Tommy Tyler (Sons Phonetic) – The Golden Section [Free ep]

Next up in the ongoing series of Sons Phonetic solo releases is Tommy Tyler with The Golden Section – another free five track ep – produced, mixed and recorded by Mook.

The release follows on from Sammy Dozens’ Lucid Dream, which dropped back in April, and is the second of five eps scheduled for this year by the Sons crew.

A video for the ‘Déjà Vu‘ single was shot by Mobius Studios, which you can check out below. The ep also sees Tyler hook up with well regarded London emcee Tesla’s Ghost on closing track ‘New Dawn’.

Another supremely well crafted project from the SP boys. Plenty more on the way as 2013 rolls on. We will keep you updated as always.

And that is not to even mention the rapping itself. The Animators have put together a crisp, high impact video that matches the vocal delivery and buffers the group from the grimier, grittier stereotype that Irish Hip-Hop is often portrayed by. Dublin rapper CuCullen launches his new album “Myths&Legends” at The Twisted Pepper venue May 17th. Joining him on the night will be album guests Aido8 and CG. Spokesman. There will also be full support sets from Spekulativ Fiktion and DjJusMe. Physical copies of the album will be available to buy at the show. Myths&Legends is available to stream now in it’s entirety at Bandcamp.

Doors are at 8PM and admission is free.

Danny Brown to Play Dublin June 16th

Danny Brown has been announced for a once-off show at Dublin’s Sugar Club, in a booking that is set to make a lot of people very happy. Promoters Choice Cuts will bring the quirky, somewhat crazy Detroit rapper to the Dublin stage where fans can see his “Old & Reckless” up close and in person. Brown’s hi-energy live shows have become renowned in Hip-Hop circles and we certainly wouldn’t suggest you miss this opportunity to catch it for yourself

Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly of Kris Kross Dies Aged 34

Sad news has filtered in to us from Atlanta this morning that Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly of 90′s rap group Kriss Kross has died, aged just 34.

Rapper Chris Kelly, best known as a member of 90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, has died at age 34.

According to some local news outlets in Atlanta, Kelly was found in an unresponsive state in his home last night (Wednesday), and was subsequently declared dead.

Speaking in a statement, DJ Greg Street said:

“Sad to hear the loss of my lil homie, Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly. I met him and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith in ’93. Their song “Jump” had been #1 on the billboard charts for eight weeks. Everyone knows Kriss Kross for their music and the crazy way they used to dress, but once they started working with So So Def, they became family.

Kriss Kross just performed at the 20th anniversary of So So Def.

Around 7:45 I received a phone call from his cousin saying they had found Kelly at the house just 20 minutes earlier and he was unresponsive.

I just received confirmation that he has passed.”
