Folded Katana

There are many reasons why Katana are very special swords. One is; the Katana choose it's leader and not the other way round. This is my second Katana. I had my first Katana with 12 or 13. I had to sell it a few years ago. But I missed it big time. So it was time for a new one. I was looking in the internet for the right sword and had like 4 favourites. But I had to feel and see the swords in person. As I held them in my hands, none of them felt right. One was a red Katana, one looked almost like my old one and one was a Ninja sword, and I don't even remember the 4th one. They lookes all cool and beautiful. So the shop owner gave me one other Katana. I really liked it but it doesn't felt right. He said he has almost the same with an other tsuba. It's heavier and a really, really good sword. Much better as the other ones. So the Katana found me. It's like a bond. It sounds strange or ridiculous for some people; but as long you've never lead a Katana you won't understand.

I former times it was widely believed that some swords had a soul and live a life of their own and gave them therefore also personal names.

The Katana is the master of swords. It is the deadliest swords, ever. It's somehow almost holy. It's not just a weapon. It's an art form to handle this sword. It is art!

She just needs a proper name!

Edit: The Katana is very well balanced and survived some cutting tests. It is indeed a very nice sword. I already named it 影 (Kage) = Shadow.

The sword is hand-forged from carbon steel in the traditional way. The Damascus was folded 12 times. The blade is provided with a groove in order to reduce the weight. The Tsuka is made of wood, lined with authentic ray skin and black cotton wrapped. On handle two Mekugis (bamboo dowels) are attached. This Katana can be completely dismantled and is very sharp.

The sword is suitable for cutting exercises.

Commission for a work colleague. She's an admirer of Carmela Inauen; a Swiss painter, but cannot afford one of her original paintings, so she asked me if I could paint a similar painting. I am not copying Inauens style and won't make any further paintings like this. It's just to make someone happy. Acrylic on an old jute sack. 132 x 98 cm.

7" Munny made for a customer. He wanted a Samurai with 3 swords, a lotus wing and glowing eyes. I wanted to put an LED light in his head, but did not know how he could change the batteries or the lil bulbs. It was a bit too tricky.

Munny...... again... I know. They are addictive! Made from a 4" Munny. I named him Timmy cause he is obviously inspired by Tim Burton's characters. I love Burton's style. So, I named this wee guy Timmy to honour Tim Burton.

My absolutely favourite day is the 31. of October. Some call it Halloween some Día de los muertos (Day of the dead). It's the Mexican day to celebrate the dead as Samhain (or Halloween) for the Celts. I just love this day in any form from any country or culture. The sugar skull is also used a lot in New Orleans, one of the coolest places on earth! Anyway. I made this Sugar Skull Munny a few weeks ago but never found time to make some pictures, edit them and uplad them. It was about time. Enjoy!

This is my latest work the Black Sabbath "Never Say Die" Munny or how the famous US Tour-Shirt of 1979 came to life...
I know I should make much mre pictures, but I can't stop working on something to take picts. If I'm working on something, I just can't stop. Sometimes I work day and night on something. Just learned to take a break in the last few years. (I'm getting old and my eyes have to rest. lol)

I'm not quite satisfied with the end product. Maybe the next time.

This is a blank vinyl Munny from Kidrobot. Sorry for the poor picture. Trying out my "new" cam.

I chop his ears off and put some tape on it.

I sculped the head (helmet) wth sculping clay.

Again poor picture. :-( I made some finishing touch, let it dry and sand it a bit.

This is the end result from the back, with the devil logo.

End result from the front. I wanted to make a pictuer of the black primer, but I was too enthusiastic to stop painting. (Sorry!)

Just played around with Photoshop for fun. This is my french bulldog, Alan. Everyone calls him Batman, cause he has bat ears and he's black. Had this idea for a while, but I just adore his "sad"-face. Enjoy!

The Death - Munny

He has many names, the death. He's the Death, the Grim Reaper, Dark Angel, Angel Of Death, Archangel Samael, Azra'il (or Azrael), the ferry man, Santa Muerte, Yama... Here he is in all of his appearances.

I have a huge crush on the personification of the Death. He is not only the one who takes the lives he also escort the souls to the other side and is also the guardian of the gate to the other world.
I think it's a shame how people became afraid of this character. It was nothing unusual about the death in the past.
I sew his clothes and cape of an old sweater. The scythe is made of clay, painted with acrylics. And comes with a paper wing.

This 7" Munny was a commission. My customer said, he likes; skulls, clowns, monsters, Heath Ledger as Joker... I love the evil version of the Jester. I saw the end result while he was telling his list of things he likes. I had a few problems with this one. The tails split while the clay has dried. It was quite a tricky work. We don't have good sculping clay over here, so I have to struggle whatever I have. hope he'll enjoy his figure!

I know, it's quite a while ago. But I never found the time to upload these pictures from the zombie make-up or mask i di for my beatiful daughter for the Zombie walk she organised. There are two pictures taken by someone. I asked the photographer on facebook to use them over here but never get an answere. So I just use them and if the photographer find it, please tell me that I can use them. I will credit you for sure!

Anyway. my biggest dream was always to become a make-up artist like Stan Winston. He is one of my biggest idols. Sadly he died in 2008. I still would to love to work as a make-up artist and sculptor for film and/or theatre. This is just the greatest job ever!
