Fixing openFrameworks with Xcode 4, 4.5, and later versions

It sucks to waste a couple of hours going through forum threads which assumes you know things you actually don’t. If you have been facing problems with Xcode 4.5 not supporting 10.6 SDK, or QuickTime MacSetRect errors on 10.7 with Xcode 4.0, then this tutorial is for you.

This is a quick guide to fix openFrameworks problem with MacOSX 10.8 SDK (with screenshots)

1- download 10.6 SDK from here

2- place the unzipped folder in the SDKs folder in your Xcode package. in mac, the location should be: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/

3- launch the project you want to use MacOSX10.6 with. Click on the project on the sidebar to bring up the build settings, then click on All to see the Architectures tab.

4- Change the Base SDK to 10.6

5- Now click on Targets from the second column

6- Repeat step 4.

7- Click on the openFrameworks folder in the sidebar

8- Click on the project to bring up the settings

9- Repeat step 4.

10- Click on Targets and repeat step 4.

Here is a quick log of the past 52 hours of my life, just when I thought it can’t get stranger..

19Mar 22:45 Flight took off from Berlin to Beirut. During the flight, I continued preparing my talk for ArabNet.
20Mar 03:45 Flight Arrived at Beirut. (+1 time zone)
20Mar 04:30 I arrived at Hilton Hotel, a little too much luxury for my taste. I acted cool though.
20Mar 05:00 I slept.
20Mar 8:00 I woke up.
20Mar 9:45 I gave a talk, it was good. I spent the next 4 hours talking to people there then met some friends.
20Mar 15:30 Manicure & Padicure appointment.
20Mar 21:00 Dinner with a friend at an amazing Italian Restaurant.
21Mar 01:30 I slept.
21Mar 04:00 I woke up.
21Mar 06:30 Flight took off from Beirut to Istanbul.
21Mar 08:30 Flight arrived Istanbul. I spent two hours there, managed to call my mom and wish her a happy Mother’s day.
21Mar 10:30 Flight took off from Istanbul to Belgrade, where Resonate Media Festival is taking place.
21Mar 11:10 Flight arrived at Belgrade. (-1 time zone)
21Mar 11:30 I got denied access to Belgrade, apparently Serbia is not a part of the EU and Schengen Visa does not apply. Police took my passport.
21Mar 13:00 A decision is made to fly me —and the other two Brazilian people who were also coming to Resonate without visas— back to our countries of residence.
21Mar 14:30 A police officer walked me silently to the gate, they were sending me to Stuttgart. If you are not familiar with Germany, that’s pretty far from Berlin.
21Mar 15:00 Flight took off from Belgrade to Stuttgart.
21Mar 17:00 Flight arrived at Stuttgart. I spent an hour running between airlines trying to find a way to get back to Berlin.
21Mar 18:00 I discovered that the best way is to get the train, which was taking off in 7 minutes. I ran.
21Mar 18:07 I hopped on the train last second. serious. Stuttgart seems beautiful from the train’s window.
21Mar 18:45 Django Unchained is on. Fabulous movie
21Mar 21:50 Old boy (Korean movie) is on. That was the strangest and most repulsive movie I’ve ever seen. Totally not my cup of tea.
22Mar 01:00 Train Arrived Berlin.
22Mar 02:30 Home sweet Home.

So that was that. Now I wanna sleep until Monday.
