What a game at Riazor!

A crucial game to boost moral of the players and fans as well.

Deportivo La Coruna won the game against Sporting Gijon thanks to sacrafice and aim that the team had since the beginning of the game.

Not that Gijon weren't playing good, but they seemed satisfied with a point in their pocket since they scored and narrowed result in 66 minute.

The hero of the night was Ryan Babel

Babel came from the bench in 69 min. and replaced tired Marlos Moreno who also had a decent performance.

As time was going, it seemed that the game is doomed to another tasteless draw. Depor created chances, but the visiting defence and especially Ivan Cuellar, the visiting goalkeeper, were blocking all attempts.

And then in 92 just before the referee blowing the final whistle, Emre Colak passed a ball to Babel who firstly endured a rival and then fired a strong low shot from about 20 meters that hit the post and entered the goal.

It was complete game with a lot of opportunities, but at the end it was deserved.

Fernando Navarro Joins Depor

Fernando Navarro is Sevilla FC shirt

Fernando Navarro after 7 years spent in Sevilla FC has ended his contract with Andalusians and signs for Deportivo La Coruna.

The 32-year-old left back comes in a zero-cost transfer and it’s the first official signing for the season 2015/2016. Navarro is has 337 games in La Liga so far, and besides Sevilla, he’s played for Mallorca and Barcelona as well as two games for the Spanish national squad.

This will strengthen the left back position where naturally Luisinho and Manuel Pablo have played in the previous season.

Depor lost against Real Madrid but Celta Vigo will fall

I didn’t had time to write about the game played at Madrid last weekend but I’ll mention that game before a match that I thing will belong to Deportivo.

Although Real took the three points and Depor didn’t scored a goal, I felt that this team become capable of doing great things in near future. This Saturday is the moment of truth before a team that supposes to be the biggest enemy of Depor is sport sense. Celta Vigo is coming after a match in which they defeated the current champion of Spanish Liga BBVA – Atletico Madrid.

It will be entertaining, a hard game, but I’m sure Depor will get gold at the end. Celta must fall on this or that way. I prefer that way by the way :D

I expect great game by the full squad, and seeing Oriol Riera finally scoring his first goal at Depor.

Round 22: Deportivo La Coruna : SD Eibar

20 minutes before the match kick off. Deportivo La Coruna is hosting Eibar in a match that looks tricky since both teams will play for something. Depor will try to win its second game in a row and boost engagement before next week game against Real Madrid.

SD Eibar needs victory after 3 match days without it. They need to push strongly before getting into trouble as times goes on. They are the surprise of first round, and now need to finish the good job they’ve started in their first-ever Primera División season.

This will probably be the starting lineup of Deprotivo:

Rayo Vallecano 1:2 Deportivo La Coruna [Match Report]

Refreshing victory for Deportivo la Coruna while Celso Borges enjoyed a dream debut after he scored a brace and had outstanding performances. Celso showed everyone how is like to wear the blue and white shirt and is already the new hero of Depor fans. Rayo Vallecano, a talented team that wants to play with the ball, was totally unprepared for the style Depor present at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas. Running, combinative game and pressure was the new face of Deportivo who finally managed to keep the narrow score until the end.

The first goal came after a free shot of Cavaleiro and bad reaction of Rayo’s goalkeeper who deflect the ball right in the path of Celso. Ten minutes after, Rayo found the goal after Lopo could not clear the ball with head. This guy is making mistakes that cost us goals on almost every match. The ball came into the path of Alberto Bueno who easily put into Depor's goal. However, Depor never gave up. Just before the break, Jose Rodriguez had two consecutive chances to score its third goal for Deportivo this season but the finish was poor. Celso tried in the same action but Toño was there to prevent advantage for Depor.

The second half had the same script of first one and Depor had luck to find the goal from penalty after Sidney was fouled by Abdoulaye Ba, the same player that did the penalty in the game played at Riazor. Ceslo Borger was took responsibility and scored. What a player! Rayo tried and scored a goal, which was disallowed due to offside (Not sure if this was right decision).

This was second away victory for Depor and the team climbed up to 14th position with 3 points above the pit. Next game will be played at Riazor on 06.02.2015 with Eibar. A good chance for second win in a row and escape from the bottom. Forza Depor!

Round 21: Rayo Vallecano - Deportivo la Coruna

I haven’t been able to update RCDLC blog for quite a long time. But now I’m back in the game and will do my best to support one of the greatest teams in the history of Spanish football. So let’s start!

Tomorrow, 30.01.2015 Depor is playing the 21st game this season with not so attractive, but serious rival. That is Rayo Vallecano, a team that is doing well so far this season and is placed on 10th place having 23 points.

I won’t hide and say Rayo is a little favorite to win this game. They have lost their last four games at home and against Depor, they will search the win. On the other side, Deportivo will try to get some positive things and get the win after three rounds without it and missing it by minutes in the last match against Granada. Only Farina and Postiga will miss the game so the coach have all other players available. There should be fewer chances for excuses, as we are getting closer to end of the season. You either lose, or get something from away field, which is always good for teams like Depor. I do not have a clue about the formation that Victor Fernandez will use today. I would like to see more offensive team that is able to score goals against team that is not playing well at home. I believe that some of the new incomers will have a chance to play. That could be Celso finally. But if again the coach present the duo Dominguez – Alex in the midfield, they must take more responsibility and try to connect the lines with creativity and hard-working.

Statistic says that Depor is among the worst visiting teams this season, and Rayo Vallecano is among the worst home teams on the other side. Last time Rayo won against Depor is in 2012 with result 2:1. In addition, in the last two games between these teams there was no winner. It smells like a draw just like the game at Riazor at Round 2.

Depor must find the goal this time. I believe in good game, and a little bit more luck tomorrow. Forza Depor!

Can this Depor make it possible?

We have been witnesses a period in which Deportivo La Coruna had good and bad games, producing mixed feelings among the supporters and the general public overall.

Depor is no longer the team that threats all Primera and Europe clubs, and we got used to it. Even many people including me, were expecting these bad results after Depor couldn’t find it's game from the third game in Primera, until the game against Valencia last weekend.

Just when all the numbers were at Valencia's side, Depor make it happen the unbelievable after four straight losses. It is not about the victory, it is about the style of playing football. I do not remember when I last saw such an agile Depor. Although the whole squad was phenomenal, there is a player that was the key player and the piece that was missing in the previous games: Cezary Wilk.

He runs a lot and covers what Medunjanin cannot cover. Medunjanin 's role is to play with the ball, while Wilk opens the field for the creative player, and makes Depor engine works. When you add fast and technical players on the wings and playmaker position, and different kind of strikers that can switch the draw in a second, then you got the winning team. A team that play with the ball when it has, and defend well when it does not have it.

Can this Deportivo prove itself and the public that something new is born, a dangerous machine capable of competing with every single team in the league? Can this Depor make it possible for much longer than only two or three games? Because I believe there is a talent on here. It could be mixed with discipline, order, and players' desire to progress in a football sense.

We will see after today's game with RCD Espanyol.

Helder Postiga lands in Deportivo La Coruna

Helder Postiga is a new player of Deportvo. The deal was closed after Valencia rescinded the contract with him. Depor is the ninth club for the Portuguese player, and currently he's 32 years old.
It is rumured that Postiga and Depor sighed one-year contract, with an option of one additional season. Before closing the transfer market, Depor will try to sign one or two players, probably central defenders.

I was missing for a very long time. If you have visited RCDLC blog for several times, you probably noticed it. But I do not know why I was missing. That is the truth. Probably I was too busy in my life, although I have never missed Depor's game during their campaign in Liga Adelante.

Now Depor is playing in Primera with two games already played, the one with Granada and today's one with Rayo Vallecano. It is a brand new start for this new team. I like this team. I like how Depor's new coach Victor Fernandez fitted some key players from the last year with the new ones. The team is well composed and practice good football, it's has technique and speed, but it miss more stability at the back. There is a big responsibility over Insua and Lopo, taking in mind that they still don't have replacements after the team didn't find anything so far, and the summer market is closing in several days.

So I'll be very active in the following period with this blog and expect me to write regularly before and after each game. But for today, and because it's my first time being active since long time ago (trying to accommodate :) I will only tell that I'm satisfied how the team played overall, however the team and coach must find a proper solution how to play football after scoring first in the game.

All of us have been witnesses how Deportivo outplayed its opponents until the moment they score a goal. After that, Depor is completely different team, very slow and non-dangerous, waiting for their chance that never comes. Exception was Toche today who failed to touch the ball on an empty net for 2:0.

Instead, Rayo Vallecano scored with head after Depor failed to close the right side (its left), because Farina lost its breath at the very end of the first half and didn't marked its opponent. The second goal was a defensive mistake of Canella I think, who lost the ball at the back and Rayo find the way to the goal. However, for the good flashes of football, Deprotivo was rewarded at minute 93, when after a free kick, Medunjanin made a shot in the goal, that was prevented with opponent’s hand and it was a clear penalty, which Isaac Cuenca transferred into a goal. Result: Deportivo 2:2 Rayo Vallecano

At the end, I will that I really like Haris, and I don't like that media already make Farina the leader of this team. Partially, I don't like the selfishness of Cuenca, and I like the commitment of Jose Rodriguez. But I know Depor will improve.

At least, Deportivo la Coruna is a beast on the road. In the ninth game of the season, Depor kick the youngsters of Barcelona FC with a goal scored in minute 1. They didn't attack after the lead, and give ball possession to Barca B, but were a mountain at the back, and know how to defend the narrow lead.

RC Deportivo 0:0 Mirandes [Match Report]

"We're lacking fluidity and quality to make the passes. Sometimes it seems all the rivals are better than us," - that is what Fernando Vazquez said reporters after the game.
Deportivo La Coruna and CDMirandes played goalless game at Riazor in a game that should have bring the needed peace to Deportivo after a mini serie with positive results.
I believe that several players at Depor are still in process of adaptation. Besides, we still miss players like Marchena who possess a lot of authority on the field. Arizmendi was missing this game, and we still wait to see capabilities of Antonio Nunez who should be ready to play after two weeks.
However, those players on the field should be able to beat Mirandes before a large crowd who came significantly cheer the locals. For now, it is sure that Depor performances depend on whether they play at home or away. At Riazor, it looks like the team does not have punch, it fears and misses good opportunities like the one of Juan Carlos who missed clear goal.
On the other side, CD Mirandes was well positioned and rocky them, who was able to look scarier at attack than the locals. Borja Baston had two opportunities in which he missed the target and it was not his best day.
Rudy was electric and always create trouble up-front, but his best play in which he eluded three rivals was missed by Juan Carlos who played just too bad for a team like Deportivo. Another good chance for Deportivo came through a set piece, in which Alex Bergantinos just touched the ball with his feed, and it turns to be an uncomfortable situation Dani Jimenez, the goalkeeper of Mirandes who touched the ball and then it hit the crossbar.
Mirandes always looked dangerous in this meeting, and could even won the game in the last minutes but the truth is that they were more focused on defense and succeeded in their intentions.
Nothing else could be said, in a gray day for Deportivo and well positioned rival, that a scoreless draw at the end.

Hercules CF 0:2 Deportivo La Coruna [Match Report]

Second straight win for Deportivo La Coruna, third on the road. RCDLC beat Hercules CF at Rico Perez stadium with score 1:0.
There was no chance at both sides until 24 minute came when the first goal in this match is scored. It was easy to Borja Baston to beat goalkeeper after a great pass from Juan Carlos. After the goal, Depor free its mind and shortly scored the second goal in minute 34. It was again Borja with the help of Hercules defender who touched the ball just to change its curse to the side that was not defended by Falcon.
At minute 43, Depor had two good chances make the third but no luck. That Hercules was playing really bad showed the missed penalty at the end of the first half. Penalty was made by Alex Bergantinos that played with hand in the box.

Half-time: Hercules (0:2) Deportivo

Depor started the second half relaying on counter attacks. In minute 57, Coach Vazques made two changes in his squad. Kaka entered for Laure and what is interesting, Seoane replaced Javier Arizmendi at the right side. The last one was playing under performances, as he never pass good ball to Borja and was constantly losing the battle with Hercules left-back defender.
The first serious shot for Hercules in the second part came in minute 65, and Lux deflected the ball in corner. Minutes later, Borja could score his third goal after a fast counterattack started with Manuel Pablo. He passed the ball to Borja who make a shot but the ball was saved by Falcon. Hercules were nervous on the field because they could not create real danger against Deportivo La Coruna.
In minute 75 tings become worst for Hercules after Escassi received a red card for hitting Luis Fernandez (who replaced Borja before) in his head in a duel. However, Depor never pushed for more and still played on counter attacks.

Sporting Gijon 2:0 Deportivo - Liga Adelante [Match Report]

Depor definitely don't feel good playing at El Molinon. Another bad weekend for Deportivo La Coruna. This time, it was Sporting Gijon that took three points against grey Deportivo on the road.
After the game Laure said: "The referees are abusing us. We are feeling hurt!"
But that's not a problem at this Deportivo as long as they try to sentence the games much earlier, and not waiting for the finish to happen something.

Not even 3000 fans who attended to the meeting were enough for Depor to avoid second straight defeat. Sporting Gijon knock down Depor with two goals in the second half from Scepovic (62') and Alex Barrera(69'). Yes, there was nonexistent penalty of Luisinho over Isma López as he fell down after feeling the pressure of Luisinho but that's no explanation for the lack of ideas of Galician Team. Something is missing to this Depor although it has quality and talent. They seems to be too relaxed in this hell as players used to say. Two weeks earlier Borja Baston said: "We’ve a good team and can lie at the top without problems." But it doesn't seems like that. It's much harder than he thinks and Depor need to prove it's role as soon as possible because other teams start to loose respect for the Blue and White football team kit.
The problem on this game were not referee mistakes. They always did mistakes sometimes in your favour, sometimes in opponents favour, and will always do as long as people are referees.

What concerns me is that Depor showed the same lack of reaction after been left down in the scoresheet. Borja Baston missed crucial chances in both half and the team is not seizing the opportunities they have and latter they suffer for that. This is a second straingth defeat for Depor on this season. It's not red alert but the team need to improve as soon as possible before been too late. The chance for getting three points is on this weekend against another opponent with high aspirations: AD Alcorcon

Cordoba CF 2:2 (12-13) Deportivo - Copa del Rey [Match Report]

Long night at Nuevo Arcángel stadium in Cordoba and win for Depor in one-leg tie for Copa Del Rey. Deportivo la Coruna passed Cordoba CF after a long penalty shootout that ended on the next day. In the regular part, the game finished 2:2, than an extra time was played, and after no goals scored the game turned to be real excitement at midnight.
Deportivo was pure team of youngsters. It played its 4-3-2-1 formation with Fabricio on the goal, Manuel Pablo, Seoane, Uxio and Alex Begrantinos at defense, wild, Teles, Cani, Juan Carlos and Bicho in midfield, and Luis as attacker.
The youngsters of Depor didn’t show too much game in the first part of the game, but neither Cordoba played good football although they opened the result in 23’ with Caballero scoring amazing goal from distance.
In the beginning of the second part, Depor took control of the game and quickly turned the result on their side after Seoane (header) and Luis scored in 48’ and 59’ respectively. To mention that Juan Carlos missed a penalty and clear goal after rebound just minutes after Seoane’s goal.
The best player for Blue and White football kits was Paulo Teles who looked more like a veteran with his perfect assist than like a youngster.
Cordoba pushed strongly in the final part of the regular game and equalized the result after a header of Abel and its first touch of the ball (he entered seconds before scoring).
In the extra time both parts were tired and Stefan Deal was suspended after receiving second yellow card in the match. No goals were scored in the extra part. Cordoba and Depor finished 2:2 The penalty shooting was real excitement as 28 penalties were thrown, even some players needed to shoot twice. The one that missed the last penalty for Cordoba was Ulises Dávila sending the ball over the bar.
The score sheet was 12-13 in favor of the Galicians.

In the third round, RCDLC will play with Real Jaen on the road...again, one-leg match.

Deportivo 0:1 Murcia CF - Liga Adelante [Match Report]

Deportivo La Coruna lost its second game at home in the fourth matchday in Liga Adelante 2013/2014.
Very intense first half with much running but also aggressive fouls by both sides. The first goal came in minute 23, as Murcia scored fantastic goal after a free kick from the right side. Instead throwing the ball for head shot, Murcia’s player pass the ball to the edge of 16 meters where Dorca shot it on a volley and scored a goal. 0:1 for Murcia.
Next minute, Murcia goalkeeper Casto made parade and hardly save the goal.
In minute 30, there was a doubtful situation in Murcia penalty area after Culio was fouled and it was clear penalty but the referee stayed soundless. 37-minute fast attack of Depor but Borja Baston missed the target. Depor had several opportunities at the end of the first half. Firstly, it was Borja who headed a ball from Culio, but it misses the target. Than Bergantinos made a shot from 16 meters and the last chance was a free kick but Casto had his day at Riazor.
The second half, Deportivo La Coruna had the ball possession, but they missed ideas and never found a crack in Murcia defense. In 59 minute, there was a big chance for Insua to score his second goal for this season, but he miss the target after an action of Arizmendi and precise throw. In 78 minute, second chance for Borja but it was not his day.
In the last minutes of the game, Depor pushed hard but Murcia was well placed and never gives a chance to gray Depor to find the equaliser. Conclusion Deportivo is still not playing its game as it did on away meetings. They have ball possession at Riazor, just like the game with Cordoba, but never find a way to score goals.
6 points for Depor in 4 games. The next game will be played against Cordoba in Copa Del Rey.

Carlos Marchena and Alexande Geijo

As I said is my previous post, it would be nice if Carlos Marchena dress Depor football shirt again, for one more season at least, taking into account his leadership abilities and experience. Well dreams come true.
This morning it was announced that the centre back returns to Deportivo, and will undergo the medicals today. Great news for a team targeting first two places and direct entrance to the elite.
Carlos Marchena is experienced defender, with international career behind with 69 appearances in the Spanish football team kit, and more than 350 games for teams like Valencia, Villarreal, Sevilla, Benfica and Deportivo La Coruna.
Another good thing that will satisfy all Deportivo La Coruna fans is the signing of Alexandre Alex Geijo. He already completed his first training with Depor squad and it is expected to be a vital piece of the puzzle named Deportivo. He will reinforce the striking position, but I don't believe that Vazquez will use both Borja and Geijo as a strikers in this squad. He may use one classic striker at most, and in extreme situations, we can see both on the pitch.
Good Monday for Deportivo, day "D" for football transfers is running, and we made two great signings this morning.
Would a third (winger) arrive today? It's never too late!

Sabadell FC 0 - 3 Deportivo - Liga Adelante [Match Report]

Deportivo La Coruna won its second away game in Liga Adelante this season with 3:0 score.
Equal game between Sabadell FC and Deportivo La Coruna in the first half, as both teams had chances to score and open the result.
Deportivo barely created chances, only Borja Baston in one opprtunity challenge Sabadell goalkeeper but the shot was too soft and hit the woodwork, although he was on-on-one with the keeper.
In minute 44, Javier Arizmendi had a chance for Deportivo. He headed the ball after a free kick but the ball went over the crossbar.
In the second half, Depor took the control of the game and that reaction give result as soon as the half started.
Borja Baston open the result after drilled two defense players, make a shot a the ball hit the woodwork than enter into goal.
In 53' there was a big chance of Depor through Laure. The left-back steal a ball in the midfield and run with the ball and make a shot, but the keeper make a save. The ball came to Javier Arizmendi who shot, but Sabadell keeper again prevent a goal for Deportivo.
In minute Borja scored its second goal on the match wit a a powerful shoot from the right side. Next goal came just minutes after. In 79' Depor started fast counterattack with Rudy having the ball, and just when he enter in the box, he assisted Javier Arizmendi who first pass the keeper and then easily scored his first goal for Deportivo La Coruna.
This goal killed the game and everyone just waited for the finish.

Easy game for Depor in the second hafl. New signings just started to score goals and that's the nice thing. Two wins in three games for Depor in Segunda season.

Deportivo La Coruna lost against Real Madrid 0:4 for the Teresa Herrera trophy.
Ricardo Kaka opens the result in minute 5 after a pass from the left side by Christiano Ronaldo. In minute 10, there was a shoot from Borja Baston to the bottom right side but Casillas save the ball.
In minute 12, Morata scored a goal after double pass with Marcelo for 0:2.
In 16 minute, new goal by Casemiro with head. Defense did nothing in order to clear the ball.
In minute 36, Cesary Wilk made a shot but Casillas save the goal.
In 39 minute yellow card for Borja Baston for playing with hand. Than in 42' Rudy which was the most active Depor player in the first half made a great shot but Casillas save the goal.
In the next action Lux make a great safe from a close shot.
The second half was more relaxing game, with Depor having the ball, and Real Madrid keeping the power. In minute 55 great, Fabricio which entered for Lux made a great save for Depor, and in the next play, Borja Baston tried to make a shot on attractive way. The ball misses the target.
In minute 60 Real scored again by the name of Morata, and pass by Kaka but the goal did not count due to offside. Although the goal seems to be an offside, this sector should work more to correct some things in the following period if Depor wants to stay reference no.1 in Liga Adelante.
Kaka was playing a good game, motivated, giving assists, and scoring a goal.
In minute 66, Culio pass the ball after a free kick to Juan Dominguez, he shot, but the ball went over the crossbar and in minute 69 Culio almost scores a goal from a free kick.
In 72’, Bicho made a great pass to Luis but the youngster miss the target from close range when only Casillas was in front of him.
After this, Juan Dominguez and Culio were replaced and the team turned into a pure kid team against all mighty Real Madrid that also played with non-standard squad, and was more reserved in the second half.
Fabricio made a great save in minute 77 after a counter attack of Madrid, just after Depor was making pressure on the other side.
In 84’, Real Madrid almost scored a goal after another assist of Kaka but miss to shot the ball.
However, Kaka was the man in the next play as he scored the fourth goal for Real Madrid from 16 meters and shout by the ground.
Bicho has the last chance to score but the goalie of Real make a save.
This is the new Depor, full of promising youngsters but far from the famous Depor that crushed Real Madrid at Riazor for 16 consecutive seasons.

Borja González Tomás or Borja Baston joins Deportivo after club administrators approved the singing on 27th of August 2013.
Borja Baston is 21 old striker that comes from Atletico Madrid and the details for this operation have still to be announced. The young striker comes from Atletico's youth academy and played last two seasons loaned. His professional career started in 2009, playing for Atletico Madrid B, having 37 appearances and scoring 16 goals. In 2010 he debuted for the first team but only appear in one occasion. Next year, in 2011, Borja was loaned to Murcia where he had 20 appearances, and 4 goals scored. In 2012-2013 he was playing for Huesca (again loan deal) where he scored 9 goals in 31 games.

National Team Carrer

Borja has played 25 games for the National Spanish Team football kit between 2008 and 2011, and scored 18 goals. He was playing for Spanish U16, U17, and U19 team.

The club is waiting for Alex Geijo

Striking position at Deportivo is the weakest link at the moment, and the team is missing a goalscorer. Riki and Oliveira have left this summer and now we hope that after Borja, Geijo will arrive and complete this position.

A cold shower at Riazor. Deportivo La Coruna lost their first home match this season against Cordoba CF, although everyone expected a win, this after last away week win against Las Palmas. It seems that Deportivo have a problem to present the best starting 11 the season and the team miss depth, and good striker. Improvising the attacking positions didn't bring result so far, as the team didn't create scoring opportunities, and that's the most important thing if you search for win.
We hope that new striker and maybe two will come in the following 5 days, as the transfer market is still on.
Another reason for Saturday's defeat is the absence of Juan Culio andthe lack of coordination as the team barely created scoring opportunities.
The goal for Cordoba came in minute 67, this after a free kick from outside the area and a big and childish mistake of whole Depor team.

Saturday, 24th of August 2013 is the day when Deportivo La Coruna will face its first home match on the road, playing against Cordoba.
Deportivo will probably play in 4-2-3-1 scheme with Lux on the goal line, M.Pablo, Laure, Kaka and Insua at the back, Alex Bergantinos and wilk as DMF, Juan Dominguez as a playmaker, Rudy and Arizmendi at the wings and Luis as attacker. Culio is suspended after the last appeal for the red card against Las Palmas was rejected. Bruno Gama left Deportivo on 18th of August and sign for FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.
Cordoba CF never beat Deportivo at Riazor, this after 13 games played and Primera, Segunda and Copa del Rey. Deportivo in their last season to Segunda (2011-2012) crushed almost all possible positive records, won 28 games in the tournament and at Riazor, they had impressive mark of 21 wins, one defeat and two draws! But stats are stats and this is a new Deportivo!
I expect soft win for Depor today, although it's a first home match this season with a lot of new players and some that are gone and were a vital piece of this team previous two seasons.

Ze Castro left Deportivo

After 5 years spent at Deportivo, Ze Castro has left the team on 21st of August 2013. The reason is well known for all Depor fans: His high wages are unaffordable for the current situation of the club.
It's an obligation of the club as Depor needed to get rid of his high wages in order to fulfill the salary cap rule.
Ze Castro arrived in the era of Lotina in 2008/2009 in a loan deal from Atletico Madrid with buy-out-clause of €2 mil. and at the end of season The contract was until 2013 and at the end of 2012, Ze Castro signer renewal.
His first season (2008-2009) as well as last two seasons were the best for Ze Castro in Deportivo. Although he was injured at some stages during Liga campaigns, he was regular starter and performed well. He was key piece in defense alongside Colloto in Segunda and helped clinching a promotion. One year later his partners were either Aythami or Marchena.

However, it never seemed to be a good combination with Aythami, as Depor crushed that negative record in terms of allowed goal last season. That's one of the reasons why Depor are playing at Liga Adelante this year.

Ze Castro departure wasn't his choice. He previously stated that would love to continue at Depor, but administrators were forcing the club to get rid of players with high wages. Dani Aranzubia and Ze Castro were at the spotlight. The goalie has left previous week, and today, defender is at the doors out.

Carlos Marchena returns to Depor?

I follow official depor website on English, and these days and I feel that good are coming. In addition, www.deportivo-la-coruna.com is receiving information that Carlos Marchena might return to Depor and besides he is willing to return.
I don’t know about the second one, but I know that everything is agreed between Marchena and Depor.
The only thing that could decide whether the centre back will come sooner or later or prolong process is the administrators’ approval.
Marchena is at the age of 34 but he is a team leader, a fighter, and something that Depor really needs in their road to Liga Adelante. I’m seeing Marchena return by the end of August and will be happy for that reinforcement.
Even I’m going to say “Welcome back Marchena” :D
