HPI Touring Challenge 2008 organized by General Toy City which started from April 2008 to November 2008 held the race at HMS Racing Track. Mostly, this race was participated by the Hot bodies racers, since this race was organised by the HPI Distributor itself, therefore there are less drivers that used other cars for the race.

For this 2008 HPI Race, there are 7 rounds of races which each has 2 heats and 2 Finals. The counting points for the final result was 30 points for the 1st position,29 points for 2nd, 28 points for the 3rd and a 1 point-minuses for the next position and this will continue till the last position.

After 8 consecutive months of battle, finally Team Serpent KK (HMS Racing) dominated the Top 3 position in HPI Touring Challenge 2008. Standing in 1st position was KS Chu followed by Jason Shim for the 3rd position. I hope Team Serpent KK will continue their good achievement in future races..

A very great honor goes to HMS Racing for their support throughout the year of 2008.

Lets together hope for this kind of sport will continue to attract more RC enthusiasts to join in the future so that the courage of RC racing will never fade.

Cheers!

KS Chu

At only 15 years old, Naoto Matsukura, the young protege of the great multiple world champion himself, Masami Hirosaka, he has become the youngest IFMAR 1:12 World Champion ever. A very important asset to Japanese manufacturer Team Yokomo, with back to back titles in his National Championship, Matsukura ran his Associated’s RC12R5 to claim the TQ spot and finish it brilliantly in the final. His only challenged was from his own Associated team-mate Juho Levanen.

With the fast paced rule changes in touring car, the main focus of the T2’009 has been to evolve & optimize. To take on what the world can offer and outperform all others under any racing conditions with any rules. Take your pick — asphalt, carpet, rubber or foam tires, NiMh or cutting edge LiPo batteries, high performance brushed or brushless motors — the T2’009 can handle them all and dominate the competition in the process. No extras needed… just a desire to win.

2009 news & main features:

Based on the ultra successful T2’008 platform, fine tuned for highest competition racing on rubber & foam tires

LiPo pack ready with the use of unique graphite pads that raise the top deck to fit popular-sized LiPo battery packs

New super-light Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum rear drive shafts, hard anodized, black coated and laser engraved, 38% lighter than standard drive shafts

New super-light drive axles with 35% less rotating mass

Drivetrain featuring 34T/20T pulleys on both EU and US versions

Limited edition orange coloring on aluminum parts for stylish and distinctive look. Warning, the blazing orange color will not improve lap times.

Dozens of ultra-fine improvements particularly on tolerances, clearances, and material structures

Most parts are fully compatible with the T2’008

Available in two versions to meet specific ROAR, EFRA, and FEMCA regulations:

US Foam-spec 6-cell Edition (#30 00014) – ROAR

EU Rubber-spec 6-cell Edition (#30 0013) – ROAR, EFRA, FEMCA

Battery slots on chassis moved slightly outwards for better clearance between batteries and spur gear

EU Edition available with 6-cell chassis which allows fitting of both 5- and 6-cell battery configurations

EU Edition features narrow, ultra-thin 2.0mm top deck for higher grip

Reduced sensitivity to changing track conditions, giving super-consistent performance during runs

Lowered battery backstops for better fit and clearance between soldering tabs

Both EU & US Editions come with Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum ball differential

Centrally-positioned layshaft and split bulkheads provide optimum balance thanks to perfect weight distribution of the motor towards centerline, giving quicker left-right transitions

Ultra-light bulkheads CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum

Motor mount bulkhead features the lowest possible motor mount, compatible with stock, modified, and brushless motors

Super-light composite front Solid Axle with XRAY’s own smart quick-change outdrive system for easy outdrive exchange (EU Edition only); no servicing or replacement of drive shaft blades needed, translates into reduced servicing costs

Specially-optimized drive shaft lengths for specific foam- and rubber-tire racing conditions:

US Edition: standard 50mm CVD drive shafts for use with foam tires (generally higher traction than rubber tires); optimum transfer of traction to the wheels

EU Edition: longer 52mm front/rear CVD drive shafts positioned more towards centerline in diff/solid axle outdrives to generate more overall traction and make the car easier to drive on low-traction tracks

3rd November 2008

Hi, just finish the Hpi Final Round yesterday. I’m still unsure what my Final Overall Position is for the HPI Challenge 2008. Now waiting the organizer to count the points which I also when he will let us know… Based on my record, I think I only manage to get 2nd position.

After the cancellation of HMS Race last week, my racing mood is not there anymore. I been practicing a lots for 1/8GP just for the HMS Race but the weather just don’t give us a chance to even start the Qualifying…I felt that all my Effort just gone with the wind…well, nothing much we can do about it… Just bear with it… HMS had done whatever they can to make the HMS Race successfully, but the weather just doesn’t allow it to happen…

On Saturday, I practiced few packs on Stock EP. I felt my driving already changed. Less Precise, Less Responsive and Less Consistence. I’m not sure what cause all this but I only know that I need to get back the FEEL of driving an EP….

Ok, yesterday race only have 9 racers participated.

Me(S400), Raphael(Cyclone), Daniel(Cyclone), Casey(Cyclone), Datuk(Cyclone), Luther(Cyclone), Marzuki(Cyclone) , Zaldi(Cyclone) and Dullah(Xray)..

1st heat Started with me leading and the back cars is having their Bang Bang session on each other…I manage to have Clean run with 17 laps, 5minute 08sec

2nd heat started, I manage to have Clean run too with 17laps, 5minute 07 sec

I’m got TQ for that round.

1st final started, since I was in TQ position, I manage to escape from all the bang boom behind….after all d crashed that happen behind, Mr. Dullah chasing me from behind.. I just wonder why my car response suddenly unpredictable…cant take sharp cornering otherwise d rear will lose handling… so what I need to do is slowly push the car to avoid anything happen….after 1 minute he chase me, he finally able to par-to-par with me on d straight line…Our car keep on touching on d straight, jus before reach the short corner on d straight, his car touch my car and I got turn and facing back to another side… then I try to give him a chase till I did a mistake and flip my car…my car become turtle…The worst thing is NO Marshalling! I go down and save my car and I rushing up to the driving stand…I lose about 30-40 sec here….from there I was drop to last position. I try to chase from there even though the chance to chase them back is very low…I keep my speed same in every corner without any single mistake…I started to get near and near them….

Finally! I able to overtake them one by one…when I finish overtaking them all, I reach the “S” corner , I got hit from side.. It was Mr. Daniel car who hit me and turn my car into TURTLE in LAST MINUTE! I was leading that time and suddenly turn into TURTLE! What a day for me! ….Marzuki was helping me that time since he was below the stand…But I cant do anything since the time was already finish…..I finish in 5th position…

I still don’t know why racer still don’t’ know how to GIVE WAY and eventually will bang you.

I felt so disappointed that time…I felt so Heat up…but race have to be finish too…so what can I do is just put the feeling aside and go for 2nd Final…

While I checking my car, I found out my front right tire is about to peel off…no wonder I feel so strange on my car handling… what i can do is just stick with Superglue (buy from Daiso) since I wont buy another set of this lousy tires since this is d last race. Just do and die la….

This last final, I put my motor in a RISKY level. I drop my Gear ratio to 5.0 from 5.2 which will cause the motor burnout anytime during the race.

2nd final start, I leading again from the beginning…but Mr. Dullah is chasing from behind again….once again he in Par-to-Par with me on d straight…and just about the short corner on the straight, both car touch again…he took the lead from there and I chasing him from behind…after 4minutes I able to overtake him after he did a mistake. I took the lead till the end and I got 17laps followed by Mr. Dullah 17laps, Mr. Raff 17laps.

Till here now …….will report my position after 2 weeks from now…

Cheer!

Hi, I have been MIA (missing in action) for almost 4 months in this blog. The times are flowing away very very fast. Report for the previous HPI Challenge Round 5 and Round 6 haven’t written here yet…

Well, during this 4 months, lots of thing to be done, especially I had step my Leg into GP 1/8 class and HMS Race just around the corner. 8 more days to go… Time is very important to me as I have limited time with the 1/8 GP. I only able to test the car for 1 month and I’ll be racing 1/8 in my 1st ever BIG Event that will be held at HMS Racing track.

Driving a 1/8 is totally different with driving an EP 1/10 scale. The speed, the handling of the car is so attractive which may cause a racer to lose interest in EP or GP 1/10 class…I’m very happy that I can have the experience of driving 1/8 scale and this all Thanks to my sponsorship from Mr. David and also help from my Team mate Mr. Jason for helping me to get through all the difficulties that I encounter during my involving in 1/8 class. Other GP racers as well gave me lots of advises and guidance…

From EP class jump to GP class, it’s totally new thing for me…Still lots of thing for me to learn through out the process on driving a GP car.

HPI Challenge Round 5.

I don’t have much luck in this round as I encounter GLITCH with the motor that I normally use for stock race. I tried everything, but it still doesn’t solve the problem. I’d been Phobia about Glitch which harmed me in many races before… A glitch can cause you to lose a race and the worse thing is it might also cause you to lose your entire car…

So I decided to change to my spare motor which I normally use for practice. After I changed, the glitch is gone but the speed is not there as this motor is not performance motor… After a minute started the 1st Heat, I only able to take lead for a minute before Mr. Jason overtake me in the straight. I unable to give him any challenge as my motor don’t have the torque and speed that I need. What I can do is just maintain my speed in every corner. I only manage to grab the 2nd position in 1st Heat while Mr. Jason took the TQ for that Heat.

2nd heat started but I forgot to adjust my shell height thus making the shell is scratching all the way I go…..I cant do anything at this time, then I just continue to race until the end. I got 4th position in this Heat.

1st Final, I correct my shell height, true the motor and also change ratio to 5.0. I in 4th grid position for final. Mr. Jason in 1st Grid Position, Mr. Raff in 2nd Grid position, Mr. Ryonny in 3rd Grid position. The race started, Jason leading followed by Raff, Ryonny and Me. Just before reaching the S Corner, everyone is crashing there, I took the chance and pass them but Jason still take the lead. I tried to chase Jason but no luck. Jason led till the end followed by me… Jason won the 1st Final.

2nd Final also won by Mr. Jason followed by me……..hahaha…..the rest i’m not so sure….

HPI Challenge 2008 Round 6

This race i came totally unprepared as i’m focusing practising the 1/8 GP as the HMS race is very near. This time luck still not in my side…Motor lose speed cause by the cracking Comm…and too many blocker on d track… I still wonder why some racers still don’t know how to give way. They been playing for almost 1 year , they still don’t understand what the meaning of GIVE WAY. When other car that faster than you near your back , you must give way to that racer and not blocking him all the way or bang him out from the track..

Where the Fair Play in this sport? Be gentleman la…

overall result is :-

TQ: Mr Jason Shim

1st Final - 1st - Jason Shim

2nd - Ralphael

3rd - KS Chu

2nd Final - 1st - Ralphael

2nd - Ronnie

3rd - KS Chu

That all for now, will write again soon…..Thanks!
