<p>Have you ever struggled with addiction or alcoholism and really wondered why you can&#8217;t break out of that cycle? Hi, my name is Roger Brian. I&#8217;ve been sober for nine and a half years. And this morning I was having a conversation with a friend who was dealing with some issues and it led to us talking about, well, there is the opening bell for the markets.</p>
<p>Sorry about that. It led to us talking about. Why this happens and it was more in the context of their ex in the conversation about whether or not They maybe could have worked things out if they would have put more effort into it So in this video though today, I want to share with you How we&#8217;ve taken we i&#8217;m sorry.</p>
<p>I have taken the work of david hawkins map of consciousness Victor Frankl&#8217;s Man&#8217;s Search for Meaning or the Existential Vacuum with a little bit of Richard Rohr&#8217;s Heaven and Hell concept and put them all together into what I believe is a map that can help us better understand how people find themselves in a cycle of addiction or alcoholism and potentially what they can do to try to break themselves out if nothing else has worked.</p>
<p>This is a very philosophical conversation but I&#8217;m going to share my screen And show you what I am talking about. All right, so hopefully, yeah, you can see my screen. Now, I am going to open up. Let&#8217;s annotate. Okay. Got it. We are going to be concentrating on I don&#8217;t want to draw. Where&#8217;s a shape race. I guess draws good enough.</p>
<p>Oh, there we go. We&#8217;re going to be concentrating on this area down here. Let me explain what this is. Dr. David Hawkins created this map of consciousness in, I believe, in the 80s or 90s, and it&#8217;s designed to give an energetic log or level to every state of being everything from a book to a person to a story to the constitution.</p>
<p>We&#8217;re not going to dive too deep into that, but what we&#8217;re going to say is that. When you look at this, if you are struggling with alcoholism and addiction, this is a state of being that is part of the survival paradigm. Typically you&#8217;re living in a state of hell or purgatory. You&#8217;re living, uh, you self identify with your lower ego.</p>
<p>You are constantly in the victim abuser consciousness. And then this is a list of your emotional states, your view of life, your view of God, uh, and the process that you go through when you&#8217;re, when you&#8217;re working on things. Existential vacuum. This was a concept created by Viktor Frankl, um, published in the book, uh, Man&#8217;s Search for Meaning, maybe published earlier than that, but I would highly recommend reading Man&#8217;s Search for Meaning.</p>
<p>Um, he was, um, a therapist in Austria in the 30s, um, Jewish. Ended up in the concentration camps for between 3 and 4 years when he got out, he found that his entire family had been killed by the Nazis and he took his the strategies that he had developed before this experience combined with the experience of going through that and found that 1 of his most famous sayings is that a man can survive.</p>
<p>Anyhow, as long as he has a Y, so an existential vacuum is is defined as a lack of purpose in life. So, when you look at this, and you see that there&#8217;s this red line across the screen, and it is. A lack of purpose that is that line, meaning that if you have no purpose in your life, no, um, passion, no reason to get up in the morning, this can be different things to different people that it&#8217;s very hard to break out of these lower levels or these lower energetic logs.</p>
<p>The, the higher levels require a sense of purpose, a sense of motivation, a sense of drive. And many people find themselves stuck in situations where they don&#8217;t have this. Um, I reflect on, um, my father. He lived most of his adult life below this level in an existential vacuum after being laid off from a job and then having a heart attack with no life insurance and filing bankruptcy, but even bankruptcy doesn&#8217;t get rid of medical bills.</p>
<p>And basically destroyed his life around the age of 45. He lived to be 73 and he never bounced back. Um, I myself can reflect on this that from the early, when I was young, I went into the military. I went to college. I started a company. I grew that company. I sold it. And when I sold that company, let&#8217;s say in 2012, I did kind of go through this state of apathy.</p>
<p>Which is down here</p>
<p>and I had some grief and regret despair for about 6 months and. This was because once I sold the company, I had a non compete. The, we signed on, I remember this on Valentine&#8217;s day, but we didn&#8217;t close until like a couple days before Halloween. I could do nothing. So here&#8217;s a person that worked a hundred hours a week, military, a hundred hours a week, full time job in school, a hundred hours a week building the company, sold the company.</p>
<p>And now I&#8217;m just sitting there. Nothing don&#8217;t have the money from selling the company and don&#8217;t have the ability to go do anything else. Cause I don&#8217;t want to break that non compete accidentally. So I went into this state. Now I bounced back by starting another company. Once that was all done, building it, growing it.</p>
<p>Then in 2017, kind of lost interest in it. And 2018, I started to get into investing with crypto made a ton of money. If I would&#8217;ve just stopped. It would have been set for life, but I was like, you know what? I&#8217;m going to turn this into a business and I&#8217;ve watched my life decline from there. Now, what does this have to do with alcoholism and addiction?</p>
<p>Now alcoholism and addiction and alcoholism is one thing addiction. It can be drugs. Um, it can be pornography. It can be shopping. Um, it can be impulsivity. There&#8217;s a lot of different things that can be considered addictions and they all live in these lower energetic states. So I find myself here today just talking with my friend and we&#8217;re both agreeing that we both kind of live in an existential vacuum that happened in 2018.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s 2024, six years later. I still haven&#8217;t broken out of it. And I live in this survival paradigm paradigm. I constantly am reminded of how I am living in purgatory or how, how I live with desire. Uh, or craving for a life that I had before. Um, I have anxiety about the life that I&#8217;m in today. I would say that my view of life today is disappointing.</p>
<p>Um, for all of the blessings that I&#8217;ve had in my life and all of the good things that have happened, I get so stuck in this state that I can&#8217;t pull myself out of it. Now, I haven&#8217;t gone back to drinking, but I have been a victim of other addictions. Um, well, there we go. Wait. I&#8217;m in a victim consciousness.</p>
<p>Let me rephrase that. I have made. Decisions and choices that show that I&#8217;m living in a lower state, which are part of the addiction problem and all bouncing off against this lack of purpose, this existential vacuum. Now in AA, in the 12 step process, part of it is giving yourself up to a higher power. I never really understood this.</p>
<p>Like I was in AA for probably, well, let&#8217;s just be exact. 45 minus 10, 35, uh, 20 to 35 for 15 years. I bounced in and out of AA. Sometimes court ordered because I got myself in trouble. I used to drink a lot. Sometimes I was really like, okay, now I&#8217;m going to actually do this. Never stuck with me. And it was primarily because I never grasped the concept of giving everything up to a higher power.</p>
<p>I had never really found spirituality or religion to resonate with me. And this is where Richard Rohr came in, in his book, uh, Breathing Underwater. Where he talks about why people with alcoholism and addiction problems have trouble doing that when you&#8217;re in a lower state, you can&#8217;t see the positive in life.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t see the, um, how the non changeables of religion until you give yourself up to it. And this can help you in getting clarity about your lack of purpose. And that&#8217;s what happened with me, October of last year after numerous therapists, psychologists, um, Even, um, a psychic once it was, we were waiting to go to dinner and we had nothing better to do.</p>
<p>So we went into see a psychic and she looked at my hand and she&#8217;s like, you know what? Your, um, Aura is broken. You have no beliefs. You believe in nothing. Um, I can&#8217;t help you until you, you fix that. She&#8217;s like, let&#8217;s spend two days together working on that. I thought she was just trying to pitch me, but the reality was she saw something that I wasn&#8217;t willing to accept myself.</p>
<p>I came up again in a program called the break method that I&#8217;ve been in since October of last year, which has been a huge help in my life. And going through that, it came up that, like, hey, having spiritual beliefs. Not you don&#8217;t necessarily have to be a person that goes to church every day or every week, even though I am, will help you to get clarity on what&#8217;s going on in your life.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s different for everybody, but it helps a lot with alcoholism and addiction. And it&#8217;s been proven in AA. It&#8217;s been proven with Richard Rohr&#8217;s work that when you get to that spiritual belief, You have something to focus on. You have a purpose. You have a belief that will allow you to let go of some of the things that are holding you in that state of addiction or alcoholism or that state of apathy, as I&#8217;ve said, that I I&#8217;ve lived in finding that purpose is the key, though, if you&#8217;re sitting there today.</p>
<p>And you are struggling to quit drinking. You&#8217;re struggling to quit drugs. You&#8217;re struggling with, um, other addictions that have stopped you from having healthy relationships with yourself or with other people start by finding a purpose. It can be something small. Um, I&#8217;d like to say that we can find purpose in our kids.</p>
<p>I have 2 children. I love them to death, but they&#8217;re not going to give me. The fulfillment of purpose that helping the rest of the world or building something that I wake up every day and then I&#8217;m excited about. In fact, by trying to make your kids your purpose, you&#8217;re actually going to make things worse for you and for them.</p>
<p>So you need to find an internal Purpose so that you can better, uh, participate in the external world. Um, I say that specifically because many people, when they look for purpose, they will look externally, they&#8217;ll look for a relationship. That relationship may be good. It may be bad for them, but it could be the best relationship ever, but they&#8217;re going to ruin it.</p>
<p>By trying to find external validation or external purpose in life when the reality is they need to find it internally. 1st, they need to have a reason to get up in the morning. They need to enjoy what they&#8217;re doing and they need to see that. It&#8217;s going to help them achieve the goals that they set in life.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t want to talk to an addict or an alcoholic about bigger life term goals. It&#8217;s not fair because basically you&#8217;re dangling a carrot in front of them that they&#8217;re never going to reach. They&#8217;ve got to first find purpose and let that purpose pull them out of these lower states of being. As soon as they start to feel optimism, they start to become hopeful.</p>
<p>They start to feel affirmation and they start to find gratefulness. They start to let life Start happening. And this all happens around courage. They are now out of hell, out of purgatory. They&#8217;re in the rational self. They&#8217;re in between purgatory and paradise. But that in between state is a great place of being because it&#8217;s a forward moving place of being.</p>
<p>If you ever want to find true love and that peace that comes with it up here,</p>
<p>being with the love of your life and being in that moment with them, that truly is paradise. And it&#8217;s a very hard state to get to. And it&#8217;s an even harder state to hold on to. You&#8217;re not going to get there. If you&#8217;re living below the existential vacuum threshold, you&#8217;re living in those lower energy levels.</p>
<p>You&#8217;re living in a state of being that is not in a positive Uh, residence with the universe. So I will post a link below this video directly to this document so that you can take a look. <p>Hi. I&#8217;m Roger Bryan. Today, I&#8217;m going to be reviewing the book The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, number 1 New York Times best seller. The overall summary of this book is about focusing in on that one thing, eliminating the crap and committing to be the absolute best and having a plan for accountability. In this book, I&#8217;m going to break this own into four parts, the entrepreneurial part, the personal part, the sales, and then the marketing philosophy that I got out of this book. The first thing is is that there&#8217;s a saying that they have in the book. &#8220;If you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one. Extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus.&#8221;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This is a great book. I wish that I would have read this book a couple years ago. It really takes me back to like April 2014 where I was still trying to fumble around after selling my last company and what I was going to do and was working on, I think, 17 projects and when I really started to narrow it down to that absolute one which I&#8217;ve now spent two years working on, the success has been exponential compared to not doing that. There are three primary rules that this book outlines that help you to find, focus, and keep on that one thing. The first one is the path of mastery. I was reminded by a friend Mike Vega recently that we&#8217;re training new sales reps in our organization and he said, &#8220;Remember the 10,000 hour rule,&#8221; and I really sat down and thought about it and from a data science perspective which is what we&#8217;re doing now, I&#8217;ve only put 7,600 hours into that over the last two years so I&#8217;m not at that point of mastery yet but I continue to work on it.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The next one is entrepreneurial versus purposeful. This is a great one because too often people say that I&#8217;m doing my best. That&#8217;s not good enough. There are a lot of people doing their best. It&#8217;s not good enough for any of them. If you&#8217;re going to do something, do it the best that it can be done, not the best that you can do it, but the absolute best that it can be done. That&#8217;s living with purpose. That&#8217;s focusing in on the one thing. The next thing is live the accountability cycle. You have to have an accountability cycle where there&#8217;s an undeniable commitment between you and what you want to get. When you outline that and you stick to that goal, there&#8217;s nothing in this world that can stop you and this book will help guide you through that process.</p>

<p>The next one is the application that I saw to sales and this is something that I just saw inside myself and inside my organization is that things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least. That&#8217;s actually a quote from Van Gogh which I really like. Equality in business is a lie. I&#8217;m not talking about from an HR or equal opportunity perspective but I&#8217;m talking about from a task management perspective. If your business needs money, the number one thing you need to be working on is sales. You need to forget everything else. Stop developing your products, stop trying to come up with a snazzy hook. You need to go out and you need to generate sales. You need to beg, borrow, and steal that money from any customer that will give it to you so that you can build a successful business and do all of those other things that you want to do. Concentrating on that one thing that you need to do most is vital. More importantly, you have to know what that one thing is.</p>

<p>The last thing was from a marketing perspective and I can relate to this from some times in the past. &#8220;Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.&#8221; Alan Lakein. Having a plan is okay. It&#8217;s a good start. What drives me nuts is like when I&#8217;ve had students in the past that create these beautiful vision boards of all these things that they want and they put on there, &#8220;I&#8217;m going to have that in one year.&#8221; I&#8217;m like, &#8220;Great. How are you going to get there? What are you going to do today? What are you going to do this week? What are you going to do this month, this quarter, this year? How are you going to get there?&#8221; Most people have no plan. This book, The One Thing, will help you to define that plan. It will help you to build those stepping stones and those segments in perfect analytical, chronological, and strategic order.</p>

<p>If you own a business, you need to market. To market, you need a plan. Plan for that one thing. That was my marketing lesson. This book, I can see why it&#8217;s a number 1 best seller. I listened to it as an audio book. I liked it so much that I then bought it as a hard copy as well so I could reread it. <p>What if I told you that success is scientific? It wasn’t something to do with luck, and nothing to do with hard work. Timing is not really important. If you had the exact formula for success, what would you be able to do with that? My name is Roger Bryan, and I want to show you today the reasons why your business is succeeding, and more importantly, the reasons why your business is failing.</p>
<p>So the very first thing I want to look at is – what are your annual sales? Are they around $100,000 or less? Are they around $250,000 or less? Or are you doing a $1,000,000 a year in sales or more? Because, scientifically, there’s an exact reason each of these income streams exists, and you’ll be amazed to see what these elements are. So let’s go over these real quick. So if you’re making $100,000 or less in gross sales per year, it is because you don’t have a perfect product. You haven’t split tested, you haven’t done your market demographics, you don’t know what people want to buy, you’re trying to create something that you think that they want without really going out and asking them. You’re not putting forward any sales effort, no real cohesive effort’s being done from lead generation, from going out and making new deals, it is kind of haphazard, you’re probably relying on referrals, and you know account in place. If you don’t know your numbers, and that’s not just about money, this is about the statistics of your marketing, the statistics of your client’s marketing, everything that you’re trying to do to get your business to grow in order to help their business grow. If you you’re an entrepreneur and say you, say, own a cleaning company, or even if you’re a dentist or chiropractor, do you know your numbers from an operational perspective? Probably. Do you know it from marketing and sales perspective? Probably not.</p>
<p>Now, if you’re making $100,000 a year you have a job, there’s no way around it. I don’t care if you’re sitting all your work in front of a computer in boxers, or hell, if you’re sitting at your work naked, if you’re making less than $100,000 a year, you have a job, you can argue with me until you get red in the face, I’m going to win. What comes after a job? I say – a hobby comes in. If you’re making about $250,000 and this is not sales, you have a hobby. I’m proud of you, I’m happy for you. It still doesn’t mean anything, but you know how to hobby. So it means you have a decent product, you have found a way to develop something that you can sell over and over again. Back here you’re trying to sell each person individually what they want instead of creating a part that you can sell en masse.</p>
<p>Now, maybe you’re doing some networking, you’re going to a meet up, (2:23), you’re going to events, place to meet new customers, but you haven’t really put together a real sales and marketing campaign. Now, you’re starting to put together some numbers. Maybe you have a spreadsheet or Google Doc or book that you fill out every time you have expenses, and you’re starting to keep track a little bit of success of your campaigns, but you still have no sales effort. You’re not really going out there to push this product into the right people that want it, and you probably don’t have a team, or if you do you have the wrong team or the wrong people. So how do we move scientifically from having a job, into a hobby, into having a business?</p>
<p>Well, we start to develop these certain assets. We make sure that we’ve perfected our product. A perfected product is something that you can sell to 50 people today without having to do any additional work. We’re going to turn your protective pitch, that means anytime anyone asks you what your product is, what it does, who you are, what you do, it is just your second nature for you to tell them, and you can tell them with such passion and enthusiasm that they want to know more, they want to learn more, they want to hear from you, they want to talk to you. You have a team. Now, notice that I put this big. You have the A team, you have the right players, in the right positions, doing the right things. The right things are systems and procedures. That means that nothing is haphazard. Everything is strategic. When you get a new customer in, you know every single thing that’s going to happen every single day that they’re going to be your client, before they sign up for you.</p>
<p>You have a sales department in a funnel. Now, the sales department can be one individual, it can be an outsource individual, it can be yourself, but you know what it does, you know what it’s doing here. You know where your leads are coming from, you know what your script is to sell them, you know what your product offering is, your pricing, your capabilities, your deliverables, and you know a ton of people, you know how to bring them in to the top of the funnel. You know how to get them in on the content. You know how to convert them into a lead in order to nurture them through blog posting, press releases and other types of social communication with them, and you know how to get them into the bottom of your funnel and convert them into paying customers.</p>
<p>You’re doing your own marketing. Now, say again, like you own your cleaning company or chiropractic. That doesn’t mean you’re hiring a third party agency to do your marketing, but you’re doing it. You’re putting money out there, you’re putting 15% of your gross sales back into marketing in order to help that business grow, and you have a (CEIPO) or proper accounting. Now, having a million dollar range, maybe you have a bookkeeper that does your books once a month, maybe you have an in-house office manager that does your accountancy payable, payroll and all that kind of stuff, but you have proper accounting in. If you were to sit down in front of your computer today, you could print off a balance sheet, a profit and loss, a cash flow statement. You could tell me your earnings by client. You would have all of these elements put together, and that’s what a million dollar business is.</p>
<p>So, if you’re trying to progress your way from making $100,000 a year and grow sales, $250,000 and grow sales and $1,000,000 a year and grow sales, this is a scientific way to do it. Now, you have to ask yourself: “What is the reason to do this?” Well, if you have a gross sales of $100,000 as your job, if at the end of the year you survived, you got roof over head, you’re eating food, you live in America, that’s not enough. At $250,000 in gross sales, you should start to see the $50-70,000 a year net income. That means that you live in a house that you want to live in, you’re driving a car that you want to drive, you’re going on a vacation once a year, you’re actually enjoying life a little bit, you can get a little bit out of it than anybody else. The big change becomes when you get over here.</p>
<p>Remember, this is scientific, all you have to do is do these things and this happens. You don’t have to be lucky, you don’t have to be smart, you just have to be willing to apply these and earn the money that you work. So what happens over here?</p>
<p>Well, now over here you’re taking home, you netting $250,000 a year, you’re taking any vacation you want, whenever you want. This business is paying for part of your house, your office that you have used, even if you don’t use it that often. It is leasing your Cadillac, your Mercedes, your BMW, your Lexus, whatever the hell you want to drive, it is letting you live in the house that you want to live, it is letting you control your life, it is paying for your health insurance, it is paying for your retirement accounts, it is putting money away for your kids’ college tuition, so this isn’t just a number up here, this is a lifestyle, this is a reason for existing. We live in the greatest country in the world, and if you’re living in Europe or living in Australia, you’ve got the same opportunities there.</p>
<p>We are living in the greatest time in the history of the world, and the barrier to entry to having success in business can be 0 in many cases, if you have the scientific formula to make it happen. <p>I want to talk in this video about your process. So, in a job, you might have a singular process for what you do when you go to work, that might be sitting down, putting your feet up, drinking coffee for 45 minutes, taking an extra half an hour at lunch, you know, the normal things that employees do. But if you’re entrepreneur and you’re trying to do that individual job for you, the reason that you’re stuck at $100,000 market is because of the lack of process, it is because of the lack of systems and procedures, if you’d like to call them. Every single thing that you’re doing in your business needs to have an exact procedure.</p>
<p>Here’s a good example. I just printed up the new version of the procedures for our CFO, it is the exact book she creates for me every Monday that has every project they’re working on, every business that we’re investing in, all of the PNL, the cash flow, the balance sheet, and she idiomizes everything for me, she shows us what our credit accounts look like, she shows us what our incoming revenues are supposed to look like, she shows us our weekly sales goals, and it is all broken down to about 16 page binder that I get every Monday morning by 11 AM. So, that is a procedure for me keeping track of my numbers, which for me is the most vital thing in my business.</p>
<p>So, if you’re starting to ask yourself: “Why am I stuck at this $100,000 range and we’re talking about the process today, what processes have you put in place? Do you have a sales script, do you have a sales phone, do you have a lead generation process, do you have an implementation process for the first 30 days of your new client or the new customer? Say you’re a local cleaner, do you have an exact process for when an item comes in, what hands it touches and how it goes back out with the time framing between each touches so that you know the exact recipe for success and how you can trim time and increase profitability. If you’re a chiropractor, do you know the exact process of confirming appointments, similar to a dentist or similar to that?</p>
<p>When the customers leaves after the last treatment, what is the process that the person at the front desk follows through with it that they make sure that they’re going to get the paying customer back real soon? When you move from the job to the hobby side, you’re getting into the $250,000, you’re starting to put some processes together because there’s no way you’re making $250,000 a year. That’s some process, even if it’s all in your head. You’re starting to put them in Excel, you’re starting to put them into the Smart Sheet, you’re starting to put them in GoogleDoc, maybe you’re typing them out in Word docs, you’re starting to create a little more organization. But I’ll tell you, when it comes to creating a business that’s getting to this $1,000,000 mark, you would have to have perfected processes. That means that every single process in your business has to be documented, there has to be a binder somewhere, or a folder on the computer, where you can print out the exact process for every single thing you do in your business.</p>
<p>Now, that’s prettier than done. That doesn’t mean that they’re done. That means that you have the set that’s working for you now, but you’re always wanting to be looking to continually improve it, but not necessarily change it. One of the problems that entrepreneurs run into that keeps them in glass ceiling here is that they’re consciously changing all of their processes. They say that the only constant in business is change, but the less change that you can have, meaning improvements, one or two improvements here, 5% change is okay, but throwing it out and starting over, not a good idea once you get to this point, you have to be perfecting. You don’t want shiny objects, that’s facing a lot of entrepreneurs, which actually keeps most of them below the hobby point. So this is Rodger the Partner here, and we’re just talking about the processes here and how perfecting processes and procedures can get you to a job to hobby to a business. From $100,000 to $250,000 to $1,000,000 a year.</p>

<p>In this video I want to talk about your product. This is something that a lot of entrepreneurs face as a problem, and the primary reason is that they all spend their time in the build phase. It goes like this: build vs. sell. The reality is – that’s the third step in the proper product cycle. It’s not the first. This is why so many entrepreneurs spend so much time, I’ve worked and known people that would spend 18 months trying to build and never went out to start selling, and when they went out to sell, no one was buying, so they went to building again. They did it completely wrong.</p>
<p>So in the product cycle, if you’re making under $100,000 a year, that’s probably what you’re doing. If you’re trying to become an entrepreneur or if you are an entrepreneur, and you’re stuck at this $100,000 or below mark, the problem is your product. You’re not trying to sell it as much as you’re trying to build it. If you go out today and you start try to sell whatever it is that you’re trying to sell, you’re going to learn more in that process than you’ll ever learn in trying to build. Now, I’m not talking about going and surveying and all those things. Actually go out and sell it. You could survey a bunch of people, but if they’re not willing to give you money for whatever it is that you’re selling, your product or your service, then they’re not potential buyers and their data’s worthless to you. Sell it! Ask them: “Hey, you know what, I’m doing an event. It is going to be a $500 for you to attend, this is what are you going to learn, so you can learn that.” “So what do you want to learn?” “Get perfect.” Next person. “So we’re going to be doing an event. We’re going to be teaching this.” “Oh this is what I want to learn, but for $500 it is too much.” Or, you know, “I don’t think that $500 is valuable enough.” You need to do that in the sales process to figure out exactly what your product needs to be.</p>
<p>A good case in point – recently we opened a new office in Ohio to sell local marketing services that we’ve been selling all across the US and Canada and actually a couple of clients in Europe as well, and we found that our price point for Ohio was way too high. So we had a decision to make: we could either charge less while doing the same work, which of course we didn’t want to do, we could create a lower price product so we could fit the market, we didn’t want to do that either, so what did we do? We stopped trying to sell it. We found that our product in that market was not a viable product. We continued to sell it in other markets, we continued to thrive past this point. So what are you doing with your product? Are you a builder or are a seller? And if you’re a builder, you’re right here, if you’re starting to figure out what do you need to sell a little bit more often than not, then you’re starting to work your way into this hobby standpoint where you’re making about $250,000 a year. You’re hitting that ceiling, though, because you’re not perfecting it. You’re not concentrating 100% of your time and energy into selling your product first and then letting your team do the implementation of the build-up of the product afterwards.</p>
<p>So that’s the information that you need to go from job to hobby to business. Right here, all you’re doing is building. Here, you’re starting to sell a little bit. Here, all you’re doing is selling. You’re making sure that the first thing you do every morning when you wake up is to sell. You’re making sure that the last thing you do before you go to bed at night is follow up with your leads and make sure to try get a close. And when you do that, you have a business. You’re making a million dollars a year. We’ve talked in previous videos what that can mean to you and your family. <p>Hi, Roger here I want to thank you for taking the time to watch the other videos. So, we’ve talked about today what’s the difference between making a $100,000 a year and job, making $250,000 a year and hobby, and making $1,000,000 in gross revenues and a business. We’ve talked about over here – you’re typically working for someone else, or you’re just spending your wheels, you’re not really accomplishing anything with your life, maybe you got a roof over your head, you know what, if you’re happy I’m happy, but I want to work with people who want more out of life. So, the next step, and that is to get them into this hobby style of business.<span id="more-2186"></span></p>
<p>We’re making $250,000 a year. You’ve now figured out what it is that people want to buy, you’re making it available for them to buy, you’re doing a good job at implementing it, you’re selling a lot of it. Here you’re living in a decent house, you’re driving a decent car, you can go on a vacation every year, you’re really starting to enjoy life. Well, I want to help you get from here to here, which I helped many entrepreneurs do, I’ve done multiple times before with my own life. Over here we’ve got the perfect product. We know our pitch, we know how to sell, our no. 1 priority is always sales, nothing else. We sell first, everything else comes second. We let out team handle the implementation and the growth of the internal elements of our company. We allow them to do this for the systems and the procedures that we design. We help them put leads into the sales department and in the funnel so we can close more business, we can make more money, we do our own marketing or we hire a firm, but we are doing marketing, we know what they’re doing. We have a CFO, we have proper accounting in place so we can keep track of our numbers both analytically from a marketing and sales perspective and financially for an overall accounting perspective. We’re doing that for application of people, process product, we’re always looking for the weakest link in the business. Is it a person issues, product issues or process issue?</p>
<p>We’re finding it, we’re solving it, we’re making sure that it doesn’t happen again to the implementation of the new systems and procedures, and then we’re repeating the process every single month, month after month, knowing that we always have a weakest link in our business and that we’re always fixing it. Now why we’re doing that? Because we want success. What is success in our world? That is a business that does at least a million dollars a year in gross sales. Putting $250,000 a year in your pocket. Having a house that you want to live in, having a company pay the lease on that Mercedes, that Porsche, that BMW, whatever it is that you want to have, they’re paying your health insurance, they’re funding your retirement accounts, they’re sending your kids to college. The only reason to do this is for the reward that comes in the end, and that’s how you get to live your life. <p>Hi. This is Roger from Enfusen. Today, I am doing a book review on Evolved Enterprise by Yanik Silver. Right on the cover it says, &#8220;How to rethink, reimagine and reinvent your business to deliver meaningful impact and even greater profits.&#8221; Now, I will say that earlier in my career, it was all about the money. At some point in time, that gets old for a lot of entrepreneurs. You could spend, as they say, years in the desert trying to figure out where you&#8217;re going, or you can pick up a book like this and really get some concrete ideas in how you can evolve your enterprise in order to make an impact in the world.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>It starts with a question. <strong>Do you feel like your business is destined for greatness?</strong> If you do, this is going to help you outline how to achieve that greatness. If you don&#8217;t, this might help you get a vision for how it can. At some point in time in your life, you&#8217;re going to want to do more than just sit at a computer and make money. I&#8217;m talking to the digital marketers out there, the internet entrepreneurs because that&#8217;s my space.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>When you decide that you want to make an impact, this book outlines 11 different evolved enterprise impact business models. Now, I&#8217;m not going to go through all of them but it&#8217;s definitely a [recommend read. When you look at how other organizations, which I think is a great thing that this book does, it outlines all 11 strategies and it gives you a case study one, two or even three businesses that follow this.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a couple examples. The buy one give one model. Everybody thinks of Toms Shoes. To date, they&#8217;ve given over a million shoes. Their premise is you buy a shoe or a pair of shoes, hopefully you need more than one, then they donate a pair of shoes to someone in need in a developing nation. The next strategy is a percentage or a dollar amount. I chose that one because that&#8217;s sometimes is the easiest one to implement. You see it all over the place but maybe it&#8217;s not used enough where, hey, we&#8217;re going to give 5% of profits, 10% of gross revenues to nonprofit organization that&#8217;s in aligned with what our products, services, solution is.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The third one, which is near and dear to my heart, is <strong>empowered employment</strong>. Now, he doesn&#8217;t use this example in here. When I think of empowered employment, I think of Goodwill Industries. It&#8217;s an organization that I&#8217;ve supported for the better part of my life. I&#8217;ve always loved how when you go into their facilities, you can see the opportunities that are created for those that can&#8217;t enter into the normal workforce so that they can have meaning and fulfilling life. Those are three of the 11. They&#8217;re three of the ones that I could most relate with.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The book ends on the community code elements that Yanik outlines. For those of you that are watching this video and you know who the Mavericks are, it&#8217;s an amazing organization that is really built around these principles. I don&#8217;t know which came first, the Mavericks or the principles. The alignment that the Mavericks have with these principles is uncanny.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>When you look at the second half of this book and you look at the community code, there were three things that stood out to me. I&#8217;m going to talk about it from my perspective because I don&#8217;t have this all figured out. I&#8217;ll be lying if I said I did. Part of the community code is that as you build your tribe, how can you help that tribe to have a bigger vision for the future? When I think about working with my team, my clients, I can&#8217;t necessarily say today that there is a bigger vision for the future for everyone involved. Now, it doesn&#8217;t mean that I&#8217;m not working on it, and it doesn&#8217;t mean that this book hasn&#8217;t actually helped me to isolate some opportunities, but it&#8217;s not completely defined yet. I&#8217;m sure as you&#8217;re watching this video, you don&#8217;t have this all figured out either. This book will definitely help guide you as well as a couple other books that were recommended to me by Yanik.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>There&#8217;s three things that I&#8217;m trying to do in my business right now from a client perspective in building my tribe. I&#8217;m not going to go into super detail here. The <strong>rituals, artifacts and experiences</strong>, these are things that I&#8217;ve outlined in my journal from this book that I&#8217;m continuing to think about today. I&#8217;ve done in the past events that are really experiential-based for our clients whether they&#8217;d be a trip to Trump Winery where you&#8217;d get to make wine and view the Trump family&#8217;s private wine cellars or going to Las Vegas and staying in a penthouse suite overlooking the entire strip and eating at the best restaurants. Just the experience that says that we do this for a bigger reason. Now, that&#8217;s not in alignment with this book. If the experiences also took into creating a greater impact in the world, then they would be more in alignment. As I look at my business, my life, and I try to get more alignment between the business and the causes that I support, I recommend that you look to do the same if it&#8217;s something that&#8217;s important to you.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I think this is a great read. It&#8217;s an easy read. It&#8217;s got some Yanik&#8217;s doodles in here from his journal. It&#8217;s got great case stories to support all of his vision. Again, almost every book that I review, I give a five out of five. It doesn&#8217;t discount them because I probably only finished two out of three books I pick up. If I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s an amazing book, I just set it back down. This was a book that was read in less than 24 hours because I could see in this book my desire to evolve my enterprises, serve a greater good. I highly recommend you pick up this book. Thank you, Yanik, for writing something that we could really enjoy. Thank you.</p>

<p>This is Roger from Enfusen. Our book review today will be Stephen Cope, The Great Work of Your Life: A Guide for the Journey to Your True Calling.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>If you would&#8217;ve put a book like this in front of me 4 years ago I&#8217;d a probably used it to start a bonfire. If you would&#8217;ve given it to me 6 months ago it would probably have coffee stains on it. If you look at this book now, this is book has traveled all over the place with me. It&#8217;s beat up. It actually got lost for a day and then it was found, amazing.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The reason for that is this is about the quest for finding your true self, which isn&#8217;t something that I really spent a lot of time on earlier in life. The way that Cope walks through this is really using the Bhagavad Gita in the story of Arjuna, his mentor, Krishna. I&#8217;m not going to go too deep into that story. What I would say is that this book prompted me to buy the Bhagavad Gita to read it because the story seemed so influential from history, major religion, but also from a personal experience standpoint that I was kind of blown away.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>What I really liked about this book is it had amazing principles, but more importantly, it showed how those principles were true fact through the stories of some of the most well-known people throughout history, modern history to be more specific.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>What it comes down to is finding your deeper purpose that is already hidden in your life. I want to stop on that for a second. I, myself, and a lot of other people I believe when they go searching for their deeper purpose they think that it&#8217;s out there or it&#8217;s over there or it was missed in the past. My belief was that this book is to help you realize that it&#8217;s already there. It&#8217;s already in you. It&#8217;s already screaming for attention. You just have to stop trying to listen and you&#8217;ll be able to hear it.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Let me give you a few, some contextual stories that came from this book that might help with that, that I was blown away with. The stories in this book follow John Keats, Susan B. Anthony, Jane Goodall, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, and I forgot to even mention Gandhi.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was talking to my wife about this book and I was like, &#8220;I didn&#8217;t know that Gandhi was not only a failure at an attorney, he was an epic failure.&#8221; When I say epic failure, he got a big case he got so scared that he ran out of the courtroom embarrassing his family and then had to leave the country because he was so embarrassed.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Gandhi that we know that changed the world for an entire country, or changed the destiny of an entire country. He wasn&#8217;t born, maybe he was born to do that, but he wasn&#8217;t born knowing that he was going to do that. At the age of 26 he was a complete and utter failure. It was his idea to lead a group of people to burn their identification cards that really set him on a path to his destiny, his dharma, that was unknown to him before that.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I really liked the story of Jane Goodall, and more importantly, her mother. Jane Goodall actually started down her path at 4 years old. A lot of people could be starting down their path as a child. If you&#8217;re a parent or if you have staff and they might not have realized what their path is I think it&#8217;s our responsibility to find that in them, help them acknowledge it and help them embrace it.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Jane Goodall at 4 years old was hiding in chicken coops so that she could learn how chickens laid eggs. Her parents freaked the fuck out the first time she did that because they couldn&#8217;t find her for an entire day. Instead of scolding her, her mom embraced her. Most people don&#8217;t know that when Jane Goodall went over into the rain forest to spend the rest of her life with the chimpanzees her mom went with her. Her mom set up her camp. Her mom took care of her personal needs because she was helping Jane embrace everything that she could possibly be and the amazing work that she would end up doing.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I could talk about all of these stories, what I learned about Susan B. Anthony and the way that she helped changed women&#8217;s rights in this country at a time when it was nearly impossible to even have a voice that was heard. I&#8217;ve always been a huge fan of Henry David Thoreau. You know what was interesting, and this might sound like a negative, but to me it was kind of funny, is that Walden is one of my favorite books. I never knew that Walden Pond was actually 2.3 miles from his parent&#8217;s house. His mom used to bring him food. Basically he was camping in the back yard for 18 months. He wasn&#8217;t really out on some spiritual mission. The clarity that he got and the writing that he did in that short period of time is some of the greatest poetical works of I&#8217;d say modern history, but definitely American literature.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Robert Frost, in order to follow his dharma, he bought a farm. That sounds funny, but what he wanted was he wanted isolation from the world to concentrate on being the best writer that he could be. There&#8217;s so many stories in here about people that at 50, 60, 70 years old, all they&#8217;re saying is I need 10 more years to perfect my art and I will be the best that I can possibly be. On their death beds people were still saying that.</p>

<p>If I put it back to you and I looked for a principle that&#8217;s from this book but it&#8217;s bigger then this book, if you look at what you&#8217;re doing today and you&#8217;re not striving to be the greatest at it, I&#8217;m not talking about just making money, but the greatest at it because you believe it&#8217;s your life&#8217;s work. You believe that what you&#8217;re doing is going to create greater impact in the world that you&#8217;re going to help people well beyond making money or just the impact of clients or people that you serve. I highly recommend this book because the clarity that comes with this vision isn&#8217;t easy to find, but it&#8217;s liberating once you have it.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s an absolutely wonderful book. If you look at my library you&#8217;d see I&#8217;ve not let books get wrinkled like this. This is the one that was with me at the beach. It traveled with me on multiple flights to multiple cities. Chapters have been read and reread. I highly recommend you take a look at this book and you look to see if you can figure out what the great work of your life is.</p>
