with his phenomenal work on Flash and his film work later on. He was a mentor through his books and the brightest beacon of optimism through his constant creative reinventions.

Goodbye, sir… you will not be forgotten.

Kampong Bugis today is not a kampung anymore and in fact, up to the late 90s, the old Kallang Gas Works was right next to it. From what I can remember, Kampong Bugis is now home to a scattering of factory buildings, a Hindu temple, a park and a nice cafe frequented by the cool kids.
