In normal circumstances, there are two types of Hip-Hop show; the highly credible, almost hipster-esque act that is dripping with integrity and realness, and the high profile, commercially successful rapper, who typically targets a teenage crowd and fills the Three arena. Rae Sremmurd falls somewhere between the stools here, and it will be intriguing to see how the show sells.

For many, the group are a guilty pleasure. Hits such as No Flex Zone and No Type are annoyingly infectious, with the latter being a stalwart of urban clubs across the city. And therein lies the dilemma. Clubbers are notoriously hesitant when it comes to ticket sales. Put Rae Sremmurd on a club night and you have a sell-out event. As a stand alone concert, that remains to be seen. In any case, we’ll be there!

Date: Wednesday 16th December

Time: 7.00pm

However, it would appear this is in dispute, with the result that Prodigy is now suing his label, Universal Music, for taking cuts from his solo work.

Back in 1995, when Universal was BMG, Prodigy and Havoc signed a contract with the label under the alias of Mobb Deep. The agreement stated that they would give half of all profits to the label from its future music.

Prodigy says the contract did not contain provisions for his solo work, but despite this Universal is still taking 50 percent of the royalties from his music and song writing.

He is suing for $57,489; the money that he lost and attorney fees.

Not everyone is happy with the movie however, with the LAPD up in arms over how the force are portrayed in the movie. Dennis Zine of the Police Protective League, says “It’s a terrible time to release a movie like this. It adds fuel to the fire for hating cops.” adding that the officers are portrayed as “beating machines.”

Other officers have gone on record saying the movie will put LA officers at risk during a time when police-community relations are extremely tense across the U.S.A.

Irish audiences must wait almost another 2 weeks before the highest ever grossing music biopic reaches our shores, with August 28th penned for nationwide release.

The post “Straight Outta Compton” Tops U.S Movie Charts as LAPD Protest… Catch the Irish Release Dates first appeared on RapIreland.com - The Home of Hip-Hop and RnB in Ireland.

October 13th is the date to mark in the diary, with the location once again being Vicar Street in Dublin’s city centre. Tickets are a very reasonable €30, with all booking fees included, so it is likely that a large quantity will shift once the concert goes on sale this Friday (22nd May 2015)
