RBLibrary.com has acquired RBGarage.com from us! RBGarage.com has long been a staple of the REALbasic community, and it's in great hands with the folks at RBLibrary.com. Together, the two sites complement each other perfectly, providing a unified resource of great content for REALbasic developers. We look forward to all the wonderful plans RBLibrary.com has in store for RBGarage.com.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone in the REALbasic community who helped us make RBGarage.com the world's largest and most popular online resource for REALbasic developers. I especially enjoyed all of the friends I've made during my 4 years at the helm of RBGarage.com.

Yes, you read correctly -- it's been 4 years! It's hard to believe I've been running/evolving the RBGarage.com site since 2003. Wow, how time flies when you're having fun!

And to answer the question on everyone's minds: NO, this is NOT a sign that I'm leaving the REALbasic community. Far from it! I'm still a very loyal REALbasic user and evangelist! While I truly loved running RBGarage.com, my time was constantly consumed by other projects, and I felt that RBGarage.com was not getting the attention that it deserved. Since the success of RBGarage.com is more important to me than any kudos I could receive as its owner, I decided that it was in the best interest of the REALbasic community to pass the torch to a new owner who could take RBGarage.com to the next level. This acquisition frees up some much needed time, so that I can focus on other software projects and new contributions to the REALbasic community.

THANK YOU for making my RBGarage.com stewardship an incredibly fun and rewarding ride! Your support was always much appreciated!

P.S. -- With RBGarage.com now hosted on RBLibrary's servers, this RSS news feed will soon be closed. Let me state for the record that REAL Software did NOT ask me to write this. I just thought I'd share my positive experiences with REAL World since every year (this year included), there are always grumblings on the various REALbasic mailing lists from people unsure of the benefits of attending REAL World.

Over the years, I've coded with many programming languages and have attended countless overpriced developer conferences, but REAL World is by far the most rewarding and beneficial, while remaining one of the least expensive. While most developer conferences are a cattle call of technology chearleaders and sponsored events where the CEO flies in only for the keynote, REAL World is the exact opposite. Geoff Perlman and his entire staff are present throughout the entire conference, talking with attendees and really listening to everyone's feedback. You'd be hard pressed to name any other developer conference where you can sit and eat lunch with the CEO and the core engineering staff, with the ability to ask any question you want (and even get honest answers)!

While you'll learn a lot from the quality sessions, in my opinion, the best thing about REAL World is the great networking opportunity that it presents. I said this last year, but I'll repeat it again -- If you think the REALbasic mailing lists represent a tight-knit community of loyal REALbasic users, REAL World is like the mailing lists on steriods.

Throughout the conference, everyone's eyes are scanning attendee badges, recognizing familiar names from the REALbasic mailing lists. It's nice to put faces to the names of the people who have helped us all with posted solutions or have created the applications we all use on a daily basis. Because the "ice has already been broken" with the mailing lists, the social energy is always extremely friendly. Everyone recognizes each other's names, so instead of wasting time with formal introductions, people simply jump into very comfortable conversations seconds after shaking hands for the first time!

One of my favorite events of the conference is the "unofficial" annual last night dinner. While many attendees leave after the conference ends that afternoon, there are many of us remaining who do not fly out until the next day. So all of the remaining attendees rally together in the hotel lobby and venture out on the town for drinks and dinner (Austin is known as the live music captiol of the world). It always ends up being an amazing networking experience, making it well worth the expense of one extra night hotel stay. For all of you who regularly attend REAL World and leave that last day in the afternoon, I encourage you to book your flight back for the following morning this year, so that you can join us for the post-conference last night festivities!

Attendees leave REAL World with not only some new REALbasic knowledge, but many of them walk away with new business opportunities, new consulting contracts, new customers, and a renewed sense of inspiration to go out and create that next killer app!

Just my two cents... See you at REAL World!

Regards,
Dave Wooldridge
RB Garage Webmaster

Happy New Year from RB Garage!

This year, RB Garage is set to exceed 1,000 developer listings!
