In spite of its fame, Rioja is actually a small region by comparison. Other wine regions produce high-quality wines as well; however, not all of the wines produced in large quantities in other regions are anything to write home about. On the whole, when compared to the rest of the world, Spain dedicates the largest portion of its land to viticulture. Unfortunately, the white grape produced on the widespread airen vines results in wines that are somewhat disappointing to most wine lovers, but the reds produced in Rioja are excellent choices...

A Robust Red Wine Red Zinfandel wine is a classic American wine that many believe originally came from native California grapes. However, research has revealed that originally, the grape actually came from Croatia and became famous in Italy during the Roman Empire. The Zinfandel grape was first introduced in California in the early19th century and now grows mainly in California, an ideal climate, because the grape thrives in cool coastal locations.

California Zinfandels: A Red, Not to Be Confused with White Zinfandel Everyone enjoyed a vegetarian feast at Michelle & Alex's house this time around and there was not a dump cup to be found for these delectable red wines. And after the wine was tasted and revealed in all it's glory, the night deteriorated or escalated, depending on who you ask, to the basement for ping pong and more fun times with friends. And, here are the tasting results for our Red Zinfandels from California:

The Wine Delightfully spicy Pinot with essence of smoke and clove combining with dried fruits (raspberry, cranberry, red currant and rhubarb). A limited 184 cases of this tasty vintage were produced. The Vineyard Solomon Hills grapes were planet in 1999, with the first crop harvested 3 years later. Under the watchful eye of Bien Nacido, Solomon Hills has matured into a premier Pinot producer.

Generally the December event includes a lot more wine, white elephant gift swap games and good time with friends, and this year was no exception - including a surprise holiday wine - Hot Mulled Red Wine with an Ecuadorian recipe.
