Since we are so used to this word being used for YouTube videos or frankly anything that spreads like a disease over the Internet, we forget that this word actually means, “of or pertaining to a virus,” as in “an ultramicroscopic (20 to 300 nm in diameter), metabolically inert, infectious agent that replicates only within the cells of living hosts, mainly bacteria, plants, and animals: composed of an RNA or DNA core, a protein coat, and, in more complex types, a surrounding envelope.” Whew!

Other words that top this list are: “epic,” “fail,” “refudiate,” “wow factor,” and thankfully, “Mama Grizzlies.” There were 14 words in all that were voted to be banned from the English language. You can see all of them here.

This got me thinking, what words would I vote for? Definitely “OMG” as in “oh, em, gee.” I am so sick of that term, I get nauseated at the possible use of it. I would also add “cougar,” “hottie,” and “so” specifically used like this, “I am so not going to the store right now.”

There is a huge scam that is going on now right before our eyes. We see it. We want it to stop. We complain about it, but we do nothing about it because we believe there is nothing we can do.

Because the trolls are siphoning our money, they can be effective in swaying our politicians to support things that give the trolls more money, because there is never enough to fill their greed.

What the f*ck am I talking about here? Let me give you three examples that I’ve witnessed over the past decade that make me believe to core of my being that we are all completely insane:

“The Pentagon has publicly acknowledged that it has sent $8.2 Billion dollars through contracts into Iraq sometimes in pallets of cash, with no record keeping or accounting. That includes $68 Million to the UK,  $45 Million to Poland, $21 Million to Korea, yet auditors were unable to say why payments had been made.”

War time contractors are being paid MORE than U.S. soldiers for doing the SAME jobs. What does that say to our soldiers? It says your patriotism and integrity don’t matter for sh$@t.

U.S. Government contract funds are being sent to local firms for security, such as in Afghanistan where 95% of private security contractors are local nationals. Money from the government flows to big firms for the contracts, then it goes to sub-contracts because the big firms outsource security locally, and a lot of that money goes right into the pockets of the Taliban. WTF?!?!

YES, this is happening now.

We allowed financial institutions to make bets on loans which was called, “Credit Default Swaps,” that allowed brokers to sell insurance on a defaulted loan. Sounds okay but then who owns the unpaid loan? Well, as long as more people got loans they would be paid for…BUT what if people got loans they couldn’t pay back? Then you have a financial crisis.

Basically, we legalized gambling. And we were the putzes, the idiots if you will, who bought these bad loans and who willingly took the risk. They couldn’t find any more of us idiots to buy the loans so they ran out of money.

Back in the 1920′s Wall Street attempted to create “side bets” that would generate more income. An early version of credit default swaps. But then someone within the Federal Government thought it would be a bad idea to let Wall Street gamble, so they made it illegal.

Everything seems to go smooth until the 1990′s when Wall Street came up with a new innovation: credit default swaps. Insurance is legal, so why wouldn’t insurance for bad loans be legal? That’s all well and good but if you make bad bets and if there is no money to cover defaulted loans…you run out of money. So does the rest of the world.

What did we do? We gave them MORE money. It’s like giving a gambling addict an “intervention” by giving him or her more money to gamble with. WTF?!?!

Now Wall Street is back in business and they’re blaming consumers for the crisis. If we hadn’t taken loans that we couldn’t afford to pay back, this would have never happened. True. HOWEVER, swindling people out of money by cloaking a bad gambling scheme may have also been to blame. What has happen since “No Child Left Behind” is schools have been turned into testing factories. Why? Because the better schools do on tests, the more money they get. That’s the theory.

That means every ounce of resources go toward making sure kids do better on tests. Stuff like art, science, music, and interactive learning get cut because the students have to practice tests to do well on them.

What happens though when the kids don’t do well on the tests, even though we’re training them to take tests? Damn. Schools don’t get money, kids don’t get educated, and then the government cuts education funding. And it’s all the teachers’ fault.

I hate money. I detest the fact that you have to actually “manage” it because I think money should just manage itself. For this reason, I am not the family money manager. The problem is, neither is The Hubby.

He pays the bills and makes sure there is enough in our account to cover our expenses, but that’s about it. We do not have a budget and if we did, we probably wouldn’t stick to it. We wouldn’t overspend either. Somehow both me and The Hubby seem to sense when it’s time to cut back and we’re good about sticking to it until more money comes in.

Since I’m a freelance writer for a living, I do have to keep track of my income and expenses for Mr. Taxman. I like this about as much as I like root canals. It’s something I have to do or else I’m going to be in a world of hurt if I don’t. For the rest of our tax stuff, we outsource it. We could probably do it ourselves but we’re just too lazy.

• Put money into a savings account each month with automatic deductions.

That’s it. Even the laziest person could do what we’ve done. You don’t even have to be a bean counter or a control freak by keeping track of every penny spent. Suze would be gasping at this point I’m sure. If you just take care of a few simple things, you should be okay. Notice the world “should” because I’m not a money manager by any stretch.

You try to set down plans and milestones for reaching certain goals and then life seems to take on a life of its own. I know that sounds redundant, but it’s true. I was attempting to achieve the following goals when my muse took off:

The problem with this one was that I had no controversy to write about. I blame Britney Spears for getting her act together and appearing to be normal. I blame my muse too.

Some great ideas were submitted by a few of you, but I wasn’t feeling particularly stupid. I just felt mostly lame. For this, I also blame my muse.

This one is just plain my fault. I got the idea for my novel when my muse took off on her cruise to Mexico. Yes, I need her but it was her absence that sparked an idea which doesn’t seem all that bad.

The blame for my failing at this goal falls on Starbucks. Those damn sugar-laden drinks of caffeine goodness keep beckoning me back from my workouts. It doesn’t help that muse drinks like 5 Starbucks drinks a day! She’s supposed to be helping me! BTW, if you have an iPhone, check out this app: Lose It! I actually lost 3.5 lbs in two weeks using it, but it doesn’t work if you don’t use it…hence why I gained all the weight back.

So, that’s it. Here you have all my reasons for failing at my goals for 2011. I know there’s still like 11 months to go and I can still totally reach these goals. That’s why I’m beginning once again. I had to buy a $500.00 Starbucks Gift Card for my muse to get her to stick around for a while. The things you have to do today to keep your muse happy! Geez!

Where have I been? Well, let’s just say that muses get a little upset when you stop paying attention to them due to the holidays and visiting In-Laws. I have no time for such non-sense. My job is to inspire and make dreams come true. What do I care about responsibilities?

I simply had to take a vacation from Random Chick’s drama. I booked a trip aboard a lovely cruise ship filled with other abandoned muses. We went to Mexico and drank lots of tequila. One of the grand benefits of being a muse is that we don’t get hangovers, not like you mere mortals. We can drink like a thirsty horse and dance across the tables without the slightest care in the world. Although, we can have sensitive skin and I got a sun burn in one of the worst places ever! Word to all muses on vacation: nude sun worshiping on an aluminum foil blanket is not a good idea. No matter. I just drank 40 bottles of Jose Cuervo and I was fine!

Just when I was about to win the limbo contest though, Random Chick showed up all upset and stuff. She said she’d been looking for me for weeks. Serves her right for neglecting me after Thanksgiving! And gaining 25 lbs is no excuse! By the way, I have no idea how Random Chick got onto the cruise ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. That girl can be resourceful when she needs to be. Reluctantly, I put my arms around her and calmed her down. I should have thrown her overboard. But I’ve grown fond of her antics. When we docked at Puerto Vallarta, she somehow got us onto a tug boat back to the San Francisco Bay Area. Then she caught a case of Montezuma’s Revenge so that’s why I’m writing this post. Poor thing.

Let this be a warning to all writers, artists, and creative human beings everywhere. Do not neglect your muse. We will go on vacation for a long time until you learn your lesson. Muses are very high-maintenance and we need constant attention, kind of like anyone on a reality TV show but more useful. You do not want to get your muse upset or you will be very sorry.

I’d better go now and give Random Chick some more Pepto Bismo.

Meanwhile, Random Chick was getting really nervous, stressed, panicked so she just left too. She just ran out of the house in her Wonder Woman pajamas, her hair all disheveled, screaming, “Where did it go? I must find it! I must find it!” I hope she finds that muse sometime soon. She left me in charge.

Who am I? That’s a good question. It’s difficult to answer but let’s just say that most people call me Ack! I’m that thing you refer to when your life seems to meander aimlessly toward old age. You know, when the highlight of your day is drinking expensive coffee and watching “Dancing with the Stars.” You thought you’d be doing great, amazing, or stupendous things by the time you hit 40, but actually you drag your a@$ out of bed, hurry everybody out the door, throw back something that resembles food, and go sit in a Borg-like cubicle for eight hours a day. You keep doing this until your back or knees give out (whichever comes first) then you run to the doctor for a cure. He tells you that you have kidney stones and that you’re going to be in a world of hurt until they pass. Suddenly, you get excited when you hear that your favorite jeans now come with an elastic waistband.

Where am I going with all this drivel? Basically, I’m just trying to keep everybody off antidepressants until Random Chick returns with her muse. How am I doing so far? Don’t look at me like that! I don’t get paid to do this!! I do it out of the goodness of my heart, which has shriveled down to a raisin. You can just take your delusional, happy, happy, joy, joy attitude and hit the road! Right now I’ve got bigger problems on my hands. Like how I’m supposed to take care of Random Chick’s dull life while she’s gone. Not everyone can balance a mid-life crisis, perimenopause, dirty toilets, cat barf, boogers on the wall, and weed trees all at once but someone has got to do it.
