I couldn&#8217;t get to a computer quickly to take care of it.</p> <p>One server is down and I&#8217;m not able to access it remotely but I swapped things around so that images are working normally. Uploading was still working during the time that the problem was happening, so if you uploaded images and they appeared to be blank, you should be able to see them now.</p> <p><del>There is still one thing that won't be working</del> (<em>all fixed!</em>) - blog screenshots on profile pages and screenshots on website source pages will be missing until the sad server is resuscitated. It&#8217;s not major but I thought I&#8217;d mention it since questions will probably come up. Google Groups recently dropped all support for pages so I thought that now would be a good time to do this. When you are editing a page, you&#8217;ll see the new options.</p> </li> <li> <p>We started up a group for developers who want to work with the Ravelry API to create mobile apps and other things that connect to Ravelry. I&#8217;ve got some documentation, sample code, all that.</p> </li> <li> <p>Searching your PDF library works a little better: it now searches the PDF file name, the pattern name, the designer name. Also, a new sidebar category has been added for eBooks.</p> </li> <li> <p>Some minor things: added an icon to the &#8220;editing&#8221; tab on flagged patterns and yarns so that it is obvious when a problem has been flagged, some search speed improvements, improvements to selection of search &#8220;keywords&#8221; so that you get nice results for terms that aren&#8217;t necessarily in a pattern name or description (especially themes like &#8220;halloween&#8221;), better sorting for the &#8220;all topics&#8221; view of forum search results</p> </li> <li> <p>A little less new: The photo uploader no longer requires Flash. Hopefully it has been working better or at least the same for everyone. A &#8221;+&#8221; icon will appear on images that you can magnify and you can either click the &#8221;+&#8221; or zoom in on a specific area by clicking directly on the image.</p> <p>This works with Flickr images as well as images uploaded to Ravelry. We reported the issue and gave them a little time to fix it before working around the problem ourselves. At 10:00 PM Eastern I moved Ravelry over to our backup Internet provider. We&#8217;ve never had to do this before so there may be a glitch or two but so far so good.</p> <p>Some people on some operating systems may still have the old IP address for www.ravelry.com cached - if someone you know is unable to get to Ravelry, rebooting will solve the problem.</p> <p>Thanks for being patient, everyone! Last month, we had to cancel Sarah and Mary-Heather&#8217;s trip to the UK because things were still uncertain (and airfare is expensive!) and now Casey and I aren&#8217;t going to be attending the event either. We received the first draft of our contract only recently and although we attempted to find a happy medium, in the end we were unable to resolve open issues in the contract to the satisfaction of both parties. As a result of these unresolved issues, it will be impossible for us to attend the event.</p> <p>Even though Knit Camp is coming up soon, we never had an agreement in place and nobody involved (including us!) should have led you to believe that that we were coming to the event and hosting talks and parties there when things were not settled and a contract was not signed. We did mention that we were planning on going a few times and we did have every intention of attending the event but since the Ravelry name was unofficially used again this year, it sounded like we&#8217;d surely be there. We&#8217;ve now learned that it is a very bad idea to announce that we&#8217;ll be at an event without a firm agreement in place and we&#8217;re really sorry if you feel misled or let down. We will definitely not make this mistake in the future.</p> <p>On a positive note, we&#8217;ve got our tickets and we&#8217;re getting on a plane to London bright and early tomorrow morning. We are still going to go to Scotland and we would love to see Ravelers while we are there. Once Knit Nation in London is over, we&#8217;re going to try to put together some sort of meetup or two. We&#8217;ll announce it as loudly as we can once our plans are sorted out - please keep any eye on this thread and on Twitter (@ravelry) for news. It might be bumpy for the first day or two. Next week, Jess and I are taking Ravelry to the UK for three weeks (YAY) so I really want to get this sorted before we leave, which means that we need to start trying it now.</li> <li>Don&#8217;t worry - I&#8217;m going to fix bugs as fast as I can. I&#8217;m sure a lot will come up in the first hour. I will make sure that everything important works and works well.</li> <li>A few things are going to be appearing over the hours after I put it up: more filters, flagging for mistakes, and adjusted information elsewhere in Ravelry (places where the old categories are displayed)</li> </ul> <p>We think that you&#8217;re all going to love it. This is a feature request that has been out there for a long time. From the &#8220;browse groups by location&#8221; link on the groups tab you can see nearby groups (this was there before, but is now improved) and search for groups by location.</p> <p>Group locations are estimated by looking at the membership and searching for the biggest concentration of members around a single point. We haven&#8217;t added any hardware since December and <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href='http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/for-the-love-of-ravelry/784907/1-25#2'>we&#8217;ve grown a lot</a> but I&#8217;m going to try and squeeze as much as possible out of the hardware that we do have.</p> <p>The database upgrade tonight is part of that. I&#8217;m hoping for some performance increases, but at the very least, the upgrade will bring more visibility and more low-level statistical information that will help me better understand what the biggest problem areas and bottlenecks are.</p> <p>Don&#8217;t forget - Rav will be down for 15 minutes during this maintenance. There is a countdown clock on the front page.</p> <p>I should also add that the number of concurrent users has gone up since school has started, sort of a double whammy.</p> <p><strong>edit - after</strong> I added in a few optimizations during the maintenance. There are still some bugs, but give it a try and see what you think. Reporting problems in the bug reports thread here would be helpful!</p> </li> <li> <p>You&#8217;ll see a mature content setting in the photos tab of your projects as well as the edit screen of groups. <strong>If you are a group moderator</strong> and your group is not appropriate for all ages - please edit and select the option.
