Thursday, Aug. 28 started off like any other day at Rasmussen College's Ocala campus, except it wasn't just any other day. Later that day, an armed robber would flee the scene at a gas station near the campus, causing a deadly car crash. The gunman would make his way into the campus-leading to a lockdown. The SWAT Team and dispatch center would be involved, and there would be casualties and a hostage situation. There would also be students learning more than they ever could've imagined. Luckily &amp;amp;#8230; this elaborate situation was only a staged scenario that took place on campus that day.

Like you, many adults are choosing to go back to school to gain the knowledge and skills they need to step into a new career field. Upon your decision to go back to school I'm sure you've notice the majority of your courses will focus on the programmatic area you chose to study; such as business, technology or criminal justice. And while these courses often receive the most attention during your time in school, you will also need to complete the necessary general education requirements in order to earn your degree.

More than 78 percent of eligible voters casted a ballot last election. Ritchie expects that number to grow this November with a record number of people voting. It's something Minnesotans can be proud of - yes, but Ritchie says he wants his state to be made up of educated voters.

The Most Memorable Commencement Speeches

If you were charged with instilling lasting, meaningful advice to college graduates as they head out to find their way in the world what would it be? That is the monumental task put on commencement address speakers at graduation ceremonies across the country. If you have ever sat through a graduation ceremony you know a commencement address either becomes the long, often boring, part you are forced to sit through before diplomas are handed out, or it is the voice and message that keeps ringing in your head long after the ceremony has ended.

You just say the words 'telecommute' or 'work from home' and people start to salivate. I mean, who wouldn't love to work in their pajamas and avoid rush hour traffic? That dream is a reality for 2.9 million Americans who consider their home their primary office, according to a study from the Telework Research Network. That trend is expected to grow with today's technology and the ability to stay connected from virtually anywhere. The same study found forty-five percent of the US workforce currently holds a job that is compatible with at least part-time telework.

You've done the class work, now it is time to show what you can do in the real world. One of the best bridges between the classroom and corporate America is an internship. Internships have gone from a highlight on your resume to a near essential these days. If you want to compete in a tough economy where more and more people are vying for fewer and fewer jobs you need to have at least one internship.

Growing up many of us envisioned the future to look much like the cartoon "The Jetson's," with computer's dominating nearly every aspect of our lives. Now that we are grown up, it appears that vision wasn't too far off and actually, even more sophisticated than many of us ever imagined. We have robotic vacuums, cars that drive themselves and apps for nearly everything under the sun. In addition to making our lives more convenient, technology has drastically changed the way we interact and communicate with each other.

Have you ever applied for a job you thought you'd be perfect for, only to never get called for an interview? If so, you are far from alone. Before you start letting it affect your self-confidence, rescan your resume. Often a resume is ruled out before the employer even sets eyes on it thanks to new scanning technology. The difference is all in the words you use. It's called resume keyword optimization, and it has become common practice these days. In fact, it is said that up to 80% of employers use this technology as a way to filter through the mountains of resumes they receive for each opening.
