ART-Al Jazeera deal clarified, in part

Arab & Radio & Television (ART), the largest pay-TV broadcaster in the Middle East, has reportedly sold six sports channels to Qatar-based Al Jazeera’s sports division. The deal, as yet unconfirmed, could see a billion-dollar cash payment made to ART.

ProSiebenSat.1 to launch women’s channel

German television group ProSiebenSat.1 is planning a thematic channel for women. FemTV will launch in early 2010 as an advertising-financed free-to-air offer via cable and satellite.

ABS buys Mabuhay Satellite

Hong Kong-based Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) has bought Mabuhay Satellite Corp. (MSC), which is based in the Philippines. Terms were not revealed, and the agreement is subject to regulatory approval.

Eutelsat’s €1bn target for 2010

Eutelsat certainly pleased the market with its results on Friday. Morgan Stanley in a note to investors, said Eutelsat’s revenues were €10m ahead of the bank’s expectations. Moreover, the bank says that this trading year will see Eutelsat earn more than €1bn in revenues.

M6 Group has announced a 9.2% rise in its consolidated revenue for the third quarter compared with the same period of 2008, to reach €296m.

Echostar and TiVo still arguing

Last week was a mixed one for DVR operator TiVo in its long legal spat with satellite operator Echostar and related broadcaster Dish Network. TiVo has been seeking more than $1bn in royalty payments, and damages from the Echostar pair. The players were arguing their case in a US federal appeals court.
